Video Transcript for Camco RV Winter Readiness Kit Review

Today we're going to be showing you how to winterize your RV using the Camco RV Winter Readiness Kit part number CAM36190. The kit's going to come with everything you see here. We have an antifreeze hand pump, three bottles of antifreeze, a dehumidifier, an odor eliminator, a door stay for our refrigerator, a blowout plug, and our bucket. It's everything you need to safely store your RV for the winter. The first step is to disconnect from your outside water source. We're all set here.

Next, we'll need to bypass our water heater. If you don't have a bypass installed, you can pick one up with part number CAM35983. Our bypass is located here. I'm just going to engage it and we're all set. Next we need to drain as much water from our pipes as possible. I've gone ahead and drained my fresh water tank.

Ours was just a plug right here that we pull and then it comes out. This may take a while depending on how much water you have. Then it's recommended that we open up our water taps and flush our toilet. After we drained as much water as we can, we can return to our fresh water connection, open that up, and then we're going to take our blowout plug. I'm just going to screw it on right here.

It doesn't have to be extremely tight. Just get it nice and snug. Then we can remove our rubber cap and we're going to apply air pressure. This is going to flush out any remaining water from your system. Now we can remove our blowout plug and close up all the faucets. This is where our bucket comes in handy.

We'll need to dilute the antifreeze before we add it to our system. You can refer to the protection chart on the back of your bottle for your protection level. We're going to be going with negative 50. That's going to be two parts water and one part antifreeze. Now we can assemble our pump. We'll take our clear hose, we'll attach it to our fresh water inlet, get it nice and snug, then we're going to attach it to our pump, to this side here. Once we got that attached, we'll take our next hose, and put it on bottom. Before you start pumping the antifreeze, you need to make sure that your petcock valve is closed. That'll force the antifreeze through your system and not out the bottom of your RV. We're going to start with the kitchen faucet first. I've gone ahead and opened the hot side only. We'll stick it down in the bucket and then start pumping. We're going to pump it until we see antifreeze coming out of the kitchen faucet. If it leaks a little bit, that's okay. It's not harming anything. We'll repeat the same process alternating hot and cold for all of our remaining faucets. Be sure to close the previous faucet. We've got some antifreeze left over. That's okay because we need to pour some into our sinks and shower drain, about two pints in each. If you have an ice maker, a washing machine, or an external shower, those will also need to be winterized. You can find information on how to do that in your appliance manuals. Now we got just a few more steps. We can open up our drain plug and our water heater and leave it open. You can see here, ours is already done. We're all set. We can leave all the antifreeze until spring. We can take our refrigerator door stay. We'll open our refrigerator. You want to be sure and moisten the suction cups. We'll place one end on the inside and the other near the door. That's going to keep it propped open and prevent your refrigerator from smelling musty or moldy. Now with can take our odor eliminator bag and hang it anywhere we like. This is going to help absorb any smells that your RV may accumulate while in storage. Lastly, we can take our dehumidifier. We can take off the top, remove the foil cover. You want to be sure not to remove the white cloth cover here. We'll place the top back on and set it where we like. This is going to help absorb moisture that our RV may collect. That's going to complete the winterization of our RV with the Camco RV Winter Readiness Kit part number CAM36190.

This kit came to the house much faster than anticipated. It comes conveniently packaged in a tub that can be re-used for washing, waxing, etc... I was worried that it would be too complicated for me to perform the winterizing myself, but I was delighted to find that a very simple easy to follow guide accompanied the kit. It was generic enough to accommodate any RV system and ultimately helped me to winterize my camper quickly and easily. I'm so happy that I can now do this myself. Instead of spending $100-$200 a year to get this done, I can now do it myself with confidence and ease for about $xx (cost of anti-freeze). One of the best purchases I've ever made! 310777

The Camco. Winterizer kit looks good ,delivered yesterday, all pieces are there and in good condition. Still summer here but winter is coming. I own two trailers and I will use this kit on both trailers. I will need more antifreeze to finish the job. I have done this in the past and it’s not hard to do. Any camper can do it. 553562

Just got winterizing kit, ran into a problem, I had a hell of a time getting the lid off. I have taken lids off other pails without a problem. 443724

I'm an older 76 yr. senior woman independent and trying to learn to fix things living alone. I have to have mechanical things dumbed down. The RV camper kit to drain and thaw my camper was just right. We recently had a cold snap that surprised me, and I was worried I had ruined the water system, but instructions and the right equipment to service it solved everything. 233680

  • Recommended Storage Cover for 2018 Keystone Bullet Ultra Lite Travel Trailer
  • The Adco RV Cover w/ Tyre Gards for Travel Trailers - All-Climate + Wind - Tyvek - 26' Long # 290-34843 will fit travel trailers between 24 feet 1 inch and 26 feet long. The cover doesn't vary by different models like you listed only changes by length of trailer. This trailer cover has overall dimensions of 315" long x 100" wide x 96" tall. It has the Tyvek top panel and has integrated front and rear cinching system to remove slack. This is a great product yet not the correct fit for...

  • Recommended Best 5th Wheel Storage Cover for 2018 Grand Design Reflection 28BH
  • Based on my research the 2018 Grand Design Reflection 28BH is 33 feet 10 inches long. That will make the Adco # 290-34856 for up to 37 foot trailers you mentioned slightly long and not the best fit. I instead recommend the Adco RV Cover w/ Tyre Gards for 5th Wheel Trailer - All-Climate + Wind - Tyvek - 34' Long # 290-34855 will be the best fit for your trailer. It will have the same benefits but will be a better fit so it will work well and not require securing extra fabric to reduce...

  • Recommended Trailer Cover for a 2018 Starcraft Launch 27' Trailer
  • I tried looking up the length of your 2018 Starcraft Launch but I couldn't find anything. Typically the manufacturers do include the tongue when referring to length but you can verify this by measure the cabin portion of your trailer. For an all-around great cover I recommend the Adco RV Cover # 290-34843 if your trailer is 24' - 26' or part # 290-34844 if it is 26' - 28-1/2' long. These are the same exact cover just in different lengths. The reason that I really like this cover is...

  • For your 2018 Dutchmen Voltage V3005 toy hauler, I looked up the specs and the overall dimensions are 35 feet long 8.5 feet wide and 13.08 feet tall. Based on these dimensions, I recommend the Adco RV Cover w/ Tyre Gards for 5th Wheel Trailer - All-Climate + Wind - Tyvek - 37' Long # 290-34856 which is a confirmed fit for 34 to 37 feet long toy haulers. It has a front and rear cinching system to remove slack and reduce billowing. It is designed for wind, high sun exposure, high moisture,...

  • Can the Camco RV Water Pump Winterization Kit be Used on Hot and Cold RV Water Lines
  • The Camco RV water pump winterization kit # CAM36543 is not hot or cold specific. It is designed to be installed at the water pump that feeds water into the whole RV so that should also include the line that goes to the water heater. Basically it will allow you to pump antifreeze into the RV pipes using the RV water pump to prevent pipes from freezing. However, if you pump antifreeze through the system be sure to flush the system before using any of the water in the RV once the weather...

  • Storage Cover Recommendation for 2018 Lance 1985 Travel Trailer
  • Great choice! It's the time of year to start thinking about storing all of our summer toys and pulling out the winter ones. You definitely want to protect your investment by purchasing a storage cover. Sun, rain, snow and even wind can take a toll on your travel trailer during storage months. The 2018 Lance 1985 Travel Trailer has an overall length of 23' 3", so you'll need a cover in the 22-24' range. The Adco Cover with the Tyvek top panel, which you selected, # 290-34842 is our most...

  • Recommended Storage Cover for a 2018 Forest River Rockwood Ultra Lite 2604W in Michigan
  • Since your 2018 Forest River Rockwood Ultra Lite 2604W is 29' 9" long I recommend going with the Adco AquaShed # 290-52274. This cover is designed to fit trailers that are 28' - 30' long and was built for moderate climates with high moisture so it is perfect for the heavy winter you get in Michigan. The AquaShed also has vents and polypropylene sides which do a great job at making it breathable so mold and mildew have a much harder time forming. If you don't already have equipment to...

  • Will a 28' - 30' Travel Trailer Cover Fit a 28' 5th Wheel Trailer
  • I suppose you could get a travel trailer cover for 28' - 30' trailers like the Adco # 290-34874 to fit your 28' 5th wheel trailer as long as the measurement you are taking is from the very back of the 5th wheel to the nose (see attached picture). You would have a lot of extra material hanging in front of your 5th wheel trailer and the rest of the cover probably wouldn't sit low enough to completely cover the side of your 5th wheel as 5th wheel trailers are taller than travel trailers....

  • Can Water be Completely Removed from Holding Tank to Avoid Using Anti-Freeze
  • You might be able to get some sort of wet/dry vacuum attachment in there to suck up some of the remaining water in the tank. But it is unlikely you will be able to get it all. The only way to ensure that the water still inside doesn't freeze is to use anti-freeze. I recommend a kit, # CAM36190, which comes with everything you will need.

  • Best Antifreeze Recommendations for RV Winterization
  • For an RV application you'll want to go with RV antifreeze for the freshwater tanks since that's not toxic. The gray and black water tanks though can have automotive style of antifreeze used since that's not a system you'd ever be drinking out of unlike the freshwater tank. We have the Camco RV Winter Readiness Kit # CAM36190 that comes with everything you'd need to winterize your RV as well.

  • Yes. The Adco RV Cover # 290-34845 will have side panels that are designed to protect your travel trailer from UV rays, and it comes with Tyre Gard (Tire Covers) that are also designed to protect the sidewall of your tires from UV rays. This will work well for you in the Florida Sun. You may also want to consider using the Camco RV Winter Readiness Kit # CAM36190 if you are storing your trailer for the winter months. • Can a Trailer Storage Cover be Installed While the Trailer is Wet
  • Technically you can install a cover, like the Adco # 290-34846 you referenced, while your trailer is wet but that would make it much easier for mold to start growing. I would try to dry it off somehow (lots of towels or a leaf blower were suggested to me) before installing the cover so that it can be the most effective. If you haven't already prepped the inside of your trailer for winter we have the kit # CAM36190 that comes with everything needed to do so.
