Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Yakima LiteRider 3 Bike Rack

The Yakima LiteRider is a lightweight aluminum rack that allows you to carry up to 3 bicycles on the back of your vehicle. It features SuperCush anti-sway cradles with ratcheting ZipStrip straps for easy bike loading. The rack tilts for rear cargo area access. The locking SpeedKnob offers tool-free installation, and an integrated cable lock secures your bikes to the rack.

SuperCush Anti-Sway Cradles with Ratcheting ZipStrip Straps

SuperCush Anti-Sway Cradles

The Yakima LiteRider has premium SuperCush cradles to carry and protect your bikes during transport. The anti-sway cradles limit bike movement to help prevent bike-to-bike contact. Premium TPE padding protects your bikes' frames from damage by absorbing road shock and vibration.

Ratcheting ZipStrip Staps

The cradles also include ratcheting ZipStrip straps that make loading and unloading your bikes a breeze. Simply insert the strap into the buckles on the cradle and push it down until it's snug around your bike frame. The ZipStrips can be removed quickly by pressing the release levers on the sides of each anti-sway cradle.

Folding Dual Arms

LiteRider Folding Dual Arms

The LiteRider's dual arms provide excellent stability for your bikes during transport. The quick-release TriggerFinger control lever lets you quickly fold the arms down when you're not carrying any bikes. When you're ready to load the rack up again, simply lift the arms until they lock in place with an audible click.

Convenient Access to Rear Cargo Area

LiteRider Tilting Design

The LiteRider tilts for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just pull the spring-loaded pin at the base of the rack. And when you're ready to go, lift the rack up until it snaps into place with an audible click.

Tool-Free Installation with SpeedKnob

LiteRider SpeedKnob

The rack has an integrated SpeedKnob that allows for tool-free installation. The knob controls an anti-rattle wedge on the shank. Simply turn the knob to tighten the bike rack shank in your hitch receiver. This not only secures the rack to your vehicle, but also reduces noise and movement of the rack in your hitch. An included hitch pin is attached to the bike rack shank with a lanyard so you won't lose it.

Removable Adapter

The rack works with both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. To use it in a 1-1/4" hitch, simply remove the adapter with the included Allen key.

Complete Security

Locking SpeedKnob

The LiteRider includes 2 keyed-alike Same Key System lock cores - one in the SpeedKnob and the other in the integrated cable lock. The SpeedKnob lock allows you to secure the bike rack to your vehicle.

Integrated Cable Lock

The integrated cable lock wraps around your bikes and secures to a post at the end of the left arm. These SKS cores can be swapped out to make all your Yakima gear keyed alike.

Integrated Bottle Openers

Integrated Bottle Opener

An integrated bottle opener on the end of each arm allows you to enjoy a cold one after a long ride.

Video Transcript for Yakima Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon

Today on this 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Light Rider 3 bike rack. Part number Y02471. You can see we already have a bike installed on the rack, let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. How the bike is actually attached to the rack, we're going to have three points of contacts to the bike's frame. We're going to have two zip strips up at the top here and one off to the side here, which is going to act as an anti-sway strap to keep the bike from moving back and forth, possibly hitting the bike rack itself or the bikes in front of it. We'll go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. To do that, with the zip strips, there's going to be buttons on either side of it and you want to push those in at the same time and just pull it right out. Now, the sip strips, we're going to go ahead and put them back into place just so we don't lose them while driving. Now I'm going to go ahead and give you some measurements.

First being how much distance is added to the vehicle once the bike rack itself it installed. I'm going to go ahead and measure from the bumper. So from this point down we're at about 31 inches. For our ground clearance, we're at about 13 inches. Our closest point to the bumper, which would be this area here, it's about 6 inches.

For close quarter situations, such as parking, these arms do fold down to give you a little bit more space to work with in the rear. Push forward on this gray latch at the top, fold down, when you hear that click the arms are locked in place. The overall distance has changed, so we'll go ahead and give you that measurement one more time. With the arms folded down, we're right at about 11 inches. If you need to get into the rear hatch area, this bike rack also tilts forward. To do that, you go to the red handle down here, pull up, let it fall off and now we have complete access to our cargo area with plenty of room on either side to get whatever it is that we need. To return the bike to it's original position, you just simply lift up, you'll hear that click and it's locked back into place. This does work with both inch and a quarter and two inch hitches.

Instead of having a hitch pin, it has this pin here that you just push in, like so, and then it has a locking anti-rattle knob at the end, with a dust cover to keep all that road grime and dirt out of the lock. You turn right to tighten it and left to loosen it. It takes all that shake and play out of your bike rack while you're driving to make for a much smoother ride. There you have it for the Yakima Light Rider 3 bike rack, part number Y02471 on our 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon. Here it is on our test course. We'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show up the side to side action, which simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvers.

Next, we're at the alternating speed bumps which we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole or driving over uneven pavement. Finally, we have the full speed bumps, where we'll see the up and down action, which is just like driving out of a parking lot, garage or driveway.

This was a great purchase. The product was delivered quickly and the instructions provided for installation were perfect. The product is on my car and my family is enjoying the rides we are taking away from home 643645

The rack arrived in a timely fashion. It was on backorder, and the etrailer folks made sure that it arrived as fast as possible. The instructions for installing and using were clear and accurate - there was no problem at all. It is light enough to easily put into the trailer hitch. Even my girlfriend could do it with no problem. I only have two bikes for this 3-bike capacity rack; it is very sturdy enough for my needs. I would recommend this product. 523347

Review from a similar Yakima LiteRider in Hitch Bike Racks

This is a great bike carrier. It is light weight (Easy to insert and lock into hitch) and gives a very stable ride with no swaying. etrailer service was also good. I found this exact model at a lower price shortly after purchase-contacted etrailer and they refunded the difference in prices in short order. When the need arises I will order from them again. 247802

Item was everything it was promoted to be. The most effective aspect of this process was the instructional video on line that was available thru the etrailer site. It sold the product. It shipped completely assembled and ready to use. Was a smart buy. 114470

Review from a similar Yakima LiteRider in Hitch Bike Racks is the best to work with! After talking with 2 CSRs who are very knowledgeable about the racks I was considering, I ordered the Yakima Lightrider 2. Rack arrived a day before it was promised, and assembly instructions were very easy to follow. This is the 2nd time I've purchased a bike rack from; both times the customer service has been stellar. The Yakima Lightrider 2 is a well-built, sturdy, lightweight rack that is easy to use - but will not accomodate my Trek 7200 and my wife's Trek 7300 at the same time. Just not enough room for the 2 bikes; any way we tried it, we had bike-to-bike contact at 3 points - there's just not enough space designed between bikes (and we're not novices at using bike carriers, this is the 4th one we've owned in our 60+ years). The Yakima Doubledown Ace was designed with cradles that could be moved forward or backward along the tube arm; unfortunately, not so with the Lightrider 2 - the cradles are secured to the tube arms by a screw. Returning the rack to, but disappointed it wouldn't work - the zip strips sure beat fighting with the old rubber straps on our previous rack. 272956

Review from a similar Yakima LiteRider in Hitch Bike Racks

Good product. Mounts solidly to the vehicle. The plastic cradles secure the bike very good. The cradles have clearance for the external cabling on my mountain bike. My only complaint is the anti-sway cradles do not fit the aero-frame on my time trial bike which is a bit of a disappointment. This allows the TT bike to sway more than I would like it to. 265528

Ask the Experts about this Yakima Hitch Bike Racks
Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Distance from Center of Hitch Pin Hole to Bar of Thule Hitching Post Pro
  • The Thule Helium Aero 3-Bike Rack TH9043 makes an awful nice gift but you are correct that there is a short distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the locking knob - just 4-1/2". The Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR you asked about does not have that knob and is 13-1/2" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright on the rack. The trade off is that it does tighten into the hitch much differently. Instead of turning a knob it has an anti-rattle bolt, which...

  • The tilting feature of the Yakima LiteRider 3 Bike Rack, part # Y02471 is designed for exactly what you are asking about. If the hitch you order is the Class lll hitch part # 75902, the LiteRider will work well with it. Class lll hitches give you more versatility when considering accessories and capacities. When the rack is empty you simply pull the red spring-loaded pin and tilt the bike rack away form the back of your 2015 Nissan Rogue, allowing you access to the rear cargo area of...

  • For your 2018 Subaru Forester, the Curt hitch that meets your criteria and is a confirmed fit is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13144 and will work great for a 3 bike rack. For a 3 bike carrier, I recommend going with a platform rack because it supports the bikes by the wheels. The Saris 3 bike was discontinued, but the Kuat Transfer # TS03G is a similar choice that will also make loading easy due to the design where you can walk in between the rack...

  • Yes, the Yakima LiteRider # Y02472 will work well on your 2018 Subaru Outback! When we test fit the Class II Draw-Tite # 36493 on a 2017 Outback we found there was 4-1/4" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper while the LiteRider measures 9" from center of hitch pin hole to the locking knob. • Carrying a Women's and 2 Children's Bikes on a 2013 Lexus RX 450h
  • Most 16 inch children's bikes and women's bikes need an adapter bar, like the Swagman # 64005, to be able to carry them level on a hanging bike rack. For that long of a trip I definitely recommend the bikes be as level as possible. The solution is often to use a wheel mount platform rack instead; however, they only fit as small as 20 inch wheels. With that being said sometimes the small bikes do fit hanging bike racks. It depends on how much space there is for the arms to fit under...

  • Could Yakima LiteRider 3 part # Y02471 Clear Spare of 2008 Toyota RAV4
  • The Yakima LiteRider 3 part # Y02471 has great clearance for fitting around a vehicle spare. It has a distance of 11-1/2 inches from the center of it's hitch pin to the back of the mast of the rack. You'd need to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your vehicle out to the furthest point out on the rear spare. If that distance is less than 11-1/2 inches you'd be fine. That distance was 7 inches when we installed the Draw Tite hitch part # 75235 on a similar 2007 Toyota Rav4...

I am including a link to a FAQ page on hitch receivers. • Is a Separate Locking Hitch Pin Needed for the Yakima LiteRider # Y02471
  • No, the Yakima LiteRider # Y02471 does not require a separate locking hitch pin. The way it works is the knob at the end tightens the bike rack shank inside the hitch receiver. Once sufficiently tight you will not be able to remove the rack unless the knob is loosened. The knob has a lock on it so that it cannot be loosened when the knob is locked. The small red "hitch pin" tethered to the rack is basically a fail safe. The shank on the rack doesn't even have a hole that goes all the...

  • Fit of Yakima LiteRider 3 Bike Rack Y02471 in Class I Hitch on 2012 Honda Fit
  • The manufacturer of Draw-Tite receiver hitches does indeed weld or punch a stop into their Class I hitches to prevent higher rated Class II accessories from being used in them. Therefore, the Yakima LiteRider 3 Bike Rack # Y02471 wouldn't be compatible. I'd recommend choosing a Class I compatible bike rack, such as the Thule Helium Aero, available in a 2 bike version as part # TH9042 or a 3 bike version as part # TH9043. Not saying it would never happen but it's pretty unlikely. To determine if it will fit your Class I hitch you will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole towards the front of the vehicle.
