When replacing gas shock on your vehicle or RV, you will want to make sure you are buying a replacement with the exact same extended length, compressed length, and pounds of force. This information is usually printed on the shock. Lengths are measured from the center of the ball joint used for mounting. If you are planning on installing gas shocks on something for the first time, identifying the shock you need requires fairly complex initial calculations, so be sure to do your research to avoid purchasing a shock that will not fit your application.

Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a quick look at this replacement gas shock. This is a black nitride shock, that's going to replace a worn out or damaged shock on your RV's entry door or storage door. At it's extended length here, it is right at 17 inches, and that is measuring from the center of one socket to the center of the other. This will give you a better idea there.
Our measurement. So right at 17 inches. And when we compress this, it's going to compress down to 10 inches, but it does take 28 pounds of force to compress that. So it is going to do a great job of helping to ensure that your doors aren't going to slam shut, potentially catch fingers or gear in there, cause damage or injury, but it's also going to help the door open up when you're ready to so, it will provide 28 pounds of force to open that up and prevent it from closing. The connection points here, these are 10 millimeter ball sockets that will attach to your 10 millimeter ball stud.
Just pop in place there to very easily get this connected and ready to be used on your RV's entry door or storage door. So if you are looking for a replacement for your RV, make sure that this is going to have the same measurements as your original. And that compression force should do a great job of helping to again, make sure that that door doesn't slam closed. And to give you a little assistance as you're opening that back up. So that's going to complete our look for today.
Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..
