Video Transcript for What to Know About the Propane Hose

Michael: Hi, there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a quick look at the JR Products propane hose. This is designed like most of your propane hoses to allow you to run LP gas through it so you can get it from point a to point B so you can power up your propane-powered appliances. Now there are a few things that you want to look for when shopping for a propane hose. You want to make sure that it's going to fit your setup and your needs.

The first thing you're going to want to look for is the length, so obviously you want it to be able to reach from point a to point B so you can get that propane flowing through there. This is a six foot long hose, so as long as point a and point B are less than six feet apart, you should be good. The hose itself has a rubber construction which is going to help be resistant to kinks and cracking, anything like that. It's got an internal diameter of three eighths of an inch, so that should be plenty of room for that LP gas to flow through there. You shouldn't have to worry about limitations. It'll power almost all your appliances, so not something that you have to worry about there.

The next thing that you want to look into are your fittings. So there are several different kinds of fittings available for propane hoses; you want to find the kind that are going to work for your setup. So here we've got a 3/8" male NPT fitting. This is most likely going to connect to your regulator on your RV or travel trailer, but it could be used for other devices as well, depending on what your setup is.The other fitting we have here is our half inch female SAE swivel fitting. It's that swivel there, so it's going to be a lot easier to get this mounted onto whatever you're using.

You're not going to have to twist the hose to get it tightened down. This will just swivel on there. If you can see in the inside, there is a flared fitting. There are several different kinds of SAE fittings. This is using the flare there.

That's where it's going to connect to the male portion to create that nice seal so you don't have any gas leaks, so look out for that. This hose is UL and CSA approved, so it's going to hold up to those high quality standards. Should do a good job for you. Hold up well, do all that you need it to do. Now keep in mind, if this isn't the hose you need, maybe you need a different length so that it'll reach from your point a to point B, or maybe you have different connection points that you need to attach to, I want to encourage you to come look at some of our other options here at etrailer.com. We've got many different propane hoses, so hopefully we can find one that will meet your needs. Our goal is always to help you find the product that you need to solve your problem, so you can get back to enjoying your time outdoors. That's going to complete our look at the JR Products propane hose.

See what our Experts say about this JR Products Propane Fittings

  • Longest Length for Propane Hose with 3/8 Inch NPT and 1/2 Inch FIF Fittings
The longest propane hose we offer with both 3/8" NPT and 1/2" FIF fittings is 6', the Propane Hose - 1/2" Female SAE Swivel x 3/8" Male NPT - 6' part # 37207-31485. The longest propane hose we offer is the MB Sturgis Propane Hose - 3/8" Female Flare Swivel x 3/8" Female Flare Swivel - 20' part # MBS37FR which measures 20' in length and has two 3/8" FIF fittings. Therefore, you'd need to source some adapters locally to make this work. We do not offer custom hose lengths unfortunately.

  • Propane Hose to Connect Between Regulator and Trailer Supply Line
I may be interpreting your specifications inversely - I think you are saying the regulator output is 3/8" male and the input to the trailer is 1/4" male. We don't have a hose that fits to that. However, the output side of most regulators is female NPT and usually 3/8". So you will need a hose that is 3/8" male NPT on the regulator end. The propane service line under the trailer is generally steel/iron and sized larger than 1/4". If you need a hose to transition from the regulator to...

  • Propane Hose to Go Between 1/2 inch Fitting Regulator and 3/8 inch Fitting
Yes, the Propane Hose part # 37207-31485 that you referenced would be correct for you and would fit both fitting sizes you mentioned.

  • Availability of Replacement Propane Supply Hose Flex Tech H72812-72
The JR Products part # 37207-31485 that you referenced is an exact replacement for your Flex Tech H72812-72 so it would work great. It's 72 inches long, 1/2 inch diameter, and has 3/8 inch fittings on both ends.

  • How To Hook Up Water Heater to Tank with POL Fittings
If a regulator is needed you could use the Camco Horizontal 2-Stage Propane Regulator part # CAM59333 and attach this directly to the tank. The Propane Hose part # 37207-31485 could then be used to attach the regulator to the water heater. The hose is 6' long and has a 1/2" flare fittings on the other end. If you need NPT you'll have to source an adapter locally but most hardware stores will have one. I have attached our other hose length options below.

  • Changing Propane Lines On a 168 Shasta Compact Camper When Relocating Stove
Personally I would only use the black steel pipe for anywhere below the RV and going through the floor surface into the camper. This is just going to be much safer than having a rubber line since rubber will degrade over time and can more easily become damaged. Rubber lines should really only be used going from the propane tank to the regulator and from the regulator to the black steel pipe under the camper. You can use copper lines once inside the camper like you already have in parts....
