Yakima Holdup EVO 4 Bike Rack Loaded

The Yakima HoldUp EVO is a premium, tray-style bike rack that lets you carry 4 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. This rack is specifically designed to carry bikes with big tires and wide handlebars, but it will carry just about any bike, including those with wheels from 20" to 29", carbon frames, disc brakes, thru axles, or full suspensions. You can quickly tilt or fold the rack with the KickStart foot pedal and easy-access tilt handle, saving time when accessing gear or loading bikes. The locking SpeedKnob makes installation and removal of the rack a painless process.

Removable 2-Bike Add-On

Yakima HoldUp EVO 4 Bike Rack Removable 2 Bike Add-on

The rack includes a 2-bike add-on that installs easily onto the base rack. When it's not needed, simply remove the add-on with the included special tool and throw it in your trunk or leave it at home. To install the add-on, simply remove the endcap from the bike rack base, slide the add-on's shank into the hole on the bike rack, and secure the shank with the included bolt.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Yakima Holdup EVO 4 Bike Rack Large Front Wheel Holders

The HoldUp EVO is easy to load, even if your bikes have monster wheels. The deep, contoured front wheel cradles accommodate just about any wheel out there, and the pivoting arms with StrongArm technology ensure that your bikes are held firmly in place.

Yakima Holdup EVO 4 Bike Rack Front Wheel Secured

To load a bike, simply place your front wheel in the holder, rotate the pivoting arm up and over the wheel, and press down firmly on the ratcheting hook. To release the hook, simply press the built-in gray button and slide the hook up and off your wheel.

Yakima Holdup EVO Adjustable Rear Wheel Holders

Large rear wheel holders allow the HoldUp EVO to accommodate a wide variety of bike wheelbases. These wheel holders pivot front to back, adjusting automatically to your wheel size - no need for sliding and tightening. Secure the wheels in place with the ratcheting straps built into each holder.

Yakima HoldUp EVO Ratcheting Arm No Frame Contact

Mounting bikes by the wheels helps prevent any scratches or scuffs to the paint. The ratcheting hooks are padded, however, so they won't mark your wheels. And the pivot mechanisms in the arms are overbuilt to ensure they keep functioning smoothly over a lifetime of hard use.

Fully Adjustability Bike Trays

Yakima Holdup EVO Adjustable Trays

The wheel trays on the HoldUp EVO are fully adjustable to ensure that you have all the space you need when mounting bikes with mammoth handlebars, such as a 29er. To adjust a wheel tray, loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base and slide the tray left or right to achieve the desired spacing. Retighten the bolts and you're ready to roll with optimum handlebar clearance and no fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

Yakima 8002479 Holdup EVO Bike Rack Built-in Cable Locks

The HoldUp EVO has a cable lock built into the end of each pivoting arm. These cables loop through your bike frames and attach to posts on the bike rack arms to secure your bikes in place. The cables store in the arms when not in use.

Yakima Holdup EVO Bike Rack SpeedKnob Anti-Wobble System

The SpeedKnob makes the installation process fast and easy. Once you have the hitch pin in place, simply turn the knob to secure the rack within your hitch receiver. As you tighten the knob it activates the anti-rattle wedge within the rack's shank to reduce noise and movement of the rack while mounted. It also has a built-in SKS lock to keep the rack anchored in place, so you won't need to fumble around with a hitch lock.

Tilting Design and Compact Storage

Yakima HoldUp EVO KickStart Foot Pedal

When you're ready to hit the road, the spring-loaded KickStart foot pedal at the base of the rack allows you to quickly position it for loading bikes. Simply step down on the pedal and lower the rack into position.

Yakima Holdup EVO 4 Bike Rack Tiled for Rear Cargo Access

A spring-loaded lever conveniently located behind the bike trays tilts the rack down, while fully loaded, so you can gain access to your vehicle's rear cargo area without having to unload your bikes.

Yakima Holdup EVO 4 Bike Rack Folded for Storage

When you are ready to store the rack, use the same lever to easily fold the rack up against the rear of your vehicle. First rotate the front wheel holders inward and tilt the rear wheel holders inward, then rotate the pivot arms down and use the ratcheting hooks to secure the arms to the rear wheel holders. Once the arms are in place, pull back on the lever and fold the rack up against your vehicle.

Reasonably quick delivery from etrailer, no issues there. The rack arrived in decent shape (boxes weren't destroyed), and assembly of the 2-place rack and the add-on only took ~1 hour. I am somewhat concerned that the cross-bars where you attach the trays that hold the bicycles are welded to the underside of the rack. Seems it would be much stronger if it were welded on top. I'm hoping the 4 bolts that hold these on will hold up over time - I had my last bike rack for 20+ years, we'll see if these can go the distance.

As long as the rack is assembled and used according to the instructions, the rack is covered by a limited lifetime warranty. Yakima does a very good job of standing behind their products.

The Yakima EVO rack works great. It holds the bikes securely and is easy to load and unload. The rack is well built and a little on the heavy side. (very sturdy) The rack is easy to install and remove from my car, but I have not decided on a good way to store the rack when it is not in use. I have used the rack on several long trips at interstate speeds and the rack and bikes are very secure with no bouncing or swaying.

Review from a similar HoldUp EVO in Hitch Bike Racks

Overall very impressed with quality of the bike rack. The only issue I have is with my long wheel base Fat bike. It wants to rock out of the front tire cradle because the back tire is past the rack and the weight of the bike pushes it rearward. To solve it I have to bungee the rear tire to the bike rack frame pulling it to the front. You can see the green bungee in my picture. This does not happen with my wife’s bike. This is mounted on a 2016 Yukon. With the rack tipped pack you can lift the gate about 3/4 of the way to access the rear area. Etrailer shipped super fast.

Review from a similar HoldUp EVO in Hitch Bike Racks

I assembled and installed the rack at a leisurely pace. It took a little while to get the spine bolt properly aligned, but once I got past that the rest of the installation went quickly. I’m guessing it was about half an hour from start to finish and a good bit of that was unpacking the rack and all its hardware. Mounting my beach cruiser was easy. I road-tested everything and I’m very happy with this purchase. The advice I got from Kyle at etrailer was excellent and follow up has been great.

Review from a similar HoldUp EVO in Hitch Bike Racks

I purchased this rack after extensive research and have been using it regularly for several months. I am very pleased with this purchase as it has provided exactly what I was looking for in a bike rack. The reasons I purchased this rack (in no particular order) were: price, features, and that it could carry a bike weighing as much as 50lbs (needed for an e-bike). etrailer's web site info is excellent and helpful as were the staff when I had a question. The rack is heavy (but needs to be for what it is designed to do), so taking it on and off the car requires the ability to carry and maneuver a bulky and cumbersome object. Getting bikes on and off this rack could not be easier. Be sure to take it easy driving over bumps because I did shake a bike loose from the rack once; that experience is consistent with info on the e-trailer web site. Other than that the bikes ride very securely, including at highway speeds.

Review from a similar HoldUp EVO in Hitch Bike Racks

Purchased with Draw-tite 24763 (Class I, 1 1/4 in hitch receiver) for installation to a 2011 Honda Civic sedan. The online assistant (Mckenzie ?) was very helpful in walking me through some questions which I had prior to placing an order. One of the reasons why I selected etrailer for this transaction is the experience which the organization can claim regarding various combinations of hitch receivers and bicycle racks. I was well-pleased with the online assistance prior to purchase. Assembly was straightforward and easy.

Fast shipping easy to put together. Nice and tight in hitch 2". Loaded bikes on rack and fit with no problems 1 full suspension 29" tires and 1 with 26" wheels no problem adjusting rack. have not used yet will update after a couple of trips.

It is still holding up. Had a couple of issues that Yakima fixed. One was the rear tire holder fell off the pins that hold the holder were on recall. The other was the front tire holder the one that comes down the the tire. The shims that keep it from binding got stuck and cause the shims to break. Yakima fixed this as well. Over all love the bike rack. The best part is the wife can put her bike on the rack by herself with no problems. Do not have the 26 inch tire bike anymore. She got a 27.5 x 2.8 with full suspension and it fits no problem. Would recommend to others.

Review from a similar HoldUp EVO in Hitch Bike Racks

The products are good, ordering the parts were easy but the packaging was a little rough. I purchased a bike rack and two bearing buddy bras that they stuffed inside the rack box, need less to say they were crushed in shipping. The bra's are soft plastic and are still okay to use but the packing was wasted.

The Yakima rack is working out nicely, Its a bit heavy but very well built.

Have yet to install but wanted to comment on the great customer service. Initially was sent the wrong item. When I contacted the seller they immediately responded by sending the correct hitch and a prepaid return label. Additional, they lived up to their competitive price policy and gave me credit when I found the same item at a lower price. Fantastic customer service. Check back later for hitch review.

I received the Yakima bike rack just yesterday so have not used it yet. I will be using the rack for a Giant eBike and a Trek roadbike. Everything in my dealings with etrailer was very smooth. I even received the shipment a day early. Brendan was very professional and good to work with. I would recommend etrailer for your bike rack needs.

  • 4-Bike Rack Recommendation that Can Be Used at Rear of RV
At the rear of a trailer or RV the ride quality is very rough when compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle. Reason being the suspension isn't as sophisticated and there is a longer distance between the rear axle and the rear of the trailer which exaggerates the movement of the trailer when hitting bumps. Because of that only a few bike racks were designed to be reinforced enough for that type of use. The only 4 bike racks that are confirmed as a fit for RV applications...

While I would love to tell you that the Yakima HoldUp EVO 4 Bike Platform Rack # Y02479-2 is compatible with the 2-1/2" receiver on your 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 with an adapter like the Hollywood Racks # HRHA-2, I've reached out to Yakima about this kind of situation before and they say that if an adapter they don't make is used for a 2-1/2" receiver then they won't be able to cover any damages under warranty if anything was to occur. I am not aware of a hitch-mounted 4-bike rack on the market that could handle the type of weight you mentioned in your question. I have a bike rack for you! First, though, the Yakima HoldUp EVO, part # Y02479-2, can not be used on a Class A RV. Instead, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Destination, part # HR4000. It can hold up to 4 bikes at 35 pounds each, and is rated for use with a motorhome. It has the fold-up feature and mounts bikes by the frame. Because 60mm is a little over 2", it's going to be really similar to carrying a 5" wide tire when you take the distance to get up and over the rims, so either one of these would work well.
