When you pull up to the camp site, before you start getting unloaded, plug this surge protector into the power pedestal and find out if you need to request a new site. It's not uncommon to find faulty wiring, especially at older campsites. Checking the power supply first will save you the headache of finding out later that there are problems with the power outlet forcing you to pack up and move to a new location.

Protect Your Investment

Using a surge protector is the smart way to protect all the appliances in your RV that could be permanently damaged by major spikes in voltage caused by lightning.

This surge protector can withstand 4,200 joules of power surges until the internal components are rendered inoperable. The device will still function as a circuit tester, but when the surge protection LED no longer lights up, it won't keep your RV safe from further spikes. While you will have to buy a new surge protector, it's done its job saving you the cost of replacing appliances or electric devices that might have been damaged instead.

Circuit Tester and Surge Protector All in One

The circuit testing feature of this surge protector can detect the most common electrical issues you might run into, letting you know if it's safe to plug in your RV. If 3 LEDs light up green, you're good to go.

Detail of SurgeMinder error codes

The key on the face of the surge protector will let you know about the presence of 8 other conditions, from no power at all to reversed wires. Regardless of the error you encounter, you'll want to get a new site and inform management of the situation.

Video Transcript for All About the Mighty Cord SurgeMinder Surge Protector and Circuit Tester

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the SurgeMinder 50 amp Surge Protector and Circuit Tester. Now, while your basic surge protector will keep your RV electronics safe from power spikes, this SurgeMinder Surge Protector will indicate eight common outlet faults to keep your electronics safe from faulty campsite power along with the normal power spikes. Basically, this surge protector is rated to protect 50 amp circuits and it is also available in a 30 amp version if you need that. We do sell that separately on our website.

It's listed on this product page as a related product and it's part number SU39SR. But I wanted to zoom in and talk about this surge protector. If we lift the cover up, then you can see the front of it. But basically if you look at the top here the three LEDs that go across, these will illuminate in different patterns to indicate if the power is steady or if there's a problem. And then what you'll do is depending on what color lights how they light up, you compare those LED lights to this legend down here and it shows you when you match it up, it'll determine up to eight errors.

You can see them all listed there and you match it to what error it is so you know what to fix. On the very bottom, there's two LEDs. One here that says surge protection. When that's on, it's letting you know that it's surge protected. This light over here, if that comes on, that's telling you it's overheated.

And they have a nice clear cover that you can see through there. Does use a convenient finger grip you can see to go to install this, ease of use. It's very easy to install. You just plug it into your pedestal, check for the safe circuit and then connect your RV shore power right down here to this plug right here. They're all plug into four prong outlets.

You can see the four prongs there and up here is a four prong also. And it is compatible with power cord adapters. Also, it's nice, you can see when you plug in your plug here, the cord will run through the bottom here. You can close this for protection and then you can actually put a lock through there. They do include this little padlock with two keys that you could lock that to keep anybody from accessing it. And right here they give you a legend that is in French. If by chance, the legend on there is in English, but if you do want it in French, you could just apply that over it. But that should do it for the review on this SurgeMinder 50 amp Surge Protector and Circuit Tester.

  • Can A 50 Amp RV Surge Protector Be Used At A Campsite With Only 30 Amp Service
Yes, it's very common that most campsites only offer 30 amp service and you would not have an issue still using your SurgeMinder Surge Protector and Circuit Tester - 50 Amps # SU99SR to protect the trailer along with an adapter to connect to the 30 amp power pedestal. When it comes to surge protectors for trailer's you'll always want to match the trailer and not the pedestal, so you wouldn't want to switch to a lower rated surge protector.
