  • Safety for Electric Heating Appliances, UL499
  • Safety for Heating Elements (CSA) C22.2 No. 72-m1984 (R2004)
  • Flammability tests (UL) 746C, 15 and CSA 0.17,9,2
  • Dieletric Voltage Withstand Test (UL) - 1000 volts/1 minute
  • Thermal Aging Test (UL)

Note: This heater pad should be installed on non-conductive surfaces only.

Why ThermaHeat?

When the outside temperature is cold enough, the exposed freshwater holding tank or step on your RV will freeze. For tanks, this stops the flow of water from reaching your sink, shower, or other freshwater source. Furthermore, the frozen water could potentially cause cracks or other irreparable damage to your tank or pipes, which would mean you would have to replace them. And a frozen step can be extremely slippery as you try to enter or exit your RV or camper.

The full-contact ThermaHeat heater pad will prevent this by keeping your holding tank or step warm during freezing temperatures. It has a built-in thermostat that automatically operates the pad. When the temperature of the tank or step drops to 45 degrees F, the pad will turn on. When the temperature rises to 67 degrees F, the pad will turn off. It can also completely thaw out a tank or a step if it's already frozen, assuming that none of the components have been damaged. The heater pad does all the work for you, preventing you from having to go out in the cold and thaw it out by hand with a heat gun or hair dryer, which can melt the side of your tank or step if not used properly.

Installation and Wiring

ThermaHeat Peel-and-Stock Installation

This heater pad has easy, peel-and-stick installation onto the bottom of your tank or step. The flexible carbon fiber material is designed to fit the contours of any surface. The pad is meant for use on fresh water tanks, but can be installed onto gray water or black water tanks. Please note, however, that adding a heat source to a gray water or black water tank may create excess gasses and odors.

ThermaHeat 2-Wire Design

The pad has a white wire for ground, and a red wire for power. This 2-wire design is compatible with DC power while your RV is in transit. It can also run through a converter while connected to a power source when your RV is parked.

Additionally, you are able to install this pad with other ThermaHeat heater pads (sold separately). In order to do this, they must be connected and run parallel. You would daisy-chain the red wires together and connect them to the battery of your RV or camper and then daisy-chain the white wires together and ground them. In order to turn the pads on and off, you will need to install a switch (sold separately) between the battery and the pads.

So far, we haven't had much of a chance to use the tank heater but the one time we used it, we had no problems. This winter, we will have ample opportunity to test it out and I will add a better review. 699899

Install 3 holding take heaters, 1 fresh water tank heater and 5 elbow/ pluming heaters on my trailer. All of the heaters running at the same time draws less than 300 watts so I can now leave then on when towing without having to run my propane heater in the trailer. I added R30 insulation to my underbelly and took a trip to Angel Fire NM where one night it got down to -24 degrees F. None of my tanks froze. I had one temperature probes directly on my black water tank and it was 53 degrees with the -24 outside. Every day was below freezing with temps in the lower teens each night. I believe these are rated at -11 but it is a good idea to have an enclosed underbelly to keep the rest of your pluming warm. 597731

Well, ordering had a hiccup, will not ship to P.O. Box. Figured a solution so away it came. Did hot shipping on Friday got it on Tuesday ?? Product was exactly as described but after comparing to tanks, they really need to be longer in my opinion to cover more surface area. Had a guy install directly to a 20 amp breaker which appeared to be a simple wiring task which I’m not up to doing but was fairly quickly accomplished by tech. Pads heated up immediately but the low amps makes it a slow process in heating. 3 tanks were partially frozen but as of today, Sunday the 17th I was able to discharge all tanks sufficiently enough to go a few days. I’m in bowman Nd with conditions currently-17. I 100% recommend these heating pads. Just don’t expect a complete warming or thawing to occur in under 48 hrs under my conditions. I’ll provide pictures of after install at a later date , it’s cold and windy and I’m inside for the day 605888

  • Does ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad Need to be Connected Directly to 12V Battery
The ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad # 277-000164 that you referenced needs to be wired to 12V power source for operation. This doesn't necessarily have to be a direct battery connection, but just keep in mind the pad will only work when the particular power source you choose is actually on. You can even use something like the Hopkins Wiring Extension # HM47965 to provide an easy connection you can plug/unplug in a pinch. If you mainly run off AC power it can still be used but...

  • How to Wire the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad To an On/Off Switch
There are two wires coming from the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad part # 277-000164. There is a red wire for the 12 volt power and a white wire for the ground. This heating pad draw's 4.8 amps of power. Therefore, if you will be attaching three of these to a single switch then the switch will need to be rated for 14.1 amps (4.8 x 3). For a switch, I recommend using the Universal-Design Rocker Switch part # PK34360 which is rated at 20 amps and will be sufficient for three of...

There is also another model, # 277-000163, with different dimensions. We also have elbow heater pad # 277-000161 (for 3 inch pipe) and # 277-000162 (for 1-1/2 inch pipe). And we have several self-regulating heating elements: # W01-1572 (15 feet), # W01-1573 (25 feet), and # W01-1574 (50 feet). These were designed for freeze protection for...

  • Is 13 Inch Elbow Heater Pad 277-000161 Big Enough for a 10 Gallon Tank
Since a 10 gallon tank is not very large the 13 inch elbow heater pad # 277-000161 could be sufficient. Although if the tanks are all right next to each other you might be able to use a total of 2 of the 25 inch by 7-1/4 inch heaters # 277-000163. Two of the 25 inch models will draw about 11.6 amps at 13.5 volts compared to 2-1/2 amps from 4 of # 277-000161. In short the 25 inch models are larger and draw more power and thus should also provide more heat when properly installed.

I have contacted Lasalle Bristol about this and the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank or Step Heater Pad part # 277-000164 has a built in thermostat that turns the heater off at 67 degrees F. I do not recommend insulating the pad because it could cause it to overheat and not operate as it should. It is not necessary to tape the edges with waterproof tape because the back of the pad has adhesive on it that sticks really well according to our customers as long as you clean the area with an alcohol...

I may have some options for you but the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank or Step Heater Pad w/ Thermostat - 18-1/4" Long x 12" Wide part # 277-000164 is made for fresh water tanks. The thermostat of the heating pad turns the pad off at 67 degrees but since the pad is smaller I don't recommend using it on the propane tank because it is such a centralized amount of heat in one spot on the tank that is could cause pressure build up which leads to blowing a valve. Propane does not freeze until...

The ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad # 277-000164 has the heating power to actually thaw out a frozen tank and its ambient temperature operating range extends down to -32 degrees Fahrenheit so it will be up to the task of protecting your RV holding tanks from freezing during a cold Michigan winter. Since this item also has a thermostat the particular setting you choose will affect length of operation. This item will draw about 5 amps of power. The Therma Heat heating pad # 277-000164 is thermostat-controlled, automatically turning on at 45 degrees Fahrenheit and turning off at 67 degrees Fahrenheit.
