Video Transcript for Curt 2 inch Trailer Hitch Pin and Clip Review

Dustin: Hey there hitch owners, Dustin here at etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at Curt's standard 5/8ths hitch pin and clip for Class III, IV and V receivers. This pin and clip is as basic as it gets, very easy to use. It's a solid steel construction with a zinc plating to resist rust and corrosion. It's going to be great for all of your pin and clip needs in your 2"x2" receivers. Simply slide it in. Secure it on the other side with the included clip. One thing I like about this over some other designs is the open slot versus the design with the hole that passes through the pin.

The hole, you kind of have to line it up and get it in there. This way, no matter what angle you come at it you're able to secure it. It's pretty cool. While this is your basic pin and clip, Curt does have some other options. There is a nearly identical version available with a longer usable span, so if you've got clearance issues or you're using a larger hitch, like a 2-1/2" hitch, then that's going to be the option for you. There's also an option available from Curt that has a rubberized coating on the pin and on the clip, and that's just going to make it a little easier to grip. When it comes to what it's good for, well just about anything that you can put in a 2" hitch that needs a pin and clip, this is your solution right here.

Some devices use an anti-rattle bolt. In that instance obviously you'll want to use the anti-rattle bolt, but for your ball mounts, your bike racks, your cargo carriers, a wench plate, all sorts of different options that you can use this with. That completes our look at Curt's standard 5/8ths pin and clip.

I use this Curt hitch pin and clip when I'm using the receiver plug-even though I COULD use it with my hitch. Being an expensive hitch, I like RH5-XL when it's on my truck. The Curt is better than plain hitch pins because of the rubber on both the pin and the clip, which gives a better grip when it's cold or wet. Etrailer, as usual, got it to me fast, and the price was right. Also, I like that the clip goes through the pin instead of into a slot, making it somewhat harder for the clip to fall out or spread the legs of the clip over time-at least I think so.

Still working like a champ. No rust, a little wear on the pin, but it still works like day 1.

I purchased a trailer hitch, ball mount, pin, and wiring set for my 2006 Toyota Tacoma. They were delivered promptly and in good order. With the help of the online videos, as well as the informative written directions, I completed the installation of all items in less than an afternoon and everything fit and operated as advertised. Thank you for such prompt service. I put this on my Polaris 570 mid size Ranger. The problem was a normal hitch was under the bed and a 2 inch rise was a bit too low for a level trailer. This fixed the problem moving the ball out further and higher. Much easier to hook up. I would recommend your company to others.

Ask the Experts about this Curt Hitch Pins and Clips

  • Stainless Steel Hitch Pin and Clip or Rubber Handle Hitch Pin and Clip for 2 Inch Hitches
For a stainless steel hitch pin I recommend the Master Lock Pivot Lock Hitch Pin for 2" Hitches - 5/8" Diameter - Stainless Steel # ML1465DAT. The Master Lock pin is really nice because it doesn't need a separate clip, it has a rotating barrel at the end which you turn to keep the clip securely in place. For a hitch pin and clip with a rubber grip the best option is the Curt Pin and Clip For Class III, IV and V Trailer Hitch Receiver with Rubberized Plastic Grip # C21510. This...

  • What is the Weight Rating of the Curt Pin and Clip # C21510
Hitch pins are not given weight ratings because they are built with such extreme weight bearing capabilities that the trailer hitch, ball mount or trailer coupler is more likely to fail than the hitch pin. Most Class IV trailer hitches have a maximum towing capacity of 12,000 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 1,000 lbs. Before you tow your horse trailer, you will also want to verify the towing capacity of your tow vehicle. There are instances where a Class IV hitch is available for...

  • Recommended Pin And Clip To Replace Lost Pin On Curt Folding Cargo Carrier For 2 Inch Receivers
It sounds like the pin that allows the cargo carrier to be tilted up or down is what you are missing. I have attached a photo of the pin on a cargo carrier. If that is the pin and clip that is missing I recommend using part # C21510 as a replacement. This pin is designed for 2 inch and 2-1/2 inch trailer hitches and my contact at Curt said the pin would work well for you.

  • How to Use the Thule T2 Bike Rack with a 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch
You are on the right track. The only way we have that will allow you to use the Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TH9044 with the 2.5" receiver tube opening on your truck would be with adapter. For this, I recommend the Brophy Hitch Reducer and Extender part # HR26. This adapter offers both a reducer from 2.5" to 2" and an extension of 7" from the center of each hitch pin hole. This 7" extension will have more than enough room for the shank of the T2 to securely rest inside....

  • How to Choose the Correct Ball Mount for a 2017 Subaru Forester
In order to choose the correct ball mount you will need to measure from the ground to the top of the inside edge on the vehicle's receiver tube opening and then compare that to the distance from the ground to the bottom of the coupler on the trailer while level. The distance between these two measurements will give you the correct amount of rise/drop you will need to look for in a ball mount.
