Automatic Rain Sensor

MaxxFan Plus Rain Sensor

The MaxxFan Plus has a rain sensor that detects when it starts to rain or snow. The sensor then automatically closes the roof vent and shuts the fan off, preventing the interior of your RV or trailer from getting wet. This allows you to leave your vent open and running without having to worry about the weather. Once the sensor has dried, you'll be able to open the vent and turn the fan back on. To deactivate the rain sensor, press the rain sensor button on the keypad.

Reversible, Variable-Speed Fan with Thermostat

MaxxFan Plus Fan Motor

The 12-volt, variable-speed fan has 2 modes of operation: manual and auto. When the fan is in manual mode, you can choose from 10 different speeds to increase or reduce the airflow as needed. Auto mode works in conjunction with the fan's thermostat.

To enter auto mode, press the auto mode button on either the remote control or keypad. Once the fan is in auto mode, the thermostat is activated with a set temperature of 78 degrees F. Pressing the arrow keys on either the remote or keypad changes the set temperature in 1 degree increments. When the thermostat is set, it senses the room temperature and automatically turns the fan on if it is above the set temperature. The fan shuts off when the set temperature has been reached. If the room temperature rises, the fan turns on again. This keeps your RV cool and comfortable and saves you from having to adjust the fan by hand. The auto mode also saves energy by running the fan no more than necessary, especially while you're away or asleep.

This fan is reversible, which means you are able to both exhaust stale air out of your RV and bring fresh air in from the outside. To enter ceiling fan mode, close the vent while the fan is still running. The fan then circulates the air inside your RV like a ceiling fan.

The fan has a fuse-protected, ball bearing motor that is sealed to keep out dust, dirt, and moisture.

Remote Control and Keypad

Remote for MaxxFan Plus

The remote control has a built-in LCD screen so that it's easy to see the current settings. The remote enables you to operate the vent and fan from afar, including opening or closing the dome and turning the fan on or off. With the remote, you can also control the fan speed, the direction of the airflow, and the set temperature for the thermostat.

The remote comes with a cradle, which mounts to the wall. When it's not in use, the remote can be stored in the cradle. Hardware and 2 AAA batteries are included. The low-battery indicator located on the top-center area of the screen lets you know when it's time to change the batteries.

Keypad for MaxxFan Plus

Like the remote control, the flush-mounted keypad on the vent allows you to operate the vent, the fan, and the thermostat. The rain sensor can only be activated or deactivated from the keypad.

Powered-Lift Dome with Twin Arms

MaxxFan Plus Dual Arms

The dome on this roof vent is constructed of durable high-density polyethylene, and it is translucent so that some natural light can shine through. When it's closed, the dome provides a seamless, low-profile appearance that blends into the roof of your RV.

This powered-lift dome opens and closes automatically, which means no hand cranking is needed. And unlike a dome that has only 1 arm, this dome is supported by 2 sturdy arms so that it will not flutter during high winds or while you are driving.

The dome has a sensor that will automatically shut off the lift motor when an obstruction is encountered or when the dome reaches the end of its travel. So, for example, if the dome cannot open all the way under your vent cover, a sensor will stop the dome once it has opened as far as it can.

MaxxFan Plus Manual Knob

And a manual hand knob is built into the underside of the vent to allow you to open and close the dome if your RV loses power.

Removable Bug Screen

MaxxFan Plus Bug Screen

This vent has a bug screen that helps keep insects and debris out of your RV. It is secured to the vent with 4 built-in retainer clips. These clips make it easy to remove the screen for cleaning or maintenance. Just rotate the clips, and the screen will pop out.

Installation

The MaxxFan Plus vent fits standard 14" x 14" openings in the roof of an RV, camper, or enclosed trailer. A white interior trim piece (or garnish), insulated electrical connectors, and hardware are included for installation. The vent also has a molded-in mounting flange that is lined with a rubber weather seal, which helps prevent leaks. Roof sealant (sold separately) is required for installation.

To install, connect the two wires on the vent to your RV's electrical system. The black wire is for power, and the white wire is for ground. Then insert the MaxxFan Plus into the opening in the roof and mount the flange to the roof. To finish, trim the garnish as needed to fit the thickness of your roof and install it.

MaxxFan Plus With FanMate Cover

For extra rain protection, install a MaxxAir FanMate vent cover (sold separately) using the molded mounting tabs located on the flange. The tabs are designed to align with the integrated brackets on the FanMate, allowing for a no-drill, tool-free installation. These tabs also have rubber inserts that prevent water from seeping in under the flange.

Video Transcript for MaxxAir RV Vents and Fans - Roof Vent - MA00-04500K Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus. This is a trailer roof vent. It's going to feature a reversible variable speed fan that's going to allow you to precisely control air movement in and out of your RV. It's going to feature a 10 speed design, and it can be used as a ceiling fan. It will operate when the lid is in the closed position, which is really going to help circulate air inside your trailer. A few key features that I want to mention while we have the lid open. Is you're going to notice, right here, that it has a really nice rubber seal that goes around the perimeter of the opening.

That's going to do a great job at creating a tight, water tight seal with the lid closed. That's really going to help keep dirt and moisture out of this area here. This component right here is going to be the motor. This is a sealed, ball bearing motor. It's built to last a long time.

Right here is going to be a built in rain sensor. This is going to automatically detect moisture, and when it detects moisture it'll automatically turn the fan off and close the lid. If you open the lid manually, the rain sensor will not close the fan lid, so keep that in mind. This is going to be a smoke colored lid. Plastic construction. Knife drawn durable design.

It is translucent, so it will let some light in. It's also going to feature two lifting arms. That's going to provide sturdy support for the lid when it's open. It's really going to help withstand high winds without fluttering, and it can remain fully open while you're driving. I'm going to go ahead and close it, and then we'll go over some other features.

Now, this unit does feature an adjustable thermostat that's going to let you control the temperature inside your RV or trailer while you're away or sleeping. Ultimately, what that does is that helps save energy by running the fan no more than necessary. It is going to feature an automatic setting of 78 degrees, so you would push the thermostat button and hold that down to set it to that temperature. It can be adjusted in increments of 1 degree. Just follow the outline that's in the included instructions when it comes to adjusting that. I, also, want to point out that it comes with the interior trim piece or garnish, so this is included. It's going to give the inside a nice, clean finished look. I'm going to set that aside, so we can go over some more details about the fan itself. Now, one of the other things that you'll notice is that it is a nice low profile plastic dome. When it's in the fully closed position and installed on your application, it is only going to sit above the roof about 3 3/4". That's measuring from the bottom of the flange to the top of the dome right here. When it's in the fully open position, that's going to extend the opening to about 12 1/2" above the roof. That's going to extend the overall height about 12 1/2" above the roof. It's going to have the molded end, white plastic flange that's got your mount holes that's kind of punched. They're not all the way through, but it does indicate where to install your hardware. That's going to help prevent leaks. It's also going to feature a flush mounted keypad. That's this right here. It's very easy to access. It's very easy to use, and it's very easy to clean. It's going to come with a remote control. This is going to allow you to easily control all of the functions of the fan without actually having to reach up and push a button. The remote control's a nice feature. It's got a nice large display on it that's a digital display, and it's going to come with a wall cradle and hardware to get that installed. It's also going to come with the included batteries. It's going to feature a removable insect screen. That's just got these retaining knobs that you can just rotate out of the way to remove that. It allows for easier removal and easy cleaning. Again, that interior trim piece or garnish is included. It's also going to feature these waterproof, molded mounting tabs. These are going to allow for fast and tool free installation of a MaxxAir FanMate Vent Cover. If you want to do that, that is sold separately. Now, this is going to be a standard opening size, or it's going to fit into a standard vent opening size or fan opening size. It does make it really easy to replace or upgrade an old vent model or an old vent. It's going to come with all the necessary electrical connectors and hardware to get the unit fully installed. Now, this is designed to fit roofs with a thickness of 2" to 6 1/2" thick. If the roof is less than 2" thick, the sealing must be built up. It requires 12V DC and minimum of 5Amp service. When it comes to the fan specifications, the fan itself is going to give us a diameter of about 12". That's going to be a 10 blade design. The unit's designed to install into a roof opening of 14" x 14" or 14 1/4" x 14 1/4", right in that area. Again, everything that you need for the installation is included. It is a good idea to get some caulk or sealant to put around the flange, just to create a nice weather tight and water tight seal. The last thing that I want to mention is I just want to go ahead and go over the overall dimensions. We're just going to be taking a look at the length and width of the unit. If we're measuring here one point of the flange to the same point on the other side, outside edge to outside edge, we're looking at about 18 1/8". Then, if we take a look at the measurement that we have front to back, that's going to measure about 16 1/2". Again, right here you're going to notice it just has a sticker right here that it does have a rain sensor. You're going to have your control knob for manual adjustment. Then, you're going to have your keypad that's going to allow for automatic adjustment as well as the remote that allows you to control all the functions of the fan. You're going to have the ability to open and close. You're going to have the ability to control the rain sensor. You're going to have the ability to control the on and off function of the fan as well as the speed. This is the thermostat button, and then you're also going to have the ability to control the direction that the fan blades are spinning. That's going to do it for today's look at the MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus Trailer Roof Vent.

Very nice unit. I like having the remote (that this unit comes with) as it gives more programing options than the simple keypad on the bottom of the unit. Installed in less than a hour or so and works great. 629788

I ordered and installed a MaxxAir 4500K Vent fan to install in our cabover area of our Class C motorhome from Etrailer.com . This is the second one we installed, the first one in the RV bathroom is still working great after about 1 years time. Reason I installed a 2nd one is so we can have one fan exhaust air while the other fan pulls air into the RV and thereby create a wind tunnel through the RV so we can close and lock the windows but still cool the RV in moderately warm weather when we want to leave the dog in the RV and go somewhere with everything locked up. I chose Etrailer for this purchase because they had a good price and they show MaxxAir as one of their partner brands and state the fan has a 2 year manufacture warranty right on the page where it is listed. The fan was shipped quickly and I was pleased it wasn't old stock, the model label on the fan showed 2018 manufactured. I also bought a Maxx II cover for it. 554396

Great Quality Product. Finally arrived after a delay (back-ordered). Glad I waited though. Would be nice if the item had been "in stock" and shipped right away. BUT......Definitely worth the wait. This vent (unlike most) is going on the top of a Yurt which is used for a hunting camp. Should help with ventilation in and out and reduce potential condensation. Thanks eTrailer!! 417617

Product worked out wonderfully except for my shortcoming of finding the proper power supply. It was shipped immediately, arrived on time and without damage. Can't ask for much more than that. I can now use my smoke detectors and vent my kitchen area as the OEM manual vent was inaccessable and useless. 509954

Product design is aesthetically pleasing and construction appears to be very durable. Purchased this particular fan over another popular brand because of its low profile when closed and because it has dual actuator door support arms. Product will be used in my teardrop trailer build so I was wanting something compact yet attractive. I'm not to the point where I can actually test the operation of the fan at this time. Hopefully soon. Thank you etrailer.com for another great product at a great price and as usual, superior costumer service. 433309

Great product, great service! I made an order with several items in one and someone personally called me to let me know 1 item might take a little longer than expected to receive. I still got everything fast. I have 2 of these fans installed now. I have them set to automatically exhaust hot air in the summer when it is over 85 degrees in the camper, hoping to extend it's life, especially the adhesive in the floors, ceiling and wallpaper. 717559

I purchased 2 MaxxAir fans about a year ago & I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase! My husband and I installed them ourselves, which was a bit of a task but still doable. Removing the old adhesive before installing the new fan was the hardest part. They aren't cheap, so I was a little hesitate before buying, but they have proven to be worth every penny! I'm actually on a cross country road trip right now, using these wonderful fans everyday since I hit the road in August. They're great for blowing out the hot air after a hot day, cooling off the rv when it gets a bit too warm inside or when you just need a little circulation. The rain sensors are so incredibly helpful and work great! The lids are a bit noisy when they open and close, but once the lid stops moving, the fan isn't that distracting at all, especially on the lower settings. I highly recommend the MaxxAir Fans! 713853

Great product. Easy install. Makes a huge difference in my camper’s internal air circulation. The remote control turns it into one-button operation. Press a button, and it both opens AND starts the fan. Same to close it. Highly recommend it m 692836

I have 200w of solar panels running this. Comes on automatically when it gets warm (vent opens and fan runs). Fan runs slower when temperature differential is small and runs faster when it needs to. Vent closes automatically and fan shuts off when rain is detected. Stays closed until reset. Fan can be set to pull air in. Can use the remote control to set the temperature of your choice. Remote is optical. 681489

Received products quickly! I did have a question regarding the wiring and called to verify since our old bathroom fan had more wiring. Within minutes it was hooked up and ready to go. They only product I would suggest to get is Butyl Tape or proper sealant before starting, saves time. We used Butyl Tape and its working great. The features on this fan are wonderful and love having a remote control. I did mount the base for it just beneath the existing switches, as the original on/off switch needs to remain on for remote to work properly. When the remote is in the holder it covers the switch. There are two features that I have experienced and love about this unit. 1) Temperature control settings and 2) Fan can be reversed bring in fresh air. We also installed the MaxxAir II RV and Trailer Roof Vent Cover - 22-3/4" x 18-1/2" x 9-3/8" - White - MA00-933072 because we like leaving the vent open at times when rv is not in use and not hooked up to electricity. This prevents weather elements from entering and also keeping birds from using it as a nesting site. 666344

We have come across this from time to time and you will need the Replacement Printed Circuit Board for MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus Roof Vents part # MA10A04751KS to fix your issue. It is a very easy installation and will get your MaxxAir fan back up and running properly. The connectors will match what you currently have and you'll need two butt connectors I recommend the Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 16-14 Gauge part # DW05744-5 to make the connections to...

  • Solution for Wanting to Convert MaxxFan Roof Vent with Manual Lid to Powered Lid
Since there isn't a way to convert a MaxxFan from a manual lift lid to a powered lift lid you'd have to replace what you have with the part # MA00-04500K that you referenced. Replacing the entire roof vent would be easier than trying to replace components of it as well.

  • Amp Draw For the MaxxAir MaxxFan #MA00-04500K
The 900 CFM fan of the MaxxAir MaxxFan #MA00-04500K that you referenced needs to be attached to at least a 5 amp circuit. So it's max draw would be 5 amps.

  • Fully Remote Controlled Operation of Vent Lid and Fan on MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus 4500K
The MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus - Smoke # MA00-04500K does come with the fully functional remote. It will allow you to operate all functions of the vent and fan as you mentioned. The only manual override option is for the vent to open when there is no power being used and that manual operation actually restricts the automatic closing option of the rain sensor. I've attached a video to assist further. The thermostat control is an excellent feature to conserve energy only running the fan as needed.

  • Can the Rain Sensor on a MaxxAir Vent be Overridden
MaxxAir vents that have an integrated rain sensor, like the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent # MA00-04500K, do not allow you to override the sensor. If you were to override it you would be allowing rain to hit the motor which could definitely damage it. The sensor will close the lid and shut off the fan when it is wet, but when it dries up the vent will open up and turn the fan back on.

  • Comparing the MaxxFan 00-04500K and Fan-Tastic 803350
The MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan part # MA00-04500K and the Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan part # FV803350 are pretty much two different companies take on the same vent fan. They both have a powered lift dome, can be thermostatically controlled, and have a rain sensor. However they do have some key differences which I will point out for you below. You can then use these to see which vent fan would be a better fit for you. MaxxFan MA00-04500K Pros: - Dual Lifting Arms...

  • Trailer Roof Vent Recommendation for Auto Close with Rain
We have the MaxxAir roof vent part # MA00-04500K. It has a remote control, thermostat, and rain sensor that will automatically lower the lid when it rains. You'll have to reopen it when the rain stops as the rain sensor is covered by the lid and would not be able to sense dry weather.

  • Troubleshooting Lid Not Lowering on MaxxAir Fan 49511KS
Since the vent lid and fan function correctly when you press the ON button on your vent, but the lid does not close when you press OFF, this suggests that there is a mechanical issue with the lid hinge. If it did not open either then this could suggest a bad motor, but that does not appear to be the case. I suggest you carefully inspect the lid mechanism for any signs of bent, worn or damaged parts, or any trapped dirt. If all appears to be intact you can try applying some silicone-based...

  • Roof Vent for Dog Box Truck Topper
I do have an option for you but we do not have any roof vents with 12 volt fans that would install on just a single piece of aluminum like what is on your dog box. The MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent part # MA00-04500K is designed for roofs between 2" - 6-1/2" thick so the interior bracket would more than likely have nothing to attach to. Instead, of a powered vent I recommend using the Redline 2-Way Pop-Up Roof Vent part # 9106-2756 which will install flush on the aluminum and will not require...

  • Troubleshooting Roof Vent That Fan and Lid Power Stopped working
If your roof vent, like the MaxxFan Plus # MA00-04500K, is supposed to operate via the control panel then it sounds like you need to check the connection from the panel to the vent and if that looks good the connection from the vent to where it is powered. If only one part was not working then it could be that one part malfunctioned but since everything stopped working altogether it sounds like it isn't getting power.

  • Troubleshooting MaxxAir Vent Fan that Won't Turn On and Rain Sensor Light On
I spoke with my contact at MaxxAir regarding your vent like the MaxxFan # MA00-04500K. He said what you are experiencing might be caused by a short in the rain sensor. Since that light is coming off and on, this is likely the issue and what is also causing the fan not to turn on. He recommended taking a rag with some rubbing alcohol and simply cleaning out this sensor. Hopefully once it is cleaned out, everything should start working again as normal. If you are still having issues,...

  • Rain Sensor Will Not Allow MaxxFan 4501K to Work Properly
Yes, according to my contact at MaxxFan you can simply unplug the connector for the rain sensor from the circuit board in order to bypass it. They were not able to provide me with the location of the connector you will need to remove but if you trace the wires from the sensor to the circuit board that should tell you which one it is. If the fan works once the rain sensor is removed then you know that was the issue but if the fan still does not operate there is an issue with the circuit...

  • Will the MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus # MA00-04500K Restart and Open when it Stops Raining
Yes, once the rain sensor on the MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus # MA00-04500K is dry it will restart the fan and open the lid automatically. If there is any rain that is on the sensor then it will remain closed. My contact at MaxxAir confirmed this. This roof vent will fit all standard 14" x 14" roof openings and will do a great job at keeping your trailer or RV well circulated. It comes with all of the mounting screws and hardware that you will need, but you will need to purchase the sealant,...

  • Rain Sensor Location on MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent # MA00-04500K
The rain sensor itself on the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent # MA00-04500K that you referenced is located at the far right corner away from the lid assembly on the fan. I have attached an image pointing out the sensor that you can check out as well. When the sensor detects rain (or snow) it will automatically close the vent and shut the fan off to prevent the interior of your RV or trailer from getting wet. This means you can leave the vent open and running without having to worry about what...

  • Roof Vent Lid will Open but Not Close with Remote on MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent Assembly
Is there a clicking noise when the "close" button on the remote is pressed? Does the fan stop moving when the "close" button on the remote is pressed? If you hear a clicking noise then the motor is likely faulty but if the fan doesn't stop moving then the issue is likely a fault in the circuit board. If the unit was just purchased then I recommend contacting the vendor to have a warranty claim filed.

  • Rain Sensor On MaxxFan Plus Blinking and Fan Is Not Working
It sounds like the rain sensor is shorting out on the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent part # MA00-04500K since it is blinking and the vent is not working properly. According to MaxxFan if you clean the sensor with a rag and rubbing alcohol it should start working again. Please let me know if this doesn't help and we can troubleshoot further.

  • Replacement Lid Needed for Maxxair 4951 Vent on 2018 Grand Design
Thank you for all of the info! Based off of that, and another question a customer sent in of the Maxxair 4951 on their 2018 Grand Design Reflection, the roof vent that you have is the same as the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan # MA00-04500K so your replacement lid is either part # MA10A40002K in white or part # MA10A40009K in smoke. We don't have the clear lid but either of these will fit great with your MaxxAir.

Even though vents like the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent # MA00-04500K were designed for trailers, it is becoming more and more popular to use them for different applications. You should be able to install this unit no problem on your ARE fiberglass truck cap but the installation will be totally custom and you will want to use some plywood to help support it.
