Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the JR Products locking camper door latch. This is going to be just a easy to use, easy to install camper door latch. We'll have that screen door style latch on the one side and then a push button cylinder on the other side to depress that latch there. This can be locked from the outside using one of the keys.
Just place that in there. And then if you watch this little tab here, you turn it, it's going to flip that little tab over into the locked position. And now our latch is locked on both sides. If you want to open that back up from the inside, you just flip that latch over and everything is unlocked again. Although actually you need to undo ...
it looks like you still need to undo the lock from the outside even if it's undone on the inside.Now that we've done that . there. Now our push button can unlock. It comes with the hardware, the two screws to get this installed along with that little internal mechanism. This center rectangular pin is what operates that lock, and you can cut that to length or it even has little indentions in there.
It might be kind of hard for you guys to see. But at the very end, there are a couple little indentions in that metal so you could actually snap it off maybe with a pair of pliers or something like that. Or you can just saw it off to length, so it can fit with your different thicknesses of your doors.Comes with instructions so that you know how to get this installed. You should get something that looks like this, and that will help you get that drilled out. They suggest drilling out a 5/16 inch hole for the hardware and then a 7/8 inch hole for the center of that lock portion, just about 3/4 inch deep.
You don't want that to go all the way through the door. You just want it to be just enough that it can allow for this portion to go into the door. That's going to be on the outside of it.We'll need three holes for your hardware to go through. And then that center pin, so you need these three to be 5/16 and then maybe waddle out that center one, so the spindle can spin freely. This does come in three different colors, so we'll have white, silver, and black. Comes with the two keys and our striker along with the other hardware. It's made of a sturdy steel and a painted finish. And that's pretty much going to do it for our look at the JR Products locking camper door latch in white.

Overall - Great! It perfectly replaced an old and broken one on my camper. The ONLY downside to it - the lock and key is too simple! Quite literally, this is replacing a lock/ key/ door latch from 2004, but the keys on both the old unit and this one at exactly the same! Only 1 notch in the key! I'm not planning on needing that much security, but the fact that the key is so basic and exactly the same as one almost 20 years old now... I just wish the lock/ key I got on this new one was a little more "secure/ intricate" with a few more notches. Aside from that one downside, I had the latch replaced in 5 minutes? Remove the old one, trim the push bar down to the correct length, crew it together - done!
