Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

ShockStrap Ratcheting Tie-Downs

shockstrap s-hook strap with shock

Made in America to military-grade specifications, these one-of-a-kind ratchet straps from ShockStrap are great for nearly any application, from securing your cargo on your vehicle for your next weekend getaway, to strapping down your favorite toys on your trailer. The 7' length of these straps is perfect for securing a motorcycle, UTV, or snowmobile in your truck bed or trailer.

Unlike traditional straps, which don't stretch or contract, these tie-downs are uniquely designed with built-in shock absorbers that allow the strap to maintain constant tension on your load as you travel. This is great for toys that have suspension systems that can compress and rebound when you travel rough terrain.

Built-In Shocks

shockstrap rubber shock

The webbing of standard straps can't stretch or contract to absorb impacts. As a result, standard tie-downs might become detached from their anchor points, or they may become slack around your gear as the load shifts. But these ratchet straps feature built-in urethane shocks that are designed to absorb impact and to allow give. This ensures that the tie-downs stay taut and won't loosen over time. The built-in shocks helps to keep the tie-downs from coming loose or failing, which could result in lost or damaged toys.

In addition, the shock ensures a longer life for the strap webbing. If you use this to tie down a motorcycle, for example, the constant compressing and rebounding of the bike's suspension during travel can wreak havoc on ordinary straps. The webbing is likely to experience more wear and tear as it rubs along your gear. But the ShockStrap's shocks absorb these jolts so that the webbing of the tie-downs stays put instead of wearing over the edges of your equipment.

Easy-to-Use Ratchet

shockstrap large handle ratchet

Each tie-down features a commercial-grade, heavy-duty ratchet. To release the ratchet, grab the oversized handle and pull on the release lever. The release lever is positioned on the outside of the ratchet to ensure safe and easy operation, even if you're wearing gloves.

How to Use the ShockStrap Ratchet Straps

shockstrap s hook with clip

To use the ShockStrap ratcheting tie-down strap, first attach one of the durable S-hooks to a desired anchor point. Then stretch the strap over your cargo and secure the other hook to a point on the opposite side of your truck or trailer. Each hook has a wide opening, making it hassle-free to maneuver and attach the hooks to your anchor points. And the retention clips on the hooks ensure that the hooks stay in place on the anchors while you're loading, as well as while you're traveling.

shockstrap soft loop with s hook

Soft loops, which are on both sides of the straps, can be used to tie down a piece of equipment that may otherwise be difficult to secure. So instead of using the hooks, which may scratch or scuff your toys and might be difficult to run through or around other cargo, you can easily cinch each tie-down around your gear. Just wrap a soft tie around the axle of your UTV or around the handlebars of your motorcycle, and then secure the tie-down to your anchor points as usual.

Once the hooks are in place, tighten the webbing around the cargo and activate the shock. To tighten the strap, crank the ratchet mechanism until the webbing is taut around your load. Be sure not to overtighten the strap. If your hand cannot fit between the shock and the safety strap, the strap is too tight.

To activate the shock, tighten the strap a bit more, stretching the shock until light is visible through the bolt holes in the shock. In warm climates, the shock can stretch up to 2", while in subzero climates you may only get about 1/2" of give.

Finally, after tightening the webbing and stretching the shock, make sure your cargo is completely secure and then tie off any extra slack.

Strong, Durable Construction

The sturdy, UV-resistant polyester webbing of these tie-down straps has a high tolerance for abrasion and water absorption.

The shocks are made of urethane, which can withstand elements such as sunlight, saltwater, moisture, oil, fungi, and most chemicals. These shocks can function in nearly any temperature, holding up to hot and cold weather conditions without losing elasticity or becoming unyielding or brittle over time.

The rust-resistant, yellow zinc chromate coating on the ratchet and hardware holds up to the varying weather conditions.

A safety strap is also built into each tie-down to provide peace of mind should something happen to the shock. This safety strap ensures that if the tie-down is used improperly, overloaded, or unduly stretched, your cargo will remain secured.

Video Transcript for Review of ShockStrap Ratchet Straps - Trailer - Truck Bed - SS93MV

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at Etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the ShockStrap seven foot long ratchet tie-down straps with the shock absorbers. And it says for a quantity of two straps. Now these are shock absorbing ratcheting tie-down straps. So, that'll let you secure your cargo in your truck bed or in your trailer. And wanted to zoom in to show you a new feature on this, which is the built in urethane shock absorber here.

And it's designed to help absorb any impact to ensure constant tension of the strap. Even if your load shifts. The absorber itself is made of a urethane based material, which will stand up to extreme temperatures, to saltwater, moisture, oil, and most chemicals. And if you notice, they attach the shock absorber to the webbing by using these grade eight bolts and the nylock nuts to hold it in place. Also, if you notice on the other side right here, there's this extra strap, that's a safety strap and that safety strap actually has two purposes.

First one is it gives you an extra strap, if for some reason your shock absorber would break. You'll still have a strap there. Now for this to break would take a lot. It'd be highly unlikely. The manufacturer says that this absorber would have to stretch at least 18 to 20 inches before it even think about breaking.

And you're really never going to get it to stretch that much. So, but it's just for safety reasons. They have the strap here, but the other main reason they have it is to act as a limiter. So that you don't over ratchet the strap. And the way you would do that, is as you hook your strap up and you're ratcheting it down, as it stretches this absorber a little bit, the strap will get closer.

What you'll want to do is take your fingers and slide it between the safety strap and the shock absorber. And if you'd be able to slide it in and out without having any problem, that'll mean you'd have the correct tension on the strap. So it's an easy way of letting you know how much to tighten it. These straps are DOT approved, Department Of Transportation, and they are made in the USA. Now because of this nice shock absorber feature these straps are great for securing cargo that might have a suspension system, that would compress or rebound when you travel through rough terrain. So, these would be great for tying down snowmobiles, motorcycles, utility tractors, or even ATVs, UTVs because once you get it hooked up, there's a chance if you hit a rough portion of a road and your suspension on the thing you're tying down would give a little, it would loosen that strap. So to eliminate that with this shock absorber in there, it will constantly keep tension on the strap to eliminate that. Now the ratchet mechanism itself right here, this makes it very easy to tighten the strap. And you can do that by just ratcheting it like that. And as you tighten it, it's pulling the strap in. Has a nice wide aluminum handle you can see and in the middle of this release lever. Ensures a nice, simple, safe operation. Even if you are wearing thick gloves, you'd be able to operate this handle. And I wanted to zoom out, just to show you, if you noticed again, if we ratcheted, it's pulling the strap in. Now if you go to hook up, what you want to do is, say you have a long distance to hook up to. You want to be able to pull that strap out quickly. You don't want to keep ratcheting it and the way you do that again is just pull up, pull up on this middle lever, this release lever and that'll release the handle from the ratchet mechanism and push it all the way as far as it'll go it will lock into place. And now it's able to pull the strap out, let's it free wheel and you pull out as much as you need. So you can pull it out a long distance hook it up. Once you're hooked up, pull the release lever again, that will release the handle, put it back into the ratcheting mechanism and just like that. You see you can ratchet it into position. So it's very easy to operate. Very easy to hook up. Now on the ends, let's zoom back in again, show you a closeup of the hooks on the ends. These are called S-hooks. They do have a nice spring loaded retention on there. So when you hook these up, then you let it go, it will hold it into place. And when you do open it all the way, it does have a wide one inch opening there to hook to your anchor point. If you'll notice it also has a nice rubber coating on it to protect any of your gear, your truck or your trailer that you're hooking these hooks too. And as we've mentioned, these retention clips keep them hooked to the anchor points and also you'll notice the strap coming off here, this extra strap with the loop in it. These are the integrated soft loops, so that you could wrap it around maybe an axle or a handlebar that the hook wouldn't be able to access to and then as you pull it tight against the, as you ratchet it down, it'll help hold it in place also. And again, these are on both ends of the strap. You can see here's the S-hook and here's the soft loop. Now all the steel hardware on these, straps are a corrosion resistant yellow zinc chromate coating. It'll hold up to hot, cold, wet weather conditions. The webbing itself has a nice durable black polyester webbing, which is UV resistant, and it will withstand any abrasions and water absorption. The dimension on this strap is one and a half inches wide. We mentioned it's seven foot in length. Now they do also offer this strap in a 15 foot length and we do sell that separately on our website, as part number SS43MV. Now, when you do hook this up, the minimum usable length, in other words, the minimum we'll retract to it's about 29 inches and also the maximum load or break strength on the strap is 3000 pounds. The safe working limit will be one third of that, which will be a thousand pounds. And one note I do want to mention is the tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit. So basically the weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps that are being used. So just to give you an example, if you're using straps that have a 500 pound working load limit, and you're tying down a load that's a thousand pounds, you do want at least two straps to safely secure that load. And it is always recommended that you use the straps in pairs. But that should do it for the review on the ShockStrap, seven foot long ratchet tie-down straps with the shock absorbers for a quantity of two..

I love these straps! They don't come loose and hold the SXS really well. Much better than standard straps! Standard straps would come loose on my SXS, these do not. I like the length, so I'm not tying off long ends. The loops give great flexibility too. Great straps, highly recommended and would buy again. My only question/concern is how long the "rubber" shock part will last. Don't know if over time it will crack or sun will harm, etc. But other than that they are great.

Still the best tie downs Ive found. Would buy again!

I brought this product as my 29' boat needed very strong bow straps to address movement while trailering. Just completed a 3,000 mile tow and the difference was amazing!! No jerking motion and the shock absorbers did their job on I95 bumps.

I highly recommend this product.

These shock straps are great for hauling our ATV. We had been using just regular ratchet straps and had to stop several times to tighten them back up, but with these shock straps, they stay tight the whole trip! They are truly wonderful!

I trailer my golding trike from MN to AZ or TX every winter.
Other tie downs tended to loosen up during the trip allowing my bike to move around.
These shock straps ABSOLUTELY stay tight and hold during the 1200 or 1500 mile trips!
TOTALLY recommend to all!!

Like everyone else I would go through the efforts of strapping down a utv only to see my ratchet straps hanging off the trailer as I look at my review mirror 10 minutes into my trip. Never again! Used these on a 200 mile round trip down all kinds of roads (freeway, country roads, dirt roads, etc) and never had to adjust or tighten them. A must have.

Looks like an excellent product from all the reviews and highly recommended by Dirt Trax TV. Delivery was good although it was one day late but not e-trailers fault. The tracking was excellent. I could see where my package was at any moment. Will post more once I actually use the product.

Have been using them for awhile now and absolutely love them. Easy to use, strong. Definitely recommend to anyone needing a good tie down.

These straps are great. The are strong and allow for some movement of the motorcycles without have the straps break or come loose. The Harley was transported to Las Vegas and back, 2500 miles with no issues.

These are great!!! Just got back from a 1200 mile Round trip to Tennessee. Used these to strap down 2 SXS. These straps didn’t loosen on bit.

Been on several long trips using these to secure my Honda Pioneer and never has once loosen. Theyre pricey but would trust these straps to secure any load.

Although these straps are on the more expensive side of things, I’m glad I made the investment. The shock absorbers on each of the straps works great and keeps my RZR from bouncing, as well as not having to retighten them. I highly recommend these!

When I first saw these straps pictured, I was intrigued. Later, when I needed some new straps, I quickly decided to give them a try. Now, after using them for a year, I can confidently state that they are great! The materials are top-notch! Most importantly, I tow our side x side securely!

These tie downs have been excellent. Use them to tie down our ATV, and our zero turning radius mower without any issues whatsoever. Used the tie downs frequently over the summer/fall months with confidence over very hilly terrain. Keep them clean or clean up if you get them dirty, then store where not exposed to the elements and should last for years.

Excellent, very durable and only minor wear showing after too many uses to remember.

Stunning. Ultra thick nylon straps, quality ratchet. The rubber cushion works exactly as advertised, I don’t have to tighten them nearly as much as regular straps. Bike seems to float on the back of my truck. Well done, truly

I have had a few sets of these Shock Straps for years now, bought the originals from the developer at a trade show.
I needed more, and etrailer shipped fast even during the holidays.

Shock Straps are pricey but worth it when you need to secure a load and not worry about it.

Great ideas but not well executed. The loose nylon ends have frayed quickly. The S hooks metal keepers broke off on first use.

I was looking for tie down straps to haul my ATV as well as my garden tractor. The standard straps were okay but did seem to loosen up after traveling for awhile. So I took a chance on these ones based on the details one etrailer as well as reviews. I have not been disappointed. They worked as described and do not loosen in transit. I would definitely purchase again.

I have a Polaris Ranger I trailer over a very rough road several times a year. Normal straps Have never been able to hold and always become loose requiring additional tightening several times during the journey. I purchased four ShockStraps and they work great. They allow the Ranger to move slightly which reduces the bounce of the trailer on rough dirt roads. Also, I have peace of mind on the freeway that the straps will stay tight. I have been using them about a year and recommend them highly.
