Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Cable

Note: The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the face of the hitch must be 1-1/2" or greater to use this rack.

Approved for use on cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, and motorhomes - not approved for fifth wheels or towable campers

Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack

This premium, hitch-mounted bike rack lets you transport 2 bikes on the back of your vehicle. It's made of ultra-lightweight aluminum so you can install it, carry it, and move it from vehicle to vehicle with little effort. It has fold-up anti-sway cradles and ratcheting straps that make it easy to load and unload your bikes. The cradles are set 7" apart, so there's enough space between your bikes to prevent them from becoming tangled on the rack. It also has an anti-rattle hitch pin and integrated cable with keyed-alike locks that secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

Folding Dual Arms with HitchSwitch Lever

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Dual Arms

The Helium Pro has dual arms that provide your bikes with excellent support and ground clearance during transport.

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Hitch Switch Lever

The upper HitchSwitch lever lets you fold the arms down when not in use.

HideAway Anti-Sway Cradles

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Anti-Sway Cradles

The Helium Pro has HideAway anti-sway cradles that secure each bike twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or downtube. This reduces rocking to help eliminate bike-to-bike and bike-to-vehicle contact. The soft rubber cradles rotate around the arms to accommodate your bikes' frames. Each cradle is set 7" apart on the arms, so there is more space between your bikes when compared with many other hanging-style racks. The added space helps prevent your bikes from becoming tangled on the rack.

Thule Helium Pro 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Grooves

The cradles have grooves on the surface that prevent your brake and shifter cables from getting pinched.

Thule Helium Pro 4-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Folding Cradles

Durable, dual-molded ratchet straps hold your bikes firmly in place on the cradles. You can remove the lower straps and fold the cradles up against the arms to make it easier to slide your bikes onto the rack.

Tilting Rack with HitchSwitch Lever

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Tilting

The rack tilts for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just pull up on the HitchSwitch lever at the base of the rack, and lower the rack into position. When you're ready to go, lift the rack up until it snaps into place with an audible click.

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Lower HitchSwitch Lever

The HitchSwitch lever is located right behind the base of the mast. This makes it easy to reach with one hand and steady the mast with the other.

Tool-Free Installation

Thule EasyFold XT

The knob at the front of the shank lets you quickly and easily install the rack. Just slide the shank into your hitch and turn the knob until snug. The knob deploys an anti-rattle wedge in the shank to help take play out of the hitch connection. It also sets the integrated SnugTite hitch pin into place, securing the rack to your receiver.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Cable

The Helium Pro includes One-Key System locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle. The integrated cable lock threads around your bikes' frames and inserts into the lock at the end of the left arm. The cable stores inside the mast when not in use.

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack Locking Pin

The lock on the hand knob secures the rack to your vehicle. The hand knob will spin freely when locked so a would-be thief can't operate it to remove the rack from your hitch. The locks are keyed alike so you can use the same keys for both locks. Additional One-Key System locks (sold separately) let you make all of your Thule products keyed alike.

Hitch Compatibility

Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Hanging-Style Rack 1-1/4

The rack works with both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. To use it in a 1-1/4" hitch, simply remove the adapter with the included Allen key.

This rack is exactly what I was looking for! It is light weight, insatllation was super easy, offers maneuverability to access the lift gate and keeps the bikes secure with key locks at the hitch and at the rack. Additionally, the rack is on a Draw-Tite Class III Max Round Tube Receiver Hitch which was also purchased from E-trailer. The combo is outstanding and eliminated the need to have my bumper modified to support hitch installation. 653175

My experience with etrailer.com was great from start to finish. I ordered a Thule Helium Pro 2 Bike Rack and was pleased to see that etrailer.com offered a used item at a discount in addition to new items at full price. I took a chance and opted for the "used item" to get the discounted price. Almost immediately, I received an email confirmation for my order. Afterward, I received a follow-on email from etrailer.com letting me know my order had shipped and including a UPS tracking number. My rack arrived on time, securely sealed in its factory carton and with all the necessary parts and tools for assembly intact in factor sealed bags, including a manual. If this was "used" I certainly couldn't tell! Now, about that instruction manual - lol! I found it a bit odd that there were no actual instructions (just illustrations) to help guide you with assembling the rack. Not to worry. Some basic mechanical instincts together with information on the etrailer.com website will get you through just fine. I love the light weight of the Pro 2 and the features that enable you to fold the arms of the rack down, and also tilt the rack away from the rear of your vehicle for accessibility. This thing is light years ahead of the cumbersome, heavy and non-adjustable hitch mounted bike rack that I owned previously. (Did I say, "heavy"?) Great product, best price, excellent quality, fast shipping and superb follow up! Thanks, etrailer.com! 779512

Although I had to wait a month while it was on backorder due to COVID-19, the rack is really great...much lighter than my old one and some nice features like the lock for both the hitch and the bikes, and the tilt feature for access to the back of my Xterra without having to remove the bikes or the rack. 876632

I love this bike rack. It is light yet sturdy. I love that it locks at the hitch and only needs one key for both locks. Better yet was the price, excellent customer service and FAST delivery from etrailer. I was searching for three days and every sporting good store was sold out. I was ordering a part for my travel trailer when I saw etrailer sold this rack and at a LOWER price What a win win! 830895

I did lot of research get appropriate hitch rack for my SUV (Nissan Rogue). Finally I found what I needed!! It is very good quality item from trusted brand. It seemed a little confusing to assemble it at the very beginning but actually it is quite easy to do that by yourself and it doesn’t take long time either. It is very light and easy to carry if you wanna remove it from your vehicle. It is solid and it does carry our both bikes securely I am very happy with prompt response and fast delivery of etrailer.com. I purchased with 4 business days delivery option and I actually received it 3 days after I purchased it. It was impressive. FYI, I live in Maine. Thank you. 819126

Review from a similar Helium Pro in Hitch Bike Racks

I recently purchased the Thule Helium Pro 3 Bike Rack and love how simple it is to operate once put together. I've only had it for about a week and have used it twice. It is great not to worry about pins any longer. My only beef is with the instructions to put it together. I took all the parts out of the box and started to read the instructions. The rack comes in two parts - the hitch part and the rack part. In handling the hitch part, I noticed there was tape on it and didn't think twice about removing the tape. I found out the hard way the tape was keeping a metal bar in place (where the rack can be reclined to open your tailgate). There was also tape to keep the locking mechanism in place. After I removed the tape, the parts fell out and I had one heck of time adjusting the hook to the bar. I ended up taking it to a local bike shop to fix and connect the rack piece to the hitch piece. In the end, I'm not sure if this was supposed to be like this or not. Either way, I wish instructions came with words along with the pictures and told me not to remove the tape. 773133

Review from a similar Helium Pro in Hitch Bike Racks

The rack has worked fairly well for us, but it has a disturbing tendency to bounce, and at one point, one of the straps got loose and a bike came part way off on the highway, causing the kick stand to get ground down to a fine point before we noticed. We now use extra care to make sure the straps are positioned so they won't come loose, but just how to do that is not clear from the pictures-only instruction manual. 867797

Great product ultimately! It took 2 of us 3-4 hours to install the hitch and the new bike rack... overall, it wasn’t complicated, but a little nerve wracking on a new car (so a lot of checking and re-checking instructions), and we had to run to the hardware store to buy a torque wrench. Also, you have to sort of pry off the bumper from the clips. Apparently there are tools for it, but we used an old plastic spatula knife that worked well (metal will scratch the bumper). 827663

Review from a similar Helium Pro in Hitch Bike Racks

Since 2011 this is the 3rd time I have shopped at etrailer. The reason I purchased this new Thule Helium model 9043PRObike rack is that the old Thule Helium model 971XT I bought back in 2011 broke (tightening lock knob mechanism inside the stinger assembly - 2nd time it has broken on me) and I needed a new rack quickly. etrailer.com indeed delivered swiftly! In the meantime I have put in a warrantee claim with Thule on my old rack. I’m sure this will take a while to resolve. I have already used this new 9043PRO rack and am really please with the rack’s functionality as compared to the old one! Specifically the ease and speed to place and lock it onto the hitch itself. Also like the new design straps as well as the bike locking cable design. Over the years I really appreciate the efficient, consistent and great customer service I have received in all my interactions etrailer! 819587

  • Maximum Allowable Speed With Bike Rack Installed on Vehicle
Thule doesn't list a maximum speed that could be driven with their bike racks, so they have no opinion to offer as far as that goes. As long as you're at a reasonable highway speed, you shouldn't have any difficulty. Keep in mind that having a bike instatlled on the rack will have an effect on the aerodynamics of the vehicle. These effects will multiply as the speed increases. As long as your bike doesn't have a carbon fiber frame (which don't like hanging style bike racks) the...

The stresses exerted on the bikes frame could damage it, and given the cost of a carbon-fiber framed bike that would be reeeeally bad. Using a rack that holds the bike by the tires is what's recommended. I'd recommend the Kuat Transfer 2, part # TS02B. This rack is somewhat heavier than the Helium,...

  • Recommended Bike Rack for Specialized Turbo S Electric Bike That Weighs 45 lbs
According to Thule, their Helium Pro # TH9042PRO bike rack has a 37.5 lb per-bike capacity. Though this adds up to 75 lbs total, Thule specifically says that the weight of any individual bike shouldn't exceed 37.5 lbs because the cradles that hold the bikes aren't rated above that. None of our traditional hanging-style bike racks have enough capacity for a 45 lb bike, but we offer several platform racks that would work well for you. The Hollywood Racks Trail Rider, part # HR200Z would...

  • Is a Separate Locking Hitch Pin Needed for the Thule Helium Pro Bike Rack
No, the Thule Helium Pro 2-Bike Rack # TH9042PRO does not require a separate locking hitch pin. The way it works is the knob tightens the bike rack shank inside the hitch receiver. Once sufficiently tight you will not be able to remove the rack unless the knob is loosened.

  • Will the Thule Helium Aero Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks Fit a Subaru Impreza 5-Door
On the older version of the Helium bike racks, they would not fit a Class I trailer hitch because of the built-in safety device in the hitch and the fact that the bike rack was for Class II and III hitches. The newer versions should fit in a Class I trailer hitch. Check to make sure your anti-rattle knob is loosened so that it is flush with the shank on the bike rack. Both the # TH9042PRO and # TH9043PRO are Class I compatible. The hitch pin, which is attached to the bike rack, only...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2010 Toyota Prius
For your Toyota Prius I would recommend a Thule Helium Aluminum 2 Bike Carrier, part # TH9042PRO. This is one of our lightest racks we sell and would work very well with the Class I hitch that is on your Prius. You may also be interested in purchasing a Thule Women and Alternative Frame Bike Adapter, part # TH982XT. I attached an installation video for this product below for you to check out also.

  • How Long is the Stinger on a Thule Helium Aero Bike Rack
The Thule Helium Aero bike rack # TH9042PRO has a measurement of 8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack. In order to determine if you have enough clearance for a bike rack you should measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your 2010 Volkswagen Golf and measure out to the furthest point on the bumper to see how long of shank on a bike rack you would need.

  • Recommended Hitch Pin Lock for Thule Helium Aero 2 Bike Carrier and Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch
The good news is the Thule Helium Aero 2 Bike Rack, part # TH9042PRO, comes with a built-in, anti-rattle locking hitch pin so you will not need to purchase a separate locking hitch pin. Check out the video review of the Helium Aero 2 (see link) which shows the built-in, anti-rattle hitch pin with lock in action.

  • Will the Thule Helium 2 Bike Rack Fit 2005 Toyota Prius w/ Class I Trailer Hitch
The Thule Helium 2 Bike Carrier, part # TH9042PRO, will work with a Class I hitch on your 2005 Toyota Prius. Usually with Class I hitches, the issue is how much tongue weight capacity is used. With a Curt Class I hitch, you are only afforded 200 pounds of tongue weight capacity. The carrier weighs less than 20 pounds. With two bikes on the rack, weighing around 30 pounds each, that brings the total up to 80 pounds. So you will have plenty of capacity left on the hitch. You will want...

  • Is the Thule Helium Aero Bike Rack Rust Proof and as Stable as Platform Bike Racks
The Thule Helium Aero, # TH9042PRO, features built-in anti-rattle and anti-sway cradles with road dampening technology so once properly installed and loaded it will be on par in terms of stability with platform style racks. Since the bike rack is made of aluminum and automotive grade plastics corrosion will not be nearly as much of an issue as it is with steel racks. Some of the internal components may be susceptible though. I recommend hosing off the rack with fresh water before storing...

  • Will the Thule Helium Pro 2 Bike Rack Fit a 2012 Toyota RAV4
The Thule Helium Pro 2 Bike Rack part # TH9042PRO is an excellent option that would indeed be compatible with a 2012 Toyota RAV4. The Thule Helium is also a fairly new model which was just released in 2019. That said, I don't exactly have a release date of all Thule bike racks.
