Video Transcript for CIPA Clamp On Universal Fit Towing Mirror Installation - 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Today on our 2016 Toyota Tacoma we'll be doing a test fit on the CIPA Universal Bar Clamp On Towing Mirror, that's part number CM11980. It offers us a wide field of view, it's going to allow us to safely change lanes, pass, park, or even back up while towing a trailer. As you can see I'm visible in the towing mirror, but not the factory mirror. If I take a few steps in towards my trailer this is the view you'd get with just your factory mirror. The mirror can be rotated 360 degrees and can be adjusted to most angles. We've got our left and right, up and down, and even diagonal.

By loosening up the large nut up top here we can extend our mirror out to better suite our towing needs. Once we have it set, you just tighten it up. By loosening up the knob here we can adjust our mirror anywhere along the bar we like. Once we've got it set we just tighten it down. If we'd like to have it up, move it up slightly and just tighten it up. You can see how it's not going to interfere with our factory mirror.

We've still got plenty of movement and we can even still fold it in. On the backside here you can see it doesn't use any straps to secure it to the factory mirror. Just two clamps up top. It comes in a quantity of one, so if you'd like to pick up one for the passenger side just use the same part number. Now let's show you how easy it is to get installed. I'm here on the driver side of my Toyota Tacoma and to begin our test fit let's go ahead and turn our mirror over.

We need to make sure that our clamps here are loosened up, that way we can easily fit it around our housing. We can do that by simply just loosening up the knobs until we have enough space between the rubber padding here and the bottom portion of the clamp. Once we have enough room we can turn it back over and clip it in place. I'm just going to have it centered up with my mirror here. You want to make sure it goes between the mirror and the housing.

Get it in position and then I'm just going to slide it on. I'm going to make sure it's slid all the way on, and then we can tighten it down. Then we can just our mirror however we want and we're ready to tow. That's going to complete our test fit on the CIPA Universal Bar Towing Mirror, part number CM11980 on our 2016 Toyota Tacoma.

Very adjustable, fit on my 2001 Ford F-150 Supercrew. Now can see side of camper and cars behind. Stayed on for a month including trip. After 3weeks they rattled off. They need a little pad screwed onto the mirror surround. Maybe double sided tape. Great product bounced down the street at 55 mph. I recovered both mirror with not even a scratch on them 436286

I put these on again, used these for a few months going from Florida to RI and got so used to them I never took them off, even when not towing. One day one fell off in the street at 50mph. Got two scratches on it and I put it back on. I suggest a sticky pad where it clamps on your plastic mirror housing. I would recommend this product for the F150 2001 supercrew without hesitating. Great product!

The first one fell off within 2 miles. The second made it about 20. Save you money and upgrade the mirrors themselves. 571524

Overall happy with these tow mirrors. They mount to the bottom of our 2016 Toyota Highlander mirrors and they give a good view of our oversized popup camper. They do shake a bit in the wind but they are easy to install and have never came loose. They only problem I had once was a gust of wind which caused the Toyota's mirror to fold with it attached. Since there is no custom mirror for our vehicle, they are the next best thing. They have lots of adjustability. 326962

Just received my extension mirror today. Had to reverse the “hand” of it to the left drivers side, as it came that way, but it was simple. After reading other reviews I chose to buy a third clamp to add to the bar and insure its stability, as some had issues with it getting loose in transit. It’s now set to the position I’ll need when we take our new Travel trailer out on the road in a few weeks. So far I’m thinking it’s the perfect replacement to the suction cup style I had tried that bounced and shimmied and made it strange to view traffic behind me. This new etrailer extension mirror clamped tight and feels very firm on the body of my 2014 F-150. We’ll see how it goes but my guess is it’s going to be what I hoped for. Price is right IMO, if it holds securely to the vehicle mirror. I really don’t expect it to loosen. 556372

Working out perfectly. One clamp broke from just a bit to much tightening, so I ordered 2 more. One to replace the broken 3rd clamp I prefer to use, and a spare in case it happens again. This mirror has been exactly what I expected and holds steady during highway speeds of up to 70 mph. Don’t need to go any faster pulling a trailer.

Excellent product. Easy to put on. Took them off, put them in my camper storage. Next trip out, when I put them on, I did not even need to adjust them! The mirrors are slight contour and slight magnification, which makes them easy to see. There is virtually NO vibration during travel. (I have had others that shimmied so bad you could not see a thing.) I flip my driver side mirror in frequently to check my mail box, so it is not very stiff. So I ran a small bungee from the clamp to the grill under my hood. Did this for both sides. My driver side flipped in when traveling at interstate speeds, so I put a second bungee on it. Fixed the problem. Allen bolts at top of clamp are rusting after 2nd use. All in all though, I am very pleased with this product and it is well worth the money spent. It is the only product I could find to properly fit my 2011 Toyota Tacoma, because it clamps on the mirror frame and does not rest on my truck mirrors. Great Product! 516262

Used these for a year, and camping about 10 times during that year, all over the state and they still work and look great! I highly recommend this product!

The mirrors arrived yesterday and I had them on my truck in 10 min. I drive a Nissan Frontier and our camper trailer was just too wide---I could not clearly see the traffic that was coming up from behind. These mirrors are golden. Completely adjustable and they fit securely and they are snug on my mirrors. I would recommend these mirrors without hesitation. 249730

I bought a 3rd tow mirror to replace one that fell off during our travels. That particular mirror kept sagging from the fixed position, so needed a lot of retightening. After one adjustment, I suddenly noticed it was missing! Simply slid off. (The driver's side mirror had NO problem with sagging, and didn't come off. (After the loss, I did keep checking the tightness every time I was out of the vehicle!) Aside from the loss, I am VERY happy with the mirrors. They function exactly as I had hoped. I found that the passenger-side mirror is not really missed on the Toyota Tundra. 379293

My experience with the CIPA mirrors has been spotty. The products are great, work really well, to a point. First, I lost one on the road, by not tightening it enough. I found that with my rig, a 26 pull-behind, the right -side mirror does little good. So most of my April 2017 trip was made with only the left side. I reordered a new mirror, and when installing them for my April 2018 trip, I OVER TIGHTENED the right side one, and broke one of the mounting clips. So again, I travelled with only the left side mirror. And again I ordered a new one. I am disappointed that CIPA does not make available the mounting clips for this unit. I now have a complete mirror unit except for one missing clip! I noticed that CIPA offers replacement parts for other units.

Used the mirrors last week on our Lexus GX460. I tightened them down very tight based on past reviews and didn’t have any problem. They were very stable, didn’t slip and gave fantastic adjustment and visibility. They are very well built and have rubber coated pads on the clamps so they don’t damage the paint on the vehicle mirrors. Once they are set they go back onto the vehicle with ease. Great product!! etrailer contact was great! They let me know when the order was shipped, gave me the tracking info and followed up. Best on line buying experience I have ever had. I am a customer for life. Same experience with the back up camera we just received. etrailer is 2 for 2!!! 445952

The mirrors work great! No issues at all. We tow with a Lexus GX460 and we had some concerns of damage to our vehicle side mirrors. We are happy to report that the trailer mirrors work perfect and we have never had any damage and we have never lost a mirror.

Did not find the item to be as sturdy or as durable as we had hoped. While driving down the road the entire mirror w/arm assemble disconnected from our truck and ended up in the middle of a median. We retrieved the item and did not trust using them again. We have since purchased a truck with automatic extendable mirrors. 785831

I have had two of these mirrors blow off during the drive when I am towing. I have clamped them down very securely, but they still blew off. One on the passenger's side and one on the driver's side. I wouldn't buy these again. 784817

I purchased this product in advance of renting a large toy hauler to take my family camping back in October. The package said it fits most vehicles including my Ford F-150. I followed the instructions and positioned the mirror with the brackets on top like the directions stated. However any vibration would have caused it to fall off as it did with little effort of my pulling on it. The good news is that if you mount this with the brackets on the bottom of your mirror it goes no where. I did not have to readjust, or retighten these mirrors once during our trip. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking to purchase this product. 728330

This product is expected to be used with my cab-less John Deere tractor to provide a rear view on those occasions when on the highway. I was looking to replace the old style strap-on towing mirrors I had been using, and thought these looked interesting. Ordered them and they arrived quickly and installed easily. I read some of the negative reviews. and attributed most to "operator error", and forged ahead. They attach easily and securely to my 2011 Ford Ranger's original mirrors, and I have really enjoyed having them. Give me a much better view of the road behind me and my trailer, and have survived several trips on secondary highways with speed up to 60mph. Only problem so far has been the occasional and rare semi I encounter on these roads which have, a couple of times created a wake turbulence strong enough to fold back the driver's side mirror. I just verbally abuse the trucker, roll down the window, and push the mirrors back to the locked position. The extension hangs on all the way and pops back out with the original mirror. No problem. Attach them correctly, firmly, and check often, and they perform as promised. Good product - Great service! Thanks, etrailer! 715060

  • Towing Mirrors for a 2016 Jeep Cherokee
There are only universal fit towing mirrors for the 2016 Jeep Cherokee and no custom fit options. So what I recommend is set # KS3990 which will fit stock side mirrors that have a gap or lip between the glass and mirror housing. I have linked a video featuring these mirrors for you.
