Video Transcript for Thule TracRac Universal Steel Rac Truck Bed Ladder Rack Review

Speaker 1: Today we are looking at the TracRac Universal Steel Rac truck bed ladder rack with over-the-cab extension. The built-in over-the-cab extension provides additional support for extra long loads. Now that we have our ladder in place, show you a few nice features about this. Plenty of places to wrap our strap around. This is just a generic cam-buckle strap. You can strap to pretty much any point on here and it's going to give you a nice solid, sturdy place to strap. So as you can see down here, we have our welded on cleats. That's great for ratchet straps. Threw a ratchet strap over the top onto our other cleat, and to tie off my slack just so it's not waving in the wind I wrapped it around our nice crossbar here.

That way our ladder keeps from jumping up and down as well. When installing, this fits most full-sized truck beds. This bar, if you loosen up these four bolts can move back and forth. Obviously you have to do this side and the other side. Get a partner and move them at the same time, but it fits beds from five feet to eight feet long. With a sturdy construction, this does hold up to 1,000 pounds. Also a nice feature is this is a removable rear bar in case we need to walk around in the bed of our truck or if we're going to carry something like a refrigerator.

Just pull these two pins out, and our bar removes. It's nice and easy. This is the sturdiest that I've seen as far as these removable bars. There's some other kinds that swivel out all the way, and I just don't trust 'em as much, but this is a nice sturdy configuration.Put it back in place. Move it around until your holes line up.

Slide your pin through, then reinsert our retaining clip. Again, just line up the holes. We swing our retaining clips up into place and it won't go anywhere. Another nice feature of this ladder rack is it's got these grips, makes it easy to get in and out of our vehicle. Our load height, it's going to sit about 30 inches, and this is the bar that our load is going to sit at. Our crossbars are in line with this, but then we also have our top rail, and that gives us about five inches of height.

That's for side-to-side action, if you have a ladder on there it's not going to slide off sideways. We have four of these mounting plates. They do curve over to the inside of the bed and our clamps clamp on the inside of the bed. That does prevent us from using certain accessories. These clamps do make it nice because it just clamps it in place. That way we don't have to drill into our bedrail. Now that we've looked at all the features, we'll show you how it's installed.Right, now that we have it loosely put together, I'm going to grab a couple of friends. We're going to go ahead and put it on the truck. All right. Now that we have our ladder rack in place, we've got all our clamps set up, I'll show you how our last one goes together and gets put on the truck. So we've got our metal bracket and we've got our allen screw. This is an 8MM allen. Just start threading it in. I want to have a little bit of a lip on there, because we take our aluminum brace here and just set it on top. So I'll hook that underneath our bedrail and slide it into place. I'm going to tighten it by hand until it's snug, and then tighten it up with my wrench. Now we do have two clamps per post. We want to make sure that we slide our front clamp as far forward as we can. I don't know if you can see here. We've got a big brace that sticks out, so this is as far forward as I can get, but still it gives us a lot of stability and it's not going to go anywhere. Then our second clamp we want to put as far back on our brace as possible. That'll give us the most stability out of each mount. We're going to go ahead and tighten all our bolts down. We need to make sure that the angle of this and this support are about the same. You don't need to get it measured out, I just look at how it fits on the glass. If I look at it, it almost lines up with the angle of our glass here, and then I looked at the other side. It's pretty much the same, so I'm going to go ahead and tighten it down. I'm using my 8MM allen and a 14MM or 9/16 wrench. Tightening down this top one allows me to still pivot the bottom one, so if I need to I can push it as I'm tightening it.Now that we've gotten our base tightened down, we still have a little bit of wiggle so I'm going to go ahead and tighten these down as well. All these bolts and nuts are going to be the 8MM or the 14MM wrench. All right. Now I'm just going to repeat this process on the other side.So for our bottom mount, we're going to do the same thing as the front mounts. Want to make sure that our bars here are at the same angle. Again, what I did is I stood behind the truck, I looked at the truck and see how it looks against something on the vehicle. These pretty much line up with the side of my vehicle as far as that angle goes. So I've gotten those tightened down already. Now, when I do these two up top, I want to make sure that I have enough looseness in here that I can still take out these two pins, 'cause if you tighten it down wrong it's going to be a pain in the butt to get these out. Then we just want to check to make sure our pin still comes out and our bar still comes out.So now that we've gotten this side tightened down, we're going to go ahead and repeat the process on our passenger side. Then I'll go around and I'll get all our mounts all the way around the top of our vehicle. Just make sure everything is snugged down and we're good to go.That's our look at the TracRac Universal Steel Rac truck bed ladder rack with overhead cab extension.

  • Will TracRac Universal Steel Rac Ladder Rack w/ Extension Fit My 2012 Nissan Frontier With 5 Ft Bed
  • The TracRac Universal Steel Rac Truck Bed Ladder Rack with Over-the-Cab Extension, # TH91000, is an adjustable unit to fit most vehicles. Universal means that it will fit many vehicles, not that it will fit every vehicle. For your 2012 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab with 5 Foot Bed with Utili-Track system, I contacted the manufacturer because it was not a confirmed fit on our end or on the manufacturer's website. They told me it will fit if you remove the Utili-Track System, but it will not...

  • Recommended Ladder Rack with Cab Extension for 2018 Ford F-250
  • The Thule TracRac TracONE Truck Bed Ladder Rack # TH27000XTB is confirmed to fit your 2018 Ford F-250 and will work well. With that being said, when this particular ladder rack is installed on your Ford F-250, there is very little clearance between the crossbars and the truck cab. Because of this, I do not recommend adding the Cantilever Extension # TH24001XT as it's very possible that it will make contact with the roof of the cab, especially if any weight were put on it. If you are...

  • Can TracRac TracONE Truck Bed Ladder Rack Be Installed With Truck Bed Toolbox Installed
  • The bottom base for the TracRac TracONE Truck Bed Ladder Rack, part # TH91000 requires access to the area of the bed rail that is covered by your tool box in your photo. I have attached a photo that shows where the base is attached on a truck. As the arrows in the photo indicate, you would not be able to attach the base for the ladder rack with a tool box installed.

  • Ladder Rack Recommendation for 2017 F250 Long Bed With Easily Removable Rear Bar
  • I have a great ladder rack solution for your 2017 Ford F-250 long bed that will allow you to easily remove the rear bar when you want to load or unload the motorcycle. For that you'd want the Thule TracRac SR Sliding Ladder Rack with extension # TH43003XT-000EX for if you want an over cab extension or part # TH43003XT-000 for just the two standard uprights. The rear bar of the TracRac # TH91000 is not easily removable so it would not be your ideal solution.

  • Recommended Ladder Rack For 2015 Ford F-250 To Clear Cab With Sunroof
  • The TracRac TracONE Truck Bed Ladder Rack, part # TH91000, which has a load rating of 800 lbs is 26-1/4 inches tall to the top of the crossbar from the top of the bed rail. The load stops are 3 inches tall giving you a total height of 29-1/4 inches. The closest to the 29-1/4 inches you said you need is the T-Rac Pro2 Truck Bed Ladder Rack, part # TH37003XT. This has a height of 29-1/8 from the bed rail to the top of the crossbar. This rack has a carrying capacity of 1,000 lbs. I recommend...

  • You would not be able to install a tonneau cover if TracRac ladder rack # TH91000 is installed because its brackets fit around on the inside of the bed sides and would interfere with a tonneau cover. You would need a ladder rack that mounts in the stake pockets on the tops of the bed sides such as # TH43003XT-501EX for a short bed 2012 Ram 1500 or # TH43003XT-000EX for a long bed model. • I spoke with my contact at TracRac about a truck bed ladder rack for your 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck. The TracONE, part # TH91000 is unfortunately not a fit for your truck. The rack that I recommend for your truck is the TracRac Pro2 Truck Bed Ladder Rack, part # TH37003XT. This rack will work whether you have the 8 foot bed or the 6-1/2 ft bed.
