Video Transcript for All About the Curt Pintle Hook with 1-7/8" Hitch Ball

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Curt Bolt On Combination Pintle and Ball Mount with a 1-7/8" Diameter Ball. Now this is a pintle hook and hitch ball combo that'll let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The pintle hook portion of this will allow you to connect to a lunette ring coupler and allow you to tow up to 16,000 pounds. It is designed to fit lunette ring couplers that have an inner hole diameter of 2-1/2" or 3". You can also use this as a 1-7/8" hitch ball and connect it to a standard ball coupler and allows you to tow up to 6,000 pounds.

Just to show you the two different ways, if you're gonna hook it up to lunette ring, what you wanna do is pop open the safety clip, remove that. As you can see, it's tethered so you don't lose it. Pull up on your handle right here and then just lift up the upper portion and that'll lock into place just like that. You'll get your lunette ring, which is a round ring, as I mentioned, the inner hole, it'll work on as either 2-1/2" or 3". Drop it over the ball.

Once that lunette ring drops over the ball, just push this down to hold it into place and then put your clip through there again to secure it. And it's locked and you're ready to tow with a lunette ring. If you want to tow with just the hitch ball, what you'll do is the same way. Open this up, lift up on your upper portion so it locks into place up there. And then you can use this 1-7/8" hitch ball to connect to a standard ball coupler.

You don't need to push this back down, you just leave it open. And what you'll do though is take your pin and with your pin, you'll go ahead and slide it through up here and clip it. And that'll hold it in the up position so it won't go down. You'll have your coupler on there. So there's two ways, it's a combo.

You can use it with either a lunette ring or just a regular ball coupler. And then to close this, just push it down, take our pin, slide it through and clip it. You're ready to go. If you notice back here, it is a bolt on installation. It is designed to bolt to the Curt Pintle Hook Mounting Plates. There are quite a few of those we sell, and these has the same dimensions that'll bolt up to the mounting plate. Comes with the included hardware right here to bolt it to that mounting plate. Those mounting plates, we do sell separate on our website. Just to let you know the dimensions on these holes back here, if we measure 'em, the width center to center, we're gonna measure. So from the center of center from one bolt hole to the other is 3-3/8". And the vertical from center bolt hole to center bolt hole this way is gonna be 1-3/4". The mounting holes are 9/16" diameter. Now the hitch ball we mentioned, this will let you easily, you can, this is a 1-7/8" size it comes with. They do also sell a 2" ball separately if you need a larger one or a 2-5/16" ball separately, you can swap the ball out by unloosening this nut, putting the other size in there. Those hitch balls we do sell separately on our website. The 2" ball goes by part number C48820 and the larger 2-5/16" ball C48830. This part is a strong forged steel construction. You can see it has a nice rust resistant finish on it. Uses a high gloss powder coat finish on the pintle hook. And then the ball you can see is a chrome plated hitch ball. We mentioned the safety pin up here, it is tethered, so it does, you don't lose it. And it's used to lock the handle into place. Again, the gross towing weight capacity, if you use it as a pintle hook, 16,000 pounds, if you're using it as a ball coupler, 6,000 pounds. But that's gonna do it for the review on the Curt Bolt On Combination Pintle and Ball Mount with the 1-7/8" Diameter Ball.
