Combination Flood Beam and Spot Beam

The LEDs on the edge of the light bar produce a 90-degree flood beam, which is great for seeing out in front of you as well as off to both sides, making it an excellent work light. The center LEDs have 8-degree focus lenses to concentrate the beam for more focused light. This narrow spot beam pattern is great for seeing at a distance.


High-Quality Light Output

Lumens are used to measure the amount of usable light that is put out by a light source. This LED light bar has the capability to produce 8,800 lumens of high-quality, bright light.


Cool-colored light, especially that with a high color temperature, promotes driver alertness, as opposed to warm-colored light, which promotes relaxation. Video Transcript for Pilot Automotive Light Bar Installation

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Pilot Automotive Light Bar. Part number PL-9705. As you can see, our forty LED lights are producing eight thousand eight hundred lumens of focused light. As you can see, we get an extra-wide ninety degree flood beam compared to our regular incandescent factory bulbs. This is what your Pilot Automotive Light Bar looks like when it's installed on your Gator. It features forty bright, high-quality LED lights. The pilot light has voltage protection which keeps the light operating at the correct voltage.

The housing itself is made out of black powder coat dye cast aluminum, so it's going to resist rust and corrosion. The brackets and hardware are made out of stainless steel. The wiring harness is included and you can splice it right into any switch. Now that we've gone over all the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. Now, here's what our kit comes with. You get the twenty-one and a half inch pilot light bar, the two mounting brackets for both sides, all the hardware you need to bolt it on, the two pads for underneath the brackets, and the wiring harness.

Now, first thing we need to do is determine a good spot for our pilot light bar. Let's go ahead and put on our brackets. These can be installed either way. You can have them facing out or in. We're going to go with out.

We'll take our hardware and just loosely install it. Then we'll just repeat that same process for the other side. We'll bring it over to our Gator, and you can mount this really anywhere you want. We're actually going to mount ours at these two factory locations here. We've made some minor modifications that way we can ensure our brackets line up on both sides. Now, let's go ahead and see where our wires are going to run.

Underneath our hood here, we discovered that a good spot to run our wires through would be right in this location here. There's nothing underneath that we can come in contact to. Let's go ahead and grab our drill. We're using a one inch hole saw and we're going to go through right here. Now back here at our light, let's go ahead and hook up our wiring harness. We want to be sure and line up the notches. Push it all the way on until we here the click. There it was. Perfect. Then, we'll bring our light back over to our Gator. We're going to feed our wiring harness through our hole. Just go ahead and put all the wiring down through there, so we can get it out of the way. Now we can get ready to go ahead and mount our light. Now, let's grab our rubber pads and our hardware. We won't be needing the nuts that come with the hardware, so we can set those aside. The pads, the wholes are actually offset so we want to be sure and match up the hole with the underside of the bracket which will be this position here. As you can see, when we put it on the holes will be lined up. We can grab our hardware and put that through, then we can actually line it up with our factory mounting point. We actually got lucky. The threads are just going to line up with the threads on our Gator. Let's loosely get that started, then we can do the other side. Once we've used our hand to get it started, we can bring in our included tool and tighten that down a little further. With that loosely installed, let's go and do the other side. Now with both sides started, let's go ahead and make sure it's straight and we can tighten them all the way down. I'd say the light looks pretty good. Let's go ahead and finish tightening up. Now, let's tighten up our actual light. We can adjust this later, but we can get halfway straight now. We'll bring in our other included tool and tighten down the sides. Perfect. For our on and off switch we're actually going to tap into our headlights switch here, so we'll need to remove that. We're just going to pop it loose, pull out the wires from the back, and then we can access them down here. I've got my wires down here and I need to figure out which ones are hot and which ones are not. We'll need to check both of these. I'm using my wire tester here. I know that one's my constant power, so I'll need to go with this one down here. This is going to be the switch. For my pilot light wiring harness, I'm actually going to strip all of this rubber back here so I've got plenty of wires to work with. I won't be needing the wire strip up here, so I can go ahead and cut those off. I'm just going to cut it back here . Be careful not to cut yourself. There we go. We just cut off that excess conduit there. Now, we can cut back the wires. So that I know that my red wire is my power wire, we're actually going to be quick splicing that into one of our two wires down here. Our black is going to be our ground. We're going to connect that to the body underneath. We'll actually take our quick splicer, we'll take one of our yellow wires . Let's go ahead and do it this way that way our metal piece is sticking up that way we can easy access it. Then, we'll take our red wire. We're actually just going to slide it right up next to it. We want to be sure not to come out the other side. Make sure it's between the two there, and we can take some crimpers and just make sure that metal piece goes right through. Just like that. We'll take our little cover here, bring it over the top, and snap it in place. Since we know our Gator is all-weather, we're going to go ahead and take some electrical tape and wrap up our wires. For our black wire, let's go ahead and strip it back. Then, we'll take a ring terminal, slide it on, then we'll crimp it. With our ground wire connected to our ring terminal, let's go ahead and connect the ring terminal to a portion of the metal underneath the dashboard. We'll connect it to this location right around here. We'll take a self-tapping screw. We'll put it to the ring terminal. We'll go right through here. Before we put our switch back into our dashboard, let's go ahead and plug it back in and make sure that everything works. We'll just plug it in here. We'll make sure our auxiliary is turned on on our Gator. We'll flip our switch. Then, both our headlights and our new pilot LED light bar should be working. With everything working, let's go ahead and turn it back off. Turn our auxiliary power off. Remove our switch. Then we're going to bring everything back up through here, along with our switch, we'll make sure it's plugged in. Then we'll just put it right back into the dashboard, like so. Now we can grab some zip ties and clean up everything underneath. Underneath we'll just kind of bundle everything up. We'll grab a zip tie. Let's go ahead and run one more to tuck it up even further right here. Perfect. Let's go ahead and cut those and we're all set. With everything all hooked up, let's go ahead and check it out. As you can see, we've added a little bit more light than just our factory headlights. That's going to complete our look at the Pilot Automotive Light Bar. Part number PL-9705.

OK, someone needs to come up with a way to do an apples to apples comparison on lighting. This was a shot in the dark for me, no pun intended, because there is no way to compare lumens to watts. As it turns out, this light is sufficient for my needs. I really like the clarity the white light has. My biggest problem was the lack of any instructions at all. Not even on your web sight. Unless you are a wiring expert, you better do your homework for this installation. 176236
