Video Transcript for Softride Locks Hitch Accessories SR25219 Review

Today we are going to show you Softrides stainless steel locking, anti-rattle threaded hitch pin for 2 inch trailer hitches, part number SR25219. The pin diameter at its widest point is 5/8 inches. The inside width of the lock is 3-1/2 inches. It is compatible with any hollow shank 2 inch ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. It utilizes a nut that fits inside the shank of your ball mount, cargo carrier or bike carrier. The threaded pin is then inserted inside and threaded into the nut. It will pull your ball mount to the side of your hitch, removing any of the rattle. I will quickly show you how it worked with a hollow shank ball mount. 0:57

We will take our ball mount, fit the sleeve with the nut inside and line it up with the hitch pin hole on our ball mount. You would then insert it into your hitch, feed the pin through the hitch, thread it into the nut and tighten it down. This will again pull our ball mount snug against the inside of our hitch, pulling out any of the rattle. Then on the opposite side, you want to fix the lock. The lock is made of brass and has a rubber cover to help keep moisture out of the lock. To remove the lock, insert the key, give it less than a quarter of a turn and the lock comes off. And that does it for Softride stainless steel locking, anti-rattle threaded hitch pin for 2 inch hitches, part number SR25219.

I wanted to wait to review this until I actually installed it in my bike hitch. I tried it on my 2013 Ford Truck and our 2013 Lexis. I was concerned in that the lock actually fit into the hitch hole and wanted to make sure that it did-- and yes, it did on both. Perhaps it is not important but I recommend that you install the lock before you tighten the bolt all the way. The lock has little tolerance for movement so if the bolt is a little off to one side, you might not be able to get the lock on. It’s all good however; you will only make this mistake once. It would be nice if the nut was more secure but I experienced no problem with it which most likely is why they did not do more to secure it. I had an idea that I would just weld a nut to the inside or the hitch and not have to deal with the black plastic holder until it occurred to me that the black device allows this to be self centering. A very good idea. My wife is the one who wanted the bike rack so I let her install it without any advice. She did various things wrong but figured it out. She did not push on the bolt hard enough to get it into the centering of the nut (another good design item) and she tightened the bolt before putting the lock on and it was off center just enough so the lock would not push into the hole. Once she loosened it a bit, it went right in and she retightened just fine. It secures the bike mount to the hitch very well. I would, and most likely will, buy it again. Good value I rate my wife a 5. Nothing else The video is priceless. Play it 79226

What I like: Depending on the hitch and receiver you use, the hitch pin may do an excellent job in controlling sway : vertical and horizontal. What I am not entirely happy about: Depending on the hitch and receiver you use, the hitch pin may do an excellent job in controlling sway on the horizontal but not as much on the vertical. Also be careful about over tightening the bold to the anti-rattle assembly. It can twist the rubber stabilizing assembly a little bit. I think that may be the reason for the lack of vertical control. The problem is, my specific pin holes are a bit deep so I can't grab the assembly to line it up correctly. Also the lock sleeve maybe a little big for the pin hole so don't completely tighten the pin so you have a little wiggle room. However it is much better improvement over the standard pin with clip. 23798

This fit my Alpha Tow bar and it tighten up very well. The lock and bolt are well made and the bolt had a lock washer for the bolt end. You could access the lock easily and I found that the lock should be added before doing the final tightening for the bolt. 80823

Still working fine, I did have to retighten once, but that is all. I will check on occasion to make sure it does not work loose. There is no slack or rattle when tight.

I have a Lexus GX460 and bought this item specifically because it mentions having a longer pin to accommodate Toyota hitch receivers. For this vehicle it only fits if you do not use the lock washer. I even bought much narrower star lock washer from Lowes and even that was too wide. The lock will not engage with any washer. And even then you have to line up the holes perfectly to gain every millimeter of clearance. That said I had no choice but to go without a washer and use the lock on a 2400 mile round trip vacation and had no issues at all. I didn't torque the bolt down all that hard (maybe 40-50 lb pressure?) and it stayed secure the whole way. Noticeably stabilized my hitch carrier with 4 large suitcases. If I were to look again I'd try to buy one that more properly fit my Lexus but otherwise worked fine. 267497

Everything about this product is well designed with the exception of the rubber strip that attaches the 'cap' that covers the key entry location. The strip is very thin and my cap separated from it the first time I went to remove the cap so now it is held in place with a rubber band. I do like the fact that the lock has a sleeve that fits over the hitch pin and covers it all the way into the hitch. This effectively increases the diameter of the pin and rotates which should make it more difficult for anyone who might try to cut it off with a hack saw. It also means you may need someone to adjust the hitch shank to ensure the hitch pin is exactly centered. If it isn't, you can't get the sleeve over the pin and into the hitch and that prevents the lock from engaging. 39654

The Softride hitch pin was shipped immediately after I ordered it and arrived within a few days. The installation instructions were complete and clear, with good diagrams indicating how the components went together. Construction and quality of materials was good, with most metal parts being stainless steel. The anti-rattle feature worked well, eliminating most movement in the hitch. Note this was the third anti-rattle hitch pin I tried for our Conner dual hitch receiver. Despite being nominally a 2" hitch accessory, the Conner inner dimension is about 1/16" less than any of the other anti-rattle devices tried, making it impossible to install them. The Softride device uses a soft elastomeric adapter sleeve that allows installation into tighter fitting receivers. 278775

Great product, fit and finish. There is a trick to getting this little guy installed. Get the bolt near tight, where you still have play in the hitch. You need the play to get the silver shield on the top of the lock to enter the receiver so the lock can lock onto the pin. Once its locked onto the pin, tighten up the bolt and you are done. No wobble, nice and secure. 25871

At first it seemed to be designed well. I added a drop of oil to the threads to be on the safe side. Identical stainless steels had the tendency to gall on the threads. Another words, welds themselves together. The lock is big and in the lock mode was secured. However, the lock decided to separate from the assembly. It's exact location is unknown. It is somewhere between Santa Ana and East Mojave (about 24 miles north of Baker in the desert). All I can estimate, is this locking system does not like shock and heavy vibration. A lanyard from the lock to the vehicle would be nice just in case the internal locking mechanism opens and the lock falls off. 308276

Arrived quickly. Easy to install with the excellent video and instructions. I installed on my 2012 Forester with the Curt hitch I had previously purchased from etrailer. The locking hitch pin completely stopped my hitch rattle. 166670

I bought this product to keep my hitch mounted cargo carrier from moving around and to secure it so it couldn't be stolen. The carrier doesn't fit snug in the receiver so it rattles and wiggles up and down. This hitch pin threads into a nut that is held inside the hollow tube that slides into the receiver. The nut is held inside by a rubber bushing that does a good job of lining the nut up with the hole and KEEPING IT THERE! The bolt threads through the nut making everything snug (no more noise or movement) and then the lock (seems heavy duty for a hitch pin) locks on the other end. 30955

I found the instructions easy to follow and the product installation was pretty straightforward. It took a few attempts to tighten it and not bind up the lock side of the sleeve, but it's now on the hitch just the way I want it and appears rock solid. Be sure to read the instructions and just finger tighten the bolt, install the lock, then tighten with a wrench. Also, the instructions say a 21mm wrench will fit the bolt, but it was actually 22mm. It's all stainless and brass, so should last awhile. Highly recommend this anti-rattle lock. 101845

The Stainless Steel Locking Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin I purchased from eTrailer.com is GREAT!!! It was delivered in a timely manner and I was able to install it on my 2008 Jeep Liberty without any problems by following the included simple instructions. It solved the problem of my trailer hitch rattling all the time when I am driving!! I would recommend this product (and eTrailer.com) to anyone who is having an issue with your trailer hitch rattling when you are driving. 310872

I bought this an an add-on for a dual motorcycle carrier I've got. I've got a single motorcycle carrier and a bike rack that both came with similar threaded hitch pins and knew they worked well. Anyway, when this new hitch pin assembly arrived, I was pleasantly surprized. It arrived at my door very quickly and is of excellent quality. The lock is waaaaay better than the other ones I have. Highly recommended for anyone that uses any sort of hitch mounted rack or carrier. 40399

The product does work great to silence the hitch. I was able to take my trailer for a drive this weekend and there was no hitch rattle. There are 2 minor issues: 1) The loose nut makes it a little fiddly to install the plastic holder in the draw bar. Once in place it works good. 2) Don't tighten the bolt down until after you have installed the lock. Otherwise the shank cover will not slide into the hole in the receiver and the lock wont engage. 236177

Product was just as advertised. Shipped date not even close, ordered in March delivered in August. I understand back-orders but when purchased NOT in stock with a possible delivery date would have solved this issue. Also free shipping only applied when all items shipped at once, however etrailer reps did break up order after two months to send items in stock separately, after I requested as compensation for long wait. Just set expectations up front! 422551

A well built, solid and easy to use hitch pin. I have not driven with it yet but it seems very secure and is much more robust than the thin diameter threaded hitch pins such as the one used for Thule racks. And thank you to etrailer for the excellent buying experience. I appreciated the email chain to advise me that my order was received, the product had shipped and that they had received confirmation of my delivery. Nicely done. 84622

This product is everything they claimed. In the process that my trailer and dirt bike got stolen, the thieves could not cut though the sleeve and the bolt. They did manage to pry open the coupler (with a lock on it) of the trailer and tow it away. The cut mark in the SS sleeve made it unusable. That's why I'm buying the second one to replace it. Highly recommended. 200913

These items were to replace the LetsGo Aero version of this device, which rendered themselves useless after 1 use. eTrailer support was excellent to work with in exchanging these for SoftRide. The SoftRide version works great. A piece was left out of the package and eTrailer contacted the manufacturer to have the piece sent directly. Great product.....great support. 189228

I bought this because the Quiet Ride hitch system I bought before failed. I love the build of the receiver, but the locks stink!!! I bought this setup ONLY for the lock/key. This appears to be the third different locking mechanism the company has tried in just a few years...let's hope this one lasts longer than six months. 151350

Installed it today. Went together well--I lathered on plenty of grease. Had to be careful for the lock not to obstruct where the safety chain hooks onto the bar. Tightened up real tight. Pulled on it as hard as I could--no movement. Have yet to tow with it so that of course will be the acid test. 279777

My trailer was banging whenever I started up or stopped. This lock stopped the noise almost completely. I did have a problem not pushing the lock on tight and it fell off while driving. Luckily, I was able to find it on the road and am now more careful to make sure it locks on. 309097

My previous tow vehicle had a receiver with two pin holes so I used the hook style anti-rattle hitch pin (it worked great). This vehicle's receiver only has a single hole so I decided to try this anti-rattle hitch pin. A little expensive but it works great. 53916

Just what I was looking for to secure my bike rack and prevent wobble. I picked this since it is also rated to support towing. Some of the other less expensive products looked like they would also do the job but were not as versatile. 212431

The first time I removed the dust cover the strap broke. Would be nice to have a wire cable attached to the lock. I'm very happy with the lock and the quick delivery time 61626

This product fit the wider hitch on my Tacoma Tacoma and silenced my Curt adjustable hitch. Found the hitch pin to be of high quality and worked as advertised. 89359

I liked the concept of tighten the ball to the receiver but it comes with some inconvenience. You have to carry a wrench with you whenever you remove the ball. 328355

I previously ordered a hitch and wiring from you and was very impressed. The videos were valuable for the installation of both products. The deliver was fast. 56868

  • Is There Another Lock Option for Thule Hitch Mounted Bike Racks Besides THSTL2
  • If you have a Thule accessory, like a bike rack, then the lock and anti-rattle device from Thule, # THSTL2, is the only one that will work. (See THSTL2 product page for the racks the lock fits.) It fits 1-1/4 and 2 inch Thule hitch mounted racks. The reason it only fits these Thule models is the way that the lock and racks are threaded. They are uniquely threaded to match each other. I have included a video and instructions for this lock below.

  • Too Much Sway while Towing a Bike Rack and Using a Hitch Adapter
  • I am glad to hear the hitch installation went smoothly, but sorry to hear you are unhappy with the adapter. When using adapters, the play you are experiencing is a common problem. When using accessories in a trailer hitch, sometimes they are a perfect fit, sometimes they are a little loose and other times they are so tight that you must file the accessory down a bit. Because, there is not always a perfect fit, there are anti-rattle devices made. You may have noticed that your Yakima...

  • Which Trailer Hitch Pin Locks Will Work with Thule Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks
  • The Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device, # THSTL2, is the only hitch pin lock that can be used with Thule bike racks. The racks and lock are both uniquely threaded to be compatible with each other so another lock, like the Softride Lock, # SR25219, that you have referenced will not work. I have included a link to a video review of this lock for reference. I recommend adding a cable lock, like # CAB-10, and using it through the bikes, around the rack, and attach it to the...

  • Trailer Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier 52018 Pin and Clip and Anti-Rattle Lock
  • The 24x60 Cargo Carrier for 2 inch Trailer Hitch, item # 52018, is one of our best selling cargo carriers. It is very sturdy and made in the United States. We receive very few phone calls regarding this product. Also, the 24x60 Cargo Carrier has the option to use the Folding Basket Adapter, item # 52015. The pin and clip needed is, item # PC3, however, we always recommend that our customers lock their carriers to the receiver hitch. Anti-rattle locks are very helpful, especially with...

  • Stable Cargo Carrier Needed When in the Folded Up Position for a GMC Yukon Denali XL
  • We have several Folding carriers designed to fit in a 2 inch hitch, see link. The problem you are experiencing with cargo carriers wobbling in the upright position is inherent to the folding style of carrier and I have not seen one yet that fully addresses this issue. The Surco Products Hitch Cargo Carrier, item # 52018F, that you mentioned probably has the best hinge construction of all of the folding carriers that we carry at this time. The folding aspect also requires that the carrier...

  • Drilling a Hole in a Receiver to Accept a J-Pin Anti-Rattle Device
  • Drilling a hole in your hitch will void the manufacturers warranty. That being said you can purchase other styles of anti-rattle devices that will work very well and you will not have to modify the hitch to install them. I would recommend the SoftRide anti-rattle hitch lock, part # SR25219, this lock has a nut that installs inside the hollow draw bar or shank of the hitch accessory and then, when the hitch pin lock is threaded into the hitch, the ball mount or shank is wedged to the side...

  • Anti-Rattle Compatibility with an Allen 532RR Bike Rack
  • I am sorry, but we do not offer Allen brand bike racks, so we do not have an anti-wobble hitch pin designed specifically for this rack. We do, however, offer some anti-rattle options that may work for your needs, depending on how the pin hole and the shank on the bike rack are configured. If the pin hole on your bike rack is not threaded, and the shank on the rack itself is hollow, you could use a basic anti-rattle device such as part # SR25219 if you have a 2 inch trailer hitch. If...

Hollywood Racks part # HRLHPTC is a set of hitch and cable locks that includesa 1/2-inch diameter threaded hitch pin with the same thread pitch as the Xport part.

  • Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin Recommendation for a Yakima Bike Rack with a 2 Inch Shank
  • You can use the Softride Locking, Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin, # SR25219, as long as the shank of your Yakima bike rack is hollow. The block will insert into the shank of the bike rack and the threaded pin will thread through and lock. If your Yakima bike rack has a threaded insert in the shank, then it should have come with a threaded pin. If this is the case, then let me know the model of your bike rack and I can see if we have a replacement pin for your bike rack. If the threaded insert...

  • Locking Hitch Pin Recommendation for a Carpod Cargo Carrier on a 2007 Toyota 4Runner Sport
  • The Softride Locking, Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin, # SR25219, is an excellent choice to secure a Carpod basket to your 2007 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition. This hitch pin will not only keep your basket secure, but it will keep the shank of the cargo basket tight against the receiver tube with the anti-rattle device. We carry two Carpod baskets and they are the Carpod Walled, Folding Cargo Carrier, # M2205, and the Walled, Fixed Cargo Carrier, # M2200. I would recommend using the Folding Cargo...

  • I spoke with my contact at Curt regarding the Folding, Aluminum Cargo Carrier, # C18100. She stated that there are no holes specifically for mounting a license plate. However, what can be done is to drill the necessary holes if needed. If any of the holes line up, you can use them for a license plate. There will be some rattle or play at the folding bracket. It can be kept to a minimum with all the hardware installed and tightened properly. With any folding carrier, there will always...

The weight capacity of the Pro Series Hitch Cargo Carrier is 400 pounds, but you will want to make sure to stay within the tongue weight capacity of your hitch and vehicle. • Why Does the EZ Hitch Adjustable Ball Mount Rattle While Driving
  • The hitch balls on the EZ Hitch Adjustable Ball Mount, # AM3296, will rattle somewhat in the ball mount when not towing. The rattle is due to the shank of the hitch ball being narrower than the mounting slot on the shank of the ball mount. While towing the rattle will be minimal because the weight on the hitch ball will push the hitch ball shank into the slot on the ball mount. If the rattle you are experiencing is at your trailer hitch receiver, then that can be easily remedied with...

  • The 20x60 Folding Cargo Carrier for 2 inch Trailer Hitches # SR9850 does come with an anti-rattle device built in but it is possible to use a different anti-rattle device. For your 2005 Chevy Equinox I recommend the Anti-Rattle Device and Lock for 2 inch Trailer Hitches # 63232. If this is the one you purchased it is the best option for your vehicle and Cargo Carrier. • I walked out to our store and pulled the Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # C18151. I then installed it on a 2011 Honda Pilot. The cargo carrier fits great on the Pilot and folds up without interfering with the bumper. The carrier is not wide enough to sit in front of the rear tail lights. You will want to to also attach your grill securely to the cargo carrier, I would recommend something such as a 10 foot Ratchet Tie Down with Coated Hooks, 900 lbs (Qty 4), part # E01418.
