Automatic Rain Sensor

MaxxFan Plus Rain Sensor

The MaxxFan Plus has a rain sensor that detects when it starts to rain or snow. The sensor then automatically closes the roof vent and shuts the fan off, preventing the interior of your RV or trailer from getting wet. This allows you to leave your vent open and running without having to worry about the weather. Once the sensor has dried, you'll be able to open the vent and turn the fan back on. To deactivate the rain sensor, press the rain sensor button on the keypad.

Reversible, Variable-Speed Fan with Thermostat

MaxxFan Plus Fan Motor

The 12-volt, variable-speed fan has 2 modes of operation: manual and auto. When the fan is in manual mode, you can choose from 10 different speeds to increase or reduce the airflow as needed. Auto mode works in conjunction with the fan's thermostat.

To enter auto mode, press the auto mode button on either the remote control or keypad. Once the fan is in auto mode, the thermostat is activated with a set temperature of 78 degrees F. Pressing the arrow keys on either the remote or keypad changes the set temperature in 1 degree increments. When the thermostat is set, it senses the room temperature and automatically turns the fan on if it is above the set temperature. The fan shuts off when the set temperature has been reached. If the room temperature rises, the fan turns on again. This keeps your RV cool and comfortable and saves you from having to adjust the fan by hand. The auto mode also saves energy by running the fan no more than necessary, especially while you're away or asleep.

This fan is reversible, which means you are able to both exhaust stale air out of your RV and bring fresh air in from the outside. To enter ceiling fan mode, close the vent while the fan is still running. The fan then circulates the air inside your RV like a ceiling fan.

The fan has a fuse-protected, ball bearing motor that is sealed to keep out dust, dirt, and moisture.

Remote Control and Keypad

Remote for MaxxFan Plus

The remote control has a built-in LCD screen so that it's easy to see the current settings. The remote enables you to operate the vent and fan from afar, including opening or closing the dome and turning the fan on or off. With the remote, you can also control the fan speed, the direction of the airflow, and the set temperature for the thermostat.

The remote comes with a cradle, which mounts to the wall. When it's not in use, the remote can be stored in the cradle. Hardware and 2 AAA batteries are included. The low-battery indicator located on the top-center area of the screen lets you know when it's time to change the batteries.

Keypad for MaxxFan Plus

Like the remote control, the flush-mounted keypad on the vent allows you to operate the vent, the fan, and the thermostat. The rain sensor can only be activated or deactivated from the keypad.

Powered-Lift Dome with Twin Arms

MaxxFan Plus Dual Arms

The dome on this roof vent is constructed of durable high-density polyethylene, and it is translucent so that some natural light can shine through. When it's closed, the dome provides a seamless, low-profile appearance that blends into the roof of your RV.

This powered-lift dome opens and closes automatically, which means no hand cranking is needed. And unlike a dome that has only 1 arm, this dome is supported by 2 sturdy arms so that it will not flutter during high winds or while you are driving.

The dome has a sensor that will automatically shut off the lift motor when an obstruction is encountered or when the dome reaches the end of its travel. So, for example, if the dome cannot open all the way under your vent cover, a sensor will stop the dome once it has opened as far as it can.

MaxxFan Plus Manual Knob

And a manual hand knob is built into the underside of the vent to allow you to open and close the dome if your RV loses power.

Removable Bug Screen

MaxxFan Plus Bug Screen

This vent has a bug screen that helps keep insects and debris out of your RV. It is secured to the vent with 4 built-in retainer clips. These clips make it easy to remove the screen for cleaning or maintenance. Just rotate the clips, and the screen will pop out.

Installation

The MaxxFan Plus vent fits standard 14" x 14" openings in the roof of an RV, camper, or enclosed trailer. A white interior trim piece (or garnish), insulated electrical connectors, and hardware are included for installation. The vent also has a molded-in mounting flange that is lined with a rubber weather seal, which helps prevent leaks. Roof sealant (sold separately) is required for installation.

To install, connect the two wires on the vent to your RV's electrical system. The black wire is for power, and the white wire is for ground. Then insert the MaxxFan Plus into the opening in the roof and mount the flange to the roof. To finish, trim the garnish as needed to fit the thickness of your roof and install it.

MaxxFan Plus With FanMate Cover

For extra rain protection, install a MaxxAir FanMate vent cover (sold separately) using the molded mounting tabs located on the flange. The tabs are designed to align with the integrated brackets on the FanMate, allowing for a no-drill, tool-free installation. These tabs also have rubber inserts that prevent water from seeping in under the flange.

Video Transcript for MaxxAir RV Vents and Fans - Roof Vent - MA00-04500K Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus. This is a trailer roof vent. It's going to feature a reversible variable speed fan that's going to allow you to precisely control air movement in and out of your RV. It's going to feature a 10 speed design, and it can be used as a ceiling fan. It will operate when the lid is in the closed position, which is really going to help circulate air inside your trailer. A few key features that I want to mention while we have the lid open. Is you're going to notice, right here, that it has a really nice rubber seal that goes around the perimeter of the opening.

That's going to do a great job at creating a tight, water tight seal with the lid closed. That's really going to help keep dirt and moisture out of this area here. This component right here is going to be the motor. This is a sealed, ball bearing motor. It's built to last a long time.

Right here is going to be a built in rain sensor. This is going to automatically detect moisture, and when it detects moisture it'll automatically turn the fan off and close the lid. If you open the lid manually, the rain sensor will not close the fan lid, so keep that in mind. This is going to be a smoke colored lid. Plastic construction. Knife drawn durable design.

It is translucent, so it will let some light in. It's also going to feature two lifting arms. That's going to provide sturdy support for the lid when it's open. It's really going to help withstand high winds without fluttering, and it can remain fully open while you're driving. I'm going to go ahead and close it, and then we'll go over some other features.

Now, this unit does feature an adjustable thermostat that's going to let you control the temperature inside your RV or trailer while you're away or sleeping. Ultimately, what that does is that helps save energy by running the fan no more than necessary. It is going to feature an automatic setting of 78 degrees, so you would push the thermostat button and hold that down to set it to that temperature. It can be adjusted in increments of 1 degree. Just follow the outline that's in the included instructions when it comes to adjusting that. I, also, want to point out that it comes with the interior trim piece or garnish, so this is included. It's going to give the inside a nice, clean finished look. I'm going to set that aside, so we can go over some more details about the fan itself. Now, one of the other things that you'll notice is that it is a nice low profile plastic dome. When it's in the fully closed position and installed on your application, it is only going to sit above the roof about 3 3/4". That's measuring from the bottom of the flange to the top of the dome right here. When it's in the fully open position, that's going to extend the opening to about 12 1/2" above the roof. That's going to extend the overall height about 12 1/2" above the roof. It's going to have the molded end, white plastic flange that's got your mount holes that's kind of punched. They're not all the way through, but it does indicate where to install your hardware. That's going to help prevent leaks. It's also going to feature a flush mounted keypad. That's this right here. It's very easy to access. It's very easy to use, and it's very easy to clean. It's going to come with a remote control. This is going to allow you to easily control all of the functions of the fan without actually having to reach up and push a button. The remote control's a nice feature. It's got a nice large display on it that's a digital display, and it's going to come with a wall cradle and hardware to get that installed. It's also going to come with the included batteries. It's going to feature a removable insect screen. That's just got these retaining knobs that you can just rotate out of the way to remove that. It allows for easier removal and easy cleaning. Again, that interior trim piece or garnish is included. It's also going to feature these waterproof, molded mounting tabs. These are going to allow for fast and tool free installation of a MaxxAir FanMate Vent Cover. If you want to do that, that is sold separately. Now, this is going to be a standard opening size, or it's going to fit into a standard vent opening size or fan opening size. It does make it really easy to replace or upgrade an old vent model or an old vent. It's going to come with all the necessary electrical connectors and hardware to get the unit fully installed. Now, this is designed to fit roofs with a thickness of 2" to 6 1/2" thick. If the roof is less than 2" thick, the sealing must be built up. It requires 12V DC and minimum of 5Amp service. When it comes to the fan specifications, the fan itself is going to give us a diameter of about 12". That's going to be a 10 blade design. The unit's designed to install into a roof opening of 14" x 14" or 14 1/4" x 14 1/4", right in that area. Again, everything that you need for the installation is included. It is a good idea to get some caulk or sealant to put around the flange, just to create a nice weather tight and water tight seal. The last thing that I want to mention is I just want to go ahead and go over the overall dimensions. We're just going to be taking a look at the length and width of the unit. If we're measuring here one point of the flange to the same point on the other side, outside edge to outside edge, we're looking at about 18 1/8". Then, if we take a look at the measurement that we have front to back, that's going to measure about 16 1/2". Again, right here you're going to notice it just has a sticker right here that it does have a rain sensor. You're going to have your control knob for manual adjustment. Then, you're going to have your keypad that's going to allow for automatic adjustment as well as the remote that allows you to control all the functions of the fan. You're going to have the ability to open and close. You're going to have the ability to control the rain sensor. You're going to have the ability to control the on and off function of the fan as well as the speed. This is the thermostat button, and then you're also going to have the ability to control the direction that the fan blades are spinning. That's going to do it for today's look at the MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus Trailer Roof Vent.

Product worked out wonderfully except for my shortcoming of finding the proper power supply. It was shipped immediately, arrived on time and without damage. Can't ask for much more than that. I can now use my smoke detectors and vent my kitchen area as the OEM manual vent was inaccessable and useless. 509954

Still loving it. So glad I changed out that useless manual vent in the 9 foot ceiling.

Very nice unit. I like having the remote (that this unit comes with) as it gives more programing options than the simple keypad on the bottom of the unit. Installed in less than a hour or so and works great. 629788

Great Quality Product. Finally arrived after a delay (back-ordered). Glad I waited though. Would be nice if the item had been "in stock" and shipped right away. BUT......Definitely worth the wait. This vent (unlike most) is going on the top of a Yurt which is used for a hunting camp. Should help with ventilation in and out and reduce potential condensation. Thanks eTrailer!! 417617

I ordered and installed a MaxxAir 4500K Vent fan to install in our cabover area of our Class C motorhome from Etrailer.com . This is the second one we installed, the first one in the RV bathroom is still working great after about 1 years time. Reason I installed a 2nd one is so we can have one fan exhaust air while the other fan pulls air into the RV and thereby create a wind tunnel through the RV so we can close and lock the windows but still cool the RV in moderately warm weather when we want to leave the dog in the RV and go somewhere with everything locked up. I chose Etrailer for this purchase because they had a good price and they show MaxxAir as one of their partner brands and state the fan has a 2 year manufacture warranty right on the page where it is listed. The fan was shipped quickly and I was pleased it wasn't old stock, the model label on the fan showed 2018 manufactured. I also bought a Maxx II cover for it. 554396

Do not waste your time and money shopping around. unless your repairing an urban assault vesicle, this is your best option. As others have said, customer service, shipping and products are excellent. The vents were at my front door before I decided which one I wanted.. I am thinking of re-purposing the packaging, maybe a cat house... The Rep from etrailer was asking me how everything was before I could get the box open. If you travel to dangerous areas your going to want a steel frame and polycarbonate domes. I lost 3 vents, the shower skylight and the rear window to vandals. etrailer saves the day! Thank you. 547438

Product design is aesthetically pleasing and construction appears to be very durable. Purchased this particular fan over another popular brand because of its low profile when closed and because it has dual actuator door support arms. Product will be used in my teardrop trailer build so I was wanting something compact yet attractive. I'm not to the point where I can actually test the operation of the fan at this time. Hopefully soon. Thank you etrailer.com for another great product at a great price and as usual, superior costumer service. 433309

As an owner of 2 RV's, I discovered etrailer.com in the process of maintaining my 2006 Komfort travel trailer. I required 2 Maxxair fans. After shopping on the net, I found etrailer to have the best prices and they also had, that I couldn't find anywhere else, stainless steel braided LP gas supply line for my LP tanks. After placing the order they have stayed in touch with me about every process of my receiving them. They were packaged very well to held avoid shipment damage. These folks have shown me a great deal of respect and appreciation and I will be a loyal customer because of this. Great web site, and a good selection of products at great prices. What more could anyone expect. By the way, in my opinion, the Maxxair fans are great. I chose the 4500K. 388531

Received unit in good shape and on time. Due to weather it was a few days before I installed it. Instructions were easy and supplied hardware was great. Unfortunately it did operate as it should. It would not open unless I manually did it, will close just fine with the motor. I am in contact with manf. Apparently this has happened before in the reviews I read. Hopefully AIRXCEL will do good and maybe a new circuit board. I have this in NorthStar pop up truck camper, 10 speeds is great makes a quiet night. 570745

I have 200w of solar panels running this. Comes on automatically when it gets warm (vent opens and fan runs). Fan runs slower when temperature differential is small and runs faster when it needs to. Vent closes automatically and fan shuts off when rain is detected. Stays closed until reset. Fan can be set to pull air in. Can use the remote control to set the temperature of your choice. Remote is optical. 681489

Received products quickly! I did have a question regarding the wiring and called to verify since our old bathroom fan had more wiring. Within minutes it was hooked up and ready to go. They only product I would suggest to get is Butyl Tape or proper sealant before starting, saves time. We used Butyl Tape and its working great. The features on this fan are wonderful and love having a remote control. I did mount the base for it just beneath the existing switches, as the original on/off switch needs to remain on for remote to work properly. When the remote is in the holder it covers the switch. There are two features that I have experienced and love about this unit. 1) Temperature control settings and 2) Fan can be reversed bring in fresh air. We also installed the MaxxAir II RV and Trailer Roof Vent Cover - 22-3/4" x 18-1/2" x 9-3/8" - White - MA00-933072 because we like leaving the vent open at times when rv is not in use and not hooked up to electricity. This prevents weather elements from entering and also keeping birds from using it as a nesting site. 666344

They are AWESOME, 1 over the bed area & 1 in the bathroom ....They work like a Home /Whole House system. Air IN over the bed ,thru the trailer Out the Bathroom. I run these alot & NO Problems! Highly Recommend this fan, You'll Love them too. 635776

Love the fan! I just wish that the remote didn't have to be pointed directly at the fan in order for it to work. 585697

Unit is working as expected. Runs much quieter than OEM fan. Additional fan speeds give so much more flexibility. Use of the remote allows for better temperature regulation while we are away from the RV. Placement of the remote is critical as it has to have line of sight to the sensor in fan. That is the only negative issue and we can work around that without any adverse problems. 581789

I delayed writing this review until after I installed the vent fan. Having used other brands over the years, I was reluctant to change to Maxxair. Besides the cost savings, the quality of the new vent is far superior than expected. East install, quiet operation and complete without having to purchase "extras" to finish out the project. Model numbers are CLEAR and easily understood when price shopping. When my other two fans quit, (and with todays quality, they will), I'm going with the Maxxair MA00-04500K. 545445

I recieved my order on time and installed it the next day. Great product, I replaced a vent in our Arthur's wheel bedroom with the max fan. Works great and the ability to reverse the fan is a real plus along with the rain sensor, temperature controls and the remote makes it perfect. As always trailer was great and I will be a return customer 430312

We installed this unit in our Sprinter van. Very quiet and love the 10 speed capability. The unit can be controlled via a remote control which makes it super convenient. Light years ahead of the competition. 381618

  • Installing MaxxFan Plus in New Travel Trailer
  • All you will need to install the MaxxFan Plus # MA00-04500K vent and fan is a standard 14" x 14" opening and roof that is between 2" and 6-1/2" thick. Since your trailer came with a pair of MaxxFans already it is a very good bet your current vents are installed in an opening that size. Though it is not possible to know if the mounting holes will line up as I am unsure of the model number of your current MaxxFans, the MaxxFan Plus does come with the needed garnish (instead of using your...

This could have failed, perhaps from damage from an impact from a tree branch or something like that. You can try turning this feature off. • How to Select the Correct Replacement Roof Vent and Roof Vent Lid or Cover 2012 Dutchmen Aerolite

Dutchmen will normally provide literature on the specific appliance and fan models with the purchase of the trailer. • Recommended Roof Vent for 2013 Ford Transit Connect
  • I have a couple of different options for a roof vent on your 2013 Ford Transit. A lot of our roof vents sit around the same height, so it really just depends on what kind of style you would like to have. The Ventline Ventadome # V2110SP-24 is a good option because it only adds 2 inches in height when closed, and 11 inches in height when opened. You can also make sure that your roof vent matches the rest of your Transit by painting it. This manual vent doesn't include a fan and requires...

For your 4900K model you will want the Replacement Operator Mechanism for MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus or MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vents # MA10-20281K-1AF. If you can't even manually lift the lid, this mechanism is definitely the issue.

  • What is Needed to Know to Replace Fan-Tastic Roof Vent
  • While your photos of the fan did not come through, and we would not be able to reference a model number from a remote to a Fan-Tastic roof vent, the good news is you don't need to replace your vent with the exact same model. The only thing that you need to know is the size of the cut out of the opening in your roof, which should be the standard 14" x 14", as well as your roof thickness. The options for a powered vent with a remote are the following, all of which fit the standard roof...

  • Fully Remote Controlled Operation of Vent Lid and Fan on MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus 4500K
  • The MaxxAir MaxxFan Plus - Smoke # MA00-04500K does come with the fully functional remote. It will allow you to operate all functions of the vent and fan as you mentioned. The only manual override option is for the vent to open when there is no power being used and that manual operation actually restricts the automatic closing option of the rain sensor. I've attached a video to assist further. The thermostat control is an excellent feature to conserve energy only running the fan as needed.

  • Can the Rain Sensor on a MaxxAir Vent be Overridden
  • MaxxAir vents that have an integrated rain sensor, like the MaxxFan Plus Roof Vent # MA00-04500K, do not allow you to override the sensor. If you were to override it you would be allowing rain to hit the motor which could definitely damage it. The sensor will close the lid and shut off the fan when it is wet, but when it dries up the vent will open up and turn the fan back on.
