GasStop ACME vs POL Graphic

  • This valve is only meant to be used on travel trailers and fifth wheels that have the ACME connection fitting. Please see the graphic above to double check what type of valve you need.
  • Adapter fitting (sold separately) may be required to connect your hose to your propane system's regulator.

You're headed to the next campsite, and in the chaos of packing up, you forgot to turn off your propane system. While on the road, someone rear ends you, causing a propane line to come loose, and you now run the risk of a fire breaking out on your RV. It's a dreaded situation that no one wants to suffer through.

Unlike EFVs and other built-in limiters that just reduce the flow of gas, GasStop shut-off safety valve immediately and completely shuts off your gas supply when it detects either a major leak in your propane system or major failure of your regulator. This protects both your family and your travel trailer or fifth wheel, ensuring that your camping trip remains safe, fun, and worry-free. And while this safety valve will shut off for major leaks such as a large break in the hose, it won't shut off for small leaks that result from your regulator's small housing failure or clogged chambers. This means that your furnace or heater won't go out in the middle of the night while camping in the frigid mountains over a small, less dangerous leak.

GasGear Stainless Steel Hose has a 90-Degree Fitting

GasStop Stainless Steel Hose

If your propane setup is in a particularly small or cramped compartment, the 90-degree ACME connection on this GasGear hose makes it quick and easy to hook up to your tank. This helps prevent the hose from bunching and puts less strain on it, which means it'll last longer. And you can put a cover over your propane tank without the hose snagging the fabric or stop it from fitting over the tank altogether.

The braided stainless steel hose won't crack or tear as easily as traditional rubber hoses, which get stiff after a period of time due to daily wear and tear. The hose is also corrosion-resistant, so it can withstand the elements much better than rubber hoses.

Using the Pressure Gauge to Test for Minor Leaks

GasStop Safety Valve Testing for Minor Leaks

The integrated pressure gauge provides a clear and easy way to tell what your propane tanks gas pressure is while the gas is being used. If it's on "high", there's been an increase in gas pressure, most likely due to excessive heat, and you'll have to cool the tank down. If it's on "gas", then you'll know you still have plenty of usable gas left. And if it's on "low", then it's time to switch out your tanks. The gauge is also rotatable, so it can be used from any angle, though it is recommended to keep it no lower than 45 degrees from the sky.

The gauge can also be used to test for minor leaks. Once the GasStop safety valve has been installed and the gas appliances have been turned off, push down on the gauge 4 to 6 times to see what the gas pressure is. If the needle is below the red bar on the gauge, then one or more of the following is the cause: the cylinder valve isn't open, the GasStop safety valve has shut off, you have run out of gas, you haven't pushed the gauge the appropriate number of times, or the temperature is around freezing.

If the needle is above the red bar, note its exact position before turning off the valve on your propane tank. Wait 60 seconds for standard applications and 5 minutes for longer RV gas systems. If the needle is in the same position, you can continue to use your propane system. If the needle dropped during that time, there is a leak somewhere. You shouldn't use your propane system until that leak has been found and repaired.

Installing the Safety Valve

GasStop Safety Valve Installation

This GasStop safety valve is extremely simple to install. Once your propane system and all of your gas appliances have been shut off, tighten the GasStop safety valve onto your propane tank. Then re-attach your regulator and install the hose before checking for any leaks in your propane system. To allow the gas to flow, push down on the gauge face 4-6 times.

Video Transcript for Review of GasStop Propane Fittings - Emergency Propane Shut-Off Gauge with Hose - GS67FR

Hi there. I'm Michael with Today we're gonna take a quick look at this GasStop Emergency Propane Shut-off Gauge with this 18-inch long hose. So this is gonna help protect your family against any major propane leaks and regulator failures. Whereas your propane tank itself and your hose both have safety features that are gonna help reduce the amount of propane flowing through if they detect a leak. They're still gonna allow just a little bit of propane to flow through.

So that can be pretty dangerous if you have a fire or something like that. This system is going to cut off that flow 100% immediately if it we're to detect any leaks or regulator failure. So, this is gonna give you a lot of peace of mind knowing that propane is going to be completely shut off. You won't have to worry about the trickle coming through still. This does have the Type-1 ACME fitting.

So this is gonna be compatible with your travel trailers and fifth wheels. We do have a different device, that's the POL connection for your Class A and Class C motor homes that is sold separately. This one is designed specifically for your travel trailers and fifth wheels that use that ACME fitting there to get connected to your tank. And this also has this rotating pressure gauge that's going to give you a nice quick view of: If you have high pressure in your tank, if you have sufficient gas, or if your tank is getting close to being empty. And then if you we're to experience a leak or something like that and it shuts down, all it takes to reset it is to push that in four to six times and that will reactivate it and allow the the propane to flow through again.

So, very simple to use. And this can also be used to check for minor leaks if you we're to be experiencing that. This will alert you to that with a very simple process, very easy to get installed on your tank with that ACME fitting. You just tighten down onto your existing propane tank's gas cylinder, and then we've got our hose here with the same kind of ACME fitting. So that's just gonna fit right in between there.

So this is gonna add a little bit of space for you, from what your system currently uses. It's just a slightly over 3 inches and call it 3 1/8 of an inch, additional space that this is gonna require. And so that's really nice benefit to our hose here. It does have a 90 degree angle, so unlike your other hoses that would have to kinda come out and make a wider loop to get down to your regulator, this is gonna give you that nice tight 90 degree angle. So it's gonna fit into your tighter spaces. If you're trying to use a cover for your propane tanks, this is going to make it much easier to fit in without having to worry about the hose snagging the covers. And because this is in a GasGear braided stainless steel construction, you're not gonna have to worry about it cracking or stiffening, like rubber hoses. So it is gonna hold up really well for you. Like I said, it is 18 inches long. It's got the ACME fitting onto one end, and then a quarter inch male inverted flare in there to connect to your regulator. This does have a 200,000 BTU maximum flow capacity and 250 PSI maximum pressure rating. So it will do a great job for you connecting your shut-off valve to your regulator so that propane can flow through nice and smooth for you. The two components here are going to meet the UL and CSA standard, so you can trust that they are gonna do a good job for you, will give you that peace of mind that you need. Just know that your propane is gonna be completely shut off if there we're to be a leak. You don't have to worry about propane being kind of a scary subject sometimes. You don't want to have to worry about leaks while you're out. So this is gonna be a great addition for your setup. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with Thanks for watching..
