Video Transcript for Review of Touchstone RV Fireplaces - Recessed Mount Fireplace - 277-000407

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. So we're taking a look at the Touchstone Electric Fireplace. This is going to measure 28 inches wide and this is going to be a great addition to any area that you want to add a little extra class, a little extra coziness, and also have a built in space heater. So at the top, in this little rectangle space, we'll have our actual heating element, so this is the part that's actually going to get hot and that's why it says do not cover, because you want to make sure that this is free of any kind of obstructions and that nothing's going to be touching that since it is going to get pretty hot once it's in full swing. It also has the flames, which you might be able to kind of see right now. Those are going to be available in a couple different colors.

Right now it's kind of the orange reddish flames that more mimic a realistic fire.If I turn the lights out in the studio, you might get a better idea of what that looks like. So kind of nice glowing embers with those flames, and then we can adjust those with the buttons up at the top. And I'm going to kind of fumble around in the dark here, but we want to not turn on the heat quite yet. Next to that, we'll have our adjustment for the different flames so you can make them look blue or a combination of the red and blue and then back to normal. You can also adjust the brightness.

So right now it's at the brightest and then if we press the button it's going to gradually get dimmer, which would be five settings, and then it goes back to normal. Now, the heating element doesn't work unless those flames are on, so there's no way to turn the flames off without also turning off the heat. That's kind of a built in safety. That way you have a visual cue that the flames are on or that the heating element is available. You can have just the flames without any heat like I have it here. We're just getting the nice visual effect without actually having our heating element on.

Turn my lights back on here. And again, this is going to be the manual controls up here at the top in that right hand corner. So I'll go through those functions with you. Come around to the front. And kind of towards the middle here we'll have our power and then there's a little hourglass button that's going to be the timer.

So you can adjust that so it's going to turn off in a half hour, an hour, an hour and a half, two hours, two and a half hours, three hours, three and a half hours, and four, and on and on.It's going to go all the way up to seven and a half hours. And it has four different indicators. We have a half hour, hour, two hours, and four hour buttons. So if you add up as many dots as there are corresponding to those different settings, that'll tell you how many hours you have going up there. So I'm just going to cycle this through until we get back to off. Next to that hourglass, we have a little light bulb and that's where we adjust the brightness on our flame. The actual flame icon is going to be to adjust the color and then that final button on the outside, that's going to be to go from low to high heat and off. So press it once, it comes on as low heat and there is a little visual cue. It's the little smaller wiggly lines that denote the actual heat. So you can feel the heaters coming on now. And it's pretty nice and warm, so it definitely will make the area pretty cozy.At the low setting, that's going to be a 750 watt output. And then if we bumped that up to the high heat, it doubles to a 1500 watt output. So pretty good amount of heat to help heat up our RV or our area, wherever we have this. Now, this does come with both the log insert, so it'll have the kind of nice natural looking logs. Or you can switch those out for the crystals. The way you do that is you can just remove the glass. There's two screws on the inside here, one here, and then one on the other side. You undo those with just a Phillips-head screwdriver, lift off the glass, and you can take that off, undo the logs, which are just held in place by two screws on either side back here. So one over here and one corresponding to the same spot on the other side.Again, Phillips-head screw, take that out, pull out the logs, it's just one big piece, and then you want to put this plastic piece in. This does come with it, so don't throw away this long strip because it's not packing material. It's actually so you can have a place to set your crystals on top of. Once the log is out, you put this guy down there and then fill in the crystals. The one thing with the crystals is that there's nothing really keeping those in place, so you want to be careful as you're putting that glass back on there that they don't all spill out. And typically, whenever you're installing this in an RV or a motor home, anything like that, you are going to be on the road, you shouldn't be making any kind of quick maneuvers. But if you happen to make a really sharp turn or come to a very sudden stop, those crystals might shift around because there's nothing really keeping them in place. There's no adhesive or anything like that.So it shouldn't really be an issue. It shouldn't affect the function. But if you come back and realize that all your crystals have shifted to one side, that might be why. So just something to keep in mind there. So now that we've seen what it looks like and how it functions, I'm going to go over some measurements with you guys. I'll turn this off and unplug it. It has a pretty good length of cord, about six feet long. So there we go. Want to unplug it and turn it around so you can see how much space it takes up. Here we'll have our cord. This does work with 120 volt systems, so it works off of AC power. For those of you who are RVs, it will work off your AC or shore power. It does have a grounded plug, so you'll want to make sure that if you don't have a grounded outlet that you get an adapter for that to make sure that it doesn't have any issues there. So I'm going to swing this around. You can see the backside of it. It comes with a wall bracket. So kind of hard to see, there's a band going across. It's held in place by two screws, one on either side, and then also a couple of tabs to hold that in place. You can wall mount this or you can also put it into a recessed area. So, as far as the recessed size, it's about 23 inches long by about 15 and a half inches tall. And then for this portion that actually would go into the wall, it's about 4 and 3/4 inches deep. If we go to the outside, it is 28 inches wide from edge to edge on that glass, and then about 16 and a half inches tall and about 5 inches front to back for the whole thing from the front of the glass to the very back of our bracket and everything. In addition to those crystals, we'll also get the hardware to mount that on the wall. We'll get a couple of wood screws and then also some anchors. You'll get 4 total of each of those, and then we'll also have a remote so you can adjust all those functions from across the room rather than having to come up to the heater to do it every time. So it has these exact same buttons. We'll have power, flame, timer, light, and heat. So you can make all those adjustments from sitting on the couch or sitting on the bed or wherever you might be across the room from the unit. All in all, I think it looks really nice. It should function well for you. It's pretty comparable to the other fireplaces I've seen that we have here at etrailer.com and I think it should make a really nice, cozy addition to anywhere you want to mount it. But that's going to do it for our look at the Touchstone Electric Fireplace.

I’m really impressed with this unit so far. My wife is very particular so I was glad that she was pleased as well. It’s quiet and so far the heat feels fine. We will be testing it out for camping soon. We didn’t have a fireplace before so I had to build a rough opening for it. Everything went well. The book give you the exact rough opening so if you follow that, you should be good. Chose this model for the size. 727744
