Video Transcript for Review of the Westin PRO TRAXX Oval Nerf Bars

What's up everybody Adam, here with etrailer. Today we are gonna be taking a look at the Westin Pro Traxx Nerf Bars. With the Western Pro Traxx we're gonna have some options. Well, one, you can have the black powder coated finish, which I like that, but you can also get silver as well. That just all comes down to the look you're really going for on your vehicle and we also have some other options. So the ones you see right here are the cab length Nerf Bars, but we can also get some that'll be wheel to wheel.

So it'll be a little bit longer. So we'll have an extra third step right here. So if you do have a toolbox or you just tend to get stuff out of your truck and you need a little bit more lift to get up in there, you can get the wheel to wheels as well. There's also gonna be some width options. So, the ones we have right now are four inches wide.

When I mean four inches is just the width of our little step pad here. But you can also get a five inch wide pad. So if you want more surface area to step on, just so it's a little easier for you, we have those options. One thing I like about these is the oval shape. Some of the round Nerf Bars, I just don't like the looks of them.

It doesn't really fill up this whole entire area. And even with the smaller steps, meaning the four inch wide steps, it does kind of cover all this up, so it seems full. You know what I'm talking about, whenever you see running boards on a truck or whatever, and it just seems like there's just a lot of gap there. With this it just fills it up so it seems kind of like factory, like it's supposed to be there. It's not just some cheap bolt on accessory.

So this is gonna be an upgrade from some of the entry level type, three inch wide Nerf Bars. It's also going to be an upgrade from some of the hoop steps, just because it adds a little bit more of a look. I don't necessarily love the hoop steps, just because, again, it just doesn't seem full. I like the looks of the vehicle and that's half of the reason why I grabbed running boards. Yes, it's nice to have a step, but looks is a big thing. When it comes to looks I did notice, on these we actually have this little bracket that is going to cover up the metal bracket underneath. So that's kinda how it mounts to the underneath of your vehicle. But I like how they threw these in, just because again, it looks more full and it looks really neat. This is definitely the middle of the road running board. It's an upgrade from the lower ones. But if you we're to upgrade from these, if you're looking at some of the more premium options that you have, there's a couple of things you can do. If you really want to grab the more premium option that just gives you more of a step, the Westin Grate Steps have a six and a half inch wide steps. So if you're looking for something like that, that's probably gonna be a good upgrade for you. And it also has a lot more traction, 'cause it's all metal. If you don't really like the plastic pads, even though they're not gonna fade or crack over time, it would be an upgrade that way. Another one, you can get some motorized steps, which those are super fancy and fun, but I don't necessarily think that they're necessary for this truck. That's just me, but just know you do have some options for upgrades from the Pro Traxx, but you also have some low tier ones as well on our website. We have a lot, and a lot of you guys are wondering if it's gonna fit your vehicle, so be sure to use our fit guide. We have all that data in there, so once you put your vehicle in, it'll connect it to the right kit. I really like how long the step is. So on these right here, it's about 23 and a half inches long, which is plenty long for me. So I have a perfect spot to put my foot just getting in, just like this, which I like, but also whenever I'm just kind of hanging out, sometimes I actually put my feet up here to look up, especially when I'm kinda driving trails and stuff. It's right there and I have plenty of pads. I'm not just stepping on the bare metal, so I'll have plenty of grip. I have a roof rack on my vehicle and I use my running boards to be able to put accessories and stuff up there. Whether I'm putting, loading up my gear or just adding an accessory. It's super nice to be able to kinda come up. It's not wide enough to where I can kinda stay without having to hold myself up. Like I can lean over and do what I need to do. But again, if you really want to be able to just have majority of your feet on the running boards, whenever you're loading stuff up, you probably want to go with the five inch wide. And if you really want a lot, then go with the six and a half, but this is plenty good. I'm kind of on the balls of my feet, but I can still balance up here and load stuff up. But as I start to lean back, it gets a little bit more difficult. With the four inch wide steps if I measure from our rocker panel right here, it's about three and a half inches out. So we don't get four inches from the very, very side, which I don't mind that at all. I really like when the running boards are really close to the vehicle, but then when you get the five inch steps, the point at which the inside of the rail's gonna stay the same, it's just gonna get a little bit wider and stick out a little farther. We're actually still a couple of inches inside where our wheels sit and these are stock factory wheels. This isn't really gonna limit your truck at all. So it's gonna enable it to do more. Another thing that I would, I like to do in my trucks is put a mud flap right here, just to keep the running boards nice and clean. But another thing that I noticed about these, a lot of the end caps are plastic. And usually they keep a lot of that rust or the water out so it prevents against rust, but this is all metal. It's just one big piece, so it's not a cap. So there's nothing really to replace there. And there's definitely not any water getting in there, of course. A benefit to having the Nerf Bars being pretty close to the truck is the flex. So with the three inch Nerf Bars, some of them, they kind of stick out a lot and as you can see, I'm moving the truck and they're probably a little bit of flex there, but you can't really feel it. On my factory ones on my old car there's a lot of flex to them and I hate that. So with these, I really like how stable and solid they are, because whenever I step on something I just want it to be nice and solid. And the OEM ones that I have on my vehicle actually flex more than these. So that is definitely an upgrade. And another thing about the grip, this isn't gonna be as much grip as some of the Westin Grate Steps, just because that's literally just metal punched through. So that's gonna be extremely grippy, but this does have plenty of grip. So even if you have snow on your shoes, mud on your shoes, we do have some raised edges here and these aren't really gonna wear down, 'cause it is a nice, hard plastic. And then it's not gonna fade away or anything like that either. So, I like that. I'm definitely a fan of these. The whole point of Nerf Bars is just to help you and your passengers get in and maybe even just load some other stuff up on top of the roof, just so you don't have to step on the inside of the vehicle. You just want to keep it all nice and clean, but also, it's about the looks. And with me, I think it checks that box. I like the looks of it. I also like the options, so that is another box that it checks. I just really like where you have options, where the width, wheel to wheel, color options. And then of course it's just a solid, solid step. And that'll do it for a look at the Westin Pro Traxx Nerf Bars..

We were able to mount the running boards in a bout 2 hours total. They are very sturdy, everything lined up exactly, and they look Great! I had to call tech support because the instructions had not been updated to make sure it would fit my 2019 4Runner. They answered the phone quickly and confirmed that they would fit all the way up to a 2023 4Runner and they were easy to mount!

by:

The instructions are terrible. I ended up calling customer service. The gentleman I spoke with cleared things up and pointed me to a video that was helpful. The plastic covers for the support brackets fit snugly on the front brackets but the middle and back covers left a gap. I tried every hole combination but couldn't get rid of the gaps.

by:

Very good product. Fits perfectly my 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport.

by:

Installation of Nerf Bars was a breeze. So easy using the factory mounting holes. Perfect size for the regular cab truck.
Thule rack also straight forward install. We plan to load it up this week and really test it out. Looking forward to putting all of this equipment to work.

by:

Very happy with the finished product, but the installation had a glitch. When torquing the black cap bolts that mount the nerf bar to the brackets attached to the body, most of the cap heads stripped out. They would not take the torque. After six or eight of the bolt heads stripped, I just tightened them with a hex wrench. IMHO, hex head bolts would be a better application for the cap head bolts.

by:

These arrived a day earlier than was told. The box was in good condition and all of the parts were included. The installation instructions were good and the online videos helped. I installed them right after they were delivered. The bars look really good, I'm surprised at only 3 mounts per side though. Kinda looks like it should have 4. They are solid and I'm expecting many years of use.

by:

These rails look amazing on my truck!! Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the drivers side and passenger side are different and instructions only displays drivers side. 1.5 hour installation still not bad!

by:

Great product. Fits perfectly and adds to the look of my Gladiator. The only negative is the installation instructions are pretty weak with terrible diagrams. If you buy these, take your time and pre-assemble the mounting brackets on a bench to verify parts are assembled correctly. It’ll save you a lot of time and frustration.

Installed one year ago on my 2015 Jeep Rubicon Wrangler Unlimited. Installation was simple, with the exception of one thing. To install the step you must permanently remove the "rock sliders" with leaves the bottom seam of the body exposed.
The steps still look in newish condition, except for the color (now dark gray) which has caught up with all the black plastic on my Jeep, thanks to the AZ sun. The rubber tread can be slick when wet.

by:

Great nerfs! Easy install and they look fine on my 19 Colorado. The price was right and etrailer under-promised and over delivers with fantastic shipping! I am 73 years old and had them install with no hoist in an hour and a half. Simple tools and follow the directions for a great install.

by:

The nerf bars I purchased a year ago have held up wonderfully. They have no rust and the color is still fantastic. They were a great addition to my truck. They changed the look of my stock 2019 Ram 1500 completely.

by:

First off, aside from making access and egress from a truck much more graceful, running boards just seem to finish a truck off where the rubber meets the road. etrailer.com provided the boards on time as promised.
Other sites I initial ordered from canceled my orders due to accelerated shipping costs. They hesitated, waffled and dodged before canceling, delaying the whole process. Frustrating the living daylights out of me.
The truck (before and after) looks great and things are so much easier.
Thank you so much Etrailer.com and Westin the running boards are top notch.

by:

I am very happy with the nerf bars. The package was missing 2 lock washers but I had some that fit so it was not a huge issue. Installation was easy. I installed them in a couple of hours. They look great on my truck and make it much easier for my family to climb in and out. I have purchased other products from etrailer (a bike rack and a hitch basket) and they were fantastic also. In my opinion this is a good company with good products and service.

by:

Parts fit and installation was a breeze. The instructions should tell you that brackets have a stamp for location: Driver Side and Passenger Side. Found out via [online] (PF = Passenger Front, DF= Driver Front, PR = Passenger Rear, DR = Driver Rear. Otherwise the running board looks great

by:

I like that feel very solid no flexing when anyone stands on them. I have had a couple of friends who really like the look of them on the truck and ask where I got them. After one year of them on my 2022 Colorado I have had no problems at all.

by:

Great product. Only complaint is I own a 2020 Ram 3500 LoneStar. The rear brackets fit perfectly but the trucks mounting location was different from diagram. There is no opening to fish the brackets which came with bed connecting piece. Modification took about 30 minutes but done. The directions could be clearer for sure but as for etrailer and product itself great.

by:

Good points:
The rails and brackets lined
up pervert with the Dodge provided rod posts.
All in all installation was tight and sturdy.

Not so good points:
The stainless finish lacked a brilliant shine that I expected.
Had some dull spots. Stainless thickness gauge seamed a little light.
Installation instructions we’re not clear.
Brackets instructions should have diagram showing the layout.
Hardware could of been labeled better as well.

by:

These fit my truck perfectly . Fairly easy installation. Just put them on today but seem to be of very good quality.

by:

Quality product. Easy to install on my 2022 Ram 1500 Quad Cab. Ram thoughtfully installs the mounting studs at the factory. You simply attach the mounting brackets to the existing studs then attach the bars and some protective covers to the brackets. It took me 2 hours from opening the box to tightening the last nuts. That included reading and re-reading the instructions. I did the install in my garage, no lift or special tools. I used a 13mm deep socket, a 10mm socket, a 10mm end wrench, and a 6mm hex socket (I didn't like using the included hex wrench).

by:

Fast delivery, running boards fit perfect, look

by:

Ordered the nerf bars for my ram truck and received it when promised. Instruction is easy to follow and installation had no issues or problem. I really like the look of these nerf bars on my truck. Easy to order, timely delivery, great product with very good instructions and easy installation. Will order more accessories from this vendor.

by:

Order arrived a day early and in perfect shape, awesome customer service!! I wanted a bar that didn't stick out to far and this is exactly what I was looking for. The bars have a nice clean look to them, great welds and very sturdy. I especially like the plastic inserts that hide the mounting brackets. It gives it more of an oem finished look. I watched the install video a few times on etrailer and it made the install very easy. I have to say, if you had to go by the instructions included, it would be a little confusing. With the video, it was clear and very easy. Couldn't be happier with the product and service.

by:

Super easy to install, so save yourself a little time and put the little black plastic vanity pieces on before you mount anything to the vehicle..did passenger that way and it was much easier. Even with doing the drivers side the order of instructions it still only took 45 minutes start to finish, had I done both sides with the vanity pieces first probably would have been done in 30 minutes.

by:

These nerf bars are great! They are very well constructed, are easy to install, and look good. The fit my 2020 F-350 perfectly. They also are a great price. I went with the matte black finish and it looks great. I like the fact that the ends of the bars welded shut unlike other bars I have had which typically have had a plastic cap over the end. The plastic cap will eventually leak and the bars rust from the inside out. These bars do ride a bit higher than my old OEM Ford nerf bars did. This gives improves the look but creates a higher step. The one thing I would suggest to the manufacturer is to supply a few extra spacer washer in the kit for the purpose of leveling it out visually.

by:

When I received the running boards, the box looked like it was attacked by a grizzly. Luckily nothing was damaged inside. The instructions say that you need a 3/8" wrench, but a 3/8" does not fit, the smaller nut/bolt heads are actually 10mm. The polish around the foot pads looks like it was done by Ray Charles. That said, from a distance these running boards look great, especially if you have chrome bumpers and grille. The install was pretty easy. Now short people can get in and out of my truck with no problem.
