This AC unit from Advent Air is designed to replace the old or broken Carrier air conditioner on your RV or camper. The included adapter wiring kit ensures that the AC works seamlessly with your existing, in-good-working-order Carrier air distribution box and thermostat. The AC has a powerful fan and motor that provides a steady stream of air to efficiently cool the inside of your RV on a hot or muggy day. The included start capacitor will help jumpstart the AC. This beneficial upgrade provides the AC a boost when shore power or generator power isn't enough to start it. And everything you need in order to replace your AC unit is included, which makes installation simple and easy.

Start Capacitor

Advent Air Start Capacitor

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

Advent Air AC Installation 13,500 BTU

Because your RV is likely already prepped and pre-wired for an AC unit, installation is simple and easy. Most AC units, including this one, are designed to fit an opening that measures 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". Depending on your roof setup, you may need to do minimal alterations. If the opening is larger than 14-3/8" x 14-3/8", you will need to install spacers between the sides of the unit and the opening's edges. If the opening is smaller than 14-1/8" x 14-1/8", you will need to enlarge the hole to fit the unit snugly inside the opening.

Advent Air AC Collapsible Gasket and Foam Pads

On the bottom of the AC, there's a thick, collapsible gasket with 6 noise-reducing foam pads. This provides support between the RV roof and AC and seals the opening to prevent water and outside air from leaking in. Because of this, the use of fresh sealant isn't required during installation.

To install the start capacitor, bolt it to the fan motor support with the included hardware and then route the wires to the run capacitor.

Once installed, the hard plastic cover on the AC can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning.

we installed the AC unit yesterday and it is working good on low speed but won't run on high fan. Im not sure if it is the fault of the unit or something in the wiring or the printed circuit board. The unit we replaced got to the point that it wouldn't run on high either. Getting the unit on top of the camper was easy once we viewed a video of how it was done, and we got the old unit down with no problem using the rope and ladder.

Review from a similar Advent Air AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

Installing was quick and efficient. At first when I hookup up unit on the inside, it was blowing hot air. After purchasing the advent air distribution unit without thermostat, everything runs smoothly. I love my unit. This my first time installing everything. I would buy again, if my second unit goes out. Great replacement for carrier unit.

This was a replacement for a Carrier V 15,000 roof top. Still using the Carrier control panel and ducting. Runs and cools good but cycles more than our older advent air 13k ductless in the bedroom. Cycling may be caused by the ducting instead of ductless. It is quieter than the old Carrier V and seems to cool the same.

When I ordered a rooftop ac, I was informed it may take up to 3 months for delivery. I rec'd the ac in less than 3 weeks so was extremely satisfied. 3 of us installed which went very smoothly all within 45 minutes. The ac has been working fine ever since. Also etrailer's price was a 1/3 less than [outdoors store]

The AC in itself is a little smaller than the one that it replaced and also a little noiser. The install was fairly simple and speedy it 1hour and 10 minutes to get up and running and would have been quicker if the start capacitor would have been installed at the factory, but all n all a simple install.

Review from a similar Advent Air AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

I have tried to get this thing to run for over a year now. I'm on the third thermostat, I've checked the 12V voltage and the 110 voltage and both are good. I've wired it as per the manual and it still will not run. It will start, but will not continue running. I get an E5 code which is a communications error between the thermostat and control box or low voltage. Followed up on both and still not finding the problem. Nothing I try seems to work. My next move is to return it on warranty. I'll let you know how that goes. Right now I'm not a happy camper (pun intended).

Comments
The best way to troubleshoot the issue is to have a technician come take a look. If you would like to talk through the error code with the manufacturer their number is 800-688-3135.

Review from a similar Advent Air AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

AIR CONDITIONER ARRIVED IN 3-4 DAYS AS EXPECTED. PACKAGE LOOKED TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE. UPS DIDN'T COPY MY NAME OVER TO THE SHIPPING ADDRESS, ONLY THE LOT #. HAD A RV REPAIR PERSON THAT DOES WORK IN THE CAMPGROUND INSTALL IT FOR ME. WE USED A LADDER AND ROPE TO SLIDE IT UP TO THE ROOF OF OUR 2003 CARRIAGE CAMEO 5TH WHEEL. ONE PERSON PUSHING IT UP AND ONE PULLING. IT WORKED VERY WELL. THE NEW ONE BOLTED DOWN AND HOOKED UP JUST LIKE IT SAID IN THE DIRECTIONS. TOOK A LITTLE BIT TO HOOK UP THE ADAPTER CABLES AND INSTALL THE EXTRA CAPCITOR FOR WE WERE REPLACING A CARRIER AIR V MODEL, BUT NO SERIOUS PROBLEMS. TOOK A TOTAL OF ABOUT TWO HOURS FOR TOTAL PROJECT. COULD HAVE DONE IT MYSELF IF I WASN'T HAVING A BACK PROBLEM. SEEMS TO RUN FINE EXCEPT FOR I WISH THE BLOWER WOULDN'T RUN ALL THE TIME, EVEN WHEN THE COMPRESSOR ISN'T RUNNING. MY OLD CARRIER DID THE SAME THING. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER THERE IS A WAY TO CHANGE THAT OR NOT. I DIDN'T TAKE ANY PICTURES WHILE INSTALLING IT BUT WILL TRY AND TAKE A PICTURE OF THE NEW ONE INSTALLED.

Seems to be good! i dont use it much in the summer but use it a lot in the winter down south. still would like it to shut off when the compressor isnt running.

Review from a similar Advent Air AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

I upgraded from my Dometic 13500 Brisk 2 to the Advent 15000. The installation was flawless, but, the installation is not entirely seamless. My Dometic had a two speed fan while the Advent 15000 has a three speed fan. I believe that the Advent is running on the medium and low speed. The unit cannot defeat the Florida heat. At 99F the unit only dropped the temp 8 degrees. The air at the registers seem to be cold, but, the airflow was not what I expected from the 15000 unit. I’m hoping that the Advent ACTH12 thermostat will work. It doesn’t appear that etrailer sells them without the AC cover. Without the initial high airflow to defeat the heat, this unit will not make muster in the south. To be fair, I’m giving a 5 for the customer service and swift shipping. All the guys got me this far, they are terrific. I submitted a question for the additional information needed to get it right. I checked all the QA&A and comments for anyone that has experienced my problem. A couple fellows upgraded but said it was all good without mentioning the three speed difference. My guess is that they live in a cooler climate or don’t realize the 15000 has three speeds. If I get the Advent thermostat and it solves my problem I will readdress my comment and also update the Q&A page.

The Advent brand was recommended to us by several mobile RV repair people. Selecting the right unit was made even easier by the descriptors etrailer used. Installation was very simple and we had the old uninstalled and new installed in under 30 minutes. This unit is even quieter than the Dometic it replaced. Item was delivered within days of ordering. Easy breezy.

It has been about a year since I installed these units. They have been working good with no issues. The installation was easy. Had to have an adapter harness to change from the older ac units. The opening was slightly different, but got it to fit with minor modification of the mounting ring.

We are very happy with the Roof top air conditioner we purchased for our RV. Thank you Tommy for advising us to get the start capacitor also. It was a great recommendation. Installation was a breeze. To be honest I didn’t like how the AC arrived and I think it needs to be more protective around inside the box so it doesn’t get any scratches or dens other than that I love the performance of the AC it works great and was so easy to installed it and just because works great I’m giving 5 stars

Review from a similar Advent Air AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

I really debated about buying and installing a replacement AC unit ourselves or having a local RV dealer do it for us. After a lot of research, including reading etrailer's great on-line Q&A section, we ordered the Advent Replacement AC with the Coleman set up w/start capacitor. The wiring, which was my main concern for doing it ourselves, was truly "plug and play" and matched the old unit perfectly. No new control box or air distribution cover needed. The worst part of the entire process was getting the old, much heavier unit to the ground. The new unit fired right up and started cooling the toy hauler in the 113 degrees Las Vegas heat whereas the old unit was pretty much maxed out once we got past 90 degrees.

Review from a similar Advent Air AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

Unit fit well. Instructions were pretty clear. It would have been nice to know that the Advent did not come with control unit. Fortunately the old one was not damaged or I would not have been able to install. The Advent unit is smaller than the Coleman-Mach and somewhat louder. Otherwise is cooling well at this point.

Review from a similar Advent Air AC Unit in RV Air Conditioners

One little issue with the shroud around the condenser was rubbing and causing a lot of noise. Not a big deal. Trimmed with a utility knife and all good. It also is not exactly plug and play. It takes some trouble shooting to get the wiring correct with the furnace and AC to work with the thermostat
