Rugged, corrosion-resistant hitch cargo carrier has side rails that help contain gear and offer lots of tie-down points. Angled shank raises the platform for extra ground clearance. Optional light kit sold separately.Sturdy, large cargo area, and lots of options for securing a load. This product was a bit banged up in the packaging upon arrival and i also had too clean up some welding slag on some mating surfaces. The anti rattle hitch pin thats included works great, but is a bit of a pain to remove in a pinch because it's treaded into the carrier. Overall great durability and did not block any access to the rear of my ford flex .
etrailer was great to deal with. They kept me up to date on shipping and when the item was going to arrive. The carrier went together with very little effort, just needed a socket set and an adjustable wrench, I wrench. I specifically order this carrier for hunting, and it can handle anything I throw at it
This item arrived less than 12 hours from when I ordered it! Fantastic! The carrier itself is as good as I expected. It’s very sturdy, hi quality construction. And it looks great. One of the reasons that I chose this particular rack was that it would likely fit on my jeep and clear the spare tire. Unfortunately, it did not fit. 2 of the pics I posted show this issue. I have a substantial 37” tire and I was about 2 ½” short of getting the pin in, & that’s after removing the curved chrome bar on that side to allow more room. So, I ordered a hitch extension with a 4” drop and I added a hitch tightener from [auto parts store]. It works perfectly. The other pics show it installed with plenty of clearance. Overall, I’m super pleased with this with this cargo carrier.
So far so good. I read reviews about packaging being poor and product being damaged as a result. My packaging was great. More than adequate. Also read reviews about reflectors and hitch pins not being included. My package had both. Thumbs up. Easy to put together and install. Seems very solid. Only issue is with the cotter pin that is supposed to keep the hitch pin from backing out. If your receiver has a flange on it like my Toyota does you won’t get the cotter pin installed. I replaced it with a price if heavy gauge wire shaped to fit.
The Rola 59502 cargo carrier arrived on time as estimated in the shipping information. Assembly was very easy. Recommend using a torque wrench to tighten all bolts as shown in the assembly instructions The Rola cargo carrier is built extremely well compared to other cargo carriers. The steel mesh bottom is 2 times as thick and heavy compared to other carriers. This carrier is heavy and may take two people to place into your receiver. The 600 lb capacity is larger than most carriers the slightly angled side walls help with placing larger items in the unit. I installed the Rola 59502 on a 2019 Toyota Tundra, front of truck on a Curt front mount receive. I will place a verity of items in the carrier from large ice chest, gas grill or bicycles. We go camping and bring quite a lot of gear.
Used it yesterday. Solid materials love the extra ground clearance as i live in an area of steep slopes and hills. I also have a rhino rack on top and i can use my vehicle to move lumber and the rola on the back is rated for 600 lbs great for bags of concrete and landscaping materials. Thanks again etrailer for the sweet selection and prices.
Great Carrier excellent build quality added led light kit Great addition for our 2018 Audi Q7
After reading reviews for products for a couple months, I settled on and purchased the Rola Cargo Carrier (Item 59502) along with the Tuffbak (Item 59119) and the LED Light Kit (Item 59516) for a recent trip to gulf coast of Florida with my family. Typically with my wife and myself, we don't need the extra room - but I took my parents with us, so needed extra cargo room. This setup worked great on the back of my Toyota 4Runner. The back hatch will not open with the cargo carrier loaded down, but the back window rolled down in the 4Runner making getting to stuff in the cargo area a breeze. As some others had mentioned, the packaging on the carrier (from Rola not etrailer) could be somewhat more sturdy as part of mine had some scratches that I covered with some paint. The carrier itself is incredibly sturdy and love the design. Another reason why I purchased this carrier was being able to add the LED lights which was a great feature. I did not use the hitch pin that came with the product, as I needed one that would lock. Using a locking hitch pin, I also added a hitch stabilizer and had no issues with it moving. I assume using the pin that comes with it would keep you from having to use the stabilizer but I preferred the pin would lock. The lights installed easily and plugged right into the car and worked flawlessly. The bag says its water resistant and not waterproof, however, we had pretty substantial rain on the way home and nothing in the bag got wet. I also added a master lock thru the zipper pulls on the bag and an additional ratcheting tie down. I have zero complaints and it worked great. I had to contact etrailer because one package was delivered but the other was not and I only had one tracking number. They were quick to send me an additional tracking number and even messaged to make sure it made it the next day. Great customer service, would definitely use them again.
I was getting tired of throwing gear on the roof rack struggling to get it down and worring about clearance issues or being top heavy (every Jeepers off-roading nightmare). So I started looking for for the impossible a rack with a low center of gravity, that wouldn't affect my ground clearance and most importantly fit with my 35" spare. I found many hitch basket/rack options but either to flimsy, to low to the ground or required dual hitch mounts. Then I found the Rola cargo carrier on etrailer and started having hope. I knew I would have to modify the rack in order to fit my Jeep but at least I could modify it compared to others. The rack is sturdy and doesn't make me lose any ground clearance. I removed the rear chrome crossmember and added some pipe insulation to prevent the metal tabs from rubbing on my spare (only required on mine because of the oversized spare). As the pictures show it fits like a glove and carried 200 lbs of gear like a mule. I have used in George Washington National Forest, up and down the Blue Ridge Trail and looking at taking on my TAT journey. I would recommend to anybody looking for a quality product for a decent price without having to completely modify their vehicle.
Bought this rack for my 2013 Traverse. The outside of the carrier fit within the width of the vehicle, so there was no overhang. The light kit installed easily. Carrier does wobble around a bit when it is unloaded, but wasn't noticeable once it was loaded. I only used the standard pin to secure the carrier. Liked the open bars around the carrier. Made it easier to install and to secure the cargo. My only comment (not a complaint) is that the carrier would be designed to more readily install the light kit. A small notch in the back plate would allow you to run the wiring along the main support tube. There was a slight gap on mine, so I could still run the wiring there but I'm guessing that wasn't intentional.
Excellent product. Strongly built; not flimsy at all. I like the vertical rise which increases ground clearance. And the larger grate offer many hook points for cargo so you are not limited to only the edges of the platform. I bought the LED lights. Offers excellent, enhanced visibility day and night. While the rubber inserts for the lens housing are not permanent, they hold the lights very well (if inserted correctly). Also, the wiring harness have sufficient lengths (did they improve it? I know there were complaints), biased with one long and one short. For me, perfect lengths for me to route and hook up to the trailer light socket. I would highly recommend it. I am so very pleased that I have finally bought it. I held out the decision to purchase for over a year! I shouldn't have waited.
Love this rack! Super heavy build and excellent quality. Had to flip the chrome brace arm closest to the vehicle to fit under my oversized spare tire but it works. I have a Jeep JKU with 37" tires so... Awesome, heavy duty rack!
I received my Rola Cargo Carrier within 5 days of ordering it. It was a bit scuffed when I opened the box but the finish was intact. The instructions were easy to follow and I had the whole thing assembled withing 20 minutes of opening the box. I added some reflective tape and just mounted to the back of my Explorer. Looking forward to loading this up with kids college stuff, coolers for camping and hopefully a deer or two this season.
As others have mentioned the shipping box was a bit beat up but arrived quickly with all parts and minimal scratches in the powder coating. Ordered on a Sunday afternoon and half the order arrived on Wed, the rest on Thursday. Setup was quick and I did purchase washers for the rear bolts to give a bit more coverage. I also ordered the Rola LED light kit and cargo net. Both fit perfectly. This thing is strong! Prior to loading I stood on the carrier while on the hitch and jumped up and down. Barley any flex and I am not a light guy by any means. There was very little play once in the receiver and I did not notice any rattles or excess noise on our week long 600 mile road trip. I did not use any type of anti rattle device. With the cargo on the back the passengers and dogs loved having the extra room to move around. As all of my vehicles have hitches so this will be a great addition any time we need extra room or carrying capacity. One thing to note if you are not ordering any pins or locks is that a 5/8 inch pin does not work, you need to have a 1/2 inch pin. Luckily I had both so I was able to use my existing hitch receiver lock. I included pictures of it installed on a 1994 GMC G2500 van. I was able to open both rear doors before loading although the door mounted full size spare did eat up a bit of room. The hitch on the van is bent from an accident by the previous owner so on my application the rack does tilt in towards the vehicle a bit. This is solely due to my hitch, not the rack itself. I did try it on my pickup and it sat nice and level. If you are looking for a cargo carrier I highly recommend the Rola.
I purchased the rola cargo carrier and tuff back cover bag approx. 1 year ago and have used is several dozen times for things ranging from trips to the lake/beach as well as local firewood pickups to storage unit runs. The carrier is on the heavier side at approx. 70lbs unloaded but the weight makes sense as it is Extremely sturdy—heavy duty for sure. With the threaded bolt you don’t even know it’s on the truck as is doesn’t sway/rock at all even at highway speeds. I routinely put multiple full coolers on it and while I’ve probably never exceeded 200lbs I’ve no doubt it could handle the 600lb max as stated. I love the aggressive look and have received numerous complements on it from individuals who own cheaper less study units. The tuff back bag is very high quality and large enough to encapsulate most anything I would put on the rack or feel comfortable doing so height wise. 100% rain/water resistant and durable enough to shuck off most any road debris. I got both items on approx. 30% sale and would buy them both again tomorrow at full price. I have zero complaints, have been extremely satisfied, and look to have these items around for decades to come. I drive a 2014 4Runner for vehicle info.
Got this for my wife's 17 Pacifica. easy to put together and super sturdy. I will still be welding it together so I don't have to worry about the bolts. I stood on it and at 225 lbs, there was not movement. Multiple tie down points ensure I always have something to latch to that will be strong since this is steel. Nice powder coating on the carrier. I will be using a Curt waterproof bag shortly with this. The retention bolt is a screw in so it tends to discourage someone from stealing it unless they have the tools on hand. 12 bolts and about 10 minutes to install. Very happy.
After extensive research I placed the order for the Rola 59502 Cargo Carrier from Etrailer. Free shipping, no sales tax, a price match through Pricepledge that saved me another $37, & the carrier made it to Texas in just 2 days. I'm a 59 yr old widow & had the carrier assembled & installed on my '02 Jeep Wrangler the same afternoon that it arrived. Looks good & feels solid. Will be seeing how it performs in another 4 wks when I take my 60th bday trip to New Mexico. Thank you to Natalie & Judy @ etrailer for the prompt & efficient service provided.
Six months since original review. Over a year of ownership now. Has been on the hitch pretty much continuously for over 6 months, just coming off once to tow a trailer and occassionally clean the receiver and make sure rust wasn't combining the two permanently. Since my apartment complex doesn't let me keep my trailer handy this has all but taken its place. Always in use, always abused, never less than solid. Hitch-Vise anti-rattle bracket also HIGHLY recommended.
Wonderful cargo carrier, we first had it on the back of our Lance slide in camper then moved it to our new Class C motor home. It will hold both our Yeti coolers, propane tank & satellite dish. We love it!!!
This is a perfect cargo carrier for our camp boxes and coolers! It is sturdy, reflectors are great, and sits low enough to not interfere with license plate or back up lights. Would purchase again for sure.
I haven't used it yet, but was easy to put together and very sturdy - shouldn't be a problem at all to add some extra cargo space and hold my coolers. I was shocked at the weight of this being over 70lbs though, which in hindsight I should have noticed as all sturdy cargo carriers are about this weight. (I did buy the lights to go with it and they fit and look great (just needed a little glue to keep them in place).
Everything was as advertised, the rack had a few scratches which will rust over time because the powder coat was scratched off. I think it happened during shipping UPS-- the box was pretty heavy and hard for the UPS guys to handle so someone probably took out their frustrations. The shipping box was really beat up. The LED light kit does seem to fit into the rack nearly as tightly as the reflector-- so I am hanging on to the reflector. I would order from etrailer again for sure. Thank you
This Rola hitch mounted cargo carrier is perfect for our 2012 Sequoia. It sits high and far enough from the exhaust. Also, it does not sag like many other hitch mounted carriers. Ricky at etrailer was very knowledgeable about what would and would not work for our vehicle. Etrailer has earned a new and loyal customer.
My son and I just assembled the carrier and did a test run . It was a very simple assembly and looks like we won't need the tail light assembly as the light are visible . We will have to attatch the license plate. I do have concerns about the pin clip. It simply pops on and I'm worried it will pop off during travel. I am going to look got a locking clip before I travel, but so far it looks like it will free up a lot of space from the cab area .
Easy instructions and quality product. Easy to install led lights as well...would recommend this product to anyone who needs extra storage.
