Cinch-Lock Technology

Cinch-Lock clamp features

No more fighting with too-tight, spring-loaded cable clamps. The Hopkins Cinch-Lock clamps ratchet in place on the battery posts for a secure grip that is simple to obtain. Just squeeze the rubber-coated, non-slip grips, and the clamps will ratchet down until they can ratchet no more, at which point they effectively lock in place. To unlock, just push the convenient easy-release button at the base of the grips, and the ratchet will give for quick, effortless removal.

These unique Cinch-Lock clamps are constructed of premium, zinc-plated steel that can withstand more than 200 lbs of bite force and provide 250 percent more clamping force than the competition.

How to Jump-Start Your Vehicle's Battery:

Before jump-starting your vehicle, check the dead battery to make sure that it isn't cracked or frozen. If it is, do not attempt a jump-start. If there is no obvious damage to the battery, continue with the following:

  1. Turn off the vehicle that is providing the jump. Unplug all accessories from both vehicles. This will ensure that no devices are damaged if a short occurs.
  2. Clean off any corrosion around the battery terminals so that the maximum amount of current can travel through them.
  3. Connect one of the orange, positive cable clamps to the positive terminal on the dead battery.
  4. Connect the other orange clamp to the positive terminal on the good battery.
  5. Connect one of the black, negative cable clamps to the negative terminal on the good battery.
  6. Ground the other black clamp on the the vehicle in need of a jump - attach it to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the engine block or frame. Do not attach the negative clamp to the negative terminal of the dead battery.
  7. Start the vehicle that is providing the jump and let it run for a few minutes.
  8. Try to start the dead vehicle. If the engine does not turn over, rev the engine of the good vehicle to boost power output.
  9. Remove the clamps in the reverse of the order in which you attached them, being careful not to touch the clamps together as you do so: Disconnect the negative from the engine block or frame, then the negative from the good battery. Disconnect the positive from the good battery, then the other positive from the bad battery.

Video Transcript for Hopkins Super-Duty Jumper Cables w/ Cinch-Lock Clamps Review

Today we're going to review the Hopkins Super-Duty Jumper Cables, part number HMBC0825. We'll go ahead and cover some of the basics in this cable it's pretty simple. You have color coordinated, for negative side in black, and positive side is going to be orange. The whole assemble itself it's going to be 12' long overall, and the cables themselves are 8 gauge material. Thick enough for a variety of applications. Now the gauges cable are typically used with mid-size cars, and small trucks, and SUVs. This would be a good piece of equipment to keep in the back of your vehicle if you ever need it.

One of the finer details is a rationing mechanism on the inside, right now it's clamped shut you can't open it. Push down this button on the top here, and it pops open, then squeeze it you can hear it ratchet 00:00:50, you can see also the teeth down here. It's at a half way down, you can see how it gets a good grip on your battery terminals, and then push down on this button here to release it. Also a handy label to match up the symbols on your battery to the cables. You've got a negative sign match it to the negative terminal in your battery, and on the positive side the plus sign. Both ends of the cable have a cinch-lock clamps, go ahead and take a look at the construction on the inside of the jaws.

Let's open it up, the steel jaws are zinc coated and on the inside you can see the copper wiring. It has a mechanical rivet connecting the two together. Now on the outside cover of the clamps, it's going to have a rubberized coating on it, so you get a good grip on it as you clamp it down on your battery. At this point, let's go ahead and try it out, we'll go ahead and jump start a car. One last little detail is that the booster cables do not come with any type of storage bag, yes you could probably re-use the box, or may I suggest part number ETBMB the etrailer.com Ball Mount Bag. Designed to hold a ball mount, but should be more than enough to hold our cables.

I think what we'll do to give you an idea, is we're going to just clamp our cable links together, keep it compact as possible, put them in and we'll just fold our cables in afterwards. Not too bad of a fit, doesn't take up too much space in the back of your car or truck. Our green car is going to be our dead battery, and we will have a truck that'll be our good battery. Go ahead and make sure that your terminals are nice and clean, we don't have worry about that in this case. Take your orange cable connect that to positive side, go ahead and squeeze it down until you get a good bite on it. Next I will connect it to our positive terminal on our good battery, now we can go ahead and connect to the negative side of our good battery.

On our car with the bad battery, we're going to take our ground and run it directly to the engine block or the frame, not to the negative terminal on the car. Have a variety of locations that you can put this on, wherever is most convenient and try that out first. We have a stud coming off the exhaust which goes into the block, so that might work pretty good. Maybe one of the accessories on the engine, you can use this as a ground as well, it just depends on your car. One thing to note, while we're hooking up our inaudible 00:04:25 booster cables is that we had our good battery, the engine's not running. Also our bad battery and our good battery are as far a part as possible on the cars, so that it gives you a good idea how much length we have with the cable. The vehicle with the good battery, we'll go ahead and turn it on, then we'll go ahead and start the car with the bad battery. Once the vehicle has started, we'll go ahead and remove the booster cables, basically in reverse order. inaudible 00:04:58 for review of the Hopkins Super-Duty Jumper Cables, part number HMBC0825. .

Pretty unsatisfied with the design of this product - the clamps require two hands to hold the locking button down (right next to the metal teeth) while opening the clamps. Then, the clamps don't open wide enough to sit firmly on the battery contacts. The cables seems to be heavy duty and of good quality, but the locking design is poor. 585355

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring on 2004 Chrysler Pacifica
  • The easiest way to test your 4-pole wiring on the trailer side is to directly apply 12V power from a battery like the one in your vehicle or a charged spare if you have one. This can be done easily with a set of jumper cables like # HMBC0825 and two short lengths of wire. Connect the negative cable clamp to one piece of wire and the positive to the other. Apply the negative wire to the trailer connector ground pin and then attach the other end of the cables to the battery terminals....
