Video Transcript for Review of SmartPlug RV Power Inlets - Dual Cable Jacks - SM58FR

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this SmartPlug stainless steel RV dual TV and internet inlet coaxial connector plug. Now, if you use the SmartPlug design on your RV now, then this data port'll match your SmartPlug setup while giving you the same weatherproof protection that you're familiar with. It does use the same mounting flange pattern as all the SmartPlug designs. Now these are exterior cable jacks which allow you to easily connect your RV to campground cable services or satellite. You can see it includes the two coaxial F-type connectors and these connectors are easily removable when you do your connection.

You can pop 'em out just like this and then pop 'em right back into place and you're all ready to go. Does have a nice weatherproof cover on it, has a foam gasket right in here, which will protect the inlet when it's not in use. So when you close this all the way, that'll help seal it and protect it. And this is a very easy installation. This foam gasket is included that'll sit flush with your RV, there's no caulk needed.

You just attach it to there when you go to attach it and then put it onto your RV. It is a UV heat-resistant plastic construction. Now all the external metals on this are marine grade 316 stainless steel and these parts are made in the U.S.A. But that should do it for the review on the SmartPlug stainless steel RV dual TV and internet inlet coaxial connector plug..

I haven’t had a chance to use the product yet therefore I can’t comment on it. But etrailer customer service was great and the sale price was the best I see anywhere. I received the product promptly and well packed for shipping.

by:

Very well made. Install was easy. The only thing I would improve is for the connection point to be tight, maybe glued. When tightening down the coax cable the female connector turns. Needle nose plyers did the trick.

by:

The plug was very easy to change. The Smartplug makes set up easy.

by:

Matches my 30 amp connector perfectly and excellent customer service from eTrailer, as always.

The product I received does not have the same center orange insert as pictured. Instead it has an orange insert with two rectangular cutouts, one of them containing the coax. This is a problem for me because I intended to remove the coax and modify the orange insert. Now I have to find and modify a piece of plastic and hope it keeps its watertight integrity.

This was a relatively easy install. I had to make a 5/8 hole in the inner skin of the Airstream to get the cat cable through, but that wasn't hard.

Now I hook up my Starlink with running a cable through the main cabin door. Slick! Love it

by:

This lined up perfectly with the existing holes on my Airstream! Took all of about 1/2 to remove the old one feed the cables and get my starlink connected and online!

by:

Used for an outdoor Ethernet port on my garage deck. Works and looks great. And it’s water tight.

by:

Works perfect for an exterior Starlink port with some slight modification

by:

This awesome smart plug was installed on a 89 feet Azimuth yacht, it was easy to install and it looks like factory.

by:

A good idea, but has a couple issues. The ports are too close together, and make it difficult at times to put one in, while there is a plug occupying the other port. The "coated" screws that came with the connector have already started to discolor. Overall, it is a good, heavy duty product and works as described.

by:

The product worked out perfect for my a pplication.

by:

The ethernet p[lug has failed and I replaced it. Overall the smartplug is working great.

by:

Great product, easy installation. Put it my camp trailer.

by:

The SmartPlug coax/Ethernet connector has allowed me to set up a Starlink dish outside my travel trailer with a clean, easy-to-use connection to the router inside my rig.

by:

This is a very expensive piece but a great way to get an ethernet port cleanly added to your trailer. I simply replaced the existing port that had two coax connectors and installation was a breeze using my existing screws. The silicon gasket compresses nicely and looks watertight. My complaint about this product is the ethernet coupler. The coupler is plastic; it is not a shielded metal coupler. So if you are using shielded ethernet cable you are going to have to jury-rig a solution to maintain the continuity of the shielding. When I terminated my cable on the interior side, I made sure to have an extra long length of the drain wire. I threaded that through the plastic coupler to the exterior so that it would make contact with a shielded connector that was attached to the exterior of the port. It is annoying that on a part this expensive the manufacturer decided to save fifty cents by using an unshielded coupler.

by:

I have an issue with the smart plug. I asked in a chat before I placed the order if the plug came with just one coaxial plug and I was advised that that information was correct. They are shown in your website in that configuration, but it came as shown above. I intend to use the smart plug as an entry point into my airstream travel trailer for my Star Link satellite cable, so I will need to fabricate the back plate to allow me to drill a hole in it for the cam lock connection fitting. Had the unit come with just the one coaxial plug, I could have simply increased the hole size to accommodate the cam lock fitting. Needless to say, but I am less than excited. Perhaps I need to be more clear when asking a question relative to a product.

by:

Loved the process. From order to delivery and follow-up.

by:

Excellent for bringing StarLink v2 into our trailer

by:

So far we really like the product. We have an airstream Bambi and we wanted to replace the plastic factory cable outlet with a stainless steal. Installation was very easy, I took about 15 minutes. All the factory holes aligned up and no other modifications were needed.

by:

This is amazing. Easy to order and the product is a really high quality. I actually ordered this for our yacht.

  • Is There a Plastic SmartPlug RV TV/Internet Inlet with 2 Coax Ports
We do not have an extra/replacement coax port for the SmartPlug RV TV/Internet Inlet # SM88VR, nor do we have a plastic version with 2 coax ports. However, if you already have the SmartPlug RV TV/Internet Inlet # SM58FR, you can remove one of the coax ports and switch it to the plastic SmartPlug. I will also say that the SmartPlug RV TV/Internet Inlet # SM58FR only weighs just over a pound, so it would not be too heavy for an RV sidewall.
