Video Transcript for MaxxTow 30X50 Wheelchair Carrier Review

Today were going to be taking a look at the MaxxTow 30 x 50 cargo carrier with a 48 inch long ramp for 2-inch hitches rated at 500 pounds, number MT70106. This MaxxTow cargo carrier is a great way to transport mobility wheel chairs, scooters, snow blowers, lawn and garden equipment and other similar cargo. Its also a great way to help keep muddy items from dirtying up the interior of your vehicle. The cargo carrier is made of a sturdy steel construction and has a corrosion resistant black powder coat finish. It has a weight capacity of 500 pounds and comes with a 90 day warranty. Well now go ahead and show you how to install it onto the vehicle.

Now this carrier is kind of heavy so you may need an extra set of hands when lifting it into your hitch. Well slide the shank of the carrier into the opening of the hitch. Well line up the holes in the hitch with the holes in the shank of the cargo carrier and then well slide in our pin and secure it with a clip on the other side. Then take the anti-rattle mechanism and push it up towards the hitch. Loosen up the silver bolt on top to slide this over the shank.

Now with the silver part over the receiver end of the hitch and the front part of the shank, we can tighten down these silver bolts using a wrench to further tighten them down. Now with both of our bolts tightened down, well take these nuts thread them down through the top portion of our anti-rattle device to help prevent the bolts from coming loose. Well then use a wrench to tighten them down. Well now go ahead and pull the silver pin at the base of the carrier to tilt the platform down. Well then replace the pin back into the top hole.

Well now go ahead and fold out the ramp. Well pull out the silver pins on each end of the cargo carrier. Now theres a built-in handle on the back side of the ramp that we can use to pull up and you can see the mesh floor in the bottom of the ramp as well at the platform of the cargo carrier to allow your wheeled items to roll up easy and prevent build-up of mud and dirt and debris. This cargo carrier also has raised rails up here around three-fourths of the cargo carrier to help keep your gear in place and also these holes which give you the versatility of hooking ratchet straps, bungee cords, and rope to secure your gear. Now on the front side of the cargo carrier are two red reflectors on the left and right-hand side to keep your precious items safe from other drivers.

Now that weve gone over some of the special features of the MaxxTow railed cargo carrier and showed you how to install it onto the vehicle, well go ahead and show you how to load up an item. With that in place we can pull our ramp up. Well then take these support bars and there is special holes on the rail of the cargo carrier right here and well thread in the pin through both of those holes and secure it with a clip on the other side. Well then repeat the same process for the other support bar. Now with our ramp all folded up well go ahead and strap down our lawn mower and show you how it looks driving down the road. Now with our lawn mower unloaded, well go ahead and bring the ramp, fold it back in again using that nice nifty handle to help close it. Well reinstall the support bars and then well go ahead and give you another view on how the cargo carrier performs with it folded up when not in use. If you dont have anything on the cargo carrier it can fold flush up against the vehicle. Now there is some wobble when it is folded up so were going to use a strap to help keep the ramp from swinging back and damaging your vehicle. Well then pull the pin here which will allow us to fold it up nicely against the vehicle. Well then replace the pin at the bottom. And that will do it for the review of the MaxxTow ramped cargo carrier with a 48 inch long ramp rated at 500 pounds, part number MT70106. .

I love my rack & ramp. It's a super deal for the price. I am a bit baffled by people who said they could install it alone, as it definitely took 2 of us to do the job. The pictures in the manual were pretty small and we did some putting together, then taking apart and redoing it, but all in all, it wasn't a bad job. The video online is helpful, but doesn't address assembly of the rack at all. Assembly is required and takes more time than actually installing the unit itself. The anti rattle device had to be installed upside down, due to lack of clearance between the bumper and the anti rattle collar. Delivery was fast, but was almost a disaster, as one label listed my address as Avenue and the other as Circle; I actually live on Terrace. But lucky for me, the UPS driver recognized my name and delivered it properly anyway (and pointed out the error on the labels when he did). Thank you UPS! I am finding the pin you use to lift and lower the rack to be a bit tight and hard to deal with, but for now, I carry a small hammer and punch. I am thinking this may get easier over time? I don't need to constantly raise and lower the rack, so I don't think this will be a big problem. One thing I did not anticipate was that the rack, when vertical, blocks most of the images from my back up camera. Not a big deal, but just FYI. This means back to using mirrors to back up! 226309

The MaxxTow Wheelchair Carrier. The product is very sturdy, assembled easily. The ramp is quite adequate for the low to the ground Ford Flex hitch height. I ordered this from etrailer and did not have time to receive it at home before leaving on vacation. Thanks to etrailer & UPS for three day shipping I received it at my hotel in Oklahoma, where I assembled it and put it to good use. The only complaint I have for MaxxTow is there were no assembly instructions on line. True, its not very complicated, however a tool list would have been nice to have. It all worked out because the nice maintenance man at the hotel loaned me some tools and 45 minutes later it was assembled and the scooter was loaded and ready to go. The Carrier got a good test of over 2500 miles from Oklahoma to California. The only issue was going over steep drive ways with the Ford Flex it is low and drags if you don't take it at an angle. A good product for a fair price. 546462

I love the MT70106 Cargo Carrier. It transports my Invacare Lynx L4 Mobility Scooter. It arrived in 2 days. I needed a carrier that could reverse the on-ramp from passenger-to-driver side. My vehicle is a 2013 Nissan Rogue and I had problems clearing some "unfamiliar" driveways and railroad tracks. No problem! I immediately called etrailer.com, ordered a 6" Riser/Drop and in just 2 days more, the problem was solved. All is well and I am happy! The best part of the experience was the representatives: Brian, Lacey and Lazer. They were the kindest folks ever. Each of them took time and answered all my questions down to details about the size and strength of the screws. The shipping was (deep south) FAST!!! Totally satisfied! 545184

I was a little leery ordering a carrier for my mobility scooter on the Internet, but I couldn't be more pleased with the one I received from etrailer.com. It is very well made with very sturdy steel throughout, all welds are smooth, and there are no sharp edges that could catch clothing or cause injury. I like how I have the ability to old the carrier when I'm not using it to transport my scooter, and I discovered yesterday that when the tailgate on my pickup is open I can use a hand truck to cart heavy objects up on to the carrier making it easier to load because there isn't such a large step up to get items into the pickup bed. This is a quality product, much better than others I'd looked at at mobility stores at twice the price. And the shipping was fast and it was delivered right to my door. I highly recommend etrailer.com and this mobility scooter carrier for anyone looking for a carrier or anything else they could want relating to trailers, carriers, and accessories. 110412

I just put this together this afternoon. I sent the first one back because when I got to the last bolt, the holes weren't drilled properly. I contacted etrailer and they took good care of me in helping me return the first carrier and sending a replacement. I was a little frustrated by the vagueness and small print on the instructions but it still only took me about 30 minutes to put it together. I had to do it on my own since my husband is totally disabled, and it was totally doable. Can't wait to load up husband's motorized chair and see how the carrier does. 381271

Thank you for reaching out. We still have the cargo carrier and its working well for transporting my husbands motorized wheelchair. There are two things about the carrier that I would change the ramp length is too short and the carrier tilts down when my husbands wheelchair is loaded on. I bought a portable threshold ramp that we take with us when we take the wheelchair, it helps with loading and unloading the wheelchair. When we travel, the wheelchair tends to move back toward the end of the carrier where the lowest point is. Sometimes its made it difficult to unload the chair because the tie down straps get caught under the chair after it shifts to the back of the ramp. On the positive side, Im usually able to load and unload the chair by myself. Im not sure if Id buy this carrier for an electric wheelchair, I think its probably more suited for lighter equipment.

I carried a 330 pound wheelchair on the platform for less than a week and it warped the mesh on the ramp. The platform held up well but I worry about using it again this year for my friend because if the ramp breaks down it could ruin his wheelchair leaving him in a terrible position. If I had been using the platform every day for this whole year I am sure it would be in pieces. It was supposed to handle 500 pounds so I am not sure why the ramp has such damage with only 330 pounds in under a week. 348021

Comments

I have now used the platform twice. Both times the platform was used once a day for about a week. So that is only 2 weeks of total use of the platform since purchase. The platform is carrying an electric wheelchair for a friend. The first week the ramp became warped. The mesh started becoming indented. The second week one of the hinges popped a weld. It almost made using it impossible and would have left my friend completely stranded on the opposite side of the country to where he lives with no way too transport his wheelchair. He would have had to drive his wheelchair 80 miles to the airport in order to get home!Unfortunately after only 2 weeks of use the platform is now unusable.

I used the product for hauling a piece of equipment that fell well under the weight this product is rated for. On it's first trip, the main support bent and we are no longer able to use this product. 566639

I am returning the carrier as it is not usable. I put my snowblower on it and one end of the carrier twisted to the point that it was less than 12 inches from the ground. I am putting it on a Town and Country which doesn't have a lot of clearance from the receiver hitch to begin with. I would suggest that you add text to your order site warning customers to measure how much clearance they have will be reduced even more by the carrier. A minimum number should be set. 67849

I would not buy this again. I have been carrying my 180b powerwasher daily and it is already rusting out and sagging. I am at the point where I am afraid to carry anything on it in fear that I might dump it on the road. Not rated for 500lbs. Not rated for 200 lbs.

On our Dodge Magnum, receiver hitch will be 12 inches off ground at its top ten inches at its bottom. Our load is about 200 lbs. In your opinion, will this carrier work?

-- comment by: Rick - 08/01/2013

It could work, but it will be low. Depending on the load in the carrier and the cargo area of the Magnum, the suspension may compress enough that the carrier would be too low. There are cargo carriers with a rise built into the shank, to give it some more clearance. Take a look at the Rola 59502 for an example of a raised shank. We do not have any raised shank carriers with a load ramp like the this one. All the ramped carriers we have are straight shank.

Carrie was exactly what I expected. It was easy to assemble. I bought this to carry a pride motorized mobility scooter. It fit perfect and was perfect ramp angle/degree for easy loading of scooter without tires slipping on ramp. 528494

Acquired the carrier to transport a 3500 watt generator on a Ford F450. Assembly instructions are straightforward and easy to follow. Pin alignment when securing the carrier in either position is a bit challenging - had to wiggle it back and forth - but once pinned, the carrier road well (in the stored position). It does require a standard two inch receiver - mine was a 2.5 inch receiver with adapter sleeve so I had to do a little adjustment for the anti-rattle device to work. Even so, the system is good quality per price. Construction is sound but I would recommend not pushing the weight limits. It does double for a nice access ramp for walking up to enter the shell we have in the back of the pickup. Using two adjustable jack stands provide stability when on the job site. Good product at a decent price. eTrailer was excellent to do business with too. They notified me via email my item was in stock and when it shipped. No regrets. 126147

I decided to purchase a wheelchair Carrier that attaches to my trailer hitch. I do not need it for wheelchair, however I do wish to haul a snowblower, and other similar equipment, therefore I wanted a sturdy carrier with the ramp that folds. I ordered the carrier and received Immediate confirmation when it was shipped. Also I was able to track the shipment directly to my door. When I removed it from the box, I found it well packaged, and was very surprised to see how sturdy and well constructed the carrier was. It required minimal assembly, and had good instructions. I mounted to the vehicle and carried my (large) snowblower to test it. It worked perfectly, and was very stable. It is refreshing to buy something from a company who Ships when promised, has your product arrive when promised, and gives you a product it's every bit as good as you could've expected, and more. I will definitely buy products from e-trailer again. Very very satisfied. Ed 320320

Our daughter lives in a duplex that she has to maintain, including snow removal. My husband selected this hitch carrier (the MaxxTow 30x50 Carrier) to haul our snow blower to help her out. He is very pleased by how sturdy and well made it is. It will mount perfectly on our vehicle. I called in so we could ask questions. Donna was so helpful with questions, placing and verifying our order. An added bonus was the sale price and no shipping fee! I am sure my husband will find other uses. Definitely recommend this product and etrailer.com. 607174

I use the cargo hitch every week and often multiple days in a row for work. I used to breakdown my magliner/camera cart before and after set as well as for location moves during a shoot, but now i just ramp it up and ratchet the cart to the carrier. -I have not noticed any significant swaying or movement when it is in the down position and my 4Runner drives like nothing is there. -When in the upright position, the carrier has a tendency to lean right or left when I turn, so i just fasten it with the same ratchets that I use for securing my cart. -It weighs about 80 pounds and can be a little tricky to attach solo, but ive got a quick little system and now its no problem. I also generally leave it on. -with its frequent use, the 2" square connecting shaft has bent a few degrees, probably from some low speed road impacts when going through dips in driveways, etc, so it doesnt sit evenly off the back of my 4Runner, but thats not terrible, it just looks wonky when folded up and when in use in the down position. -It has made some loud scratching sounds when it drags on the asphalt, maybe some plastic casters would be a good idea. -I like that it clears my lights and license plate. -The anti-rattle/stabilization block doesnt cinch down on a 4Runner hitch due to no clearance and welding spots, maybe it does on other vehicles. -I have otherwise found it to be very solid, out of my view when driving, and well worth the buy. I have had a few in the past and this is the best for my application. 294733

I purchased this carrier because it did not have any of the complaints that I saw about other carriers that cost a bit less. I plan to use it for a snowblower, a walk behind leaf blower, and other large equipment. Took about an hour to assemble, and at least half of that was just learning the product. It is an excellent product and worth the money. All of the holes are drilled properly, and the quality is superb. I was able to put it Into the hitch alone by putting it into the vertical position and then lifting it up to the hitch on a 2016 Honda Pilot. Loading a snowblower was a breeze. No significant sagging of the carrier, about one inch with 200 lbs on it. The longer 48" ramp, as opposed to the standard 42" ramp, makes it possible to pull a 200 lb snowblower onto the carrier from the side without even going up onto the carrier. No problem driving at all. The instructions were clear. The anti-wiggle device works well. Any wiggle in the carrier was eliminated by tightening up the bolts on the hitch pivot piece as needed. The carrier pays for itself in one year by avoiding the service cost of pick up and return of heavy equipment like a snowblower, leaf blower, power washer or generator. Plus now I can take the equipment to my daughter's house to help out. Very happy with the purchase of this quality product. 238280

Bought this to haul my generators and lawnmowers. This is the perfect size for my 200 lb. generator. Package came very quick by UPS. Package was in good shape with NO damage. Easy to assemble. All pieces and parts were included with excellent instructions. I assembled it and installed by myself in one hour. The anti-rattle adaptor fit perfect, even though I have a 2 &1/2 inch hitch receiver with a 2 inch adaptor. The ramp fits perfect in the bed of my truck, with my fifth wheel hitch if I have to tow my fifth wheel or boat. Ramp was easy to insert in the receiver by using my 2 wheeled dolly to assist in getting it started, which reduced the total weight of the ramp. Another excellent product from E Trailer. 507918

I did receive the product. I ordered a 30x50. On the package it's called a 28x48 platform size. That seems deceptive to me. After 3 phone calls to your company, your representative told the the description on your website does specify the platform size. So this is my fault, but even your employees are deceived. I think it really stinks that I have to pay $60 to ship it back, and I still don't have a usable product. Your customer service person was very kind and all she could to solve the situation. The problem now is, because of the $60 I have wasted, I can't afford what I need. I am totally dissatisfied with my experience with your company. 461324

I purchased this product to haul a snowblower with my 2013 Highlander. The carrier was easy to assemble, probably 30-45 minutes. I've used it once, it seems very sturdy and strong, the ramp is easy to deploy, and it folds up easily. My only caution is that my hitch receiver is low, and the carrier does drop down a bit from front to back. The carrier did scrape when I pulled into a driveway. 728698

The carrier will work perfect for my use. My only recommendation would be better packaging. It's all nicely painted when it goes in shipping box but since no other packaging material is used in shipping many areas have the paint rubber off down to bare metal from rubbing against cardboard. I painted it with rustoleum paint and it was assembled. 681800

Product arrived 2 days early (good), box condition (bad). Was concerned with box condition but carrier was fine. I would suggest flipping the carrier over to attach the support bracket as it is difficult to align bolt holes when it is right side up as in the directions. Just make sure the ramp is secure when turning over. All bolt holes and pins lined up without any issue. Only issue I have is the Anti-Tilt Locking Bracket does not fit over the hitch receiver. My receiver has a rounded lip on the end so it does not fit in the bracket which I assume it is supposed to. Will be using it to haul lawnmower and yard equipment. 655813

I ordered the DRAW-TITE 75742 HITCH for my 2014 Honda CR-V, and it bolts on PRECISELY. The MAX-TOW 70106 is the perfect match to carry up to 300+ pound scooters and electric wheel chairs. The anti-vibration collar included with the MAX-TOW actually works! If you shake the carrier, the whole car moves with it. No rattles, no worries. Both products arrived a few days before the promised date. I believe each unit is a two-man job unless you have a high lift, and you really should have a torque wrench (up to 40 foot-pounds) available. 598895

Have not taken it out of the box; probably won't until I need it to transport snowblower to service next spring. So I cannot comment on its quality. Regardless, Angela was simply OUTSTANDING during the ordering process -- professional, kind, patient, informative. It was a good experience. And, FYI, the delivery occurred three days before we were told it would arrive ... so that was a bit disconcerting from our planning point of view. I'm sure the product will be as good as your customer service. 585240

Quick delivery. One part was missing but customer service was great and mailed me the missing part. The trailer was easy to put together on my own, although had a minor hiccup when two holes were not lined up for the hitch pin. A quick use of a file and the pin fit. It is a little heavy, but I was able to hook it up. Looking forward to using it this winter for my snowblower. 584288

Ask the Experts about this MaxxTow Hitch Cargo Carrier

Do you have a question about this Hitch Cargo Carrier?

  • Can 120 Pound Scooter be Transported with 2018 Hyundai Elantra SE
  • It may be possible to transport your 120 pound scooter using a hitch-mounted carrier on your 2018 Hyundai Elantra SE. Both trailer hitches available for your Elantra, the Draw-Tite # 24964 and the Curt # C11424, are Class I models with a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. Between the two options I recommend going with the Draw-Tite # 24964 because of its hidden crosstube design where only the receiver is visible behind the vehicle (see attached image). With the hitch in place...

  • 60 x 36 Trailer Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
  • I have a solution for you, however there isn't a carrier that's exactly what you're looking for. Instead, I recommend the similarly sized 32 x 72 Let'sGoAero Gear Cage FP6, part # H01397 and the 30 x 50 MaxxTow Wheelchair Carrier, part # MT70106. The Let'sGoAero Gear Cage FP6 features a slide-out carrier that allows rear hatch access while boasting a 300 pound capacity. This solid floor carrier is appropriate for a wide range of vacation and camping uses, as well as handy around...

  • RV Hitch Carrier for Transporting Honda 7000W Generator
  • We offer lots of hitch-mount cargo carriers and for use with a larger generator like the Honda 7000W (which has wheels) I suggest a ramped carrier. The 30 x 50-inch MaxxTow Ramped Carrier # MT70106 offers interior dimensions 48 long x 28 wide x 5-inches deep. It also has a 500-lb capacity and includes an anti-rattle device. For an anti-rattle hitch lock use part # 63232. You'll also need some type of tie-downs to secure the generator to the carrier. I suggest a set such as # IMF12637. Be...

This Draw-Tite Max Frame carrier provides a solid base for your vehicle to carry numerous hitch mounted accessories. • Trailer Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier for Carrying Beach Gear and Cornhole Boards
  • I have a few recommendations for you, and a few details about picking a basket. That being said, I have three recommendations that fit what you are looking for in terms of size. First, the Maxx Tow 27 x 47 Cargo Carrier with 60-Inch ramp, part # MT70275 . This aluminum carrier has a ramp mounted to the left side, making loading and unloading coolers a snap. Additionally, with an open bar design, sand and water from the beach gear will fall straight through, keeping your vehicle's...

  • Generator Cargo Carrier for a 2000 Honda Odyssey
  • Your best setup is going to be a Class III trailer hitch with a ramped carrier, given the dry weight of the generator. 300 pounds is a pain to lift off of the ground even once, so we'll stick to ramps. Prior to equipping the hitch, you'll want to verify your vehicle's towing and tongue weight capacity with your owner's manual or manufacturer. For the trailer hitch, your best option is the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver, part # 75270. This provides the ability to take advantage...

  • Hitch Cargo Carrier Recommendation for Carrying a Generator
  • Your Dodge Ram dually truck should have a hitch with plenty of tongue weight capacity, but you might still check to make sure the hitch is rated to carry the weight of your generator. To make loading the generator easier (if it has wheels), you could use a cargo carrier with a ramp like the part # MT70106. This carrier has a 500 lb capacity so it should handle the weight of your generator easily. If you would prefer one without a ramp the Pro Series Carrier part # 63153 would also...

This carrier has a 500 lb capacity with dimensions of 30 inches by 50 inches, a 60 inch ramp and is made of aluminum to resist corrosion. • Best Cargo Carrier with Ramp Options for a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse with the Factory Tow Package
  • I have 2 different recommendations for you that have to do with the functionality of the cargo carriers. One of the key components in looking at cargo carriers is that they are on the lighter side of things so that they don't eat up your Tongue Weight (TW) which takes away from how much cargo you can carry. The MaxxTow 30x50 Wheelchair Carrier # MT70106 is a great product that weighs about 85 lbs. This is made of steel, comes with a single ramp, has the option to fold up without cargo,...

  • Cargo Carrier with Ramp Recommendation for a Transporting a Snowblower
  • For a great cargo carrier with ramp that would work well for you without breaking the bank I would recommend the MaxxTow 30x50 Wheelchair Carrier # MT70106. The internal dimensions of the carrier are 28 inches by 48 inches. So to clear your handles that measure 54 inches long you will need to load the carrier handle first so that they clear the ramp when it's folded up. • I contacted Permobil to find out the weight of their C300 power chair and it weighs 350-lbs including the batteries. We do indeed offer several ramped carriers that will have the capacity for this chair and that also will fit a 2-inch hitch. • Do Cargo Carriers Need To Be Registered Like a Trailer
  • The MaxxTow # MT70106 Cargo Carrier isn't a trailer. Rather than being towed behind the vehicle, the carrier attaches to the 2 inch trailer hitch. The carrier doesn't have wheels or a VIN number, so it doesn't meet the legal definition of a trailer. However, there are two possible legal ramifications of using a cargo carrier. 1) If the carrier or the items placed on it blocks the taillights, you'll want to install a light kit on the carrier. We offer the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2, part # HR1450Z-E-TRKADP3 that can carry one trike and a regular two wheeled bike. The rack can accommodate two bikes weighing up to a combined 100 lbs. The rack is only compatible with 2 inch receiver hitches, and is capable of folding.

  • Steel or Aluminum Cargo Carrier Recommendation for Transporting an Aluminum Cargo Carrier
  • Since you are planning on transporting a snow blower you would definitely want the aluminum carrier part # MT70100 over the steel one part # MT70106. The reason I say this is that if you are transporting a snow blower there is going to be salt on the roads. Salt has little to no effect on aluminum but will cause steel to corrode quickly. Check out the review video I attached for the # MT70100.

  • Tongue Weight Capacity for Honda CR-V w/ Hitch Cargo Carrier
  • Tongue weight typically refers to the vertical load on the trailer hitch as well as any cargo weight behind the rear axle. That said, not every manufacturer follows this guideline so it might vary. I looked up the 2016 Honda CR-V owners manual and it states that the towing capacity is 1,500 lbs and the tongue weight capacit is 10 percent of that, 150 lbs. I am not sure what manual you found but you might check with Honda with you VIN to verify the capacity.

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier that Can Fold to Carry a Lawn Mower on a 2013 Toyota RAV4
  • First, if I can address the lawn mower, it would be a tight fit. There are other carriers that might be a better option as far as fitting the lawn mower and ease of loading. For the fit when folded you will need to look at the distance from the center of your hitch pin hole straight back to the distance required to clear the rear of the vehicle. When folded the carrier is 3 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole so your measurement would have to be less than that for it to fit. You...

TW is the downward force placed on a hitch by either a trailer or from an item such as a hitch-mounted scooter carrier. Most scooter carriers available are intended for vehicles with a 2-inch hitch, such as the MaxxTow ramped carrier # MT70106, but only 1-1/4-inch hitches are offered for your 2003 Elantra. • Holding a Wheelchair on a Thule Trunk Mounted Bike Rack

This is an exceedingly dangerous use of the Thule Passage though. You will be much better off in the long term adding a hitch like part # 13707, a Class III Curt hitch to carry a traditional cargo carrier.
