This Advent Air AC unit lets you replace an existing, old or broken air conditioner or add a new air conditioner to an area on your RV or camper that doesn't already have one. The AC has a powerful fan and motor that provides a steady stream of air to efficiently cool the inside of your RV on a hot or muggy day. For your convenience, the included air distribution box has a built-in thermostat that lets you set the fan speed and temperature. The included start capacitor will help jumpstart the AC. This beneficial upgrade provides the AC a boost when shore power or generator power isn't enough to start it. And everything you need in order to replace or add an AC unit is included, which makes installation simple and easy.

Air Distribution Box and Thermostat

Advent Air Air Distribution Box

The AC unit includes an air distribution box with a built-in thermostat. The dial on the left controls the 3 cool settings and the 3 fan speed settings, which let you increase or decrease the airflow. If you add an electric heat strip (sold separately) to remove the chill on cold mornings, then the dial also controls the heat setting. The dial on the right allows you to set the temperature. Additionally, there are adjustable registers on the front and back of the box. These can be tilted up, down, or side-to-side for directing the air where needed. The removable air filter prevents dust and dirt from building up on the fan blades.

Start Capacitor

Advent Air Start Capacitor

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

Because your RV is likely already prepped and pre-wired for an AC unit, installation is simple and easy. Most AC units, including this one, are designed to fit an opening that measures 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". Depending on your roof setup, you may need to do minimal alterations. If the opening is larger than 14-3/8" x 14-3/8", you will need to install spacers between the sides of the unit and the opening's edges. If the opening is smaller than 14-1/8" x 14-1/8", you will need to enlarge the hole to fit the unit snugly inside the opening.

Advent Air AC Collapsible Gasket and Foam Pads

On the bottom of the AC, there's a thick, collapsible gasket with 6 noise-reducing foam pads. This provides support between the RV roof and AC and seals the opening to prevent water and outside air from leaking in. Because of this, the use of fresh sealant isn't required during installation.

To install the start capacitor, bolt it to the fan motor support with the included hardware and then route the wires to the run capacitor.

Once installed, the hard plastic cover on the AC can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning.

My review is on Lori at etrailer, when I ordered my advent a/c unit I knew it would not be available for 6 to 8 weeks, she kept me informed & when they received a shipment let me know, delivery was quick. Thank you Lori for keeping me informed . Due to travel I won't be installing the unit till spring so I can't review it at this time. I have bought from etrailer in the past & will again in the future, Great job. 572881

My husband installed this as a second air conditioner in our 5th wheel. Installation took a little longer than expected due to getting the inside template to line up with the main unit. Also, it is pretty noisy on medium and high; however, that doesn’t bother us as we like to sleep with “white noise”. Overall, it cools well and is a fairly straightforward installation with minor adjustments needed. If you are mechanically inclined, installation should not be an issue. 647387

Advent air conditioner arrived in a timely manner. Everything was as expected. Installed the unit, and it worked fine. Only issue was that the instructions for installing the additional start capacitor were a little vague. Talked to David at etrailer, and he provided an excellent video that clarified the installation. It would be nice for etrailer to provided a roof adapter for my ProMaster to fit the contour of the roof, but I was able to obtain one from Impact Graphics to ensure a leak proof installation. Have been very pleased with everything I have ordered from etrailer. 807029

Very pleased with this unit. This was a new install onto a 2002 Palamino Bronco 1200 slide in pop up truck camper. Installed directly onto existing 14" roof vent. Total project took under 2 hrs. Camper was not pre-wired for A/C, so 20A circuit was installed using plastic wire conduit/moulding. I had originally wanted to use a 2000w Honda generator to power camper, but will need to upgrade to a bigger generator to power this unit. 774948

Review from a similar AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

I'm planning on using my trailer as a workshop so heat and AC were important. This AC unit was easy to install into the existing 14x14 vent. Took me about an hour to install and everything went smoothly. My trailer is 28 ft long so I'm thinking that I'll be needing a 2nd unit at the far end. I'll decide that after I'm finished insulating the walls. I've already put in 2 inches of rigid foam on the roof and that alone made a huge difference. 655942

Comments
AC works well but I recently upgraded this unit to the remote thermostat so that I would have more precise temperature control. Upgrading was easy just bought the part from etrailer and installed. I definitely do need a 2nd unit which I hope to do soon.

Review from a similar AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

As with other orders, the generator showed up on time and in good shape. The etrailer videos were very clear as to remove the old AC and replace it with the new Advent unit. The etrailer videos also showed to install the capacitor, the heat strip, and the distribution box. We were worried about getting the unit on the roof of the camper however it really was not a problem ….. we leaned a ladder up against the camper, tied a rope around the box, then leaned the box against the ladder. One person got on the roof and pulled the rope while two more people pushed from below... no problems and in about a minute the box was on the roof. The unit is now installed and looks good …. no power at the storage yard so I can only assume that the unit works as it is supposed to (like ever thing else we have ever ordered from etrailer). Good Job guys! 644424

I am surprised by the missing inside grill cover. I thought the AC unit would come with a new trim cover for the inside. I used the old one and it doesn’t fit correctly so it’s just hanging there. Does this AC not come with a trim cover for the inside? 765183

Received Advent Air Replacement Rooftop RV Air Conditioner for Carrier Setup 15,000 Btu White- ACCAR150 in excellent condition by UPS. Replaced one of my old Carrier Air V air conditioners on my 32' Damon Daybreak motor home. It was easy to install and the conversion kit that came with it worked very well. Quiet even when running on high speed. Used the same remote and ceiling mount I had with my Carrier Air Conditioner. 528083

Review from a similar AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

I’ve had the advent ac unit for a year now and love it . Our fifth wheel was preprep for the second ac unit so it was simple to install. We use it mostly to cool the rig down after set up and on those hot humid nights or when the outside temps shot up in the afternoons . But yes I would recommend this unit . In fact if the need would ever arise I’m would order the direct replacement for the factory installed Dometic unit on the rear . Shipping was fast with no damage. 664585

I bought this for a 1983 ford shasta r/v Took about 1 1/2 hours to install. would have been less time but I had to reroute the 12/2/ rx to the other side. Was very easy to install. So next time I hit a very low tree branch and rip off my a/c unit I will get another one here!!! 489289

Review from a similar AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

The unit seems to be a top of the line quality product. Installation was fairly straight forward except the instructions are outdated. Instructions tell you to remove the receiver cover to prep it for mounting the Coleman control panel. The cover is not removable, it's now a high density foam. Also the supplied hardware is not long enough to go through the cover. The photos in the instructions are very hard to determine what they are of. 510096

Labor Day weekend 2018 we were camping at a site in direct sunlight. While running the unit on high we experienced a smell of something electrical over heating. I feel that the compressor failed. I have been in touch with the company and have the location of the nearest service location but have not been able to take the RV there yet. There is a 2 year warrantee so it shouldnt be a problem just an inconvenience.

This unit can't be beat if you are replacing a stock Coleman--Avery straightforward installation. Airflow is better than my old Coleman but temperature is not. I've taken 3 trips with this Advent on Summer days with temperatures in the 90s, and in all cases the output temperature never got cooler than 60. The old Coleman could blow 50 degrees. 551026

Comments
Where are you measuring the 60°? According to the manufacturer, ASA Electronics, if your trailer has a ducted system, its possible that theres a leak in the ductwork. The best way to rule out the AC unit itself is to measure the output air temperature right as it leaves the unit.

  • What Size Generator Is Needed to Use the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner
The Advent Air RV Air Conditioner with Ceiling Vent and Start Capacitor part # ACM135BC requires 3,000 watts for starting and 1,000 watts while running therefore a 2,000 watt generator would not be suited for this or any RV air conditioner for that matter. Instead, I recommend the etrailer Portable Inverter Generators part # 333-0002 which has a 3,200 watt starting and 2,900 watt running power output. This will give you enough power to start and run the air conditioner as well as power...

  • Recommendation for Adding AC Unit to Small Enclosed Trailer
The best option we have available for your converted enclosed camper is the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM135BC because it's going to provide the most efficient cooling solution for the camper's interior during those hot summer months. We do not have any smaller AC units available and anything smaller we offer will be something like a powered ceiling fan vent which will only work to circulate air around the camper and not actually cool it down. This AC unit also has the start capacitor for storing energy to make startup easier under less power draw, which is really nice with certain RV power supply locations.
