The Gate King adjustable truck bed extender is incredibly simple to operate. Simply lower your tailgate, engage the pins on each bar, and lift to your desired angle. As you lift, you'll hear an audible click when your tailgate locks in at each increment.
Once you lift your tailgate completely to close it, the pins will return to the open position. This will let you use your tailgate normally. However, if the tailgate is locked at the tightest angle and unable to close due to a tonneau cover or camper shell, the included tool lets you to release the pins and open the tailgate. This tool also is helpful for other situations where you can't easily release the pins by hand.

Shane: Hey everyone. Shane here with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at the Gate King tailgate adjuster. Now if you're like me, you use your truck for a lot of different things. For instance, carrying loads where it sticks out past the tailgate, you have to have your tailgate down all the time. I've actually lost some loose items when carrying something like this.
I've lost some loose items from the back of my truck, going down the highway. Well, there's a solution and that is the tailgate adjuster. It is going to allow you to adjust your tailgate in different positions, to help keep those items in the bed of your truck, keep you from losing them.As you can see here, this is going to work great for our longer loads. We're able to raise our tailgate up, kind of get our ladder up in the air rather than being flat, potentially, maybe losing our ladder or anything else. This is also going to work great for your ATVs and your dirt bikes.
You can use your tailgate as a wheel chock. So a lot of times when you put your dirt bike inside, the tire is going to stick out past the end of your bed just a little bit. You'd take your tailgate with the adjustment on it, lock it up against your back tire and it's going to keep your dirt bike from, or four wheeler for that matter, from moving forward and backward in the bed of your truck while you're traveling.Another nice thing that I really like about this, is you can see with our tailgate up, our ladder in place, maybe you have surf boards, are going to work basically the same way as we have our ladder here, you raise the tailgate up. Another thing that I really like about this set up is we're still able to use our tonneau cover. This being able to use our tonneau cover like this is going to help secure, or better secure our items up there towards the cab of the truck, even with our tailgate partially open.
As I mentioned, we're going to have eight different locking positions.Here we have our tailgate all the way open, locked from our lowest position, all the way up to close. The nice thing about it is when we close it all the way, this tab here is going to push this lever and lock it into the open position. That way we can use our tailgate normally, without it locking on us. Each one is going to be constructed of stainless steel. It's going to come with the hardware to get it mounted in place.
And it's going to use the existing holes that our factory cables we're installed in.These are going to work with multi-function tailgates, like you see on a lot of the newer trucks. What I do suggest is make sure you use the fit guide. Make sure you're getting the correct ones for your vehicle. One thing I do want to stress is being able to use your tailgate like this, is not to secure your loads. You want to make sure you're strapping anything down you put it in the bed of your truck. Also, anything you may have pushing down on your tailgate, you want to make sure you're not going to exceed the tailgate's weight inaudible 00:02:45 here. So just make sure you check your manufacturer's recommendations on that.In my professional opinion, I really like how these work. I like being able to use it in different positions to secure different size loads in here. I really think it's going to come in handy for your dirt bike riders and four-wheelers, or individuals that ride four wheelers that have them in the back of their truck, to use this as an extra wheel chock, when they're hauling their bikes and their four wheelers around.Now, if you'll notice how tight our tailgate is here, it might be kind of hard to reach in and get that unlocked. Well, they give you a key. You simply take the open end and put it over top of the rod, take the weight off the tailgate, push it back, lock it into place. And you want to make sure you do this on both sides. Another thing I really like about them, is how easy they are to install. 10, 15 minutes, you can probably have both of them installed and you're ready to go. I have been using the King Gate hinges for a year and they work great and remain in good condition. We pull a camper and load a side by side in the bed. The extenders allow for the tailgate to close enough so it does not interfere with driving or backing up the trailer. The hold the weight of the machine for loading and unloading. I am glad I bought these they have been a game changer.
It's expensive for hinges, but they work great. Have utilized them a lot. It really helps when you have a tonneau cover but still want something to hang out like pvc pipe but do not want to open the cover.
For the price I expected less slop in the action as it opens, slaps against the tailgate. However, once extended or locked it is good. Remember to also use the spacer from your original cables (2019 Silverado) you will need them on the top bolts. The retaining clips (spring steel) were not tight enough so every third or forth closing/opening the ratchet would engage on one of the support bars. Simply squeezed them both with pliers to create a firmer fit. See one of the photos submitted showing the clip.

Will hold the tailgate up so I can pull my camper with my four wheeler in the back.
I do not recommend this product for a Toyota Tundra 2014 to 2021. I have a 2016 Tundra and did not work. Bad customer service when trying to return the part. They didn’t answer my calls or emails. They had me send pictures multiple times of how the part fitted my tailgate. Took 2 weeks to get a response for a RA number.
Works well. I needed these because having a contractor cap with side boxes, there was no room to carry sheets of plywood between the toolboxes and top of tailgate.
Poor fit and finish. Product does not fit properly. Tried to return initially but too expensive for postage to return.
After one year the locking mechanisms don't automatically lock. I have to manually push the bar to lock it . I've tried a couple of different lubricant. None worked. The spring doesn't seam strong enough. Also the tab that pushes the locking arm into the open position when closing the tailgate came off .
Got it today and already installed. Will make a difference when carrying my UTV in the truck bed.
This is made to a very high standard. It performed like it was standard equipment on our truck. As soon as we installed it, we went to the hardware store and purchased lumber for a project. Worked excellent. It held the lumber up against the tanno cover. Didn't even need to tie the load down. Excellent product. Next I'll load my motorcycle in my truck and see how good it holds up. Can't wait
Easy install on my 2018 Chevy Crewcab. Had to use 1 extra washer per screw to make it just right.

Received my order two days early! I immediately installed the Gate King and tested. Only took 10 minutes. Seems nice with a lit of adjustment. I will be hauling our golf cart while towing our travel trailer and this us tge perfect product to secure the tailgate.
This product works great. I'm able to adjust my tailgate to help me haul lumber or anything large in my short bed truck. Because it's easy to use, simple to install and heavy-duty, I would recommend this product to anyone needing more versatility out of their truck bed.
This is a very good product, however it’s way too expensive for the pair I can’t recommend it because of the cost. In my opinion it’s at least double the cost of what it should be.
