This carrier's steel construction provides lasting toughness and carries up to four bikes. Cushioned cradles on the arm rotate to keep wheels level to the ground, providing improved ground clearance. Additionally, the cradles help provide a scratch-free ride for bikes by using thick kraton vinyl cushioning with large grooves, which prevent bike cables from rubbing on the frame. They also work to prevent bikes from rocking back and forth during transit. The cradles accommodate bikes with up to a 2" diameter frame, and the locking knob allows for a secure and quick unload.

Rotating cradle with thick kraton vinyl cushioning and locking knob

Made of steel and padded with thick kraton vinyl cushioning, the cradles rotate to keep bikes level to the ground. Additionally, the last cradle has a locking knob to secure all bikes to the rack.

Video Transcript for Swagman XP For RV and Motorhome Hitch Bike Rack Review

Today, well be demonstrating the Swagman XP 4 Bike Rack for 2 inch Trailer Hitches part number S64940. Now, the Swagman XP is RV and Motorhome approved. This carriers steel construction provides lasting toughness and carries up to four bikes. The cushion cradle on the arm rotates to keep wheels levelled to the ground provide improved ground clearance and help provide a scratch-free ride for your bike. The cradles will accommodate bikes with up to 2 inch diameter frame and the locking knob allows for securing quick unload. Now, well go ahead and slide our shank of the bike rack into the hitch.

Line up the hitch pin hole. We can simply thread the anti-rattle bolt in and tighten it down. This will secure the bike rack to the vehicle. Now, to load our bike, were going to be loading it on the innermost cradle. Well undo the knob where we can then remove the top cradle cover.

We can now place the bike into the cradle. Now, the cover is adjustable depending on the topmost diameter. Now, when tightening the knob down, you want to be careful not to over tighten as you can damage your bike. Included with the bike is a tether strap. The tether strap clip is inserted into the slot on the safety 01:32 plate.

Well then wrap the strap around the bike and bring it back to the bike rack. Now that our bike is secured to the vehicle, well go ahead and take it on a test drive and see how it performs. That completes our demonstration of the Swagman XP 4 Bike Rack for 2 inch Hitches part number S64940.

I bought it primarily to use it on my camper to haul the kids bikes when we go camping. It was a little harder to assemble than I expected it would be but the reason is because you have to position each holder individually for each bike. That slight down fall makes it nice though because each bike will be properly positioned and secured for travel. I bought the model with the factory lock, I'm glad I decided on that model. I'm also glad that it has the anti rattle feature especially going on a camper. The bike rack even works with a spare tire mounted right next to it. 544403

Bought this to take the bikes for my family of four on vacation and I have only used it three times in the last 12 months, the most recent just a week ago. I remain completely happy with my purchase. The ability to angle the brackets allows me to easily fit our 4 bikes (adult male, adult female, 12 yr male, 10 yr female). My wife's bike fits okay without an adapter, but my daughter's bike required a bar adapter since the space between her frame would not fit over the brackets. One thing to note, to get my wife and sons bikes on, I have to remove the brackets for the bikes in front of them. Don't be stubborn, just do this. I scratched the frames putting them on the first time without removing the other brackets, and it ended up taking longer fighting them on. This is because of the way her bike frame is built and his is simply smaller. I am considering buying the bar adapters for them as well just to avoid having to remove the brackets, but we don't really use it enough yet to purchase them. My bike, with the wider frame, goes on quickly and easily. Tip: Take a picture of how you fit the bikes on! It will save you having to figure it out again the next time. 410383

Ordered this bike rack, the locking / anti rattle / threaded hitch pin, & the adapter for an alternative frame bike. Very impressed with e-trailer dot com. Price was great. The order shipped quickly & arrived early. It was securely packed. Did A LOT of research & chose this bike rack as it was one of the few that was approved by the manufacturer for RV use. The bike rack went together fairly easily. The wife helped me as it was good to have a 2nd set of hands. Hint: I started assembling it on the garage floor but it's easier to do in a hitch insert. Finally used it on our class C RV this past weekend. All in all, no complaints. The wife was driving behind me & said the bike rack was fairly steady. Pleased with e trailer dot com & the bike rack! 57797

1st thing-- only buy this unit is your looking for a RV hitch. Forget Yakima, Thule, etc. I have broken two of the other brands!! Little downside is that this is really a 3 bike rack. Top arm should be 2" longer if you don't want your bicycles banging together. They should make some changes to the bolts that tighten down the holders, or instead you leave the knobs on other wise you will scratch your bicycles knocking them on the bolts. 98181

Wow this rack is very heavy duty fits the hitch perfectly and fit all 4 of my bikes. It even comes with a stabilizing strap. I bought the Curt E 100 bumper receiver also a perfect inexpensive way to attach the bike rack to my 5th wheel bumper 484157

After researching the multitude of bike racks available, Pat at etrailer spent over 30 minutes with me on the phone answering my questions about which would be the best rack for our SUV and our particular bike styles. We settled on the Swagman XP 4-bike rack. The cradles are adjustable and be rotated so that the wheels of any bike can be kept parallel to the ground regardless of the angle of the bike frame. It worked as advertised, and I can 100% recommend etrailer as a very reliable source. The people there are interested in helping you, and they deliver. Great company! 81561

Still perfect. Our bike trip last July to Montana and Idaho was a great test of the Swagman bike rack. We had four bikes totaling 80 pounds and had absolutely no issues. With the U brace keeping the rack base tight against the hitch, there was no wobbling at all. A great trip was made better by having the peace of mind provided by a sturdy rack to safely transport our bicycles. Thank you etrailer!

Good product and works well on my 5th wheel factory mounted hitch. Had a shipping issue which was addressed immediately. Lexus G. was very helpful during the process. This is my second purchase through etrailer and I will purchase from them again. 224409

The swagman xp bike rack we purchased did not work well for us. The locking cradle broke shortly after one use. The cradles slide when tightened, and as a result the bikes on the rack are not very secure and move around during a trip. I do not know how 4 bikes would fit on this rack. We have only 2 trail bikes and they were taking up a lot of the space. I did not return the bike rack because it weighted so much and the package would have been very expensive to return. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because it is made with very sturdy steel construction. i would not purchase again. We went to a local bike shop, spent more money and purchased a Thule which we are very pleased with. Live and learn..... 519536

So far, so good. I just received this last week and installed it on the back of my fifth wheel. We have four bikes (2 adult bikes and two kids bikes), and fitting all four of the bikes on the racks took some creativity but it was possible. The rack seems very sturdy, but we will see if it stands the test of time as we are full-time RVers who travel about 6,000 miles per year. Our last bike rack (Swagman XTC4) was completely worn out after about 14,000 miles of use on the back of our fifth wheel. 152648

Comments

After one year, this bike rack is still performing very well on the back of our fifth wheel. We have travelled over 5,000 miles with our bikes in tow, and it still looks and operates like brand new. I was able to make four full-size bicycles fit on it, but you have to be creative.

In response to Richard N., we had a 2 hitch receptacle installed on the rear of our fifth wheel when we ordered it from the factory. The bike rack is installed by sliding it into the hitch receptacle.

I purchased the Swagman because I needed a bike rack that was rated for a travel trailer and would take my bike plus three girls' bikes. It took me hours to figure out how to make it work, but I finally got it. It's hard to use and you have to take all the bikes on and off in order. I've since seen better and more easily use-able bike racks and ones that adjusts to fill your tow receiver better (reducing sway). The knob with the key doesn't tighten down or work very well. So I had to place it on an inside bike, allowing me to tighten down the outside bike with the non-keyed knob. 410811

I was very pleased with my Swagman bike rack. My first trip with it was a 3 1/2 hour drive. I watched the bike rack closely the entire trip and I found that our bikes stayed on the rack perfectly with no movement. I would definitely recommend this bike rack to anyone. 50008

Well we just tried out the swagman 4 bike hitch this weekend and overall it worked well. We used it on our 2009 flagstaff tent trailer which had a factory installed receiver hitch on the back. We had no problems at all however that being said the hitch does not work really well with bike wheels over 26 it just does not leave enough clearance from the road to the tire. Other than that I would recommend this hitch for use with a tent trailer. 47166

We bought this bike rack for our 24 ft travel trailer. We needed one that was not going to shake and cause the bikes to come off like the previous one did. This one works perfectly for this purpose. No need for extra tie-downs. I love the lock feature, and the quick mount and dismount of the bikes. Thank you so much for your proffesional advice and a great product. 336351

Just received the bike rack and put it together. It was an easy assembly, but had trouble getting the rubber liners back into the pin slots after bolting the carrier to the rack arm. Other than that, no issues. Appears to be well built and sturdy. Had read reviews about other racks and fabication issues and such, but really thought this was a well fabiricated product and had no assembly issues except the rubber liner clips. No complaints at this point. Appears to be a good product. 47649

I love this bike rack! went on a 2400 mile trip and the bikes stayed on and did not wobble at all. We easily fit 4 bikes on comfortably. have not tried to put 5 bikes on rack. Just alternate the bikes, (one left-right the next right-left and slightly angle them depending the type of bikes you own. gets easier to use each time. 369724

The service from etrailer was awesome. I ordered on a weekend and yet by Sunday night I had an email saying the product was shipped. On top of that the shipping was upgraded at the same cost.... FREE! The Bike Rack is great. Went together easily and is very heavy duty. The only problem I have and it was anticipated is that my bike frame is not round, it is oval shaped and it barely fits into the gripper. But as I said I expected it to be close from the product description. This rack should give me many years of service and I highly recommend it and etrailer!! 91987

We have not got to use this bike rack yet. We fitted it to our Rav 4 and are very happy with the tight fit. The rack is very well built and sturdy. Passes the spare tire on the back of the Rav with plenty of room to spare. Also it appears to have plenty of clearance at the bottom of the rack. Our last rack fit loosly in the receiver and the bike moved quite a bit. Hopefully this one will reduce the bike movement. Also it does not tell you on the site that we could find but this rack may be used for 1, 2 or 3 bikes. 52298

we have a rav 4 with the swing door 2009 and the spare in the case. We also have a trailer 2 receiver on the rav does this rack work well for our application ?

-- comment by: Guy S - 06/15/2014

You will need to measure the distance to the from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer edge of your spare tire cover. This will tell you how much clearance you will need for the Swagman Bike rack to work with your vehicle. If this measurement is less than 13-1/2 inches this bike rack will work great for you.

Can all four bikes be locked??

-- comment by: Chris - 09/22/2013

2099

Only one of the 4 knobs needs to be lockable. Use it on the outermost bike. If a thief cannot remove the last bike, he cannot remove the others. Remember, if using an adapter bar, the bike cannot be secured by locking the cradle. A cable lock will need to be used in that case.

I am very happy with this bike rack. It has served me well so far. It was easy to put together and its really simple to use. However I was not happy to see that both of the bolts at the bottom were quick release. Sure the bolt that lets the rack pivot down should be quick release but the other bolt should be permanent to stop theft. I fixed the problem myself by buying a regular bolt and nut from hardware store and welding the nut on. I'm sure not everyone is capable of that though. Overall I think the rack is great and I would definitely recommend it. 99454

Review from a similar Swagman XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I ordered this bike rack for use on my wifes 2014 honda accord, when I decided to install a Curt Reciever hitch (C11681) on the car. As usual etrailers' service was excellent and everything arrived quickly and in good shape. After I assembled the rack and went to mount it on the car I discovered the threads on the bolt were damaged. After determining the size, I tried another bolt in the reciever "block"of the rack. These threads were unusable as well. I was planning on using the rack soon for an upcoming trip, so I decided to forgo dismantling everything, repackaging, and shipping back to etrailer, for replacement. Instead, I purchased a tap and die and "chased" the threads on both pieces. Works fine now, and I am pleased overall with the way the rack works. I only use it for 2 bikes and it is very secure with little wobble. Hopefully the bad threads on mine were a fluke. If not, Swagman needs to look at quality control in this area. 457663

Product is fantastic, fast delivery. Outstanding support prior to sale by Julie M. prior to the sale. Had a unique situation as I was hanging my folding bikes so the frame configuration was a bit different. I was able to put them on and they are very secure, and everything is good on the back of my Casita travel trailer. 92727

Review from a similar Swagman XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Purchased this after reading some of the other reviews and Q&A on etrailer - i hadn't thought about the fact that how the crossbars on the bike are configured makes a difference - 3 of our 5 bikes wouldn't have fit on a two bar bike rack because the openings are two small (I ended up measuring them before selecting a rack). I still ended up having to use the adapter for one of them which works great. Installation was easy (I had uhaul put a receiver hitch on my 2012 odyssey the week before) - you do have to pull a pin on the bottom of the rack when you tilt it, which some might consider an inconvenience compared to some of the other brands that just have release levers, but i view it as less stuff to break compared to those racks. If you're going to have it on a lot and park in a garage, consider the fact that it doesn't collapse because it does add significant length to the vehicle. 5 bikes are definitely doable if you set it up correctly. I think its the most versatile rack you can get based on the way it holds the bikes and would definitely recommend. 145641

Comments

i actually just put it on again this morning - we love it, i think the only thing i would say is that i wish there was some way to keep it a little tighter in the receiver hitch. the bolt tends to loosen after a bit of driving - nothing unsafe, just makes it sway and bounce a bit more and needs to be retightened.

Review from a similar Swagman XP in Hitch Bike Racks

After reading the reviews, my husband I bought this bike rack for our 2009 RAV4 knowing full well that we were going to be unable to open the cargo door when the bike rack was mounted. So I want to be clear that we are ok with that less than perfect feature, while at the same time let others with a RAV4 know that this is how this bike rack will work with a RAV4 if they get this rack. Also in regard to the complaint about the bolt that inserts in the hitch receiver, I would like to add that the Kotter pin that mounts on the end of this bolt does not stay on well, but the threads in the bolt if tightened well, look like they will hold if the pin is lost. I would like to also point out that there is not a plate on either end of the rack where the 3 bike cradles mount, so if the U-bolts on the cradles come lose, you could either lose a bike or have one slide off the back and hit the spare tire carrier on the RAV. Now with all that said, here's the good so far....once the bolt is tightened in the hitch receiver pin hole, there is absolutely no wobble in the rack. My women's coaster bike fit in the cradle just fine without an adapter. The shipping time was super fast and although the box looked like it had been to war, it was still sealed and intact and the rack arrived in good shape. Since the rack just arrived yesterday, we have not yet had time to road test the bike rack on the back of the RAV loaded with bikes yet. One other selling point for us was the fact that this rack can be used on the back of an RV also. 184400

Just unpacked and put together the Swagman XP 3 bike carrier. Used it once and it seems to be made very well. Holds the bikes firmly; doesn't seem that the bikes jostle around like my previous carrier. I did a lot of research on the different styles of bike racks that are out there. I love the way the Swagman XP you can clamp down your bike and lock it, without any worries of scratching your bike frame and it hold the bike in very secure. Not a big fan of the ones with a rubber band that holds your bike in place. I'm very happy with my purchase and as well the delivery time to my house. I would recommend this one to all of my friends that are looking for a killer bike rack and hope they make the Swagman XP their first choice. 205708

I received my trailer hitch and had it assembled and ready to go on my truck in 15 minutes. The quality is excellent and I believe it will be a good buy. The only issue I have, and I have no answer to dealing with it is working the the back hatch on my Dodge Durango. I do not think ANYONE has an answer to that problem. It should not be a problem on my motor home however. 182037

Quality built. Drilled holes 6" from pin hole provided. Now it slides all the way in my hitch receiver bringing it closer to my tailgate making it extremely sturdy. My mountain bike has the the oblong frame & this carrier can hold it securely in place. I'm glad I found etrailer when I searched in Google. Great value for the price, received shipment in 5 days and was obvious someone went to great length to secure it so it did not shift in transport. I'm sure this carrier will last us many miles and years Thanks. 175710

The bike rack is fabulous. Used it this weekend to carry three bikes 5 hours one way. Very strong and sturdy. The bikes sit in a vinyl/rubber padded cradle that is held down by a top plate that you screw down - very securely fastened. Worked great. very stable during trip. (I mount it in front for truck). I did have to go buy the bar adapter so I could mount and carry my wife's woman's bike. I tried several ways at first to carry without. Couldn't make it work with my bike and son's bike. Adapter bar worked perfectly. Cost another $29 at bike store. I sure etrailer carry's it but needed it right away. I love the simple engineering. 144026

Review from a similar Swagman XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Received quickly thanks to etrailer. I was researching for ever to find a hitch bike rack that fit my jeep liberty. It clears the spare tire very well. Rack is well built, bikes stay in solace. All I need now is bike lock cable that wraps around bikes and receiver. 135311

Comments

We've got a number of different cable locks, but the one that will work best is Swagman part # S64030
Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable for Swagman Bike Racks w/ 2" Shanks - 8-1/2' Long
$45.05
. Swagman designed for their racks and this kit includes a lock and cable that will lock both the bikes and the rack.

Nice bike rack....just wished it would have come with a normal size hole for the standard size hitch pin. I had to order a hitch pin with a key for security. 123525

Review from a similar Swagman XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Very nice product! Well made, heavy duty rack for our RV. Used with two bikes the first time and had no problems. Like the option of tilting the cradles to accommodate different cross bars. Quick shipping and well packaged. Also appreciated helpful customer service prior to and after purchasing the rack. 101560

Review from a similar Swagman XP in Hitch Bike Racks

- Very pleased with the ease of order and timeliness of shipping. It was straightforward and very quick - The bike rack was easy to assemble and looks good. We recently used it for the MS150 in Columbia, MO. - The only complaint I have is that it moves too much when driving. I tried to use the strap that comes with it, but that makes no difference it the rack movement. 99398

Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Hitch Mount Bike Rack for 4-Bikes on the Back of a Travel Trailer Using Curt Bumper Hitch E-100
  • There are only certain bike racks that are rated for use on the back of an RV or trailer but the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR is not one of them so I cannot recommend it. But there are several 4-bike racks that are rated for this application. You can use the Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This rack is most like the Thule. It features a 2-arm design and anti-sway cradles. It is a sturdy build to handle the riggers of being at the back of a trailer. Other racks that are rated for this...

  • Recommended Hitch Mounted Bike Rack for Mercedes-Benz Sprinter RV
  • The local bike shop was correct in saying that the Thule Apex Swing 4 Bike Rack, # TH9027, and we don't recommend it for an RV application either. RV's in general have more movement at the rear because the distance to the hitch receiver is further from the rear axle. Fewer moving parts on the rack helps isolate possible wobble and wear on that hitch receiver and the bike rack itself. One of the nicest bike racks for an RV is the Swagman XP, # S64940. This rack carries up to 4 bikes...

  • Replacement Top Plate and Knob for Reese Outfitter Bike Rack
  • Swagman once manufactured bike racks for Reese and Hidden Hitch. The Outfitter model was one of those bike racks. If you have the 3 bike version, then you will use the Replacement Top Plate for Hidden Hitch Bike Rack # SP-102 if you have 5 inch measurements on center for the padding. For just the knob if you want to keep a spare on hand, you will need part # P1004. If you have the 4 bike, you will use the Replacement Top Plate for Swagman Original Series 4 Bike Carriers # P113. • Can a Bike Rack be Used on the Front of a 2007 Nissan Xterra While Towing a Trailer
  • We do have a picture showing Curt front receiver # 31514 installed on a Nissan Xterra just not the measurement. As you can see in the picture the receiver is recessed pretty far beneath the front of the vehicle. Any bike rack you use will need to have a long shank such as the Swagman XP # S64940. Another option is to use the Curt Multipurpose ball mount # D210 at the back to tow a trailer while carrying bikes so you would not have to buy and install a front mount hitch. The D210 has...

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for Fitting Around RV Spare at Rear of RV
  • If your RV has a spare mounted at the rear and you have a 4 inch by 4 inch rear bumper the bike rack part # S80501 would be a fantastic option as it is designed to fit around spares. Otherwise we have the Swagman bike rack # S64940 which has a distance of 12-1/2 inches from the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright mast of the rack which would fit around most spare.

  • Weight Capacity Of RV Hitch-Mounted Bike Carriers
  • The cradles and straps used on the hanging bike racks like part # S64940 are rated for 35 lbs each and using a bike weighing more than 35 lbs in the carrier or exceeding the weight limit of the entire rack would void the warranty. If you have a bike that weighs just a bit over 35 lbs I recommend using the Swagman Dispatch, part # S64684. This is a platform-style bike carrier and it has a capacity of 2 bikes that weigh up to 45 lbs. If you are planning on carrying a bike like an E-bike,...

  • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for an RV Similar to Thule Hitching Post
  • We have several RV approved bike racks that would work for you, but the Thule Hitching Post part # TH934XTR that you referenced has not been confirmed to work with the much rougher ride present at the rear of an RV so I cannot recommend it for you. The most similar bike rack we offer that would work for you would be the Swagman part # S64940. This rack has been approved for RV use so it would work well for you. • Swagman XP vs. Swagman Trailhead Bike Rack Comparison
  • I would recommend the Swagman Trailhead part # S63380 for you because this rack has two arms instead of one like the Swagman XP # S64940 which will make carrying bikes easier and more stable. The Trailhead also has anti-sway cradles designed to prevent the bikes from moving around in the rack which will help prevent them from contacting each other. I attached a review video for both racks for you to check out as well. Both racks are confirmed to work at the back of an RV. If you plan...

  • Options for Carrying Bike Racks When Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500
  • We do have options for carrying bikes when towing a fifth wheel trailer, however, we do not carry any bike racks that were specifically designed to carry bikes on the front of a vehicle. Bikes mounted on the front of the vehicle can block your line of site, headlights and turn signals and the airflow to your engine. When towing a fifth wheel trailer, airflow to the engine is crucial. When I am towing my fifth wheel trailer, I use the Swagman Bumper Mount Bike Rack, # S80501. This type...

  • Bike Rack Recommendations for Rear of 30 Foot Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • The rear overhang (distance between axle and back bumper) is longer on a fifth wheel than what you'd find on a passenger vehicle, so any bike rack placed on a hitch will be subjected to additional shaking, jarring and rattling that it wouldn't need to withstand if it were installed on a passenger vehicle. Therefore, the bike rack companies specifically designed bike racks for this purpose. The racks are designed to be more rugged. For carrying up to 4 bikes, I'd highly recommend the...

  • Is there a 4-Bike RV-Approved Bike Rack that Can Tilt Down with Bikes Loaded
  • Tilting bike racks are not available for RVs because where a rack pivots to tilt creates a point of weakness and because there is significantly more movement at the back of an RV it can cause a tilting rack to fail. The latest and greatest 4-bike RV-approved rack is the Yakima LongHaul 4 Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Silver Item # Y02476. I have linked a video review of this rack for you. This bike rack measures 13-1/2 inches to the back of the upright mast and about 9 inches to the lower post at the bottom of the mast. • The size of the cruiser bike top frame tube is going to necessitate an adapter bar. But going with a rack that has a single arm and rotating cradles, such as # S64940, is a great idea for childrens' bikes. The alternative is to replace the Class II trailer hitch with a Class III trailer hitch, such as # 75712, and use a platform style bike rack such as # PS63138.
