Video Transcript for Review of MaxxTow Hitch Pins and Clips - Oversize Handle Hitch Pin - MT70053

Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at e-trailer.com and today we're taking a look at the MaxxTow hitch pin and clip. This is going to be an oversized pin to help you get that pin installed into your hitch and accessory to make sure that everything's nice and stable. It comes with a clip to secure that at the other side, so it should be able to hold our accessory in place, whether that's a cargo carrier or maybe a bike rack or any other hitch mounted accessory. Now, this does have a 5/8" diameter so it's going to work for any of your 2" hitches, usually your class 3 and 4 hitches, pretty common out there. The one thing that might be an issue for you is the overall length of this pin.

It is a little bit longer since it has that handle. We'll go over some of those measurements in just a minute. But as far as what the pin is made out of, it does have a heat-treated steel construction. So it's going to be very strong and durable, able to handle our accessories with this. It is not really rated for towing, so I'm not sure that this would be something that's intended for towing with it. It's more for an accessory like a cargo carrier or a bike rack and something like that, since it doesn't have an overall weight rating.

It does have a nice vinyl dipped handle. So it's going to make it easy to grip, even in cold conditions so you shouldn't have to worry about that, freezing your hand off when you're going to go to grab it and pull it out or put it into the hitch pin hole. Goes over the cap, and then we'll also have a black powder coat on the pin itself. So that should resist any kind of rust and corrosion over time, it shouldn't have any issues with getting rested out, so it should last for quite a while for you.Now to get this installed, my setup here, so you can get an idea of how that looks whenever it's in place, push that through, and then we've got our clip on the other side. Now, as you might notice, there is a lot of room on either side.

Of course, this is just kind of a little mock-up to give you an idea of what that looks like installed in your hitch. So this isn't going to do much for you as far as an anti-rattle device. This is just going to be there to hold your accessory in place. I don't have a bottom mount here, this is just for demonstration purposes. Again, I don't really think that this pin is intended for towing use.

Pull that out, just some measurements real quick. Talk about the overall size.So with the handle, the total length is just about 7 1/8", so a fairly long handle for it. The handle portion on its own, it's about 1 1/2" long from the end here to the center of that handle. The usable portion of our pin, so going from where that vinyl coating is to just in front of where the clip goes in, that's about 4 1/2", so that you'll have 4 1/2" of span or usable space there. Again, pin diameters would be 5/8", standard for your 2" hitches. The length of the handle going side to side is going to be 3 1/4" maybe 3 3/8". The inside space is going to be about 2 5/8". So it's big enough that I can get most of my hand in place there. It is a little bit tight whenever I close my fist, but definitely enough that you can get a couple figure widths in there to pull that handle out and make it a little bit easier. Clip, just your standard hitch pin clip, nothing really special about that. If you wanted to length on that, just for fun, that's going to be about 3" long.It does have a 90 day warranty, should last for a while though with that coating and the powder coat. But if you have any clearance issues, this might not be the best option for you. We do have other hitch pin and clips that are a little bit shorter. They usually just have kind of a curved handle at the end, which gives you a place to grab onto it. No coating, so it doesn't really do anything for you as far as resistance to cold. Whenever you go to grab it, it's solely cold in your hand, but might be a little bit better for those close quarters applications. Some hitches, especially if they're kind of recessed into the bumper or kind of hidden underneath, they can have a little bit more space and clearance issues, so just something to keep in mind there. But that's going to do it for our look at the MaxxTow hitch pin and clip with oversize grip. I hope this video has been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right option for you. If not, again, we do have a lot of options available here at e-trailer.com. So I highly suggest to check them out. Thanks for watching.

This was an easy installation on the back of our 5th wheel camper. I use this for mounting my 1up brand bicycle carrier to the rear bumper. I haul two ebikes so the weight being carried is in the 80-90 pounds and have not had any problems.

by:

Perfect match for my 2020 Volvo XC40. Fits snug and close to bumper. Installation was a bit difficult but instructions and video straight forward. Will definitely order again from etrailer for my next vehicle.

by:

Nice pin. Use the handle to attach my breakaway cable.

by:

Nice pin. Long enough to do the job rig ht

by:

Exactly what was needed order the wrong one first time made a call problem was resolved and a replacement sent out the next day.
First class customer service could not ask any more .
Will definitely use again!!

by:

Just did ~500miles with about 5k worth of car plus trailer over hill and dale.

Works great. No detectable wobbling, but pins are easy to get through holes (not too tight or misaligned). Heavy, but not like, completely unwieldy.

by:

Simple product but sturdy and well-made. The oversized grip can be used with a gloved hand and its highly visible red paint is rubberized, with a secure, comfortable grip.

by:

Great quality and fast shipping

by:

Perfect, both exactly what I expected from your excellent website description! Prompt shipment, received quickly, in perfect packaging, excellent fit, finish and function! etrailer excellent vendor! Installation exceptionally easy compared to the former locking pin I had been using which failed to latch and allowed my hitch/ball to fall off while towing a loaded trailer, fortunately at a light just before I was about to get on a high traffic expressway around Atlanta! Thanks for your obvious personal attention to my order and great customer service! I will definitely purchase from etrailer again and again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by:

was red handle when it came; does the job; not sure if i missed something on color selection. This part is not rated class 5 or otherwise but i think it has to be of class 5 caliber but it's a 5/8th inch solid diameter steel pin and one of few sold, so went with it and think it CANNOT be a weak link in the hitch chain. do proper torques and ratings, be safe. i'm a newbie so contacts with The Hitch Man are good. They are propertly torqueing down the 8 hitch bolts and 450 ft-pds on the separate tow ball for 50 bucks.

by:

The hitch pin has a nice size grip which makes it easier to get in and out and looks like good material. Thanks Etrailer!!

I ordered 2 hitch adapters (sleeves) an a hitch pin from etrailer over the phone because I could not find mine and I wanted to get these shipped quickly before I left on my hunting trip a few days later. I called late in the day, about an hour before closing, but Cathy still worked magic and got my shipment put together and on the truck that night! My items arrived a couple of hours before I planned to leave. Cathy saved the beginning of my trip!

For the review of the 2 square pieces of metal tubing --- they worked great :-). This review is for the outstanding customer service I've experienced each time I've ordered anything from etrailer.com, but especially this time from Cathy.

This has been the pin for my plow for the past year. After the handle was bent down in the first few weeks it has been excellent. The handle.did not break off and I remove it multiple time a day. Excellent Pin.

Really like this pin makes it alot easier when swapping ball mount hitches....

by:

The shank on the extendable step just barely clears the top of our truck tailgate when the tailgate is lowered and the shank is installed at the maximum length. I would prefer a shank 4 inches or so longer.

by:

This pin works great. I use it every weekend when I take the bike rack to the trails. I recommend this high quality product without any hesitation.

I purchased the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter (C45785), the Hitch Pin 1/2" x 3 1/2 (12H), and the MaxxTow Hitch Pin and Clip with Oversize Grip - 2" Hitches - 5/8" Diameter - 3-5/8" Long (MT70053).
They arrived earlier then expected and work perfectly! The quality is better then I expected. Thank You!!!

by:

Purchased a weight distribution kit and it was shipped and delivered within a couple days. Customer Service was excellent and their products are of good quality. I really like their website as they carry a lot of useful products. I have and will continue to recommend etrailer.

by:

No hassle and it's as easy to install as they teach in videos. I'm a mechanic by trade but am always scared to mess with electrical, yet the wiring harness made it to just plug and play.

by:

I beefed up my hitch by welding 1/4" steel on each side. I needed an extended hitch pin. This is great, quality and inexpensive I think.

by:

I had a back ordered item that eventually came along with some other items I ordered at the same time. I’m not good about waiting but the wait was worth it as the entire order came a couple days ago and I immediately started using the items. Thanks for getting it right.

by:

I used this to attach a cargo basket to my hitch. It fit perfectly and was indeed yellow as indicated in the photo.

by:

Just received the MaxxTow Hitch Pin and tested it out...it fits great and is easy to, even for me, install and remove!

by:

Depends on the model of truck you have to use this as your receiver pin. Some on my trucks have just enough room for the handle and is a pain. The old boys like it though.

by:

Good quality and will do as it is intended to do. I like the handle.

  • Can a Thule Bike Rack Be Used in a 2 1/2 inch Hitch?
The 2 1/2 inch hitches will actually use a 5/8 inch pin like a 2 inch hitch will. With that being said, I am not aware of any SUVs that come with a 2 1/2 inch receiver hitch. Just to make sure, when verifying the size of a hitch, you do so by measuring the inside of the hitch where a bike rack would be inserted. If you do indeed have a 2 1/2 inch receiver opening, the correct pin will depend on if your Thule rack has a threaded pin and if it has a 1 1/4 to 2 inch adapter. If you have the...

We do have an option for a 3-ball mount that fits 3 inch trailer hitch receivers like you have on your 2021 Ford F-250 Super Duty. • What Material are Hitch Pins Made of?
A 5/8" diameter hitch pin is usually made of steel, though some have coatings applied to help resist corrosion. For example, the Master Lock Pivot Lock Hitch Pin for 2" Hitches # ML1465DAT is made of stainless steel, but there is also a version - the Master Lock Pivot Lock Hitch Pin for 2" Hitches # ML1495DAT - which is a chrome-plated steel hitch pin with a chrome-plated aluminum barrel. Another example would be the MaxxTow Hitch Pin and Clip for 2" Hitches # MT70053 which is made of...

  • Recommended Hitch Reducers and Hitch Pins for Class III Hitch
I'd be happy to assist you with that. The Curt # C45408 is a set of two reducers, one to convert a 3 down to a 2-1/2 inch hitch, and another that will reduce the 2-1/2 reducer down to a 2 inch. Both reducers can be used together as shown in the linked video. For a locking hitch pin, your best bet would be using the locking Weigh Safe # WS05. For a non-locking pin that uses a clip to secure it, use # MT70053.

The Roadmaster Anti-Rattle Hitch Extender for Tow Bars # RM-071-1075 does come with an anti-rattle bolt, so if that's the extender you have, it should have come with the bolt, and the correct replacement is the one you mentioned, the Replacement Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Bolt and Clip for Roadmaster Hitch Extender # RM45FR.
