  • Safety for Heating Elements (CSA) C22.2 No. 72-m1984 (R2004)
  • Flammability tests (UL) 746C, 15 and CSA 0.17,9,2

Note: This heater pad should be installed on non-conductive surfaces only.

Why ThermaHeat?

When the outside temperature is cold enough, the gray water or black water dump valve pipe or elbow on your RV will freeze. This stops you from being able to dump your gray water or black water tank. Furthermore, the frozen water could potentially cause cracks or other irreparable damage, which would mean you would have to replace the pipe.

The full-contact ThermaHeat heater pad will prevent this by keeping your pipe warm during freezing temperatures. It can also completely thaw out a pipe if it's already frozen, assuming that it hasn't been damaged. The heater pad does all the work for you, preventing you from having to go out in the cold and thaw it out by hand with a heat gun or hair dryer, which can melt the side of your pipe if not used properly.

Installation and Wiring

ThermaHeat Peel-and-Stock Installation

This heater pad has easy, peel-and-stick installation. The flexible carbon fiber material is designed to fit the contours of any valve pipe or elbow surface. The pad is meant for use on black water and gray water pipes, but can be installed onto freshwater pipes as well.

ThermaHeat 2-Wire Design

The pad has a white wire for ground, and a red wire for power. This 2-wire design is compatible with DC power while your RV is in transit. It can also run through a converter while connected to a power source when your RV is parked. The pad wires into a wall switch on your RV, letting you turn it on and off as needed.

Additionally, you are able to install this pad with other ThermaHeat heater pads (sold separately). In order to do this, they must be connected and run parallel. You would daisy-chain the red wires together and connect them to the battery of your RV or camper and then daisy-chain the white wires together and ground them. In order to turn the pads on and off, you will need to install a switch (sold separately) between the battery and the pads.

Video Transcript for LaSalle Bristol RV Fresh Water - Heating Elements and Pads - 277-000162 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Therma Heat elbow heater pad for RVs. This is a full contact peel and stick elbow heater pad that's going to provide heat to your pipes to keep them from freezing when temperatures drop. This has been cold room tested down to negative 32 degrees Fahrenheit. It's going to run off of DC power while the RV is in transit and through a converter when connected to a power source. We're going to take a measurement here of the actual pad size starting with the length. That's going to measure 8". The width is 3" wide.

The thickness is going to be 3mm. When it comes to the voltage, we're looking at 13.5 volts with an electric current of 0.3 amps. You've got the lead wires on this side. Those are going to measure about 18" long. It's a 2 wire design and the unit's going to use 18 gauge wires.

This has been ETL tested and approved and right here on the front of the pad are going to be the installation instructions. That's going to do it for today's look at the Therma Heat elbow heater pad for RVs.

Install 3 holding take heaters, 1 fresh water tank heater and 5 elbow/ pluming heaters on my trailer. All of the heaters running at the same time draws less than 300 watts so I can now leave then on when towing without having to run my propane heater in the trailer. I added R30 insulation to my underbelly and took a trip to Angel Fire NM where one night it got down to -24 degrees F. None of my tanks froze. I had one temperature probes directly on my black water tank and it was 53 degrees with the -24 outside. Every day was below freezing with temps in the lower teens each night. I believe these are rated at -11 but it is a good idea to have an enclosed underbelly to keep the rest of your pluming warm. 597733

Do you have a question about this RV Fresh Water?

  • Can More than One Heating Pad be Used on a 100 Gallon Fresh Water Tank
  • You could use more than one holding tank heater if you wanted to and there are different options available. Pad heater # 277-000164 is one option. There is also another model, # 277-000163, with different dimensions. We also have elbow heater pad # 277-000161 (for 3 inch pipe) and # 277-000162 (for 1-1/2 inch pipe). And we have several self-regulating heating elements: # W01-1572 (15 feet), # W01-1573 (25 feet), and # W01-1574 (50 feet). These were designed for freeze protection for...

  • Therma Heat RV Tank Heater Pads Installation
  • To install the Tank Heater Pads part # 277-000164, part # 277-000161, and part # 277-000162 together you will simply need to run them in parallel. This means that you will daisy-chain all of the positive (Red) wires together and connect them to the battery on your RV, and you will daisy-chain all of the negative (White) wires together and ground them. You can use the Pollak Universal-Design Rocker Switch # PK34310 between the battery and the pads as a way to turn them on and off. Since...

  • Sorry to hear that your heating pads part # 277-000164, part # 277-000162, and part # 277-000161 are not working properly. I spoke with my contact at Therma Heat who said that there are a few things that you can do to troubleshoot them. You will want to check the following: Make sure they are getting appropriate voltage supply (13.5V DC) Make sure the polarity of the connections is correct. Make sure the total amp draw on the circuit is appropriate for its’ capacity. Make sure the...

  • Is there a Heating Pad for Small Holding Tanks on a Pop-Up Camper
  • We do have some smaller heater pads such as # 277-000161 at 13 x 3 inches or # 277-000162 at 8 x 3 inches. The larger one draws 0.62 amps at 13.5 volts. The smaller one draws 0.3 amps at 13.5 volts.

  • Can Multiple Therma Heat Heater Pads be Wired to Single Switch
  • Multiple heating pads like the Therma Heat 25 Inch x 7-1/4 Inch # 277-000163 and the Elbow Heater Pad # 277-000162 that you have can be wired to a single switch. If you are not getting enough voltage with your current setup, it's possible that the switch you are using cannot handle the total amperage of the heating pads. The larger pads draw 5.8 amps (each) and the elbow pad draws 0.3 amps. A higher rated switch like the Pollak # PK34310 might be a better option if your existing switch...

  • What Size Heat Pad is Needed for a 40 Gallon Tank on a Trailer
  • Although we do have a heating pad that would fit in the desired areas on your tanks, the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad part # 277-000162 which measures 8" long x 3" wide. It would not be sufficient for the tanks capacity. The only heating pad we offer that is sufficient for the tanks capacity is the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad part # 277-000164 which measures 18-1/4" long x 12" wide. This heat pad is for 29- to 40 gallon tanks. The heating pad will need to be placed...

  • Heating Pads for Holding Tank and Pump on Class B RV
  • Since your tank is 26 gallons having only 3/4 of heating pad # 277-000164 on the tank would only cover 21-3/4 gallons. What I purpose instead is to use the whole pad on the tank and use a separate pad, just as # 277-000161 or # 277-000162 for the pump. That way you will get the most out of each heating pad. The paper does have to be removed otherwise something could occur that could potentially burn the paper and that could lead to other issues. But if you go with my plan of using 2...

  • Can the Kats Heaters Handi-Heat Magnetic Heater be Used to Heat Water Pipes on an RV
  • The Kat's Heaters Handi-Heat Magnetic Heater # KH1155 was specifically designed to heat up various fluids in the engine of your vehicle. Since it has a heat output of 300 F - 400 F I recommend going another route. A better way to go is with the Therma Heat elbow pads. We have part # 277-000162 which is 8" x 3" and part # 277-000161 which is 13" x 3". Either one of these will do a great job keeping your water pipes warm as long as they do not exceed 3" in diameter. • RV Holding Tank Heater Pad for 40 Gallon Tank
  • An elbow heater pad is not designed to be used with tanks it fits on pipes. For example the 13" x 3" Elbow Heater Pad for RVs # 277-000161 is designed to be used on 3 inch pipes while the 8" x 3" Elbow Heater Pad for RVs # 277-000162 is designed for use with 1-1/2 inch pipe. For your 40-gallon RV holding tank I highly recommend the ThermaHeat RV Holding Tank Heater Pad w/ Thermostat # 277-000164.
