Video Transcript for Valterra ABS Solvent Cement Review

Conner: Hey guys. Conner here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the ABS Weld-On Solvent. Now, the Valterra ABS Weld-On Solvent is going to be used so we can fuse together all of our sewer lines on our coach or motor home. Essentially, this differs from normal cement in that this is actually going to form a fusion weld with the ABS plastic. It's specifically designed for this exact purpose. Similar to what we might find for PVC pipes where it's actually cement, this is going to cause a chemical reaction with the plastic and form a nice tight and secure seal.

But please keep in mind, since we are dealing with chemicals here, we always want to make sure we have the proper protection such as safety gloves and our safety glasses.I'm going to show you how to use this, but if we could just take a quick look right here. You can see it's inaudible 00:00:47 of a slimy gooey substance. We're essentially going to show you how to use this. Let's start out with, we're just going to be coating the outer diameter of the pipes as well as the inner diameter of the fitting. That's going to take about three minutes for this to set up and then it will be safe to handle the fittings.

However, it is going to take a full 30 minutes to cure. We always want to make sure before we use this the lid is on nice and tight. We want to give it a good shake to make sure all the materials are mixed around. The Valterra ABS Weld-On Solvent has a shelf life of about three years. It comes in this nice convenient quarter size pint, and today we're going to be showing you how to use this when we install the waste valves on our motor home here.So what we're going to do here is open our can up.

Once we have it open, we're going to take our solvent here and we're essentially just going to try to get it around the outer diameter of the pipe, making sure not to make too much of a mess. Once we have a good coat of the solvent around the outside diameter of the pipe, we can go ahead and press on our first coupler here. And then we want to push that all the way back to make sure we get as much as a seal as possible with the pipe, and then we're going to let that dry for a few minutes and we can move on to the other side. Make sure when we're putting on our ABS sealant that we coat not only the outside diameter of the pipe, but also the inner diameter of the fitting as well. Now we're just going to continue on piecing everything back together. Now that we have everything in place, we're going to want to go ahead and give it some time to let everything seal and cure over time.

I would say around 20 or 30 minutes or so. And then we can go into the RV and pour some water down our sinks and our toilet so we can test everything out to make sure there's no leaks. Upon visual inspection here, we don't see any leaks. However, what you want to do is take a piece of cardboard, set it under the valves and make sure. Let it sit for about five to 10 minutes and make sure you don't see any leaks. That'll let us know that all the fittings in the pipes are secure. However, we do want to remove our bayonet cap here and make sure the valves are sealed as well. As you can see, we don't have any water here, so we know those have done their job. That's going to do it here today for the Valterra ABS Weld-On Solvent.

I had a broken lug on the black sewer line. Purchased a new adapter and abs cement to replace it. Cut through the old adapter in 3 places and broke it loose using a hammer and screw driver. Removal was straight forward and not as difficult as expected. The new part fit perfectly and the abs glue welded right on. No dripping black water! 705859

I had a little mishap this past winter and didn't do a very good job of winterizing my RV and ended up with busted grey water drain pipes. After checking at the local big-box hardware store (parts not available) and a well-known camping retailer ($$$$$) I logged onto etrailer and, "voila" ...there's what I need to do the repairs. After a short conversation with George J. to confirm they were the correct parts I placed my order and even with "economy shipping" my parts were here and installed in about a week without breaking the bank. etrailer always seems to have the right product at the right price and very fast shipping! 496647

Ask the Experts about this Valterra RV Sewer

  • Adapter for 3 RV Gray Water Tank Opening to 1-1/2 Pipe and Waste Valve
From what I can gather it sounds to me like you need the Valterra Eccentric Tank Reducer - RV Gray Water - 3" Spigot to 1-1/2" Hub # T1041-1. The 3" Spigot mounts directly in the gray water tank outlet while the 1-1/2" Hub slides over sewer pipe. Then for a 1-1/2" diameter gray-water sewer pipe we have the LaSalle Bristol Cable-Actuated RV Waste Valve for Gray Water Tank. This is valve is available in with cables that are numerous lengths, which I'll list for you so you can choose the...

  • How to Fix Leaky Sewer Hose Connectors
There is always going to be some degree of tolerance for sewer fittings from and within different manufacturers. It will be best to use the same brands but it is not necessarily a rule. Most of the time, a leak occurs form the lack of a sealant like part # A05-0303 on threaded connections or a bad o-ring inside the spigot or bayonet fittings. The majority of our sewer connectors and adapters are from Camco and Valterra. We have found the two to work well together assuming the above is performed....

  • Double RV Waste Valves for Gray and Black Water Valve
Thanks for the photo and based on that we do have a replacement that will work for you although you are going to need to know what your gray water pipe and black water pipe connections are - either spigot or hub - which I'll explain but you are going to need to remove your valve to find this out. Basically, hubs on the valves slide OVER your RV's water lines while the spigots on the valves slide INTO the water lines. When you take off your current valve, pay attention to if it slides...

  • How to Choose the Correct Valterra EZ Valve Electric Waste Valve for RV Black Water Tank
The difference between a hub connection and a spigot connection is that the hub is the female end and has a lip on the inside that stops the spigot (or male) end where it needs to be. I have attached some pictures to assist. With this knowledge it is just a matter of taking your valve off and choosing the correct replacement: 3" Hub to 3" Hub - # E40B-8 3" Hub to 3" Spigot - # E40-8 3" Spigot to 3" Spigot - # E40A-8 I would avoid going with the option that only has the 3" Diameter...

  • Installation of Waste Master Sewer Hose System on a Tiffin Motorhome
There isn't a minimum amount of space listed as being required between the Waste Master female end and the pipe on the RV. That 1-1/4 inches you have will be sufficient for Waste Master system # LC359724. The overall length of the female fitting is approximately 4-3/8 inches. The proper glue to use will be an ABS solvent, # A05-0303. Apply it to both the female part of the Waste Master and the RV pipe. Push on the female end and rotate 90 degrees and hold it there for at least 30 seconds....

  • Parts Needed to Install New Waste Valve and Waste Master RV Sewer Hose
Which waste valve you'll need for your black water tank on your RV depends on the fitting that you have on your vehicle currently. As an example, if you have a male threaded hose that fits over the waste valve you'll want to use the Valterra Waste Valve for RV Black Water Tank - 3" MPT to 3" Lug # T50C. I've linked our selection of waste valves to this answer that will allow you to choose the appropriate connection. It is recommended that you use Valterra ABS Solvent # A05-0303 to complete...

  • How To Install Valterra Eccentric Tank Reducer
The Valterra Eccentric Tank Reducer part # T1041-1 has a 3" spigot end which installs inside the neck on the waste water tank and then a 1-1/2" hub end which you would slide a pipe into. In order to secure the spigot end into the neck on the tank you will want to use some gasket maker part # LT37467 on the outside of the spigot fitting or on the inside of the water neck and then use a band clamp part # H03-0009 to clamp down on the waste water neck and hold the spigot fitting in place....

  • Replacement Black/Gray Water Valve and Fittings for a 1998 Newmar Dutch Star
It looks like only one of your photos came through but I think I will be able to get you the parts and advice you need based on this. For starters, the Double RV Waste Valves part # T81 will be correct for the black and gray water waste valves. In order to connect the 3" waste valve to your black water tank it looks like you just have two 90 degree street elbows tied together. To replace these, we have Valterra Street DWV Fitting for RV Sewer System part # D50-2882 which can then be joined...

  • Sewer Drain Valve and Hose Needed for Current Drain System
Since sewage connectors do need a proper seal (typically by using solvent # A05-0303) I do recommend changing out some of your sewage pipes as they are looking a bit rough. It does look like you have a 3" round pipe from your photo so if you were to keep your current system you could possibly use a Fernco rubber sleeve to connect the Valterra Coupling # F02-2025BK to either an extension or to the Valterra Bladex Waste Valve # T50. If you need an extension you will put this waste valve...

  • Removing and Installing Valterra Eccentric Tank Reducer # T1041-1
The Valterra Eccentric Tank Reducer, part # T1041-1, is installed with cement. When you reinstall the new one use # A05-0303. The cement is permanent so you're not going to be able to break it up. Instead you need to cut the pipes after removing the hose clamps. Then replace it with the new one and apply the new cement. The same cement can be used on other plumbing parts as well.

  • Can ABS Solvent Be Used to Repair RV Waste Valve that Broke at the ABS Cement

  • How to Remove Old Sewage Drain Assembly to Install Valterra Double RV Waste Valves
Yes, when replacing sewer parts that have been installed with ABS Solvent Cement like part # A05-0303 you will need to cut the pipe right where the old valve is installed so you can install the Valterra Waste Valves # TR38. If you think this will reduce your sewer pipe by too much then you may need to cut most of the old pipe off and add a new piece that is about the same current length. We don't carry any replacement pipe but you should be able to find some at your local hardware or...

This secures to your pipe with solvent # A05-0303. I would love to help but I do not have any information that tells me what size drain pipes are on your 2007 Keystone Passport Ultralite so you will need to measure this for yourself. The standard size is 1-1/2" for the grey water tanks and 3" for the black water tanks. If this is what you have then you will want to use the Double RV Waste Valves part # T80. • Dimensions of Valterra EZ Valve Double Electric Waste Valves
I went to take some measurements of the Valterra EZ Valve Double Electric Waste Valves # E85-8 and found it was about 12 inches wide as in the accompanying photo. The depth was more difficult because it is electric and there are wires on either side but you would need 8 inches at the least for it to fit, so a space that is about 12-1/2" by 8" minimum would be needed. Also keep in mind that you will need to use ABS Solvent Cement # A05-0303 for installation.

  • Repositioning RV Waste Drain Valves
The Valterra EZ Valve Double Electric Waste Valve # E85-8 is designed to connect to two horizontal 3-inch waste pipes to combine them for dumping through the central tube. From your photo I cannot tell if that is your setup. On this part the two bolt-on valve bodies can be unbolted, rotated to another orientation and then bolted back together. For installations that require it this can give you the needed clearance for the electric motor/handle assemblies. You do need to use ABS solvent...

Thank you for the photo of your RV's P-trap. We offer one RV plumbing P-trap, Valterra RV Sewer P-Trap # D50-2215 that you referenced in your question, which is detailed in the linked photo. • How are RV Sewer Lines Typically Sealed to Each Other and Can they be Separated
RV sewer lines are typically attached using a plastic or solvent weld which can't be separated and the only option is to cut off the entire section that has it and replace what's then missing. There won't be a way to separate the white sealant you have now so you'd be best off just cutting it all off. For ABS solvent then we have the part # A05-0303. I attached a link to a page that has our sewer lines and adapters for more info as well.

  • Connection Questions About Valterra EZ Valve Double Electric Waste Valves
The term, "rotating hubs to lug fitting" means that this product has hubs that slide over your current 3 inch pipes. Once the pipes are inside the hub it is cemented in place with part # A05-0303. This process is different than the fitting on your older valves so you won't need the fernco connectors to connect the fittings and to keep them in place. As long as your existing pipes are 3" the EZ Valve part # E84-8 will fit over your pipes. Then you connect your sewer hose to the lug fitting...
