Surface-Mount Light

Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Video Transcript for Bargman Utility Flood Beam Light with Switch Review and Installation

Hey guys, Zach here at etrailer.com. And today we're going to be taking a look at this incandescent RV Porch Light from Bargman. This is going to be a rectangular style incandescent porch light for RVs or utility light for enclosed trailers. The best part about this light is that it has a switch on it though, so that makes it pretty versatile. It will allow you to tie it in with other lights. And if you don't want this one on, but you want those others, you can simply just flip that switch. I also see this getting used on different parts around the camper.

If you want it above like a basement door or an area where you're hooking up stuff, this is also a good way to light up those areas. Now, here you can see the difference between a LED and an incandescent. There is a clear difference there, they're definitely different lights, but the LED just has a brighter, cleaner look. The incandescent just looks a little bit more dull, but some people prefer that color temperature a little bit better, of the incandescent. And if you're wanting it to match the rest of the lights on your trailer, the incandescent is still a solid option for you. But I just wanted to show you what the two look like side by side. Now, if you're looking to replace or add a new light, you've probably considered LED over the incandescent, but the incandescent is still going to do a really good job of lighting up your area.

Some people prefer the way that it looks, but one thing to keep in mind with incandescent is, the bulbs in there, they are easy to replace, but they will go out often. So they will not last as long as LEDs because the filament in there just isn't going to hold up to time and the vibrations of going down the road, but really easy to swap out.One thing to keep in mind with this is that it will burn a little bit hot, so flipping the switch after it's been on for a while, it will be a little warm to touch. If that's something you're concerned about, maybe consider the LED option. But it's still going to, I've had this on for probably 10 or 15 minutes and it's warm, but I can still touch it, I'm not concerned about it right now.Now with the angular design, it's going to do a good job of lighting up the area below it. So we're not going to lose a lot of light, that's going straight out from the trailer.

So the reflector on here and the angular design is going to do a good job of spreading that out on the ground. So this is going to be constructed of a pretty durable plastic. There's not a lot of give to it there. Little bit there at the bottom, but side to side, not much. So I think it's going to hold up pretty good to regular wear and tear. Now swapping out those bulbs, when you're popping these off, it's a pretty tight fit.

I have actually broken a few of these, just testing them out before, so that's something that I would kind of be worried about. We sell the replacements for those. So it's maybe a good idea to pick one of those up because I'd hate to break one of those out on a trip and then we'd have that exposed. But overall, when it comes to dimensions, when you're putting this on and replacing one, you can see we're pretty close to our awning support arm right there. This is going to measure at six inches by three and a half. And it's going to have a depth of about two and a quarter inches, just a little under it, but that's pretty standard. That's almost universal. I don't want to say it is universal, but there are a lot of lights out there that fit this same dimension. So it's going to be a really good replacement for you as well.As you can see, I've got the lights turned down in the shop and this is lighting up a good area. I've got a little bit of light leaking in from the windows in the shop next to us, but this gives you a good idea. This is lighting up most of the area around the entrance to our camper, the steps are lit up and that's really what we're looking for. If you want something to light up a much larger area, to provide a little bit more brighter light, if you're looking to kind of hang out on the patio and see a little bit better, the LED is probably a better option, but this is still going to do a good job because not everybody wants their whole area lit up as bright as the LEDs are going to do. So this does a really good job of being effective, being subtle. It's pretty easy to install. So let's just show you how we got this one put on.To begin our installation, I took off our old light and that exposed our power and our ground wires here. I got those striped back and I got our light prepped up. So I put a couple butt connectors on there. It doesn't come with hardware, but I picked these up here. You can also get them at etrailer. And I think they're better than the wire nuts that you would get for your house, just because they're going to hold up better to being on the road and you can get heat shrink if you'd like, but since this is going back in the wall of the camper, I think it'll be just fine. So I'll get those on there and crimp those down. Make sure that they hold in there just fine. Match these up. And I did test it out, I know that my black wire is my power and my white is my ground. It's a good idea to double check on yours as well. Get those crimped down and we can push these wires back in.You can see we've already got some holes in place from where our old light was. And I think that these are just going to match up. These aren't quite universal, but they're usually pretty close. They're all about the same dimensions. Get those fed in. You want to make sure you get those all the way back in, because you don't want to smash it up against your camper. And then I'm going to just use some screws that we're already there holding this in place. If you need to put new holes in, just use a small drill bit to line them up for a pilot hole for yourself. And then you can just use some screws to put those in place. We can just start getting this tightened down to the side of our camper. Then once we get that secured all the way, we can pop our cover back in, hookup our power and test this out.Now you can see this used to have some caulk around it. We can do that as well around here. A lot of the times people just do the top and the sides and they'll leave this bottom exposed just in case a little bit of water gets in, it will allow some to drain out the bottom side there.Right now that we have our power hooked up to our camper. We can turn that on, confirm that it's working and you can see that wasn't too difficult of an installation, especially if we're just replacing an existing light. But that's going to do it for our look at the Bargman RV Porch Light.

Was a like for like replacement on my 2010 toy hauler. Only drawback is that I wish these would come with a reflector to direct the light out of the lens better.

Fast delivery, especially during COVID19 lockdown. Thanks guys. Camper parts matched up perfectly.

The light is beinning used to replace the one that is used to light the hitch area at the front of the trailer. This is the second light I have purchased for this purpose in the ten years I have had the trailer. This is a wet place when traveling in the rain or snow and the light gets a lot of mosture in it. It would be better if the light was weather proof. Since this what the manufacturer installed, I have used the same one for ease of installation and because it is has been less expensive to buy muliple lights than a weather proof one.

- 3478503

Easy installation. Works exactly as described. Swapped the incandescent bulb for an LED.

- 3478503

This light is a direct replacement of the OEM one on my trailer, which was broken by hail. The light is very clear and good quality. I plan to replace the other ones on my trailer with the same item.

- 3478503

The light is fine. When ordered I couldn't find an exact replacement so I knew the mount holes probably would not line up. They didn't. Looking at your site a couple of days after I placed my order, the exact replacement light showed up. I knew I could return the wrong light if I wanted but I didn't want to mess with it. I drilled new mount holes and all works good. Also, I removed the switch from my bad light (my wife backed into it) and used it to repair a similar work light that wasn't working above my holding tank drains.

- 3478503

Quality part, easy install.

- 3478503

AS described fast shipping will buy from here again 10/10 will recommend.

I need to replace the back light inside my 2001 ford van. Making a camper out of it. I looked for weeks trying to find the OE bulb holder, never found one. I needed something the right size with a turn on/off. This is perfect for what I wanted. The OE was not a turn on/off and that is what I wanted. But let me say this etrailer, had what I wanted, good price and I received it early. Good service means a lot to me and etrailer give great service. I will be ordering this product again
