Video Transcript for Atwood RV Gas Water Heater Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Atwood six gallon RV gas water heater, part number AT96121. Here's what our water heater looks like fully installed. It has an automatic pilot light ignition system, so all we're going to have to do is flip a switch and we'll have some warm water. It's a compact and lightweight unit, so it's easily going to fit underneath the cabinet in your RV. Now, the tank itself is going to be an aluminum clad construction, which means its going to reduce calcium build-up and eliminate corrosion. It's also going to eliminate the need for an anode rod. Now, it's going to come with a single panel switch, it's going to make easy installation, and also have a light indicator to let us know when the water tank is turning on and allow us to turn on and off the gas. Our tank's going to hold up to six gallons, and it is an extremely efficient unit.

It's going to have up to eighty percent heating efficiency, and it's going to provide up to twelve gallons of hot water per hour. The white access door is going to be included in the kit. It's going to have this locking tab right here. Now, like most water heaters, it is going to have a drain tube. That's going to be right here, and our drain tube's nylon, so we're not going to have to worry about it rusting or corroding. Now, inside our unit it is going to be thermostatically controlled to prevent overheating, and it's going to have a built-in high temperature limit switch that's going to automatically shut it off.Like all water heaters, it's going to have a pressure relief valve that's going to prevent excessive water expansion.

There's an air pocket in the tank that's going to keep the valve from dripping inside the cabinet. Now, the dimensions of our water heater, it's going to be twelve and a half inches tall, by sixteen inches wide, by eighteen inches deep. Now, the door itself is going to be fourteen inches tall, and eighteen inches wide. This is a twelve volt system, so it's going to hook up to our RV's battery, and we're not going to have to worry about having a hundred and ten volts like you do in a house. If you're looking to replace your water heater in your motor home, whether because it's leaking or it's just getting old, this is going to be a great option because it's going to be a lightweight, compact, easy-to-install unit, and it's going to be highly efficient. That will finish up your look at the Atwood six gallon RV gas water heater, part number AT96121.

Exact replacement, even all mounting holes lined up. Installed in my Lance truck camper, test fired appeared to be working properly. You will need to reuse or buy new check vales to hook up water lines to tank, at least I did (reused old). Unit came UPS undamaged which was great. Fast shipping, and great price compared to local. 657917

  • Keeping Fresh Water Tank and Lines from Freezing in a Lived-In 5th Wheel Trailer
  • If you live in the trailer all year then presumably you will be running heaters when it is cold. Provided the hot water heater and plumbing is internal to the trailer then the ambient temperature would prevent it from freezing. But I assume that the water heater is fed from the fresh water tank which is more external to the trailer. To keep it from freezing you could use a tank heater such as # 277-000164. Or we have heating element # W01-1573 designed for freeze protection on holding...

  • How to Prevent Gray and Black Water RV Tanks from Freezing
  • All of the water tanks are susceptible to freezing. It's pretty easy though to keep the gray and black tanks from doing so as you can simply put some antifreeze down the drain of the shower and you'll be fine. The reason you can't do this with the fresh water tank is because well, you shouldn't be drinking antifreeze!

  • For the Atwood RV Water Heater - Gas - Automatic Pilot - 12 Volt - 8,800 Btu - 6 Gal Tank # AT96121, I recommend you check the air adjustment of the burner tube. The air shutter should be 1/4 of the way open so a blue flame with small traces of yellow. You should check the gap between the sparking probe and the ground probe. It should be 1/8 inch.
