Solid basket for travel. The side rails are great for attaching straps and their height is enough to keep even larger things (30" tall & heavy) from tipping. Its construction is very good so that even if the load isn't perfectly balanced it maintains its position. 328298

Cargo carrier meets our needs and was easy assembly. Would give it 5 stars except had to strip off some paint to get it into the 1 1/4” hitch receiver. 695334

Just received the product and assembly time was only minutes as it came in three pieces and five bolts. The finished assembly is high quality and looks good. It will be used to carry items for vacation to save space in the vehicle. 678185

We actually haven't used the rear carrier yet but the hitch was rather easy to attach as long as you have the right tools. Fish wire really made it easy. 566364

love it. carried shingles, smelly garbage, returnable cans, even a caged rooster. Good tight fit and no slop. I remove it by hooking it to a tree stump and driving forward a bit. 553132

Solid, attractive unit--wobbles a bit in the hitch when underway, but that was evident from the video review I watched before purchasing. I'd recommend it! 539544

Product arrived without hardware. One call and hardware was shipped same day. Nice basket but think it could use 4 inch rise for use on Chevy Cruze Sedan. Only 9 inches of ground. 456250

This kit works, but not in the configuration delivered. If you purchase this, be prepared to find an alternate method to mount the lights. You will likely need to modify the cargo carrier to make this work. The lights are sealed units that are normally flush mounted on larger trailers. Mounts have been added with self-tapping screws that easily strip out of the housing and the mounts fall off the lights. The screws in the kit were smaller in diameter than the holes in the mounts, both front and back, making them useless. I tried attaching the lights using zip ties and just the mount on the light portion, but that failed when the mount screws stripped out of the lights. I did not have the issue with the wiring being too short like other reviewers. My wiring was actually a little too long. To actually install this kit reliably, here what you need: - Silicone - Super Glue - Screwdriver (Flat or Phillips Depending on Screw Choice) - Wire Cutters (To Cut the Ends off of Anchors) - 9/32" Drill Bit - 4x #6x1.5" Machine Screw - 4x #6x0.75" Anchors How I installed mine: 1. Remove the plastic bracket supplied with the light. Fill the holes with silicone so that the lights are sealed again. Check in a couple minutes to ensure that the silicone didn't drip through. Add more as needed until the hole is filled. 2. Trim the ends off of your anchors so that they fit in the two plastic circles on the back of the lights. Just a little bit will do. Test fit them to make sure they go all the way in. Once you're sure they fit, super glue just the bevel at the top to the light. This is to prevent them from turning in the hole because the plastic on the light is really smooth. 3. Drill two 9/32" holes in the rear upright bars of the carrier. Make the holes 1/4" from the edge so you can still connect the wiring. Space the holes at 2 5/16". The holes need to go through the front and back of the uprights. 4. Put the screws through the back holes pointing outwards. Once the super glue has dried, screw the screws into the anchors. 5. Connect the wiring per the supplied instructions. 419087

The cargo carrier arrived amazingly quick! Thankfully, it was packed in a sturdy box, very well padded but not at all overly packaged. It arrived in perfect condition. The instructions were simple and clear, and we put it together in about 15 minutes. We do not have a hitch pin yet so are unable to attach it to the car, but we plan to use it on our trips to Utah from California for items like the cooler and other such things that don't need to ride in the car's interior. I'll write an update after our next trip, which is in a few weeks. Thanks for the great product and excellent service. 247712

Ez to assemble. Seems sturdy and not bad looking. Came as scheduled and was packed well. Not sure if this part or the hitch I bought to carry it was at fault but the hitch pin will not fit thru. Holes do not match. Been a card-carrying mechanic since 1978, I get it. These two parts didn't fit together. Had to go buy other bolt to use as "hitch pin". Don't have time for that. 218398

The basket is good, my problem was with it fitting in my hitch. The first bar was tapered so it started out as 1 1/4 in and ended up 1 3/8 in by the back. only about 1 in would fit into the hitch then get stuck. The company was very active and sent me a new middle bar. Same problem. cleaned out my hitch, tried every other attachment i have and they all fit with no problem. I ended up having to grind down the bar so It would fit. 208338

Product as discribed. Bending over it to put pin in would be easier if there was a swing pin to fold it up while installing. Some assembly required. This is priced higher than most 2x2 reciever mounts, but 1 1/4 harder to find than 2x2. I find that strange. 95014

The cargo carrier was received with no damage to the package. The contents were packaged well and the carrier was in perfect condition upon arrival. I liked that you use nylocks instead of a lock washer and nut for the bolts. It took less than 10 minutes to assemble it and put it on my car. It's only rated as Class 1 carrier but that's all my car is rated to use. I'm more than pleased with the product and will not hesitate to purchase anything I may need in the future from your fine company. Your website was easy to navigate and made my shopping experience a delight. 42549

I felt that the service of this company was of the highest degree, thank you so very much for your help and timely assistance. The cargo carrier I received was well packaged and arrived a few days after the order. The frame and all points of welds appeared excellent, with the metal gauge being very thick and substantial. This is truely a well built-made in the USA product that appears to be suitable for years of use. 28981

Everything was great about this experience. First off, eTrailer.com helped me research which products would work with my 1 - 1/4 " trailer hitch on my 2010 Subaru Outback. Once I made the purchase, the carrier was shipped to me very quickly. I used the product to haul a lot of firewood and a cooler on my recent camping trip. Assembly was a snap and it was light enough that I was able to install the carrier easily, with no assistance. I used the carrier with a Rola expandable cargo bag. Perfect combination! 19476

  • Hitch Cargo Carrier Recommendation for 2009 Subaru Outback with 1-1/4 inch Hitch
Sounds like you have a 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch installed on your 2009 Subaru Outback Wagon and you are wanting to get a hitch cargo carrier that will for sure fit it. The carrier that will work best for you is the Surco Carrier part # 52017 as this fits both Class I and II hitches and has a 20 by 48 inch platform with raised rails around it. I attached a review video for more info on this as well.

  • Is There A Motorcycle Carrier That Will Fit A 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch?
Since you have a small trail bike that only weighs 112 lbs, you will be able to use a cargo carrier with your hitch and stay within the tongue weight capacity rating of a Class I trailer hitch for a 2014 Kia Soul. This is my recommendation because there is not a motorcyle carrier for Class I trailer hitches due to their tongue capacity rating. I have a similar trail bike to your Coleman ct200u and suggest using the 20x48 Surco Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" Hitches - Steel - 300 lbs, # 52017....

  • Do Cargo Carriers Normally Obstruct Taillights and License Plates
The Surco Cargo carrier part # 52017 that you referenced is 48 inches wide and should sit lower than the taillights of your vehicle (most likely). Mainly due to the width of this carrier it shouldn't interfere at all with the visibility of the taillights. You can measure the distance between your taillights to be certain. This carrier should sit lower and be too narrow to cause issue with that. Also, most likely the cameras that would take a picture of your license plate would be up above...

When the weight of the shipping box is subtracted, the Surco # 52017 Cargo Carrier weighs right around 45 lbs. Since the Class I receiver on your 2009 Accord has a 200 lb tongue weight capacity, the 45 lbs would be deducted from the tongue weight capacity of the hitch. This would leave a capacity for the carrier of 155 lbs, which is still pretty respectable. You were right on the money.
