Video Transcript for Camco Power Grip Generator Adapter Review

Today we'll be doing a review of the Camco Power Grip Generator Adapter for RV power cord in a 125 volt, 50 amp 3 prong twist lock with a 12 inch long cord, part numberCAM55412.This here is a 30 amp generator, 3 prong, twist lock style plug. It's got a bent piece here. The extra tabs, that's what locks it in place. It's designed this way so you can only put it in a 30 amp file, 125volt plug. The other end here, is set up for a 50 amp RV style plug, where you would take your RV cord off your motor home camper and you would plug it in this way, with the male end would go into this end. It has a handle here. Make sure you can pull it back out easily.

Other than that, it's just a quick, simple converter, basically, to take it from a 30 amp generator style plug to your 50 amp style RV plug. Now we're here at our generator. This, right here, is our 30 amp plug that we'll be plugging into. You can see here how this one has a notch, which lines up with this. Then, there's different lengths or sizes of plug to give you the same difference. So we'll simply, to put it in, line up those two and you twist it slightly.

As you can see you can't pull it back out,so it'slocked into place. So now you have your 30 amp generator style plug locked in, you have down to our, or actually up, to our 50 amp RV style plug. This right here is our 50 amp line coming off of our RV motorhome. It's a male end and it'll simply just plug in. Now you have connection to your 50 amp line coming off your motor homeRV camper.

But you must remember you still are limitedby what this outlet coming out of the generator actually is, which is only a 30 amp. So even though your RV may want to have 50 amps going to it, it will be limited and you will be limited on power, to what your generator puts out and what this plug puts out, which is 30 amps. Now by the plug being a twist lock design, when you put the plug in, and twist it, and then lock in place, when your generator is running and yougeta little bit of movement on it, it doesn't allow it to loosen up and come out of the plug. So the next time you need to connect your 50 amp RV style plug, off of your RV, motorhomeorcamper, CAMCOhas a solution, with the power grip generator adapterfor RV power cords. At 125 volt, 50 amps with a 3 prong twist lock in a 12 inch long design, part number CAM55412. .

Product came quickly and exactly as advertised. Plan to use this adapter when dry camping with my motor home and using a portable Honda 3000i generator to top up battery bank or run one air conditioner unit in bedtime at night. I have a built in Onan diesel generator but it is much louder and less efficient than the Honda when I only need 20 amps at night. 484949

Very handy. We use it at home to plug in, keeping the battery charged up at all times. (We have a high quality charger that does the job right. Not all do!) It also enables us to run one of the A/C units so we can stay cool while loading up and prepping for a trip. etrailer shipped it quickly, and it arrived on time and in good condition. Excellent service. 560254

Comments

We still use it all the time at home, and its never given us any problem at all. Have also used it a couple of times on the road, where there was only 30A plug and or a GFCI 15A circuit so we could not use the 30+15 dogbone.

Very nice product from Camco... A must have if you travel a bunch and don't know if you're next stop is 30 amp or 50 amp service.. for the folks with 30 amp units to be able to adapt to 50 amp you will need this at some point and time as many of the campground facilities are installing or upgrading to 50 amp service only. 381341

Review from a similar Camco Power Grip in RV Wiring

New to Camp trailers, I bought this to connect our trailer to a house outlet until I can install 30 Amp service. My intent was to plug this directly into the outside house outlet, then plug the camper into it. Not going to happen. The male side will not plug into most outside outlets that have a protective cover. If the duplex outlet is installed vertically, or horizontally with the ground on the left side, the Camper plug will put so much torque on the outlet that it will break. So I went to "Plan B" and used my construction grade extension cord between the wall and the adapter, Works GREAT! Having the plugs at 90 degrees to each other really makes putting them together or taking them apart easy (and both of my hands are partly disabled). The bright color means I won't forget it when traveling, and the ABS plastic makes it nearly indestructible. Although I am happy with this, and it is doing the job well, you might consider Product CAM55165, it is a pigtail that will allow you to use your new adapter in a greater variety of locations. 138175

Comments

Still have the adapter, the Yellow color has helped a couple of times! We are now looking to upgrade our original trailer to a newer model and this little thing will definitely be going with us!

It is nice being able to plug in the camper at my house. I've had problems in the past with using a cheater. That went from 50 amp 30 amp to 15 amp. Now I can go from 50 amp straight to 15 amp to just plug into the house. 422611

Review from a similar Camco Power Grip in RV Wiring

Been looking for a 50-50 amp 90 degree adapter to take the strain off my existing 50 amp cord...Camping store did not have it, local RV dealers had 30 Amp but not 50 Amp...I googled 50 amp and was directed to etrailer.com. They had the item, and very reasonably priced. I have bought several items from etrailer.com, should've known they would have it. From now on, first place I will look. 672958

Review from a similar Camco Power Grip in RV Wiring

This 90 degree adapter relieved a lot of the stress from my Motorhome connector. The 50 amp cord sticking straight out was placing a lot of stress on the shore power plug on my motorhome. This pigtail with the 90 degree plug reduces that stress tremendously. I wish Camco would make the plug separately so you could just attach it directly to your cord and eliminate the large bulky extra connection, now that would really be a winner 303283

Looks good. Have not tried yet. Price was great. I had a hard time finding a 30 amp/30 amp. Our rig is setup that we have to use our left hand to plug rig into our receptacle whennwe use the generator... we are right handed. We have a hard time getting the plug out without some struggling from the rig. My husband has had a stroke and I have a hard time getting enough leverage with my left hand so this will be perfect. Ill plug cord into this and then this into rig. 396371

This product is answer to my dreams. Have a 37' Pace Arrow which had a 3.5k generator which was only capable of running one a cat a time. Generator died and I quickly found out generator repair people are rarer than Amish electricians. Bought a 7k generator and was arranging to pay an electrician to wire it in to rv when I discoveees this incredible connection. It twists in to 120/240 outlet on generator and accepts 4 prong rv cord. GREAT!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Turned on both ac's for first time since I owned rv, (over 10 yrs). Within mins rv was cool and I have enough power for another rv. This thing is great. I highly recommend to anyone with an rv with a small generator or generator in need of repair, go buy a 7k running amp generator and this plug and you're set with plenty of electrical power. Also, the quality and durability of this part is suprisingly amazing. You can easily run over this plug with your rv and not phase it. BUY ONE. This will be the best rv purchase you can make. Thank you ETRAILER for a great product worth twice the price easily. Will be ordering another one for a friend soon. 5?? 434304

Thanks for follow up survey. Your customer satisfaction concern is impressive. Have used product often and it still looks like the day I got it. It will easily outlast rv and probably me. Thanks. Stand behind my review of a year ago. You guys are my go to for further needs.

I bought this Camco Power Grip a year ago and have used it daily for eight of the last 12 months. I have a 50 amp RV and am plugged into a 30 amp service and would often kick the breaker with routine use. I was limited on the use of electrical appliances. Since purchasing the Power Grip I have much better use of my electrical system. I can even run both AC units at the same time which I have done occasionally. I highly recommend this product. 547660

I like this male replacement for my 30 amp RV cord with one proviso. After unscrewing the three screws that hold the thing together, I discovered that the round plug that provides the ground was not easily removed so as to attach the wire to it. I tried pulling in - no go. I tried twisting it loose - stopped for fear of destroying it. Finally I took it out to the concrete sidewalk and mashed the darn thing through. Perhaps not all such clamps come so sternly compacted, but be prepared. Once overcome, however, the thing works quite nicely. 545252

This is a great alternative to the 30 to 50 amp dogbone that I already own. For those times when I need (or want) to run the AC, microwave, water heater and fridge at the same time and only have a 30 amp connection available this will come in handy. I've run a separate 15 amp extension cord a couple of times to set up an outside kitchen and I don't think I've ever found a 30 amp plug without the 15 amp sockets right there too. As long as they're not GFCI this cable will give me 45 amps in the trailer when there's no 50 amp connection. Or - like last year on New Years Eve when the 50 amp circuit only had one side working - and you're forced to use the 30 amp socket or nothing at all. 559132

Comments

Even better now that I carry a 15 amp socket. I can change out the GFCI outlet if thats all thats available and change it back before I leave, of course . Thanks John G. For the hint...

I fully understand that this isn't going to work with a GFCI type outlet, and most campgrounds now will have this type of outlet. But it does work great if they do not have GFCI outlets, so I bought it for those rare times. 232776

  • Using the Honda generator to power your RV is a great idea. You can use either outlet to power your RV. For any appliances that use less than 125V of power, I would recommend you use the 3 prong 30 amp outlet with a 50 amp adapter like the Camco # CAM55412. This will allow the generator to run economically when using appliances rated for less than 125V; most commonly RV appliances are rated for 120V. It would not be what I would recommend as a best option for an RV application as the electronics over time may not prove as reliable that you'd power with this. That said you could use the # CAM55412 to connect to a 50 amp power plug and it will work....
