Video Transcript for Master Lock Hitch Locks - Standard Pin Lock - 1472DAT Review

Today we're going to review part number 1472DAT. This is the Master Lock Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock. It is the Swivel Head, Flush Design Lock. It fits Class I and Class II 1-1/4-inch hitches. This trailer hitch receiver lock is used in place of a standard pin and clip to prevent theft of your ball mount or any hitch accessories, like a cargo carrier or bike rack. It uses a patented, stainless steel swivel head, as we can see right here, that rotate 360 degrees for easy access. The brass keyway - we flip open the cover here, you can see there's a brass keyway. It has an aluminum casing.

This will conveniently face toward you, not off to the side. The push-to-lock mechanism makes locking easy and foolproof. The lock will click into place. You can feel and hear that it's locked. It comes with the 2 keys right here. If we could put the key in. To unlock it, you just turn the key and it would unlock it.

Then to lock it, if you leave the key in, you'll see the push-to-lock. When you do that, you'll hear it click into place, and you're ready to go. Take your key out, put your cover on. You can see that it is locked. It does use a 4-pin tumbler mechanism. This will help resist picking of the lock.

It is a chrome-plated steel that resists corrosion. It has this weather-resistant, snap-on cover which will keep dirt and moisture out of that brass keyway. Its rugged construction complies with the ASTM testing standards for exposure to salt and UV rays. It does include these 2 keys. Again, the application on this lock is for Class I and for Class II 1-1/4-inch receivers. The load rating on this is 3500 pounds.

The pin diameter itself right here is 1/2 inch. The inside pin length - I'll give you that measurement - is 2-3/4 inches. Just to give you an idea, I have an example here. This is what a 1-1/4-inch hitch receiver opening would look like. What I'm going to do here, let's go ahead and take the lock off and put the key in. We'll go ahead and twist it, pull that off. You can see this would be on your tow vehicle, as your hitch pin hole on the side. This is where normally your pin and clip would go, but you'd replace that pin and clip with this lock. You just slide this through. Go ahead and push it. You can hear it click into place. Go ahead and take your key out, put your cover on. There you have it. This would lock your accessory or your ball mount to your 1-1/4-inch hitch opening. That should do it for the review on part number 1472DAT, the Master Lock Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, the Swivel Head, Flush Design for Class I and Class II, 1-1/4-inch hitches. .

Good quality but I wish it were of a more snug fit. Jiggles around and can be heard in cabin when vehicle hits bumps. I secured the black bolt end with electrical tape to the hitch bar until I figure out something better. Does the trick though. But one would have to retape every time lock bolt is removed. Not a big deal. 161395

Found Etrailer.com thru a web search and they beat out everyone else hands down. Not only in price but in selection, quality and service. I recently put a 3" lift kit on my Jeep Cherokee and I needed to get a hitch that would drop down lower. I was able to get exactly what I was looking for and it was delivered very quickly. Would I use Etrailer.com again - You Bet! 102562

Bought this to replace the stock hitch lock pin that came with my Kuat Sherpa bike rack. Only issue i'm having is that it fits into my hidden hitch receiver and it fits into my Sherpa rack but when the rack is installed in the hitch I can't get the pin to go through. Will play with it a bit more, but I hope I won't have to drill anything out. 131763

The sherpa is exactly why I interested in this lock. Did you get it to work?

Havent tried any other ways to get the master lock to work with my Kuat Sherpa rack, the only way I see to get it to fit is to drill it out and Im not drilling out the rack or receiver. So using the stock pin.

Thanks for responding to Jason's question. The Kuat Sherpa does use a specialized offset pin that is incorporated into their anti-rattle system. So the only the Kuat lock is compatible with the Sherpa. Kari you are correct that you do not want to drill out either the lock or the hitch, and the original pin is the way to go.

I like the locks but have had some problems with them staying locked. In fact I lost one lock already. The problem I believe is that you have to have the key in the lock for it t lock. As result it is difficult to tell if in fact it is locked. In my opinion it would work better if the key wasn't needed to fix the lock to the shaft similar to the way in which other hasp type Master Locks work. 255374

Review from a similar Master Lock SS Hitch Lock in Hitch Locks

Installed on 2012 Ford F-250 with the OEM 2.5" hitch. Nice fit, also really like the stainless steel construction since most of my towing is done in the winter towing a trailer full of snowmobiles on typical midwestern heavily salted roads. Nice rubber boot around lock with weather cap prevents salt/water intrusion and abrasion on hitch surfaces. Good looking anodized red handle/stop on other end. As mentioned earlier, weather seal o-ring on stem is slightly oversized and tends to push out rather than engaging hole in lock but a little lube on the o-ring before installation mitigated that issue. Service from etrailer is top notch - bar none. 60108

Do you have a question about this Hitch Lock?

  • Can a 1-1/4 - 2 Adapter be Used to Safely Haul a Cargo Carrier with a 2015 Toyota Corolla
  • The concept of a hitch adapter like the Brophy # HTAD is a good idea in theory but the problem with using one of those with a 1-1/4" hitch, like part # C11265 or # 24913 for your 2015 Toyota Corolla, is that it will reduce the weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50%. Since those trailer hitches have a tongue weight rating of 200 lbs this means that the tongue weight will be reduced to 100 lbs. If you were to use all of this for the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18153 you would only...

  • Can I Tow A Small Trailer With Draw-Tite Hitch On 2017 Mazda 6
  • Yes, the Draw-Tite Class I receiver part # 24908 is rated for up to 200 lbs of tongue weight so it supports the weight of your small trailer and gear. Tongue weight is normally 10-15% of the loaded trailer weight and it sounds like your tongue weight could be around 60 lbs at the max. As long as you do not exceed the 200 lb tongue weight capacity the Draw-Tite can support it. However, I was able to find your owner's manual as well and it lists many different configurations that depends...

  • The Draw-Tite # 24857 for your 2008 BMW is only rated for Class I. This means the only options to have your bike rack fit are the # HTAD or the # HT5R that are compatible with Class I hitches. You will limit the 200 lb tongue weight capacity of your hitch to 100 lbs because the adapter will reduce the hitch's tongue weight by 50%. That new 100 lb capacity will need to include the weight of your bike carrier as well as the loaded bikes. I also recommend using a hitch lock like # 1472DAT...

This is my recommendation because there is not a motorcyle carrier for Class I trailer hitches due to their tongue capacity rating. • Can I Use the Brophy Hitch Adapter to Carry a 4 Bike Rack on a Class I Hitch on a 2009 Honda Fit
  • The Brophy Hitch Adapter, # HTAD, will allow you to use your 2 inch bike rack with a 1/4 inch trailer hitch receiver, however, using any hitch adapter will decrease the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by half. This means you will only be able to carry 100lbs on the hitch, including the weight of the bike rack and the bikes you are carrying. Another factor that must be considered is that Class I trailer hitches can only support up to 2 bikes at a time. The reason that only...

  • The Carpod Walled Folding Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches, part # M2205, will fit into the 1-1/4-inch hitch receiver on your 2012 Toyota Prius V wagon only if used with an adapter. The problem with using hitch adapters is that they reduce the hitch weight capacity by half. • Hitch Lock for SportRack 4-Bike Tilting Hitch-Mount Carrier
  • SportRack makes a number of different 4-bike tilting hitch-mount bike carriers to fit both 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches. The threaded shank of the SportRack carriers generally prevents use of standard non-threaded hitch locks like # 1472DAT. The diameter of these aftermarket...

  • How to Lock Bike Rack With No Hitch Pin Lock Available
  • The HitchMate Threaded Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches # HE6001 has a 5/8" pin diameter and is designed for certain SportRack bike racks so it will not work for you. Hitch pin locks are designed for specific bike racks so if that's what you need it for, let me know what rack you have I can see if there is a lock that will work for you. Otherwise, if you have a 1/2 inch diameter hitch pin that likely means you have a 1-1/4 inch receiver and we do have hitch locks with 1/2 inch...
