Video Transcript for Therma Heat RV Fresh Water 277-000164 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the holding tank heater pad for RVs. Now this is a full contact, peel and stick, carbon fiber heater pad for 29 to 40 gallon RV tanks. It's designed to keep the water in your freshwater tank from freezing, and it is capable of even thawing out a frozen system. Installation instructions are located directly on the pad, right here on the sticker. And it is thermostat-controlled with a built-in thermostat. So it has auto-on feature at 45 degrees Fahrenheit and auto-off at 67 degrees Fahrenheit. The thermostat in the pad reads the tank's surface temperature and not the outside temperature to determine when to turn off and when to turn on.

It has been cold-room tested down to negative 32 degrees Fahrenheit. It runs off of DC power, while the RV is in transit, and through a converter when connected to a power source. It has a two-wire design, so your white wire is ground, red wire is power. These are 16-gauge wires. Now, if two or more pads are used, they must be connected and parallel. I also want to let you know that a switch can be used to turn off and on the heating pad, as long as the switch can handle the amperage load of the heating pads.

Switches are sold separately and available at etro.com 00:01:18.When it comes to the size of the pad, we're only looking at a thickness of three millimeters going this direction. The pad measures about 12 inches, and then going this direction, it measures about 18 inches long. When it comes to the voltage, we're looking at 13.5 volts, electric currant is 4.8 amps, and your lead wires have a length of around 36 inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the holding tank heater pad for RVs.

Original order was received defective. Customer service and technical support was very responsive. It appears etrailer's customer service is handled in house and not farmed out to another country. A new item was delivered immediately. I was pleasantly surprised there are still companies that value customer service. 456164

I liked the price of the product. It was very easy to attach to the water tank. I am hooking it up now. I plan on buying more later on to use on other areas. I use my trailer during late year hunts and want running water. The low wattage/ amp use is low. 426223

Received two holding tank heating pads today for my rv. I installed without problem in just a few minutes, motorhome was pre-wired. Less than $80 dollars invested. Bid for the work from a local rv dealer was over $1000! Thanks, etrailer.com 443554

Ask the Experts about this Therma Heat RV Fresh Water
Do you have a question about this RV Fresh Water?

  • Keeping Fresh Water Tank and Lines from Freezing in a Lived-In 5th Wheel Trailer
  • If you live in the trailer all year then presumably you will be running heaters when it is cold. Provided the hot water heater and plumbing is internal to the trailer then the ambient temperature would prevent it from freezing. But I assume that the water heater is fed from the fresh water tank which is more external to the trailer. To keep it from freezing you could use a tank heater such as # 277-000164. Or we have heating element # W01-1573 designed for freeze protection on holding...

  • Installing Therma Heat Holding Tank Heater Pads with Switch
  • The Therma Heat Holding Tank Heater Pad # 277-000164 referenced in your question is a very nice, full contact peel and stick heater pad designed for RV tanks between 29 and 40 gallons. These are designed for fresh water tanks and typically will not be needed for grey water. You can then use a switch like the Pollak Universal-Design Rocker Switch # PK34310, which is indeed rated for 20 amps.

  • Therma Heat RV Tank Heater Pads Installation
  • To install the Tank Heater Pads part # 277-000164, part # 277-000161, and part # 277-000162 together you will simply need to run them in parallel. This means that you will daisy-chain all of the positive (Red) wires together and connect them to the battery on your RV, and you will daisy-chain all of the negative (White) wires together and ground them. You can use the Pollak Universal-Design Rocker Switch # PK34310 between the battery and the pads as a way to turn them on and off. Since...

  • Heating Pad for Freshwater Tank on RV
  • For as big as your tanks are I would recommend going with the part # 277-000163 which measures 25 inches by 7-1/2 inches for each of your tanks. These are designed for the freshwater tanks and would not be needed on grey water.

  • Will 18-1/4" x 12" Holding Tank Heater Pad # 277-000164 Work on 30 Gallon Freshwater Tank
  • The 18-1/4" x 12" Holding Tank Heater Pad # 277-000164 that you referenced would work well for your 30 gallon fresh water tank as it is designed for 29-40 gallon tanks. The heater is powerful enough that it would not need to make contact with the entire bottom of the tank. It would generate enough heat with it's pad size of 18-1/4 inch by 12 inch size to keep it warm. The pad runs off of DC power (what a vehicle runs off of) so you would need to either use a converter to adapt AC...

  • Can 4 Holding Tank Water Heaters # 277-000164 Be Wired Together?
  • You cannot wire the Therma Heat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad w/ Thermostat - 18" Long x 12" Wide # 277-000164 in series but you can wire them together in parallel to add 4 of them to your camper. This means that you will daisy-chain all of the positive (Red) wires together and connect them to the battery on your RV, and you will daisy-chain all of the negative (White) wires together and ground them. You can add wire length as needed # 16-1-1. You can use the Pollak Universal-Design...

  • Could Switch be Used to Power Two of the 18-1/4" x 12" Holding Tank Heater Pad 277-000164
  • As long as the switch can handle the amperage load of two of the heating pads part # 277-000164 yes it would be fine. This heating pad draws 4.8 amps. So the switch would need to be able to accommodate 9.6 amps. The part # D16740 would easily handle the amperage.

  • Can Therma Heat Holding Tank Heater Pads be Used on Gray and Black Water Tanks
  • The Therma Heat 18-1/4 Inch x 12 Inch Holding Tank Heater Pad # 277-000164 referenced in your question is typically used on freshwater tanks but can certainly be used on black and gray tanks as well. There is nothing in the product's design itself that would prevent you from doing this. The only potential issue with using a heating pad on a black water tank is that adding a heat source might create excess gases, which may lead to issues down the line. The heating pads will run off of...

  • Can RV Water Tank Heating Pads be Used on Black and Gray Water Tanks

  • Can ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad 277-000164 Keep Up with Michigan Winter Temps
  • The ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad # 277-000164 has the heating power to actually thaw out a frozen tank and its ambient temperature operating range extends down to -32 degrees Fahrenheit so it will be up to the task of protecting your RV holding tanks from freezing during a cold Michigan winter. ThermaHeat does not specifically indicate whether the -32 is on an insulated tank or not. But this would not really matter anyway. Unless you had an identical tank with an identical...

  • Can More than One Heating Pad be Used on a 100 Gallon Fresh Water Tank

There is also another model, # 277-000163, with different dimensions. We also have elbow heater pad # 277-000161 (for 3 inch pipe) and # 277-000162 (for 1-1/2 inch pipe). • Installation of Therma Heat Holding Tank Heater Pad
  • The Holding Tank Heater Pad # 277-000164 does include instructions. They're actually on the label that is stuck to the pad itself. It can be wired to DC power while your traveling and through a converter when you're connected to a power source. This pad is for tanks that are 29 to 40 gallons so it's certainly more than you need. But I don't see how it would be harmful in anyway. It is generally applied to the bottom of the tank.

If you have access to a blow dryer you could lightly heat up the area with it and then keep it warm for several minutes after application and I am sure you'd be fine. There is a bit of irony in having to heat up a heater to properly install it though!

If you are nearby to the RV when the tanks are in a sub-45-degree environment you should be able to feel warmth from the pad if it is cycled on.
