Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a quick look at the JR Products Bi-Directional Screen Door Latch. This is going to come with not only your latch that can go on a left or right-handed door, but we'll also get the striker and the keeper as well. So as your door closes, it's going to hold against that striker. And that's going to go on the inside frame of your door so that it keeps the door shut.
And then this piece just keeps that screen door against your outside door for your RV so that it's not swinging out kind of willy-nilly, it has a place to kind of land against that outside door. So that keeps that in place there, and that keeps it in place against the RV whenever you're using it as a screen door. It also comes with the hardware to get this mounted up. So we're going to get eight screws total. And we'll need one, two, three, four, five, six of those to actually get this installed.
So you might have a couple extra once you're finished with your install.As far as the size of this, between our mounting holes, it's about a three-inch distance, center on center, between those. So if you are replacing a latch that had that configuration or that size for the mounting holes, this is going to fit there. The total length of that latch is going to be about three and eleven-sixteenths, inaudible 00:01:32 to count upside down there to figure out that length. And then from the edge of the latch to the end of the handle, it's about four and five-sixteenths. The handle just by itself is about just shy of three inches long, maybe two and fifteen-sixteenths, if we want to get really technical.
The depth of this is about three-eighths of an inch thick.Again, it can be used in either direction. It works just fine that way. And you just push down on that to get it in place. Whenever it comes against this little keeper, it goes in that little groove up at the top to hold that in place. Same thing on the other side.As far as our striker, it's about two and three-sixteenths inches long, about an inch and an eighth wide.
Thickest portion is about a quarter of an inch thick, which would be this kind of peaked portion there. This is going to be about an inch and an eighth by an inch. And about seven-eighths of an inch for that keeper.It does have a lifetime warranty, so JR Products stands behind it with that lifetime warranty on each of those pieces. And that's pretty much going to do it for our look at the JR Products Bi-Directional Screen Door Latch. Easy replacement for this 72 year old screwdriver jockey. Only had to shave down the striker plate a little with a knife so door frame would clear it. Just ordered another to replace the back door latch.
I was concerned that this latch would not work on my horse trailer without significant modification. But all it took was two additional small holes and now it actually works better than the original!
Latch fit well. A very good replacement for old latch. I only wish they made one out of metal.
