When replacing gas shock on your vehicle or RV, you will want to make sure you are buying a replacement with the exact same extended length, compressed length, and pounds of force. This information is usually printed on the shock. Lengths are measured from the center of the ball joint used for mounting. If you are planning on installing gas shocks on something for the first time, identifying the shock you need requires fairly complex initial calculations, so be sure to do your research to avoid purchasing a shock that will not fit your application.

Video Transcript for Review of JR Products RV Doors - 372-5150-20

Today, we're going to take a look at the JR product's 15-inch long gas shock. Now, this is a quick and easy replacement for any worn or broken gas shock you may have. This will replace a gas shock on multiple applications like your RV or trailer doors, storage compartment doors, truck, bed covers, or fold down camper beds. It is designed with the high-quality black nitride shaft and includes the plastic ends on each end with the locking clips to secure it to the mounting ball. The connection tight for this shock is a 10-millimeter ball socket and this does easily install in minutes. There's no special tools required, all you really need is a small flat head or flat tip screwdriver. And I'm going to zoom in here just to show you what you would end up doing to get the old one off.

What you'll do is take your screwdriver, put it under the clip, raise that clip up and that'll release it. And then you'll be able to pop it off the ball, do the same on this end, remove the old one to put the new one back on. What you'll do is again, raise that clip up, you don't want to remove the clip from the shock, you just want to raise it up enough so it releases the pressure on the ball. And then when you do that on both ends, all you have to do is pop that onto the ball, push that clip back down, and it'll lock it into place. Same on this end. Now, when you do install this, you want this inner rod facing down, and it's also recommended to replace these gas shocks in pairs.

The extended length on this, which is measured from the center of the socket to the center of this socket. It's going to be right at 15-inches. Let me go ahead and get a tape measure so it can measure that, so again, if we go center, there's your 15-inch measurement. The compressed length, when this is totally compressed to be 8.91-inches and the output for sudden shock is 20 pounds, but that should do it for the review on the JR product's 15-inch long gas shock.

gas struts worked great. right size and easy to replace.

by:

Product matched the original gas shock - 100%.

Great communication.

parts fit & worked perfect

This strut did not fit precisely due to the thickness of the end connectors. They are thicker than the original strut and since the strut has to fit between the bottom of the door and the threshold in the closed position it would not allow the door to close. I found that by exchanging the end connectors with the original strut I was able to install the strut and close the door. The only problem with this solution is that the new strut with the old connectors is slightly longer than the old strut/connector assembly and now allows the door to open slightly farther than before. Our awning arm just barely clears the door when opening and closing so will have to be very careful from now on when extending and retracting the awning. Our motorhome is a Sunseeker 3010ds model in case this is helpful to others ordering this product.

by:

Item was exactly as advertised, easy installation, fits perfectly on our RV door. Our previous gas shock was worn out & would not hold the door open. This product is sturdy & stable. It fixed the issue.

by:

Exactly what I needed for my Kwik Kamp motorcycle trailer! It's nice to share information in our group when we find parts to use for our discontinued campers.

by:

This fit my 05 Bigfoot 9.6 camper door with about 3/8 compression left. This is the shock you want. It has a slow open feature and does not slam the door open possibly risking tearing the mounts off. So no worries about people who just open the door and head out. We used to have to coax the door open. Not you can let go of it. Love this shock!!

by:

The Stabilus shock holding the 22" door of our bumper pull trailer open was weak. Mild wind would push it shut. This shock fit right onto the existing ball joints. A small blade screwdriver pried the "c" clip back, allowing me to slip the socket over the ball, and the clip snapped into place. Maybe 30 seconds and the shock was installed.

The biggest challenge was determining what force I needed in the replacement. The existing shock had the model information scraped away where it rubbed on the door threshold. No where could I find on the etrailer site what force a small door shock should be. I ended up chatting with an RV service tech I know, who looked it up in his parts catalog. Turns out 10 lb force is standard except for large RV doors. I would suggest etrailer.com add this information on their online catalog. Maybe it's there and I couldn’t' find it? "Gas shock force needed for RV doors."

by:

Price is right and product fit and functioned well for my application on a Leer truck topper rear glass door

by:

Overall, I was satisfied with the process as well as as quality and condition of the door opener. I was fortunate that the opener fit correctly. There was some dissatisfaction that your web site offered little in the way of cross-reference data for a direct replacement with the existing opener on my trailer. Also, considering that the item was in stock, delivery took longer than I had anticipated.

by:

Just received and put on today. The gas shocks vey easy to replace. Doors on rv are open and staying open by the shocks. When the other door shock need replacement. I will be buying same product.

by:

Great customer service and prompt delivery.
I haven't installed them yet but look to be the exact replacement part for the current ones in my camper.

by:

We use these on our tool boxes and they work great.

by:

These shocks made my RV cabinet door stay up like new again!

by:

Great staff and knowledgeable about evey product I’ve purchased

by:

It was just what l needed to hold up bed storage work great

by:

Didn't work, until I realized the post couplings would screw off the OEM and screw on this new unit. Door wouldn't shut until I changed out this hardware. Now it is perfect! The couplings that come with the unit were too large for my door. All good now, perfect fit. 2020 Thor Citation 24ST.

by:

It didn't fit the camper door swivel pin properly. Head of hinge too big so door wouldn't shut. Went back to Lakota Horse trailer and ordered the part. I don't believe you had stock that would have worked. Thanks for asking.

by:

Worked as advertised. Easy installation. Used on an under-bed storage box in my RV.

by:

Placed my order on a Monday and received it on Wednesday. Live chat helped me find the correct Gas Shock. It was a perfect match!!

by:

As described

by:

Nice product

by:

Exactly what I was looking for. A perfect replacement for the one that wore out.
