Video Transcript for RoadMaster RoadWing Removable Expandable Mud Flap System Review

Today we're gonna be taking a look at and also showing you how to install the RoadMaster RoadWing Removal Mud Flap System. Available in several different sizes for different vehicle configurations. Where the RoadMaster RoadWing is gonna be a really good solution to help save whatever it is you're hauling, whether you've got an enclosed trailer. In this situation we've got an RV towing a car. On road you're gonna have debris on paved roads. You're gonna have debris to come up, rocks, little pieces of dirt, sand, stuff like that.

But, when you get off road, you're gonna see gravel coming up. You're gonna see dirt. Out in the mountains, trying to get over some of those passes, you're gonna have a lot of stuff that especially dual rear RVs or dual wheel trucks are gonna be kicking up.This is also gonna come in a size that's gonna work for your full sized trucks and SUVs and your mid-size trucks and SUVs. So, regardless of what you're hauling in those situations, you're gonna probably be hauling a trailer, whether it's an enclosed trailer. Maybe you've got a boat or motorcycle behind there.

Maybe you've got a race car on the trailer, and you just don't want stuff being kicked up on it. These are gonna provide a really good solution. Now, all of these are designed to fit around a two inch by two inch shank. So, whether that's gonna be on your ball mount. This is our tow bar for a flat tow setup.

Or, even if you wanna protect items in a cargo carrier. Maybe you don't want stuff bouncing up on that. This is gonna fit right around the shank. You've got two bolts. You've got one here, one located in the same place on the other side. These are gonna take up any of the space.

You can see even when I'm trying to move it, that's real nice and solid. We're not gonna have to worry about his leaning side to side. Now the mats themselves are gonna be 24 inches in total length. We've already trimmed these to work with our RV. You can see we've got them riding pretty good, about an inch over top of the ground. This is what our flap looks like. This is the part that we cut off of the one that we have here. See it's a nice, solid, durable material. It has some flexibility to it. But, it's not like the thin rubber flaps that we see often installed. They've grooved the back. So, you can see this side is smooth. It looks like this. But the back that faces towards our wheels, they've grooved that. Now the grooves run up and down on the back side of our mat. So, they're kind of be sitting like this, and as debris comes and hits them that's gonna help to slow it down and direct it down and under our mat rather than have it just hit it, bounce off, and potentially roll under the mat.On the rest of it, we're gonna have good sturdy, steel construction. It feels nice and thick. Each end is gonna be capped off. You don't have to worry about water or dirt getting in there and causing rust. They've coated that all with a black power coat finish. Now, to get the RoadWing installed, you'll see that we've got the area right here that we're gonna be passing this shank on our item. We're gonna be installing this on our motor helm of the tow bar. This center section, you're gonna see in the expandable version. If you're using either the middle or the smaller size, this is gonna be solid. Your arms are gonna already be attached. As we slide this on, you see our bolts here. We're gonna have those closer to our vehicle. Just put it on loosely for now. We'll get this put back into position and we can resecure it. Now, we're gonna bring our section right up towards the rear of our vehicle. You're gonna have a little bit of a space here. We don't want it to be too far back, because then we'll run the risk of items bouncing over the top. You can see we've got our two bolts here on the bottom. We're gonna tighten those bolts down evenly there. Then, using a 14 millimeter wrench or socket, we can snug those up. You can see, we've installed our mat to our adjustable arm here. We need to slide our arms into each side of the center section. On the non-expandables, you're just gonna attach your mat using those four bolts. Now, once we have those started, we're gonna be able to move these in and out. Basically, these are gonna go anywhere from 102 inches down to 91 inches.I think you're gonna be best suited to have the end even with, maybe just past your bumper just depending on how wide that item is behind you. If you're a narrower kind of item, maybe you don't need all the protection on the outside. So, maybe you bring those in a little bit to give you a little more protection on the inside. Once we get those set where we want them, it's time to come through and we'll tighter up those bolts here in the middle. Now, we're gonna get our RoadWing flaps cut to size. What you're gonna do is measure from the bottom of the bar down to the ground and subtract maybe an inch or an inch and a half. Something to keep in mind, since we're doing an RV with the flat tow setup, we're not gonna really have any sag. So, this rear bumper is gonna stay about where it's at. If you're using any of the other type vehicles or if you're gonna be hauling a trailer behind your RV, you need to allow for the slack. You hook your trailer up, generally the back of your vehicle comes down a little bit. So, you wanna account for the sag plus about an inch. Now, I've marked down the distance from the bottom of the bar to the ground. That mark's right here. Then I just put an inch and a half piece of tape on it to give me that inch and a half. We're gonna cut right along that line. You just need a sharp knife to do it.We'll do just a couple of shallow passes, and eventually we'll have worked through the mat. So, if I just kind of flex that flap back a little bit at the bottom, we'll just keep working through that little bit of flex to help it to expand, make it cut pretty easy. When we get done with this one, we'll go do the other side. That's gonna complete our look at the RoadMaster RoadWing Line of Removable Mud Flaps.

Great product! Saved my F-150 toad from having to get new radiator and headlight after I had to drive over some debris on the highway.

by:

Okay there are only a couple small things that I have to grump about. First is that the mud flaps come rolled up and it is very hard to get them to lay flat now as you can see in the picture. Second there is no center flap included for total protection from debris flying from under the vehicle. Last thing is there should be a bar included for the bottom of the flaps to keep them laying flat all the time.

On the other hand...Etrailer.com really rocks!!! This is the first time that I have every used them and I will be using them again for sure. You are always being updated on the progress of your order. You order ships out right away and I had my order in a couple days. The price of this product from Etrailer.com was the best on the net that I could find. Oh yeah, and the fact that I got this item with free shipping is a total plus to me. Again I would recommend this site to anyone because they are good.

by:

The flap itself is excellent, having a receiver mounted one very convenient.
The issue I had was the single bolt used to snug up the entire setup. The previous units had two one one each side. To Roadmaster’s credit they were willing to accept my hitch mount and replaced with a two bolt version which solved the issue completely.

by:

Always have exemplary customer service. I know I can get exactly what I need and am looking for at a fair price!
Thank you once again! Once I install the item, I will send photos.

We bought these mud flats to protect our small Fiat 500 which we tow behind a small 30 ft class A motorcoach. The Fiat rides low to the ground. Before installing the mud flaps the Fiat sustained damage to a front parking light when hit by some small animal road kill. It also picked up tar in a construction zone. We had to cut the bottom of the flaps to shorten them but was otherwise an easy installation. They do drag a little when we enter/exit a steep incline. They do the job. We have put on about 3000 miles since we installed them without damage to the car.

Another 6000+ miles without issues or damage to tow vehicle. Great product!

by:

Very easy to install. Love the fact that there was no drilling into our Rv or car. Highly recommend!

by:

This is a high quality product that installs very easy. Unfortunately, when I stood back and looked at it, I realized that it won't work well for my application. The rear wheels of my dually will still send debris and mud over the top of the mud flaps outside the rear bumper of the truck. I also find that because they extend beyond the width of the dually, they will interfere with the front of my 5th wheel when making a sharp turn or backing. I will have to add some additional mudflaps immediately behind, and outside of the dually tires in order to prevent the debris from being thrown over the mud flaps. The Road Master mud flaps would be the perfect solution behind a motorhome, but not that great for my truck and 5th wheel.

by:

Great product. Almost covers the back of my moter home. Simple to install. Easy to remove when not towing my car.

by:

The mud flaps seem well made and are solid once mounted to my RV. Installation was easy, but there are quite a few nuts to tighten, so I would recommend a power drill if you have one to make it faster. The most time consuming piece of the installation was trimming the flaps. I followed the advice shown in the installation video on the eTrailer site and it was relatively easy, although it did take around 10 minutes for each side to trim the length to fit.
Overall, these seem to be a well made product with an easy installation.
I can not comment on durability yet, since I have just installed them, but the rubber flaps seems very sturdy, and I would expect them to last a long time.

I bought and installed these mud flaps on my 2014 Forest River Georgetown XL motor home to help protect my 2015 Chevrolet Equinox that I tow. they have performed flawlessly for me from California to Florida and return. I highly recommend this product.

Very easy to install and looks great. I shimmed my receiver hitch to ensure it did not wobbel. Protects my fifth wheel from gravel and road debris.

by:

The product did what I wanted it to do. It kept stones and debris from hitting the camper.
However, when you cut the flap to a height that is compatible to a good running height ( 4" above the road) the flap drags going in and out of parking lots. On one trip it drug so often the flap had a tear at the mounting bracket. I sent an email asking if I could purchase just the flap but I got no response. So I improvised and put another metal bracket joining both sections of the flap.

by:

Great service and products.

One mudflap is in 3 pieces out of the b ox.

It fits my needs perfectly

First off, etrailer carries a lot of great products and the customer support is outstanding. The RM4400’s showed up quick and in great shape. I like the one piece frame design, which made for a quick install. The product seems to be very solid. These were purchased to be used when pulling my new boat. I keep the assembly stored out of the way and attached to hitch drop, then when I’m ready to hitch up the boat, these are on and ready to go in thirty seconds. The true test will be in a couple of weeks on a run to Alabama for the spring Crappie hunt. Thanks etrailer.

by:

This RoadMaster RoadWing Removable Mud Flap (RM-400) is fantastic. The Mud and rocks that I used to get on my trailer are almost non existent now. I only wish I would have purchased it before the first trip with my trailer. I only took one trip to realize the extra mud flaps I put on My Ram 2500 were not enough protection against road debris. Great investment and product. Highly recommended.

by:

Absolutly love this product. Very easy to install. Looks great on my truck. Has done a very good job protecting my fifth wheel from rock damage. Would highly reccommend this product.

by:

Great product!

by:

Just want I wanted, I’m very happy.

by:

Great quality and fast delivery

by:

The rubber mud flaps were packaged rolled up with the metal bar mounting bracket inside the rolled up mud flaps.
The loosely packaged assembly allowed sliding around of the rolled up mud flaps along the metal bar mounting bracket which put black scuff marks on the "Roadwing" insignias.

by:

these work for me, sturdy and you do not have to have them on year round, my first set lasted 16 years, but eventually rusted out at the receiver hitch where the weld is and the cross tube, it could have been repaired, but I just bought new

  • Will Roadmaster RoadWing Mudflap # RM-4400-102 Fit 2016 Winnebago Forza 36G
Yes, as long as your 2016 Winnebago Forza 36G has a 2 inch hitch installed on it the RoadMaster RoadWing Mudflap # RM-4400-102 will fit and work great! It was intended for use on RVs just like yours as long as there's a hitch installed.

  • Compatibility of the Roadmaster RoadWing Mud Flap on a 2014 32 Ft. Grayhawk RV
If you have a 2 x 2 inch hitch installed on the back of your 2014 Grayhawk RV, then the Roadmaster RoadWing Mud Flaps, # RM-4400-102, will fit. The flaps measure 24 inches long x 36 inches wide. By measuring from the ground to the bottom of your hitch opening can give the clearance you will need to make sure the mud flaps will not drag on the ground. If the measurement is larger than 24 inches, then the flaps will not drag.

  • Roadmaster Rear Mudflap Recommendation for 2000 Ford Super Duty Dually
The correct Roadmaster Roadwing Mudflap System for a 2000 Ford Super Duty with dually rear wheels is the part # RM-4400-102 that is a confirmed fit. This setup includes wider flaps that will accommodate the wider rear axle wheel setup you have on your truck.

  • Preventing Rock Chips and Road Debris Damage when Flat Towing a Vehicle Behind an RV
Hopkins Heavy-Duty ArcticGuard Snow and Ice Windshield Cover # HM17529 would provide some protection against rocks but it is not meant to be used while the vehicle is moving despite the fact that the RV would be blocking most of the wind. It would ultimately result in damage and/or loss of cover. I recommend taking a look at our selection of vehicle guards and related parts, see link. Or you might also consider some hitch mounted mud flaps such as # RM-4400-102.

You can use the RoadMaster RoadWing # RM-4400-102 with your TorkLift SuperHitch # TLD1100 on your 2002 Dodge Ram Pickup, but I am not sure if you will be able to utilize both receivers with the mudflaps installed. If you are only using one of the ball mounts then this is a great option for you as the mudflaps are 36" wide.

According to Roadmaster the RoadWing Removable, Expandable Mud Flap System # RM-4400-102 requires at least 2" of space on the ball mount shank. Since this is the case and you have less than enough space I recommend installing custom mud flaps that install on your fender. The WeatherTech Mud Flaps # WT120035 are actually an excellent choice for your 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500HD because they install easily plus they stick outside the fender a bit as you can see in the attached installation...
