When replacing gas shock on your vehicle or RV, you will want to make sure you are buying a replacement with the exact same extended length, compressed length, and pounds of force. This information is usually printed on the shock. Lengths are measured from the center of the ball joint used for mounting. If you are planning on installing gas shocks on something for the first time, identifying the shock you need requires fairly complex initial calculations, so be sure to do your research to avoid purchasing a shock that will not fit your application.

Video Transcript for Review of JR Products RV Door Parts - Gas Shock 90 lbs - 372-2125-90

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and we're going to be taking a quick look at the gas shock. This is going to be a 90 pound resistant shock, so this helps to open a hatch or door, and hold it open while you do any kind of work or maintenance. So you can use this for a compartment door on your RV, on your boat, or really anywhere that you need that gas shock or that gas strut to hold things open.So let's take a closer look and make sure that this is the right fit for you. So you can see it's going to be just this nice compact design. It is going to be a gas shock, so it has that compressed air to lift up on that door, hold it in place. As far as the length, when extended as it is now, it's about 15" long, that's going from the center of the attachment point to the same spot on the opposite side, so that'll be these two spots here.

And this is going to fit onto a ball joint and should allow you to get that connected. So this little clip here fits right inside there. Whenever it's compressed, it goes down to about 9 1/2", a little bit more, about 9.6". Again, it can hold up to 90 pounds, so definitely going to be a very forceful or very heavy duty gas shock for your application. That's pretty much all there is to it for our look at the gas shock. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right one for you.

We do have a lot of configurations of different gas shocks, so if you need something a little bit different, we should have you covered. Thanks for watching.

Everything I have purchased from e trailer is very good quality. After a year of use this gas shock works like new.

by:

When I purchased this it was the correct size but it was not clear what the pounds were. On this invite to review it is clearly 90 lb . ways too much for my door I have to send it back

The selection process was easy to follow. I needed gas struts with a greater lift capacity for our under bed storage due to the addition of a memory foam mattress. I was able to select a strut pair with the proper length and extension from the website. The struts were received quickly and were exactly what I needed. The bed now raises gently and remains elevated.

by:

This strut did not fit precisely due to the thickness of the end connectors. They are thicker than the original strut and since the strut has to fit between the bottom of the door and the threshold in the closed position it would not allow the door to close. I found that by exchanging the end connectors with the original strut I was able to install the strut and close the door. The only problem with this solution is that the new strut with the old connectors is slightly longer than the old strut/connector assembly and now allows the door to open slightly farther than before. Our awning arm just barely clears the door when opening and closing so will have to be very careful from now on when extending and retracting the awning. Our motorhome is a Sunseeker 3010ds model in case this is helpful to others ordering this product.

by:

Item was exactly as advertised, easy installation, fits perfectly on our RV door. Our previous gas shock was worn out & would not hold the door open. This product is sturdy & stable. It fixed the issue.

by:

Exactly what I needed for my Kwik Kamp motorcycle trailer! It's nice to share information in our group when we find parts to use for our discontinued campers.

by:

Very fast delivery! I've ordered from e-trailer several times and service has always been great!

by:

The Stabilus shock holding the 22" door of our bumper pull trailer open was weak. Mild wind would push it shut. This shock fit right onto the existing ball joints. A small blade screwdriver pried the "c" clip back, allowing me to slip the socket over the ball, and the clip snapped into place. Maybe 30 seconds and the shock was installed.

The biggest challenge was determining what force I needed in the replacement. The existing shock had the model information scraped away where it rubbed on the door threshold. No where could I find on the etrailer site what force a small door shock should be. I ended up chatting with an RV service tech I know, who looked it up in his parts catalog. Turns out 10 lb force is standard except for large RV doors. I would suggest etrailer.com add this information on their online catalog. Maybe it's there and I couldn’t' find it? "Gas shock force needed for RV doors."

by:

When my package arrived it was beat up and one of the clips on the end of the shock was missing, not what I would give a good report !!

by:

This fit my 05 Bigfoot 9.6 camper door with about 3/8 compression left. This is the shock you want. It has a slow open feature and does not slam the door open possibly risking tearing the mounts off. So no worries about people who just open the door and head out. We used to have to coax the door open. Not you can let go of it. Love this shock!!

by:

These work great for toolbox lid

by:

Price is right and product fit and functioned well for my application on a Leer truck topper rear glass door

by:

Exactly what I needed delivered in a timely manner

by:

Just received and put on today. The gas shocks vey easy to replace. Doors on rv are open and staying open by the shocks. When the other door shock need replacement. I will be buying same product.

by:

Overall, I was satisfied with the process as well as as quality and condition of the door opener. I was fortunate that the opener fit correctly. There was some dissatisfaction that your web site offered little in the way of cross-reference data for a direct replacement with the existing opener on my trailer. Also, considering that the item was in stock, delivery took longer than I had anticipated.

by:

Great customer service and prompt delivery.
I haven't installed them yet but look to be the exact replacement part for the current ones in my camper.

by:

Excellent service. Definitely going to order from them again.

by:

All that I expected. Jaime did a great job helping me make sure that I ordered the proper parts. Thanks

by:

These shocks made my RV cabinet door stay up like new again!

by:

It was just what l needed to hold up bed storage work great

by:

Fast delivery, Thanks

  • Recommended Replacement Gas Strut For An SE160p-90 Gas Strut
From what I could find on the SE160p-90 it's a 16" gas strut with a 90lb pressure rating. Since we don't carry the 90lb in a 16" length the safest option would be to go lower to the 15" # 372-2125-90. You won't be able to get the door open as far but you also won't have to worry about the door pressing too far out and contacting something else. If you have the extra clearance space then you can go with the # 372-2200-90, but I do recommend measuring first to ensure fitment.

  • Recommended Replacement Gas Shocks For SpringLift SL-33-70 on 2002 Fleetwood Pace Arrow
I may have a solution for you, but from what I was able to find in my research, the Springlift SL-33-70 was made by Attwood and has been discontinued. It looks like this spring has a 15" extended length and 9.25" compressed length, with a 70-lbs force capacity. We don't have anything with those exact measurements but you could use the Gas Shock - 90 lb Force - 15" Extended, 9.66" Compressed - Black Nitride # 372-2125-90. Using this strut may require the relocation of the mounting parts...
