I chose this carrier due to being the lightest weight for its size and load rating. Additionally, I was looking for a dual purpose carrier to haul bulky items outside the vehicle and full sized mountain bikes. The carrier is simple to assemble, easy to install/remove, and store. As for hauling mountain bikes, I added a fork axle mount to a piece of oak. Bottom line - for less than the price of dedicated hitch bike rack with the optionality to haul firewood and fuel to the trailhead it's worked great. 373088

I've had this carrier for over a year now and used on several long, medium, and short trips. My brother borrows it frequently as well. It's very well built and strong. The very best feature is that it's so light weight, moving it around, installing and removing is so easy. It is also very nice to have a fold-up feature when not in use, but you still want to keep it attached to the hitch. Get it! You won't regret it. 383902

I bought this cargo carrier to haul my wife's wheelchair when we go on vacation. The "foldable connection bar" is not long enough to let me fold the cargo carrier up on my 2013 Subaru Crosstrek. I could have bought an aluminum carrier locally that did not fold up. 544063

On the hitch mounted accessories we offer, we always provide the clearance distance necessary to install and fold when applicable the carrier or bike rack. If you use the provided link, you can see a help article that explains how to measure in order to determine the needed clearance.

First off, etrailer is awesome. I placed my order over the phone so I could ask if it was possible to have it shipped to me before a certain date. Nicole took my order, ensured me it would be there, and even followed up to make sure it shipped out the same day. Received it exactly when she told me I would. First Impression: Everything arrived on time and assembly took about 30 minutes. The basket is aluminum, but the support pieces and main shank looks to be carbon steel (I think, did not feel like scratching it to be sure). These pieces are thick, so I am not too worried about corrosion. I may just have to keep the paint touched up on these parts. Assembly: Some of the instructions could be a little more clear showing what piece goes on top of the other, and I would prefer to have a toque spec. It was difficult at times to hold a piece in place and tighten the bolt/nut. Overall, it was not bad though. Some misalignment of the pin holes at the folding joint when first assembled, but pin was able to go through with a little maneuvering. It may have adjusted itself going down the road because the pin goes in an out fairly easy now. I also added a little grease in the folding joint to prevent scratches/rust to the area since I do not think it is aluminum. Appearance and Fit: The carrier look is great. Unit is lightweight and easy to handle. Good fit for my 2017 Frontier with a 2" drawtite hitch using a j-hook anti-rattle pin. Very glad I got a carrier that folds up! Once the cooler was unloaded, I did not have to take the unit off the hitch to run errands and park in parking lots. Travel: Hauled a large ice chest (~60lbs) for a 4 hour round trip this weekend without issues. Ratchet strap bends the lip of the carrier in a little to get everything very tightly tied down, but that is not an issue for me. Everything road very well and no measurable affect to the vehicle or rattling noises. This was a test run, but I am confident that I could haul more weight without issue. Pros: Lightweight, Good Look, Folding, Aluminum basket should reduce maintanence Cons: Shank and bracing appear to be painted/coated carbon steel (not aluminum), Assembly could have been easier and instructions could have been a little more more specific 619538

Instructions were good product is excellent. Product arrived ahead of schedule and I was able to get it assembled shortly thereafter. Check my photos. My hitch clamp would not work with the product and I need a storage box. 665976

Very easy to assemble but it did not fit in the upright position on my 2011 Chevy Traverse. The license plate is in the bumper and the sides of the carrier impact the bumper on either side of the license plate when folded upright. The sides of the license plate are molded plastic that protrude from the bumper to house the lights for the plate. The simple fix was to bend the sides in a bit. That solution was better than trying to figure out how to extend the carrier further from the bumper to allow for another inch of clearance. The bend was easy using vice grips as the sides are aluminum. For the price and the 2X/year that I'll use this for beach chairs or extra luggage it's fine despite the fact it was not a perfect fit. What I like best is that it folds up and that it is very lightweight. It would be easy to stow on the roof rack if parking is tight or just to get it out of the way when accessing the trunk. And it'll come in handy if I ever have to haul the mower or blower to the shop since it's low ground clearance makes for easy loading and will keep my vehicle's interior from getting dirty. It would be nice if it came with a license plate holder that could be used in both flat and upright positions. I'll drill holes in the sides to mount the plate. A notice should be included to ensure that the license plate is not blocked from view when in use. We are driving to FL again this year and our concern is that Barney Fife will hassle us for an obstructed view of the plate. Last year we used a turtle top carrier but it is so high up on an SUV its impractical for quick trips to the beach. This carrier will be great for the cooler and sandy beach chairs and stuff. I'm thinking a large mesh utility bag to help keep all the stuff contained and make securing the load easier would be a nice extra. Last, it shipped on time and the order was complete with an additional item , a hitch lock, that all arrived in perfect condition. You need a lock for this b/c it is so light it'd probably be gone if you left it unlocked in a parking lot. Ordering was very easy! Thanks E-Trailer 476202

The carrier worked great. I purchased a large nylon cargo bag that not only kept stuff clean and dry it gave added peace of mind to ensure my stuff stayed put. I found a license plate holder that I attached to the bottom so when folded up I could move my plate from the rear side of the tray to the bottom mount quickly by using wing nuts. I looped two ratchet tie down straps around the base of each rear door shock and then hooked them to the the outside corners of the tray to keep it from sagging and wobbling. The straps also gave peace of mind when hitting bumps in the road that would otherwise make me cringe thinking it would reduce the stress on the unit overall. I recommend padding if you are using a cargo bag to prevent the metal from wearing on the bag. The downside of not using the turtle roof cargo carrier is that having stuff easily accessible from the ground means you have to be more vigilant about security when stopping to eat. We did not not over night anywhere but had we I probably would have taken all my stuff off the tray and into the room which is something you might not have to do with a lockable rooftop carrier. But for day trips to the beach you cant beat the value bc it is close to the ground and keeps all the sandydirty stuff outside and or off your roof rack.

Great product. Exactly as advertised!!!! After reading many other product reviews I settled on Curt because. I’ve used their products in the past and know their quality is above reproach. The one thing that made this the best is the ease of putting it together. In 45 minutes I had it on the explorer and carrying garden refuse to the recycle landfill. Have not used on a long trip yet but will be going to Colorado in a couple weeks and will give it a good workout. I’m a graybeard and the aluminum frame makes it easy to handle, putting on and off . Reason we bought the extension was because its getting harder to put the roof rack on and off the explorer. Looking forward to years of using it. This is a top of the line product. 528124

Great product once assembly is complete. Very light weight. I can easily lift the entire carrier with one arm. I'm not sure how it will hold 500lbs though because it feel so light...but Curt says it does so I will give it a try in a few weeks. The carrier wobbles just a little bit in the receiver but not enough to cause any concern or disappointment with the overall product. Two negatives though: 1. Assembly was easy but the instructions were completely crappy. If your not able to read a picture or have trouble following vague directions you may take a little longer to get this thing put together. 2. I can not fold the carrier all the way up. It hits my bumper. I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and need about 1/4 inch more clearance to get the carrier up and in the locked position. I will have to buy an extender to use this feature. As with other stuff from etrailer, it came fast. There werent any holes in the box (unlike my trailer hitch) and the product was in great shape. Good customer service and the carrier got here a day earlier than scheduled. 28155

I've only used this a couple times in the year I've had this, but it was great for a 10 hour trip to Ocean City, Md and the return trip. I love that it's lightweight and rigged it up to hang from the ceiling in my garage. 819406

I really want to like this product. It is lightweight and very easy to install on my hitch. I use it about a dozen times a year to carry gas cans to refill my boat. It’s the ideal size and carries the cans quite well. Unfortunately is is already beginning to show signs of wear with some of the welds holding the base mesh to the frame failing. There are also a few dents developing in the mesh where the wheels on my gas tank meet the base. Giving how few times I’ve used it, and how little time it has spent on the car, I am very surprised to see these failures. I have some concerns about long-term durability. That said, it still works great for what I need and am happy that it is so easy to install. 817872

Light weight but strong. Works great for hauling whatever (gas cans etc.) with plenty of attachment points but is too close to vehicle when folded up (hits when road is bumpy) so I can't use it that way. The receiver was installed out as far as possible too. 809680

Could not be better. Aluminum light and sturdy. Stores easily, carries easily. I have it on a Jeep Wrangler with a tire on the back. The hing is not long enough to let me fold the carrier up when not in use. For someone ordering for a Jeep you may want to take this into consideration. No matter the carrier is a great buy. 793604

This cargo carrier is amazing. Easy to assemble, and once assembled, it folds for easy storage. Best of all, it's one of the lightest carriers and I can maneuver it myself without requiring hernia surgery afterwards. We used it on a 2000 mile road trip, loaded up with overflow luggage in a cargo bag and not one moment's issue with the thing. Really great, reliable product that's super easy to use. 786514

The aluminum folding cargo carrier we offer is the Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C18100. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the carrier when folded up is 5 inches. The carrier we offer that has the greatest distance is the Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier, part # C18153. It measures 9 inches when folded up from the center of the hitch...

  • Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device Recommendation for 2017 Toyota Tacoma
None of our cargo carriers were intended for off-road use but the Curt cargo carrier part # C18100 does have a 500 lb capacity when used in on-road applications. I attached a test course video for you to check out that shows you how stable it will be on the highway when in use and loaded. For a hitch lock that doubles as an anti-rattle device we have the part # 63232 which would work well. It holds the shank of the carrier tight to the hitch tube which prevents it from moving.

  • Could Platform of Curt Hitch Rack C18100 be Stolen Easily
We don't have locks for the bolt and pin you pointed out. Which it is a valid point that you mentioned them, but it would take someone showing up with the right size wrenches to remove the platform if they really wanted it, and then they'd only have a platform for a rack. Most thieves would want the whole thing and not just the platform so it really wouldn't be a huge risk.

  • Would the Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18100 Fit a 2013 Honda Pilot
In order to determine if the Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18100 will clear your rear bumper when installed you will need to take one simple measurement. You will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the furthest point out on the rear bumper. If that distance is less than 6 inches this carrier will fit and work well. Check out the review video I attached that shows this carrier being demoed on a similar Pilot as yours as well as the help article I attached that shows...

  • How Close to Exhaust is Curt Cargo Carrier # C18100 on a 2017 Honda CR-V
When we test fit the Curt cargo carrier part # C18100 on a similar 2014 Honda CR-V we found that there was 14 inches from the exhaust to the rail edge of the carrier. For a small displacement engine like what your vehicle has that should be plenty of clearance to prevent any melting so you should be fine.

  • Recommended Lightweight Cargo Carrier for a Wheelchair
Yes, we have two very similar cargo carriers that will work for you and are constructed of aluminum so they will be lightweight. The MaxxTow Cargo Carrier part # MT70108 which measures 49" long x 22-1/2" wide and the MaxxTow Cargo Carrier part # MT70422 which measures 49-1/4" long x 22-1/4" wide. The former has tall raised side walls and weighs 29 lbs whereas the latter has short raised side walls and weighs 23 lbs. The above two options will be the closest match to the Curt Cargo Carrier...

  • Recommendation to Reduce Movement and Deter Theft of Curt Cargo Carrier
You can indeed drive with the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18100 folded up in its storage position. You will just want to make sure that it does not block the license plate or tail lights on your Ford Expedition when it is in this position. As long as you have a few inches of clearance between the rear bumper and carrier when it is folded, you shouldn't have any issues with it bumping against the vehicle during travel. I am not sure what type of hitch lock you have for the carrier, but if...

  • How Is the Curt Cargo Tray Secured In Folded Upright Position
The Curt # C18100 is secured with a pin and clip that makes sure that it stays locked in the upright position when folded up towards the back of the vehicle. Our review video that Randy did, which is linked to this answer, shows you how it operates. You could potentially use a locking hitch pin like the # e98880 but I don't believe it's going to substantially improve the stability over the included hitch pin.
