Similar to others, the pin provided does not go all the way through on a factory oem Toyota hitch. Contacted help desk 3 times without a solution. I was hoping etrailer could provide an adequate trailer hitch pin. I had also bought a trailer hitch lock that was recommended for the bike rack but it is also too short and it is not threaded so stuck with a lock I can not use.

Rack itself is not bad, I just can't use it safely until I find a pin that can secure the bike rack. It requires an odd sized pin because it is a threaded anti sway pin, I believe it is 1/2" threaded but tech support was not able to help.

Overall disappointed in experience, I will keep looking for a hitch pin that will work.

Pictures included are of a toyota hitch.

I looked into this and found that part # e98911
Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin and Clip for etrailer Cargo Carrier - 2-1/2" Hitches
would work with the bike rack and be long enough to work with the factory OEM Toyota hitch.

This is the second one of these bike racks that I've purchased. I've had several Thule racks, but this is by far the simplest and easiest to use. I lent my first rack to my kids and it has stayed there. I needed an easy way to transport bikes for myself and my wife with minimum hassle. I use this rack on my Ford F-250, no need to take up bed space and worry about the bikes bouncing around in the bed. My truck does have a 2 1/2" receiver, so I picked up the adapter sleeve and also purchased the longer pin to accommodate the larger hitch. All components work flawlessly. Installing the rack is as easy as sliding the tube into the receiver and the loading of the bikes is done by setting the bike tube on the cradle and securing the Velcro strap. The bikes don't go anywhere and ride securely. It doesn't get any easier. I don't know how you can go wrong with this rack, especially for the price.

Very sturdy, missing a few of the bells and whistles of the more expensive styles, but seems to get the job done. Bolt provided is not long enough to fit all the way through the factory hitch on an Outback (see picture), so a clevis pin can't be used for the extra safety factor.

I haven't gotten to use this bike rack yet, but it looks very well made and was priced right. I'm sure that it will work fine.

Upon initial unboxing this thing is big and beefy, which I appreciate. After laying out all the parts and doing an inventory I found that I was missing a set of washers on the two small bolts that connect the lower portion with the top portion of the rack. The bolts and nylon locknuts we’re still able to pull it together but missing the washers is annoying. Also where that section comes together now seems to rattle no matter how tight I make the bolts. Otherwise the components seem very durable and well-made. The welds look average quality and the Loctite on the small stainless bolts at the top is a nice touch. The hook and loop straps are beefy and thick and give me confidence they’re gonna last a long time. The only other issue is it uses a threaded bolt instead of a standard pin in your trailer receiver. I saw other reviews were people stated their bolts were too short, and unfortunately this also seems to be the case with mine where the bolt needs to be about a half inch longer. I think I understand the reason they use a threaded bolt to make it extra tight and prevent rattling as well as make it harder to steal, however I REALLY wish they had just used a standard pin like on all of my other trailers and accessories so then I could just use a pin that I already had versus using this bolt. The other aggravating part about the threaded bolt is it does take a few extra minutes and sometimes I just wanna pull up and quickly change over to a trailer or a ball receiver but with this threaded bolt it takes longer and gets more aggravating because I essentially have to get on the ground to reach up under my vehicle. But again, my bolt is too short to successfully reach all the way through my receiver anyway so I am just going to drill it out and use a standard pin.

Long time etrailer customer, and will continue to be. I think for the price the rack is a good value and I am ultimately glad with my purchase.

I am sorry to hear that you had such a hard time with this bike rack. I have sent your information over to our customer service department for them to help you get the missing items that you need. They should also be able to assist you in getting an item to lessen the rattling, with more details.

As previous reviews state the hitch pin is too short for my 2 inch truck (Silverado) receiver. The pin screws through nicely enough but is too short for the cotter pin to engage. I will have to go with just the pin threaded and monitor the trip for loosening. Otherwise my bikes will become "sail-bikes" on Interstate 5. As for the manufacturing. Great product for the price. Sturdy, strong parts are a plus. I would have given this a higher rating if the hitch pin was longer or no threads at all to allow for a longer hitch pin.

To be safe, I recommend using a hitch pin that will be long enough to use the hitch clip with it. We do have a longer pin available. It is part # e98911

Terrible! Omg do your engineers not know what a slip fit is? At least 1/8" of play if not 3/16" in reciever. I have to use ratchet straps from bikes to the recievers chain slots to secure. My bad for waiting last minuet to put this together for a mountain bike trip to upper Michigan otherwise I would have returned. See attached video. Expected better from etrailer extremely disappointed

You mentioned that the bike rack had a lot of play in the receiver opening and also sent the video. I wanted to let you know that this can happen with hitch receivers and hitch accessories like bike racks, ball mounts, and cargo carriers. When the hitches and the accessories are manufactured the receiver opening may be a little bigger or the shanks are a little smaller than a perfect 2-inch opening. The tolerances can be a little off. It can be corrected using an anti-rattle device such as part # RM-061
Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2" Trailer Hitches
or part # RSCP
Brophy Stabilizer Clamp and U-Bolt for 2" Hitch Receiver - Black Powder Coated Steel
. It will help to take a lot of sway out of the bike rack.
-- Etrailer Expert Jenny N - 07/29/2022

Easy to assemble. Seems to be well built. I have yet to put bikes on it. May
I suggest two changes in design.
1. Provide hex wrench with more length. With the location of the hex screws and the torque it requires to tighten, the additional length will make this step much easier.
2. Make hitch bolt/pin non-threaded for the use of universal pin/bolt with lock option to secure rack to vehicle.
The price is what sold me, but I don't feel I sacrificed quality at all.(maybe weight, but I have not compared on this spec)

I've had a similar rack in the past, and have always used a few bungees to stabilize the fork and bikes, but overall the bikes mount safely and securely. The hitch bolts securely into the receiver, so no wobble at all there, but the hinge is a little wobbly - I'm going to add a few washers where the upright pivots - it think that'll take out a little play. A solid rack for the price, for sure.
Finally, there were a few washers missing from the sealed parts bag, but I was able to find replacements in my shop.

We recommend that you make sure that the bolts are tight on his bike rack. That should completely resolve this issue.
-- Etrailer Expert Katrina B - 05/09/2022

Very heavy duty, need to shim out play between side flanges and upright bar, as others have noted some of the welded nuts on bike platform are mis aligned and either need grinding out of platform steel to access nut threads, or re threading as some have noted. Overall an excellent deal on a solid hitch mount bike carrier if you are capable of a little DIY adjustment.

Overall I am happy with the product. Seems well built and sturdy and should serve well in its intended purpose. My only grip was fit and finish… one pipe was not finished on the inside and because it’s the vertical pipe with no cap, all the rust comes out on the horizontal hitch portion and looks terrible

We do see where rust is forming. This must have been a spot that was missed during the powdercoat process. We apologize for the inconvenience that this rust has caused. I did send your information over to our customer service team and they are working on a solution for you.
-- Etrailer Expert Katrina B - 06/21/2022

Clamps are too close to handle more than a couple bikes.

You mentioned that the clamps were too close and only allowed a couple of bikes to be on it. I wanted to ask if you were installed the bikes so that one handle bar faces one way and then switching it for the next bike so it faces the other way?
-- Etrailer Expert Jenny N - 09/16/2022
Good question but the answer is yes, I rotated the bikes as you noted. I knew it was tight when I bought it as I could tell from the pictures, but that’s ok as it is only 2 bikes - my wife and I, about 99 of the time. However the other day our grandson wanted to go also and we couldn’t get his bike to fit so we had to pinch it into the back of the van. That’s why I put it in the post because for a family of four their bikes won’t all fit.
-- comment by: Tony - 09/19/2022
I appreciate the additional information. I do wonder if a bike adapter bar would help with your grandsons bike, however I do not want to keep asking questions if you are ok with the rack.
-- Etrailer Expert Jenny N - 09/19/2022

Very well made although package was missing two washers for upper piece. No biggie i guess. Otherwise would have gave 5 stars.

I am sorry to hear that you are missing some items. I have sent this information over to our customer service department for them to assist you in getting these missing washers.
-- Etrailer Expert Katrina B - 08/09/2022

Great bike rack! We needed one for three bikes for a cross-country roadtrip and decided this was the best solution. While the dream would be something that folds up to the trunk like some others, this is cheaper, better build quality from what I can see, and has a ton of great features.

Don’t forget to get a stabilization strap. Crucial and we forgot only until after we received it.

Good - seems solid and sturdy. Holds bikes securely with Velcro straps (recommend use of bungee cords as well for additional security). Used it on a test run and was pleased. Held two 40lb bikes with no worrisome sway.

Instructions are a little difficult to follow. Specific parts are not labeled (bolts and nuts). All specifications are in metric.

Pleased with it so far

I love the bike rack all the nuts And bolts are polished they have clear on them I thought that was awesome

Missing bolts and nuts. Doesn’t work with three of the four bikes we where going to put on it.

Oh, man! I will be sure to let customer service know that you are missing hardware. Are you able to provide more details as to how this rack didnt work for you? We have many options when it comes to racks, but one good thing about this rack is that it is one of our most economical options.
-- Etrailer Expert Brooke M - 07/26/2022

Haven’t used it yet, but seems sturdy and well made. Easy to install. I was missing two washers, and one of the welded nuts for the bike support was messed up. It looks like the weld got into the threads. I will have to buy a tap to clean it up and get a new bolt.

Thank you for letting us know. I have sent your information along to our customer service team.

Inexpensive alternative for moving road bikes a short distance. Assembly is easy and frame is substantial.

Seems like a lot of movement. All bolts tight.
Does everything look right? Should I be concerned? Any other stabilizing attachments I should add for long trips?

Thank you

You mentioned that you were experiencing movement with the bike rack in the hitch receiver. I recommend adding an anti-rattle device like part # RM-061
Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2" Trailer Hitches
to help minimize the movement.
-- Etrailer Expert Jenny N - 04/06/2022

Easy assembly. Holds bikes securely and love the channel they rest in. Straps are strong and secure.

Atrocious. It has so much play in the equipment the things sways around 6 inches. I tightened everything up but you still cannot use it.

For this rack, a common mistake is installed the bolt pin and clip backwards. To do it the right way you would want to make sure that the bolt installs from the passenger side toward the driver side. If that still does not do the trick for you, you may consider purchasing part # RM-062 to cut down on movement. At the end of the day, this rack is more of an economical rack and a little play is normal.
-- Etrailer Expert Brooke M - 06/23/2022

Honestly, this bike rack is one of the best purchases I have made over the years. The quality and price are second to none.

I have only put it together so far and did a test fit. It seems like it will securely hold the bikes as designed. The package came missing (2) washers and the bottom interior of the upright divergent tube was full of dry powdery rust. Also, the hitch pin is a threaded bolt with a cross drilled hole for a cotter pin. While this may prevent rattling, if lost it will prevent usage since a standard hitch pin won’t fit. It probably also prevents a way to lock the rack in the hitch. None of the above are deal killers but preclude 5 stars. Bottom line, for less than $100 tax/shipping included, I don’t think you can do better.

Ordered the bike rack and was out on the trails with my family a few days later. Highly recommend!
