  • Vehicle recovery capacity: 21,000 lbs
  • Maximum load (break strength): 63,000 lbs
  • Stretch rate: 25%
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Note: When using this rope you must also use components that are designed for recovery operations. Do not attempt to use your hitch ball for recovery operations.

The Big Dog rope is easy to set up for recovery operations. Simply connect one end to an anchor point on the stuck vehicle using an appropriately-rated bow shackle (sold separately). Connect the other end to an anchor point on the recovery vehicle using a second bow shackle.

With some slack in the rope accelerate the tow vehicle up to 16 mph, then slow or come to a full stop. As the rope stretches it builds kinetic energy. This energy is converted to potential energy at the stuck vehicle. This potential energy generates force that will help propel the stuck vehicle toward the towing vehicle.

Video Transcript for Review of Bulldog Winch Off Road Accessories - Kinetic Recovery Rope - BDW20314

Today we'll be taking a look at the Bulldog Winch Big Dog Kinetic Recovery Rope. This is going to be really useful for those situations where we're going to be getting our vehicle, whether that's a jeep, truck, ATV, any kind of off-road vehicle stuck. And typically, if you're going rock climbing or rock crawling, doing some mudding, anything like that where you might get stuck in the mire. This is going to help to get you back out, and out on the trail again. The reason being that you'd want to use a kinetic rope versus a static or just a stable tow strap is because this isn't going to allow you to build potential energy as you pull on that rope. Whenever your vehicle that's stuck is connected with that kinetic rope, as your towing vehicle pulls that, it stretches the rope out, builds potential energy and then causes a slingshot effect to pull that stuck vehicle out. That can be very effective in getting your vehicle out of that mire. And it also is going to be better for those situations because it's not going to cause that same sort of jarring that we typically get whenever the slack is taken out of a static rope.

Whenever that static rope becomes tight or that wire becomes tight, it's going to really jerk on your vehicle, and it can cause some potential damage there. This is going to be pretty quick and easy to set up. You'll just want to choose two secure attachment points, both on the vehicle that you want to recover, and the vehicle that you're using to recover, so, your towed vehicle and your towing vehicle, more or less. That way you ensure that you're not going to cause any damage to those attachment points since that's going to be the typical point of danger with these ropes. Is that you want to make sure that whatever you're attaching it to is up to the task. You don't want to attach it to a hitch that's got rusty bolts because it can be a potential failure there.

So, definitely choose your attachment point wisely. The way that you'll attach that is either by using a bow shackle, or a rope shackle. We have both options available here at etrailer.com.Pros and cons with either one. That bow shackle, or a steel shackle is a little bit easier to attach to a factory tow point, like a tow hook on your vehicle or your hitch, anything like that. But, in the unlikely event of a failure where something we're to break, that shackle coming back with all that potential energy built up can be pretty dangerous, as it slings back.

The rope shackle, you don't have that issue, but it can be a little bit cumbersome to get around some of the factory attachment points. And you want to make sure, again, that you choose a really safe point, typically going around the frame. So, some things to consider there. As far as the construction of our Big Dog Kinetic Recovery Rope, it's made of a durable high strength nylon. That's what's going to give us our stretch. This has a stretch rate of 25%.

So, we can use this on one-ton trucks and class four and five vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 21-thousand-pounds. The thing to keep in mind with that number though, that 21-thousand-pound working load limit. Anytime your vehicle is stuck in the mire, depending on how stuck it is, that's going to increase the potential energy that you need out of your rope. So, even though 21-thousand-pounds might be well over what your vehicle weighs, you still want to be able to have more than enough weight carrying capacity to make sure that you stay safe and everything works well. We'll have our loops on either end to connect. And then also, a little strap saver there, makes it easy to bundle this up. You just have a polyurethane coating on the loop ends to give it a little bit of extra protection, helps to keep scratches and abrasions to a minimum on your vehicles. And also, helps that to reduce wear a little bit more. The Y portion of that loop end, it's woven in and then sewn with some cord there and then heat shrank . or there's a heat shrink sleeve around that, so it makes sense that portion really secure. Very unlikely that that's going to come apart anytime soon.Yeah, and we'll have our little keeper strap, keep everything nice and tidy. It also comes with a camo mesh bag to put that in, to keep everything a little bit more contained. And that folds out so you can fit that all inside there. Makes it easy to carry this around so you're not having to lug this giant rope everywhere, gives you a little bit better handle on it.Our rope measures an inch and a half in diameter and it's 30 feet long. Again, our vehicle recovery capacity is 21-thousand-pounds. It has a maximum load or break strength of 63-thousand-pounds. But again, you want to go off that lower 21-thousand-pound number. This does have, again, a stretch rate of 25% and it comes with a one-year limited warranty from Bulldog Winch. Another thing you want to keep in mind is that you always want to go with a secure mounting point. You don't want to just put one of the loop ends over your hitch ball, because that can easily come off and cause some issues there.Whenever you're using this, you also want to start slow, accelerate a little bit, and then slow down so that it can build that potential energy and cause that slingshot effect. And always use good common sense whenever you're towing any kind of vehicle. And that's going to do it for our look at the Bulldog Winch Big Dog Kinetic Recovery Rope.
