When replacing gas shock on your vehicle or RV, you will want to make sure you are buying a replacement with the exact same extended length, compressed length, and pounds of force. This information is usually printed on the shock. Lengths are measured from the center of the ball joint used for mounting. If you are planning on installing gas shocks on something for the first time, identifying the shock you need requires fairly complex initial calculations, so be sure to do your research to avoid purchasing a shock that will not fit your application.

Michael: Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at this replacement gas shock. This is going to replace a worn out or damaged shock on your RV's entry door or a storage door. It is going to have 50 pounds of compression force, so it's going to do a good job of making sure that that door doesn't slam closed on you, potentially causing damage or injuries. It will also give you a little bit of assistance as you're lifting up on that storage door or help to open up the entry door, so you don't have to worry about gusts of wind closing it or anything like that. So if you are needing a replacement, this is going to be a really nice quality one.
That 50 pounds of force is going to prevent me from demonstrating compacting right now, but we'll give you a few measurements. When we have it extended like this from the center of one ball socket to the center of the other ball socket, we're looking at right about 20 inches long. When we have it compressed, it's going to be a little bit shy of 11 and a half inches. It's stated at 11.41 inches. So keep that in mind, make sure that's going to work for your setup. You can see these ball sockets are nice and straight, there's no angle to them, both sides.
They are 10 millimeter sockets, so they'll fit onto your 10 millimeter ball studs. So it should be very easy to get this installed. It does have a nice black knight trade finish to it, so it's going to look nice and do a good job for you making sure that those doors open, stay open and give you a little bit of resistance as you close them.So that's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..
