When replacing gas shock on your vehicle or RV, you will want to make sure you are buying a replacement with the exact same extended length, compressed length, and pounds of force. This information is usually printed on the shock. Lengths are measured from the center of the ball joint used for mounting. If you are planning on installing gas shocks on something for the first time, identifying the shock you need requires fairly complex initial calculations, so be sure to do your research to avoid purchasing a shock that will not fit your application.

Video Transcript for Review of JR Products RV Door Parts - 26.32 Inch Long Gas Shock - 372-7145

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this replacement Gas Shock. This is going to replace one worn or damaged shock on your RV's entry door or storage doors. It provides 150 pounds of force to help resist closing, so you're not gonna have to worry about the door slamming shut, potentially damaging your luggage or gear or pinching fingers and that sort of thing. It's also going to help lift the latch or entry door open, so that gives you a little bit of assistance to make that a little bit easier for you. This is a ball and socket installation, so you can see here we've got a ball socket on each end, this is gonna fit right onto your 10 millimeter ball stud, will just snap right in place.

This is a black nitride construction, so it is gonna hold up really well for you. Our distance from the center of one ball socket to the center of the other, it's gonna be right at 26 3/8 of an inch. Now, I can't compress this to demonstrate the compressed length, but it is right about 15 3/4 of an inch long when it is compressed, approximate, but if you are needing to replace a worn or damaged shock for your RV's entry door or storage door, make sure that that extended length is gonna work for you, and that you need that 150 pounds of force, and if you do, this is gonna be a great option. That's gonna complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com.

Thanks for watching.

The selection process was easy to follow. I needed gas struts with a greater lift capacity for our under bed storage due to the addition of a memory foam mattress. I was able to select a strut pair with the proper length and extension from the website. The struts were received quickly and were exactly what I needed. The bed now raises gently and remains elevated.

by:

This strut did not fit precisely due to the thickness of the end connectors. They are thicker than the original strut and since the strut has to fit between the bottom of the door and the threshold in the closed position it would not allow the door to close. I found that by exchanging the end connectors with the original strut I was able to install the strut and close the door. The only problem with this solution is that the new strut with the old connectors is slightly longer than the old strut/connector assembly and now allows the door to open slightly farther than before. Our awning arm just barely clears the door when opening and closing so will have to be very careful from now on when extending and retracting the awning. Our motorhome is a Sunseeker 3010ds model in case this is helpful to others ordering this product.

by:

Item was exactly as advertised, easy installation, fits perfectly on our RV door. Our previous gas shock was worn out & would not hold the door open. This product is sturdy & stable. It fixed the issue.

by:

Exactly what I needed for my Kwik Kamp motorcycle trailer! It's nice to share information in our group when we find parts to use for our discontinued campers.

by:

Product is installed but instructions were a bit vague and difficult to implement(related to the removal of previous gas shock bar).

by:

Very fast delivery! I've ordered from e-trailer several times and service has always been great!

by:

The Stabilus shock holding the 22" door of our bumper pull trailer open was weak. Mild wind would push it shut. This shock fit right onto the existing ball joints. A small blade screwdriver pried the "c" clip back, allowing me to slip the socket over the ball, and the clip snapped into place. Maybe 30 seconds and the shock was installed.

The biggest challenge was determining what force I needed in the replacement. The existing shock had the model information scraped away where it rubbed on the door threshold. No where could I find on the etrailer site what force a small door shock should be. I ended up chatting with an RV service tech I know, who looked it up in his parts catalog. Turns out 10 lb force is standard except for large RV doors. I would suggest etrailer.com add this information on their online catalog. Maybe it's there and I couldn’t' find it? "Gas shock force needed for RV doors."

by:

When my package arrived it was beat up and one of the clips on the end of the shock was missing, not what I would give a good report !!

by:

This fit my 05 Bigfoot 9.6 camper door with about 3/8 compression left. This is the shock you want. It has a slow open feature and does not slam the door open possibly risking tearing the mounts off. So no worries about people who just open the door and head out. We used to have to coax the door open. Not you can let go of it. Love this shock!!

by:

These work great for toolbox lid

by:

Price is right and product fit and functioned well for my application on a Leer truck topper rear glass door

by:

Exactly what I needed delivered in a timely manner

by:

Just received and put on today. The gas shocks vey easy to replace. Doors on rv are open and staying open by the shocks. When the other door shock need replacement. I will be buying same product.

by:

Overall, I was satisfied with the process as well as as quality and condition of the door opener. I was fortunate that the opener fit correctly. There was some dissatisfaction that your web site offered little in the way of cross-reference data for a direct replacement with the existing opener on my trailer. Also, considering that the item was in stock, delivery took longer than I had anticipated.

by:

Great customer service and prompt delivery.
I haven't installed them yet but look to be the exact replacement part for the current ones in my camper.

by:

Excellent service. Definitely going to order from them again.

by:

All that I expected. Jaime did a great job helping me make sure that I ordered the proper parts. Thanks

by:

These shocks made my RV cabinet door stay up like new again!

by:

maybe after I have a chance to use it. It is what I ordered.

by:

It was just what l needed to hold up bed storage work great

by:

Fast delivery, Thanks

  • How to Determine Correct Gas Shock for Trailer Door
We have gas shocks for trailer doors, and I can tell you how to determine the correct one for your trailer, but wouldn't have any way of knowing the exact one you need. To determine the correct one though, all you have to do is measure you shock's retracted and extended length to ensure the correct one. For example, the Gas Shock # 372-2300-120 has a compressed length of 11.41" and an extended length of 20" with a strong 120 lbs of force. The Gas Shock # 372-7145, on the other hand, has...
