Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Buyers Products Combination Pintle Hook with two-inch ball. So you can use this ball mount to hook up to a regular coupler using the two-inch ball that's included. Swap this out for a two and 5/16 ball if you want to. But it comes included with the pintle lock up top held in place by a latch, and it springs into place locking in and then pinning in place so that you can't remove it. So if you have a lunette ring trailer you can drop that down over, put the pintle lock in place and tow that type of trailer too.
Let's check it out. Now a couple specks about the ball mount itself. It's gonna be made for two and a half inch hitches, so that shank is going to be two and a half inches by two and a half inches. Be sure you're getting this for the right truck. If you have a two inch hitch with the weight capacity here it's gonna have a gross trailer weight rating of 20,000 pounds.
That's how much weight it can pull. And a maximum tongue weight, that downward pressure, of 3000 pounds. Be sure to check what your truck is rated for because you do want to go by the lowest rated component in your system, but that's what the pintle hook can handle. And with this ball mount, what you see is pretty much what you get. There's not a whole lot extra going on with this.
Things like your hitch pin and lock are not included, and I would recommend a locking hitch pin just because it's gonna be more secure. The etrailer Locking Hitch Pin is a good recommendation that I would make, because again, it's locking and it secures very easily, keeping all of this nice and safe. And with this, you can see it's also a fixed ball mount so there's no height adjustment here. So if you're hooking up to a variety of different trailers or you just need a set drop height for your one trailer, then maybe you need to look at other options because this one just comes straight out from the hitch. If you're looking for an adjustable option, I'd recommend the Blue Ox adjustable ball mount.
That one also comes with a standard ball for other couplers, but it has that same mechanism up top for lunette ring trailers, and it operates very similar to this one where you push it in place and that spring latch locks in place, or we can raise that up and leave it open for a regular coupler. So if you like how that mechanism works then that would be a good option to look into. It is a fair bit more expensive because it does come with a lot more features, but the adjustment that you get with that is really nice because you can adjust it up or down for a variety of different drop heights, so you can match your truck to your trailer combination very easily. One measurement we do wanna keep in mind though is the center of the hitch-pin hole to the center of the ball where our trailer's gonna actually be hooking up. And that measurement for us today is going to be 11 and a half inches. So that can just help us know where our trailer's going to hook up and sit relative to our truck. So you can go to your hitch on your truck, measure it out, and see where that hookup point's going to be. And if you need more clearance, maybe your trailer sits a little too close with that, you can check out some other options that give you more clearance. And as we lower our lunette ring trailer down on top of it, you can see how it fits and how that pintle lock works. It's gonna slide down over the top of that ball just like it would on any other pintle hook until it sets in place and we can raise the jack of the trailer up. And for demonstration purposes, now I'll just show you that latch or that pin can be unlatched, push that lock into place, and then re-pin it. But overall, that's how the hookup process is gonna go, and that's how it's gonna work with your lunette ring trailers. And that's really all there is to it. Like I said before, it's a pretty simple system with not a whole lot of moving parts going on here, but it's simple and if you need simple then this will definitely do the trick. It's got more than enough weight capacity, I think, for most people, but if you need something that has some height adjustment do check out that Blue Ox option that I mentioned before. But that'll do it today for our look at this Buyers Products Pintle Hook and ball mount combination. Thanks for watching.
