Comments
Off road lights are more like flood lights. Used on the road they would utterly blind the oncoming traffic. Actual driving lights are highly focused and are intended to illuminate the roadway beyond the reach of your high beams. Fog lights also illuminate the road surface but should be mounted down low to prevent the light from reflecting back at you off the fog. You are trying to get the fog light under the fog.How many lights you can run off of a single relay depends on the rating of the relay and the amperage draw of the individual lights. It is better to put them on separate fuses and relays because if you are close to the limits of the components, you may experience a voltage resulting in poor lighting performance.

Good Easy to install looks good and works well. Had to by a fuse adapter to plug directly into fuse so that I did not have to split my wiring. Ask any auto place they should be able to explain better. 1087

Ask the Experts about this Westin Off Road Lights

  • Will # 09-0205 Driving Lights Work with Westin # 30-0025 Safari Bar on a 2001 Mazda Tribute?
The Westin # 09-0205 Driving Lights will work absolutely perfectly with your # 30-0025-1155 Safari Light Bar. They were unfortunately not able to provide me with any information about the amperage draw of the light kit. As far as the lamps causing an inadvertent draw on the battery goes, you won't need to worry about that happening as long as the lamps are installed according to the installation instructions.

  • Where Does the Yellow Wire of the Westin Driving Lights # 09-0205 Run To
I attached a diagram for the install of the Westin Driving Lights # 09-0205 that you referenced. The yellow wire needs to run to a parking light circuit. You will want to use a quick splice like part # SWC501746-1 to tap into this circuit. You will need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wires of the running lights on your vehicle till you find a circuit that comes on when the running lights are on and then connect to that wire.

  • What is the Difference Between Driving Lights and Off-Road Lights
Some of the exterior vehicle lights we carry are listed from the manufacturers as driving lights and others they list as off-road lights. The differences between them in most every case is the intended applications for the lights which is determined by the manufactures in the conception and design phases of development. Basically, the lights listed for off-road are best suited for off-road applications. They tend to be larger as well. The lights listed as driving lights are more suited...

  • Troubleshooting Westin Driving Lights Malfunction When Vehicle Parking Lights are On
Since the lights function properly except when the harness is connected, something in the harness, or associated with it, is preventing the circuit from being completed. This sounds like a grounding issue. There are 3 wires that need to be properly grounded, the vehicle switch, the lights themselves, and the ground from the relay. Please check all of these grounds and make sure that they are attached to an appropriate metal surface and are properly grounded. Also check the connection...

  • Are the Westin Driving Lights # 09-0205 DOT and SAE Approved for On Road Use
The Westin driving lights, # 09-0205, should be used as supplemental lights but are not designed to be primary vehicle lights. My contact at Westin confirmed that the 55 watt halogen bulbs produce a white light that is a DOT approved color and intensity. The SAE would factor in with the construction and function of the lights but not the legality of them. That rests with the DOT.

  • Do the Westin Driving Lights Install to the Parking Lights or Headlights
To install the Westin Driving Lights # 09-0205 you would not necessarily have to run them to the running lights of your truck. I spoke with one of our installers and they told me that technically you will want to wire this to the low side of the headlight wiring on your 2005 Ford F-150. You need to run the wiring to a switched circuit so that there is not power running to the relay all of the time. All of the wiring would be completed in the same manner as explained in the video but...

Since the factory circuit was rated for a maximum of 20 amps, and the Westin # 09-0205 Driving Lamps draw up to 9 amps per light, you could certainly install them using the existing factory circuit and wiring. Keep in mind that the original lights might have been removed due to a wiring problem, so you should not assume that the existing wiring is in good condition. I would recommend examining the circuit, if possible. I've linked you to an install video that I hope you'll find helpful.

I spoke with my contact at Westin and he said you can install a second set of driving lights on the same relay and switch as your current lights as long as they are the same lights. If they are different lights, then it is not guaranteed that the lights will work on the same relay and will need to be wired separately.
