Video Transcript for Bestop TrekStep Truck Bumper Step Installation - 2016 Ford F-150

Today on our 2016 Ford F-150, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Bestop TrekStep Truck Bumper Step, part number B7530815. We've all been in that situation where we have our tailgate down, and we need to get in the back of our truck. Well, with the tailgate down, we no longer have the bumper as an option for a step, but that's where our truck step's going to come in. It's a spring-loaded step, so you made it a lot easier, allowing us to step up and grab the gear that we need out of our truck bed without having to strain. The thing I really like about this step is that you can use with the tailgate up or down, and instead of being a hitch-mounted step, it's going to leave our hitch open for plenty of other accessories. When we're not using it, our step's going to sit up nicely close to our bumper, and whenever we're ready to use it, there's just enough room to get our foot in there and bring it down. The mounting bracket and the linkage on our step are made of a high strength aluminum alloy, and they have a powder coat finish to resist rust and corrosion. Our stepping platform is also made out of aluminum with a nice rugged texture so we know we're going to have a secure footing whenever we're ready. Our step is going to be about 11 and 1/2" wide, by 6 and 1/2" deep.

Our step is going to feature a 300 pound weight capacity, and there's no drilling required. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's show how we installed it. To begin our installation, we're going to need to find the bumper mounting point on the back of our vehicle. Now we're going to be mounting our step on the driver side, so we're going to be finding the three bolts that are attaching our bumper on the left side. At the very edge of our frame here, we're going to have three bolts and nuts securing it in place. Now I'm going to be using a 21mm socket to remove the nuts.

We're going to repeat that for the other remaining nuts. Now that we have the nuts removed, you can see that there's quite a bit of tension holding those studs in place. I'm going to take a hammer and just gently tap on there, and it should release the clips of the little washers that are holding the bracket behind here in place. Now that we have them knocked loose, I'm going to push the bracket backwards, then we can pull it out. We're going to start assembling our linkage and our mounting bracket outside the truck. Now at the top of our linkage, we're going to have three threaded holes, and that's where we're going to be mounting our mounting bracket. Now at the top of our mounting bracket, we make sure that the angle is going up and away, and the linkage, you want the step to be coming towards you, so it should attach like this.

We're going to line up the three holes on the top of our mounting bracket with the three holes on the bottom of our linkage here. Now before we attach our mounting bracket to our linkage, I do want to bring up the fact that our kit does come with some spacers, which is going to be nice because if the step is too close to the bumper to where we can't engage it to bring it down, or if it's just making contact, we do have the option to put one or two spacers in, and if we do that's going to change the hardware we're going to use. It's still going to be the same size bolt, it's going to be an M10 bolt, but if we're using one or both of the spacers, we're going to be using the longer of the two M10 bolts. If we're not using the spacers at all, then we're going to use the shorter of the two M10 bolts. We can take our spacer plate, and I'm going to set it underneath my mounting bracket, then I want to take my M10 washers, I'm going to slide them over my M10 bolts, then I'm going to slide them down through my bracket and line up the holes on my plate underneath. That way, it's going all the way through. Once we have both of these in place, you can line up the holes and thread them in by hand for right now. For the small hole farthest away from our bolts that we just put in, we're going to take our M6 cap screw, and we're going to take an M6 flat washer, slide it over the bolt, and I can thread this in about hand-tight for now. For my M10 bolts, I'm going to come back using the 16mm socket and snug these up.

For my M6 cap screw, I'm going to come back and using the 3/16ths Allen, I'm going to tighten it up. Now we're going to get ready to put our step in place. Before we do, we're going to get our hardware ready. We're going to take our long M14 bolts, I'm going to take an M14 flat washer and slide it through. We're going to do that for two of the bolts, and those two bolts are going to be going to the two top locations that we originally took out. We're can take our step and mounting bracket, line it up with the holes, then we slide our hardware through. Once we have our hardware through, we're going to come to the backside and we're going to attach it using an M14 flat washer, followed by an M14 nylon nut. I'm going to get the nuts and bolts hand-tight for right now. Since our vehicle has a factory hitch, we did have that third stud coming through, so we're going to take our M14 flange bolt, and that's going to be the one that has a shoulder on it, and it's rather short compared to the other two as well. We're going to slide that in through the bottom hole, and then on the backside again, we're going to follow with an M14 flat washer and a nylon nut. For our bottom flange bolt, I'm going to be using a 19mm socket, and a 22mm wrench to hold the nut on the backside so I can tighten it up. For my two bolts mounting my step to the truck, I'm going to be using a 21mm socket and again, a 22mm wrench to hold the nut on the backside to tighten it up. We're going to repeat that for the other remaining bolt as well. We can go ahead and grab the step itself now, and get ready to attach it. To make it a little bit easier on yourself, you might want to extend the step out, and if we pay attention to our step itself, we'll notice that there's a sliding silver piece that has two threaded holes in it. If we look on top of our step here, there's going be a channel where it's going to fit right into. I'm going to take my step, I'm going to line up that silver piece in that channel; this is going to allow me to adjust my step to exactly where I'd like it to be. We can take our M6 cap screws, I'm going to come from the bottom going up, and line up the holes; then I can start threading it into place. I'm only going to get a few threads in, hand-tight for now, make sure everything's adjusted the way I like it. We're going to adjust where we want to sit our step before we tighten everything down. I'm going to line mine up pretty close with the edge of the bumper here; that way it's not sticking out past the edge of my truck. I'm going to come back with a 3/16ths Allen socket, and I'm going to tighten up those bolts. That'll finish up our installation. We're ready to hit the road. And that'll finish up our look at the Bestop TrekStep Truck Bumper Step, part number B7530815, on our 2016 Ford F-150.

Use your foot to lower this spring-loaded step from beneath your vehicle's rear bumper to easily access gear in the bed. The step bolts on without drilling, retracts under your truck for storage and works with your tailgate open or closed.

I had a Bestop TrekStep Truck Bumper Step on my previous pickup truck and immediately after I purchased my current truck approximately one year ago, I ordered one for it. It makes getting into the truck bed much easier. I highly recommend this product. 576048

The Bestop Trekstep was easy install. I'm 65 and did it in half an hour. The step easily flips down and back up with my foot and cuts the stretch up to the tailgate in half. Very solid feel to it. No flex I can detect at all. Very substantial fastening system to the truck. 389375

We installed this step on a Ford F-150. The installation was fairly simple except for removing the original bolts. We found a youtube video of someone doing the installation. This was a lot better than trying to interpret the written directions. We are very happy with the final result but the smallest bolt that went through to assemble the linkage to the mounting bracket did not have sufficient threads and bottomed out before it was screwed all of the way in. Fortunately, my husband had a set of dies and was able to add a few threads to make it work. The step will be very good for a short elderly person to reach into the truck when the tailgate is down. 469966

Still very fond of it. We show it to other short women. I probably should have gotten one for the other side but this one helps a lot.

Ordered step for a F150. Received step for F250. Didn't fit. Spoke with reps at etrailer about situation. They shipped me the correct step and I shipped wrong one back at their cost. Great customer service and quick solutions. Have used the step many times already and haven't regretted the purchase. Thanks. 447579

This is a quality product. It is solidly manufactured and functions exactly as it should. Install was fairly easy except for one minor flaw which is the reason I only gave four stars. I can now get into the bed of my truck with the flick of a foot instead of jumping on the tailgate and rolling in. The kit comes with spacers to allow you to adjust how far you want the step from the bumper. The problem is if you don’t want to use the spacers the cap screw threads are too short and the screw will not seat. This is a problem that hasn’t been addressed as I read other reviews that mentioned it and my truck is a 2018. I solved the issue by using one of the spacers and adding an extra washer which allowed the screw to be tightened. 518044

Absolutely excellent experience. The packaging protected all of the parts well and the instructions were simple. Best of all, the holes matched up perfectly so the installation was a breeze. I did it on my back in the garage by myself and it took about 45 minutes. No more kneeling on the tailgate and climbing in to the truck bed. Love it. 566268

The TrekStep is well made and works great. It was purchased to make getting in/out of the bed with the tailgate down easier and safer. I only gave it 4 stars because of some unnecessary difficulty installing the it. The provided M6-1.0 x 75 mm Socket Cap Screw is only partially threaded. As a result, unless one or both of the 1/4" Spacers are used, the Cap Screw will not seat against the Mounting Bracket as indicated in step 3 of the installation instructions (see attached photo). I wanted the step to be as close as possible to the bumper in the retracted position so I had to install the Spacers on top of the Mounting Bracket instead of between the Mounting Bracket and Linkage Assembly as indicated in step 7 of the installation instructions. If the Cap Screw had been threaded like the Hex Head Bolts, I would not have had to use the Spacers like I did to make it fit. 458654

My "old man" step is EXCELLENT! The product was delivered quickly as promised. Ian W. in customer service pushed all of the right buttons for an excellent customer experience. When installed the step filled a need exactly as I had desired. My only negative comment involves the written directions for installation. If I hadn't previously watched the etrailer product review video for the step installation I would have been totally frustrated by the paper instructions. Bestop needs to step up there game relative to writing instructions. Also verify wrench sizes. At one point it called for a 17mm socket for tightening the large bolts, when in fact 17mm was to large and a 16mm was the right fit. I would highly recommend the product and etrailer as a supplier. Very satisfied with my decision to go in that direction to solve my problem. 563138

Step has proven worthwhile to get into the bed of the truck. The only drawback is when it is in the up position the entire step and bracket is visible, a distraction from the looks of the truck. 619684

Good product, but...…..installation instructions could be better. Some of the installation hardware was not included in the package (two metric bolts that I needed to attach the linkage to the mounting bracket were not included, although they were supposed to be in the parts package as shown in the installation instructions). 616379

Very rugged design, gives you the ability to easily change the step lateral movement relative to back of bumper (left or right) by a few inches based on preference. Installation claimed 1/2 hour install. Directions don't make sense unless you are under bumper and looking at vehicle and photos of installation at same time. Tools list claimed only needed allen wrench and 17 or 18 mm wrench. This is not correct. the installation hardware required two different size wrenches... IE I used 21mm, 18mm and the existing hardware on truck was I believe 17mm. 586557

The step arrived quickly and in good shape. It fit my 2015 F-150 perfectly, I had all the parts I needed and none I didn’t. It seems to be made with good quality, heavy duty material I used a deep 21mm socket to get the old nuts off, but the bracket was too thick to allow the deep socket to be used on the new bolts. A crescent wrench worked just fine. I used one spacer to allow a little more clearance at the bumper. This will be a great help for my short wife! 562922

Purchased the Trek Step for my 2018 Ram 2500 Mega Cab. It took my about fifteen minutes to install the step following the instruction provided. All mounting parts were included and only needed a few common tools. The step extends and retracts easily and feels secure while stepping up and descending the truck bed. The step is made of aluminum and feels to be made strong. Recommended if you need a little help stepping into your high truck bed. 517798

Step is working great. No more jumping up to access the truck bed. The step spring has held without issues. Great design for taller trucks.

I was smart enough to know the install was going to be hard. I paid Toyota to do the install while I was at a medical appointment. You really should have a rate system on how hard it is to do your own install. The product works at advertised and I am a heavy guy. The two guys doing the install said something to the effect "...I never thought my arm would fit like that to reach the bolt holes." This one was done first. Also it was said the truck pictures did not match. 79865

Product is great! Instructions were precise but I chose to not follow them as directed. I modified the bumper bracket & reinstalled it to maintain maximum strength. It would have been better if they had given the customer the option of modifying the bracket instead of “storing it for future use.” By modifying the bracket in place, several steps could be eliminated and the customer would maintain a stronger bumper. Also, I was disappointed the etrailer did not let me know that product was not in stock before ordering. The process did keep me informed when item was expected, when it was shipped and delivered. Thank you for a great product. 477832

I actually purchased a fold up under bumper step. I simplified the installation procedure by not removing the internal bumper support and only notched it for clearance. We use it almost every time we drive the truck. It is a very well designed and useful product.

Installed on a 2014 GMC 1500 Sierra w/o the step bumper. Installation was longer than the instructions indicted, but that was due to the manufacturer's bolts. The bolts for installing on the frame should be 1/4' long due to the design of the step. It was tough getting the nuts threaded. Would be better if the bolts were the same as OEM bumper fasteners. Other than that installation was easy. Reviews only lets you upload one photo??? Step works as advertised and I am pleased with it so far, but I will have to wait and see our it weathers a Canadian winter in Manitoba. (Road salt, slush, snow, sand, etc....) 266635

Great product! I call it my "old man step". When the tailgate is down on my Tundra, it was difficult to climb in and out of the bed. This step did the trick. It took me about an hour to install. It looks good and folds away neatly. 551597

Very difficult to put on alone. Need two people. Also need a thin wall 21mm socket for F250 Ford Pick up. Didn't have one and had to drive 50 miles one way to obtain. The recessed area that the nut goes in is very tight and hard to get a socket around the nut. The nut that came off the truck was a flanged nut and very tight in the recessed area on the bar that bolts to truck bumper brace. Very difficult to find 21 MM socket unless you buy a whole set of sockets and quite expensive. I don't recommend unless you have the right tools and a lift for your truck. Average JOE is not easy to install and you have to buy extra tools! As far as the step, it seems like it will be a help for getting in the truck with the tailgate down. When you step on it, it is a little mushy and not firm. It holds you but makes you a little nervous when first stepping on it. Just installed so will see how it last. Folds up and down nicely so far. Have dealt with etrailers for a long time and the customer services is always nice and all of the products I have received have been good. This is the first bad experience but wasn't their fault, it was the manufacturer. 528985

Received and installed this on my 2011 Silverado 2500HD. Installation is very simple but took longer than the 1/2 hr listed on the instructions. The thing that took me longer was in getting the socket to fit in the slot in the bracket to tighten the top bolt to the truck frame when installing the step. There is a piece of sheet metal attached to the underside of the bed that doesn't allow room for the socket to get between it and the step bracket. After various attempts, I ended up using a 3/8" drive socket instead of the 1/2" drive socket and bending the metal a little out of the way to get the socket in. Other than that everything went easily together and the step works great! I'd say it was a very worthwhile investment for this truck. 171237

One year later and I still like this product. I find it very useful and have had no problem. In fact I plan on getting the step for the side of the truck. My only complaints would be that I wish the step was a bit higher off the ground when lowered. I find it is quite a step down from the tailgatebumper to the step. The other issue is with dirt and ice build-up that accumulates on the top of the step while in the retracted position, but I suppose that?s not a fault of the step, but where I live.

Useful accessory if you're a short fella and constantly jumping in & out of the truck bed. A little disappointed that when retracting the spring loaded step, it slams against the bumper, even after using all the spacers. A foam backed adhesive strip will protect the bumper from scratches. 270592

Had to wait a little longer than expected to get this item, but totally worth it! Easy to install and really strong step. I especially like that it mounts to the frame, making it very sturdy. Will be buying a couple more for our kids who both have fairly tall trucks. Only regret I have is that I didn't wash the truck before taking the pictures. 336119

I bought my first TrekStep for my husband's Dodge 1500 last year. He loved it, so I ordered one for our son's truck. Trouble was, his truck has dual exhausts and the step I bought couldn't be mounted. I called etrailer and spoke to Julie - she got me the right one! Took some time to get because they were out of stock, but Julie kept me updated regularly. When it did come in, our son mounted it right away and is extremely pleased. Great products and even better customer service! 393048

Review from a similar Bestop TrekStep in Nerf Bars - Running Boards

Often when purchasing items that have vehicle-specific requirements for installation I am a bit skeptical everything will fit and be as easy as the reviews. This step was much easier than expected to install and works like a charm. Thanks for the speedy delivery. 522882

Review from a similar Bestop TrekStep in Nerf Bars - Running Boards

The product itself is well built, but this installation was far from easy as described. Estimated installation time according to the instructions was 30 minutes. It took me over an hour of disassembly just to get to the point where I could start the product installation. Not helping matters was the fact that the instructions did not match the 2014 Toyota Tundra that I was installing the product on. Once the existing support brackets were removed, the installation was straight forward and took me about 30 minutes to complete the install. Overall the entire project took me 1 3/4 hours. Product functions as advertised, but the installation was far from easy. 656247

Only problem I had was one hole on my truck had to be drilled to size and read the instructions on what the bolts and spacers fit your truck size I had thought that I needed to use everything that was with the kit so I have some extra parts, worked out good the product works great 644988

The biggest problem I ran into on the install was, I had to cut away a big part of my reinforcement on the back of the bumper extension. If I didn't have the background that I have, this would've been a real pain. This is NOT just a bolt on part. The step on the other hand works great. 639454

  • Best Truck Bed Step for a 2018 Ford F-150
  • I am not entirely sure what you are referring to but the Bestop TrekStep Truck Bumper Step part # B7530815 will fit a 2018 Ford F-150 as long as you do not have the 5-1/2' bed. This step can be installed on either the driver or passenger side of the bed. It features a simple bolt-on installation as you can see in the attached video. The step has a durable black powder coat finish and comes with a 3 year warranty. If you do have the 5-1/2' bed then the only option we have for you is...

  • Can Trekstep Part # B7530815 Install Offset to Allow Tailgate Access
  • Yes, if you check out the install picture I attached the step portion of the # B7530815 is actually to the right of the tailgate which allows it to be accessible when the tailgate is down.

  • Recommended Folding Bumper Step For Back Of 2004 Ford F-150
  • I recommend the Bestop TrekStep Spring-Loaded Step # B7530815 that is designed to fit your 2004 F-150. This step stores under the rear bumper on either the driver or passenger side to make it easier to access your truck bed. This step will work with the tailgate open or closed. The step measures 11-1/2 inches long and 6-1/2 inches wide, and has a 300-lb weight capacity.

  • Will Convert-A-Ball Step Gate Fit with a Hard Tonneau Cover on a 2017 Ford F-150 Short Bed
  • It depends on the design of the Tonneau cover. If there is any mechanism to open the cover right at the very end of the cover where it meets the tailgate then Convert-A-Ball Step Gate # CAB-SG-2R won't fit. But if that area is clear then it likely will work. Another option for your 2017 Ford F-150 is Bestop step # B7530815. It won't fit if your truck has the 5-1/2 foot bed so for those models you would instead use # B7541515.

  • Available Accessory Step for 2004 Ford F-150 STZ SuperCab Pickup
  • All of the confirmed fits for step products for your 2004 Ford F-150 STX SuperCab pickup are shown on the linked page. These include tube steps/nerf bars and also single step products. This mounts to either side of the truck, but up near the cab rather than at the tailgate. We do not have a tailgate step. You may prefer a hitch-mounted step like the Weather-Tech # WT81BS1 or the Carr folding hitch step # CARR183242.

  • Available Steps for 2011 Toyota Tacoma
  • Bestop TrekStep Truck Bumper Step # B7530815 only fits Ford F-150 pickups. Bestop does not offer a similar bed step for the Toyota Tacoma. We do offer hitch extenders/steps like # MT70069 if you need a step near the rear of the truck and have a 2-inch hitch. Toyota's term for their Tacoma cab with 4 doors is double cab; the version with 2 doors is called an Xtracab or Access cab. The fit of aftermarket items like steps will depend on this as well as on whether the truck is a 2WD or a...

  • Truck Step Fit for 2015 Ford F-150
  • For your husband's 2015 Ford F-150, the cab style will determine the fit. You will need to know if it is a regular cab, SuperCab, or SuperCrew cab. I've attached the link to all your options and you will simply need to select the cab style from the drop down to narrow the options to fit your truck. Everything on that product page will be a confirmed fit for that style truck so it should make things easy for you. For instance the # B7530815 you asked from is a confirmed fit for all...
