Video Transcript for CIPA Suction Cup Mount Rearview Boat Mirror Review

Zach: Hey, everybody. Zach here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at a rearview boat mirror from CIPA. This is going to be a suction cup mounted style, so we can put this on the glass of our windshield or if you have a nonporous surface on your boat, you can also attach it to that. What this is going to do is this is going to eliminate the need to turn around and look at your skiers and go back and forth. That's just not the safest setup, so this allows you to keep looking forward but also keep an eye on whoever you've got in the water back there, or just in general, just having better visibility in your surroundings.

I was wondering if this was going to hold up, and I've been moving this around quite a bit and it's doing a good job of holding in place. Now, you want to make sure you've got a nice clean surface. Now when it comes to the suction cup mount style versus the style that mount up onto the windshield frame, I like the versatility of getting that moved around and it gives me a little bit more height, because I'm a taller guy so I need to sit up a little bit higher, but I think it's going to hold up to those vibrations a little bit better than this style up here and it's not that you're not getting the same vibrations in the glass there. I just think that the mounting style is a little bit more secure and this just seems a little stiffer than some of those other ones I've tested out even from CIPA, so I think that this is still going to be a really good option. I think it's going to cut down on some of those vibrations that you're going to get out of those other styles. This one also has a lot more range of motion versus some of the others. You can see how much this pivots around.

I think that's really nice being able to have that flexibility. That way, you know you're already limited with where you can mount this, having a nice smooth surface. This helps you out in getting that proper vantage point that you're looking for.Now when we're talking about the size of this mirror, we are going to have a pretty good size mirror. This is going to be 8" by 4". This isn't the largest mirror that we offer, but I think this size is ideal for me.

Gives me really good visibility behind me, but it doesn't really block a lot of everything up front, so especially in this point right here. I'm kind of sitting up above the windshield, but I can easily look down and see this but I'm not really blocking much out front.First thing we need to do is we need to find a spot. I think I'm going to keep mine over here. I need to clean this off a little bit, give us a nice spot. We can do the whole window if you want.

I'm going to just do this spot for now. Then we can take our mirror. We can just press that in place. You can see it holds in place nicely. I'm adjusting this, and it's still holding on. This is maybe a little low, so I'll pull that little tab. I'm going to bring it up a little bit higher. That's a little bit better. Now this is, like we said earlier, this is the thing. You're kind of limited with the suction cup style, so this is maybe sitting a little low for my taste but if you had a windshield that was a little bit higher, I think this would still be good, or if you have a better spot somewhere where you can mount it to a different surface that's also an option as well. But overall, I think it's actually a pretty nice mirror. I was not thinking it was going to be that great with the suction cup style. Now, I've not tested this out out on the water in different conditions when it comes to heat or humidity, but so far it seems like it holds up pretty good. I like the adjustability, the size of it's really nice, and I think it's going to come in handy when you're out on the water, but that's going to do it for our look at the CIPA rearview boat mirror.

This mirror is a perfect fit for the windshield on my center console boat. I do not ski anymore but would be great for keeping an eye on the skier, tuber, or wake boarder. I use it to keep an eye on any boat traffic that may be behind me. It lends itself for many other applications such as on tractors, dozers, & other heavy equipment. Works great in my golf cart!!! 301290

Seems fine for occasional use when you dont have an observer. The mounting ball does neck down very thin so if your rough with it the casting may break. But for the money i think it will be ok. 210644

I'm not actually using this on a boat, but rather in an old Suburban. My rearview mirror kept falling off, so I decided to look for an alternative to constantly reglueing it on. I found these suction cup mirrors for boats and decided to try it out. I figured that even if it falls off at some point all I have to do is stick it back up and if it's strong enough to hold on a boat on the water, it should definitely be okay in a car. I have not had a chance to drive with it on yet, but it has been suctioned to the vehicle for a couple of days now and is still holding. It is quite a bit larger than a regular rear view mirror but on an old truck, it is hardly in the way and actually gives great visibility. 101169

i have the mirror mounted overhead. If the suction mount holds the mirror up over time this product will be a real winner. 67539

Comments
The suction mount was not able to hold the mirror when mounted overhead. In fact it frequently looses it grip on the boat when mounted upright on flat smooth fiberglass. Probably would be OK in a car.Michael

Just as described. Large suction cup adheres well to curved windshield on pontoon boat. Convex glass mirror provides good field of view for towing precious cargo on inflatables. 59024

Ask the Experts about this CIPA Boat Mirrors

  • Best Dash Mounted Rearview Boat Mirror
I do have an option for you to consider for a rear view mirror on your boat similar to the CIPA Comp Universal Rearview Boat Mirror part # CM02000 in the CIPA Rearview Boat Mirror part # CM11050. The CIPA Rearview Boat Mirror part # CM11050 is a bit smaller than the mirror you are referring to measuring only 8" in length and 4" wide whereas the CIPA part # CM02000 has dimensions of 13-1/2" in length by 6-1/2" wide. The CIPA part # CM11050 is our only compatible option that will allow...

  • Recommended Windshield Mount Rearview Mirror for 17 Foot Boston Whaler Montauk
The Cipa # CM11050 Rearview Boat mirror uses a glass lens. The suction cup mount would work on the windshield of your boat, but I'd recommend something that uses a more secure mount like the CIPA Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror # CM11080 because I'm not convinced that a suction cup mount would be the best long-term solution for you. The mounting clamp is compatible with windshield frames from 3/8 - 1-1/4 inches thick, so it'll work with most windshields. This mirror also utilizes shatter...

  • Back up Camera Recommendation to See Behind an Airstream Trailer
You can only extend mirrors out so far before they become a hazard. In this case the best solution would be a camera system. We have several camera systems available but I recommend the Swift Hitch, # 04928. The camera has a magnetic base or it can me attached with screws. It turns on by pushing the button on the camera so you do not have to have it wired into the trailer or vehicle wiring. It even has night vision. The battery life on this model is 4 hours before it will need a recharge....

  • Availability of Convex Drivers Side Mirror
For a convex mirror, your best bet would be to use an adjustable stick on hot spot mirror like part # 49304. We do not offer any slip on or replacement drivers side mirrors with a convex lens. Having a convex mirror on the drivers side would cause you to have a distorted view that would make objects seem closer than they really were, which could be dangerous.

  • What Size Frame Does CIPA Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror # CM11081 Fit
I spoke to my contact at CIPA and he said the Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror # CM11081 has an aluminum bracket that accommodates round or square windshield frames measuring from 1/2 inch to 7/8 of an inch. If that size is not an option for you, you may be interested in our Suction Cup Rearview Boat Mirror, # CM11050. This mirror does not require a specific size to fit and can be mounted anywhere on your boat that has a smooth, clean surface.
