After reading reviews for products for a couple months, I settled on and purchased the Rola Cargo Carrier (Item 59502) along with the Tuffbak (Item 59119) and the LED Light Kit (Item 59516) for a recent trip to gulf coast of Florida with my family. Typically with my wife and myself, we don't need the extra room - but I took my parents with us, so needed extra cargo room. This setup worked great on the back of my Toyota 4Runner. The back hatch will not open with the cargo carrier loaded down, but the back window rolled down in the 4Runner making getting to stuff in the cargo area a breeze. As some others had mentioned, the packaging on the carrier (from Rola not etrailer) could be somewhat more sturdy as part of mine had some scratches that I covered with some paint. The carrier itself is incredibly sturdy and love the design. Another reason why I purchased this carrier was being able to add the LED lights which was a great feature. I did not use the hitch pin that came with the product, as I needed one that would lock. Using a locking hitch pin, I also added a hitch stabilizer and had no issues with it moving. I assume using the pin that comes with it would keep you from having to use the stabilizer but I preferred the pin would lock. The lights installed easily and plugged right into the car and worked flawlessly. The bag says its water resistant and not waterproof, however, we had pretty substantial rain on the way home and nothing in the bag got wet. I also added a master lock thru the zipper pulls on the bag and an additional ratcheting tie down. I have zero complaints and it worked great. I had to contact etrailer because one package was delivered but the other was not and I only had one tracking number. They were quick to send me an additional tracking number and even messaged to make sure it made it the next day. Great customer service, would definitely use them again. 429508

As others have mentioned the shipping box was a bit beat up but arrived quickly with all parts and minimal scratches in the powder coating. Ordered on a Sunday afternoon and half the order arrived on Wed, the rest on Thursday. Setup was quick and I did purchase washers for the rear bolts to give a bit more coverage. I also ordered the Rola LED light kit and cargo net. Both fit perfectly. This thing is strong! Prior to loading I stood on the carrier while on the hitch and jumped up and down. Barley any flex and I am not a light guy by any means. There was very little play once in the receiver and I did not notice any rattles or excess noise on our week long 600 mile road trip. I did not use any type of anti rattle device. With the cargo on the back the passengers and dogs loved having the extra room to move around. As all of my vehicles have hitches so this will be a great addition any time we need extra room or carrying capacity. One thing to note if you are not ordering any pins or locks is that a 5/8 inch pin does not work, you need to have a 1/2 inch pin. Luckily I had both so I was able to use my existing hitch receiver lock. I included pictures of it installed on a 1994 GMC G2500 van. I was able to open both rear doors before loading although the door mounted full size spare did eat up a bit of room. The hitch on the van is bent from an accident by the previous owner so on my application the rack does tilt in towards the vehicle a bit. This is solely due to my hitch, not the rack itself. I did try it on my pickup and it sat nice and level. If you are looking for a cargo carrier I highly recommend the Rola. 414706

Brian, any time a hitch or hitch accessory has been involved in an accident, it should be replaced to remedy any unseen damage. Heres a link to both the hitches for the 1994 GMC van. You would just need to filter by whether you have the step bumper:

The Rola carrier has a couple thousand miles on it now after several trips and is still holding up great. I do keep it in the garage when not in use so that helps keep it looking good.

Excellent product. Strongly built; not flimsy at all. I like the vertical rise which increases ground clearance. And the larger grate offer many hook points for cargo so you are not limited to only the edges of the platform. I bought the LED lights. Offers excellent, enhanced visibility day and night. While the rubber inserts for the lens housing are not permanent, they hold the lights very well (if inserted correctly). Also, the wiring harness have sufficient lengths (did they improve it? I know there were complaints), biased with one long and one short. For me, perfect lengths for me to route and hook up to the trailer light socket. I would highly recommend it. I am so very pleased that I have finally bought it. I held out the decision to purchase for over a year! I shouldn't have waited. 55833

I was getting tired of throwing gear on the roof rack struggling to get it down and worring about clearance issues or being top heavy (every Jeepers off-roading nightmare). So I started looking for for the impossible a rack with a low center of gravity, that wouldn't affect my ground clearance and most importantly fit with my 35" spare. I found many hitch basket/rack options but either to flimsy, to low to the ground or required dual hitch mounts. Then I found the Rola cargo carrier on etrailer and started having hope. I knew I would have to modify the rack in order to fit my Jeep but at least I could modify it compared to others. The rack is sturdy and doesn't make me lose any ground clearance. I removed the rear chrome crossmember and added some pipe insulation to prevent the metal tabs from rubbing on my spare (only required on mine because of the oversized spare). As the pictures show it fits like a glove and carried 200 lbs of gear like a mule. I have used in George Washington National Forest, up and down the Blue Ridge Trail and looking at taking on my TAT journey. I would recommend to anybody looking for a quality product for a decent price without having to completely modify their vehicle. 305031

After extensive research I placed the order for the Rola 59502 Cargo Carrier from Etrailer. Free shipping, no sales tax, a price match through Pricepledge that saved me another $37, & the carrier made it to Texas in just 2 days. I'm a 59 yr old widow & had the carrier assembled & installed on my '02 Jeep Wrangler the same afternoon that it arrived. Looks good & feels solid. Will be seeing how it performs in another 4 wks when I take my 60th bday trip to New Mexico. Thank you to Natalie & Judy @ etrailer for the prompt & efficient service provided. 419520

Six months since original review. Over a year of ownership now. Has been on the hitch pretty much continuously for over 6 months, just coming off once to tow a trailer and occassionally clean the receiver and make sure rust wasn't combining the two permanently. Since my apartment complex doesn't let me keep my trailer handy this has all but taken its place. Always in use, always abused, never less than solid. Hitch-Vise anti-rattle bracket also HIGHLY recommended. 30183

This item arrived less than 12 hours from when I ordered it! Fantastic! The carrier itself is as good as I expected. It’s very sturdy, hi quality construction. And it looks great. One of the reasons that I chose this particular rack was that it would likely fit on my jeep and clear the spare tire. Unfortunately, it did not fit. 2 of the pics I posted show this issue. I have a substantial 37” tire and I was about 2 ½” short of getting the pin in, & that’s after removing the curved chrome bar on that side to allow more room. So, I ordered a hitch extension with a 4” drop and I added a hitch tightener from [auto parts store]. It works perfectly. The other pics show it installed with plenty of clearance. Overall, I’m super pleased with this with this cargo carrier. 723232

Glad you were able to make this cargo carrier work for you! Just a reminder that using a hitch adapter or extended reduces your trailer hitch capacity by 50.

Got this for my wife's 17 Pacifica. easy to put together and super sturdy. I will still be welding it together so I don't have to worry about the bolts. I stood on it and at 225 lbs, there was not movement. Multiple tie down points ensure I always have something to latch to that will be strong since this is steel. Nice powder coating on the carrier. I will be using a Curt waterproof bag shortly with this. The retention bolt is a screw in so it tends to discourage someone from stealing it unless they have the tools on hand. 12 bolts and about 10 minutes to install. Very happy. 439084

This is by far the best hitch mounted cargo carrier I have ever seen. It is well made with quality components. Took it on a 750+ mile road trip right out of the box and performance was flawless. Just rock solid with absolutely no vibration. eTrailer always delivered. I ordered it on a Friday and it was delivered on Tuesday ... astonishingly fast for an item that ways close to 70 pounds. eTrailer is the ABSOLUTE BEST on-line retailer ... HANDS DOWN!! 138474

I received my Rola Cargo Carrier within 5 days of ordering it. It was a bit scuffed when I opened the box but the finish was intact. The instructions were easy to follow and I had the whole thing assembled withing 20 minutes of opening the box. I added some reflective tape and just mounted to the back of my Explorer. Looking forward to loading this up with kids college stuff, coolers for camping and hopefully a deer or two this season. 155554

Used it yesterday. Solid materials love the extra ground clearance as i live in an area of steep slopes and hills. I also have a rhino rack on top and i can use my vehicle to move lumber and the rola on the back is rated for 600 lbs great for bags of concrete and landscaping materials. Thanks again etrailer for the sweet selection and prices. 808195

The Rola 59502 cargo carrier arrived on time as estimated in the shipping information. Assembly was very easy. Recommend using a torque wrench to tighten all bolts as shown in the assembly instructions The Rola cargo carrier is built extremely well compared to other cargo carriers. The steel mesh bottom is 2 times as thick and heavy compared to other carriers. This carrier is heavy and may take two people to place into your receiver. The 600 lb capacity is larger than most carriers the slightly angled side walls help with placing larger items in the unit. I installed the Rola 59502 on a 2019 Toyota Tundra, front of truck on a Curt front mount receive. I will place a verity of items in the carrier from large ice chest, gas grill or bicycles. We go camping and bring quite a lot of gear. 807644

Easy to assemble, solid construction. I connected it to the after market trailer hitch that I bought on etrailer no problem. I purchased the rola cargo carrier and tuff back cover bag approx. 1 year ago and have used is several dozen times for things ranging from trips to the lake/beach as well as local firewood pickups to storage unit runs. The carrier is on the heavier side at approx. 70lbs unloaded but the weight makes sense as it is Extremely sturdy—heavy duty for sure. With the threaded bolt you don’t even know it’s on the truck as is doesn’t sway/rock at all even at highway speeds. I routinely put multiple full coolers on it and while I’ve probably never exceeded 200lbs I’ve no doubt it could handle the 600lb max as stated. I love the aggressive look and have received numerous complements on it from individuals who own cheaper less study units. The tuff back bag is very high quality and large enough to encapsulate most anything I would put on the rack or feel comfortable doing so height wise. 100% rain/water resistant and durable enough to shuck off most any road debris. I got both items on approx. 30% sale and would buy them both again tomorrow at full price. I have zero complaints, have been extremely satisfied, and look to have these items around for decades to come. I drive a 2014 4Runner for vehicle info. 779375

This carrier is extremely well made. Attaches securely with no rattle or movement. No twisting or bending in transit. Plenty of strong tie down options and you don't have to worry about the material bending under the tension of ratchet straps. Highest quality carrier I have come across. Not the cheapest option but made to last a lifetime. 730856

The grommets for 2-1/2 inch lamps are a bit too big to fit into a 2-1/2 inch rough opening. The # A56GB grommet for instance, is meant to mount in a 2-3/4 inch rough opening. If you could enlarge the opening to 2-3/4 inches in diameter, then a 2-1/2 inch lamp like # MCL50RB would fit. If you decided to go this route, you'd tie the power for the lamps into the running lamp circuit. A # A46PB pigtail would be needed for each lamp. Honestly, using reflective conspicuity tape like part...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier to Hold 2 Yamaha 2000i Generators on a 5th Wheel Trailer
From what I could find, and correct me if I am wrong, your Yamaha 2000i generators are each 19.3 inches long, 11 inches wide, and 17.9 inches tall. If that is the case then Rola carrier # 59502 is a good option for you. It measures 59 inches long, 22 inches wide, and 4-3/4 inches deep. It also has a 2 inch rise in the shank to hold the cargo up higher. Similar to the Rola carrier we have Tow Ready carrier # 63154. This model has a 3 inch rise in the shank if the 2 inch rise from the...

  • Recommended Cargo Carrier for 10 Inch Ground Clearance from Bottom of Hitch Receiver on Winnebago
For the limited ground clearance, I recommend a carrier with a rise in the shank to give you that additional clearance to avoid dragging or bottoming out. I recommend the 22x59 Rola Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - 600 lbs # 59502 which is extremely strong and has a shank rise of 2 inches. For a folding option, I recommend the 24x60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - Folding - 500 lbs # C18153 or the 20x48 ProSeries # 6502. These will have a similar rise and the biggest...

  • Cargo Carrier Comparison Rola # 59502 Vs. Pro Series Cargo Carrier
Both the Rola Cargo Carrier # 59502 and the Pro Series Cargo Carrier part # 63153 that you referenced would be an excellent choice. The biggest advantage I see for the Pro Series is weight. This carrier weighs 59 lbs whereas the Rola weighs 73 lbs. If the additional weight, price and slightly smaller interior dimensions aren't a problem for you I would go with the Rola. If you don't mind the less appealing looks of the Pro Series I would go with it since from a function point of view...

  • Will Rola 23x56 Cargo Carrier 59502 Work on a Front Mount Hitch Application
Yes, the Rola 23x56 inch cargo carrier can be used for front mount hitches. Just make sure that you do not exceed the tongue weight capacity of the front mount hitch. Also make sure that you do not restrict airflow to the engine radiator to prevent over heating. Additionally, you do not want to restrict the headlights. Any of the 2 inch receiver cargo carriers we have will work with your front mount hitch. Just make sure you are not exceeding weight capacities, blocking too much airflow...

Yes, since your class III hitch has a 2 inch opening, you will be able to use this 23x56 Railed Cargo Carrier for 2 inch Trailer Hitches, part # 59502. This cargo carrier measures 12-7/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the carrier platform. • Cargo Carrier Recommendation for 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited That Allows Rear Cargo Door to Open
Check out the 17x50 MaxxTow Cargo Carrier part # MT70107. We installed this carrier on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler and determined that with the carrier installed the rear door was able to open. I attached a video that shows this. Fast forward to the 30 second mark to see the door open with the carrier installed. This cargo carrier has a 500 lb capacity. The Rola Cargo Carrier part # 59502 that you referenced could not be installed inverted so I would not recommend it for you.

  • Can a Trailer hitch Mount Cargo Carrier be Used to Hold a 185 Pound Generator
A trailer hitch mount cargo carrier would be a good choice to carry your 185 pound generator. You will need one that fits the trailer hitch on the vehicle and that has the size and capacity to hold the generator. The Rola carrier you referenced, # 59502, is designed to fit 2 inch trailer hitch receivers. It has a capacity of 600 pounds so it can easily handle the generator. The usable space is 23 inches by 56 inches so you will want to compare that to the dimensions of the generator. You...
