Additionally, the cradles help provide a scratch-free ride for bikes by using thick kraton vinyl cushioning with large grooves, which prevent bike cables from rubbing on the frame. They also work to prevent bikes from rocking back and forth during transit. The cradles accommodate bikes with up to a 2" diameter frame, and the locking knob allows for a secure and quick unload.

Video Transcript for Swagman XP For RV and Motorhome Hitch Bike Rack Review

Today, well be demonstrating the Swagman XP 4 Bike Rack for 2 inch Trailer Hitches part number S64940. Now, the Swagman XP is RV and Motorhome approved. This carriers steel construction provides lasting toughness and carries up to four bikes. The cushion cradle on the arm rotates to keep wheels levelled to the ground provide improved ground clearance and help provide a scratch-free ride for your bike. The cradles will accommodate bikes with up to 2 inch diameter frame and the locking knob allows for securing quick unload. Now, well go ahead and slide our shank of the bike rack into the hitch.

Line up the hitch pin hole. We can simply thread the anti-rattle bolt in and tighten it down. This will secure the bike rack to the vehicle. Now, to load our bike, were going to be loading it on the innermost cradle. Well undo the knob where we can then remove the top cradle cover.

We can now place the bike into the cradle. Now, the cover is adjustable depending on the topmost diameter. Now, when tightening the knob down, you want to be careful not to over tighten as you can damage your bike. Included with the bike is a tether strap. The tether strap clip is inserted into the slot on the safety 01:32 plate.

Well then wrap the strap around the bike and bring it back to the bike rack. Now that our bike is secured to the vehicle, well go ahead and take it on a test drive and see how it performs. That completes our demonstration of the Swagman XP 4 Bike Rack for 2 inch Hitches part number S64940.

I bought it primarily to use it on my camper to haul the kids bikes when we go camping. It was a little harder to assemble than I expected it would be but the reason is because you have to position each holder individually for each bike. That slight down fall makes it nice though because each bike will be properly positioned and secured for travel. I bought the model with the factory lock, I'm glad I decided on that model. I'm also glad that it has the anti rattle feature especially going on a camper. The bike rack even works with a spare tire mounted right next to it. 544403

Bought this to take the bikes for my family of four on vacation and I have only used it three times in the last 12 months, the most recent just a week ago. I remain completely happy with my purchase. The ability to angle the brackets allows me to easily fit our 4 bikes (adult male, adult female, 12 yr male, 10 yr female). My wife's bike fits okay without an adapter, but my daughter's bike required a bar adapter since the space between her frame would not fit over the brackets. One thing to note, to get my wife and sons bikes on, I have to remove the brackets for the bikes in front of them. Don't be stubborn, just do this. I scratched the frames putting them on the first time without removing the other brackets, and it ended up taking longer fighting them on. This is because of the way her bike frame is built and his is simply smaller. I am considering buying the bar adapters for them as well just to avoid having to remove the brackets, but we don't really use it enough yet to purchase them. My bike, with the wider frame, goes on quickly and easily. Tip: Take a picture of how you fit the bikes on! It will save you having to figure it out again the next time. 410383

The swagman xp bike rack we purchased did not work well for us. The locking cradle broke shortly after one use. The cradles slide when tightened, and as a result the bikes on the rack are not very secure and move around during a trip. I do not know how 4 bikes would fit on this rack. We have only 2 trail bikes and they were taking up a lot of the space. I did not return the bike rack because it weighted so much and the package would have been very expensive to return. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because it is made with very sturdy steel construction. i would not purchase again. We went to a local bike shop, spent more money and purchased a Thule which we are very pleased with. Live and learn..... 519536

Ordered this bike rack, the locking / anti rattle / threaded hitch pin, & the adapter for an alternative frame bike. Very impressed with e-trailer dot com. Price was great. The order shipped quickly & arrived early. It was securely packed. Did A LOT of research & chose this bike rack as it was one of the few that was approved by the manufacturer for RV use. The bike rack went together fairly easily. The wife helped me as it was good to have a 2nd set of hands. Hint: I started assembling it on the garage floor but it's easier to do in a hitch insert. Finally used it on our class C RV this past weekend. All in all, no complaints. The wife was driving behind me & said the bike rack was fairly steady. Pleased with e trailer dot com & the bike rack! 57797

So far, so good. I just received this last week and installed it on the back of my fifth wheel. We have four bikes (2 adult bikes and two kids bikes), and fitting all four of the bikes on the racks took some creativity but it was possible. The rack seems very sturdy, but we will see if it stands the test of time as we are full-time RVers who travel about 6,000 miles per year. Our last bike rack (Swagman XTC4) was completely worn out after about 14,000 miles of use on the back of our fifth wheel. 152648

Comments
After one year, this bike rack is still performing very well on the back of our fifth wheel. We have travelled over 5,000 miles with our bikes in tow, and it still looks and operates like brand new. I was able to make four full-size bicycles fit on it, but you have to be creative.

How is your hitch fastened to your fifth wheel?

In response to Richard N., we had a 2 hitch receptacle installed on the rear of our fifth wheel when we ordered it from the factory. The bike rack is installed by sliding it into the hitch receptacle.

1st thing-- only buy this unit is your looking for a RV hitch. Forget Yakima, Thule, etc. I have broken two of the other brands!! Little downside is that this is really a 3 bike rack. Top arm should be 2" longer if you don't want your bicycles banging together. They should make some changes to the bolts that tighten down the holders, or instead you leave the knobs on other wise you will scratch your bicycles knocking them on the bolts. 98181

After researching the multitude of bike racks available, Pat at etrailer spent over 30 minutes with me on the phone answering my questions about which would be the best rack for our SUV and our particular bike styles. We settled on the Swagman XP 4-bike rack. The cradles are adjustable and be rotated so that the wheels of any bike can be kept parallel to the ground regardless of the angle of the bike frame. It worked as advertised, and I can 100% recommend etrailer as a very reliable source. The people there are interested in helping you, and they deliver. Great company! 81561

Still perfect. Our bike trip last July to Montana and Idaho was a great test of the Swagman bike rack. We had four bikes totaling 80 pounds and had absolutely no issues. With the U brace keeping the rack base tight against the hitch, there was no wobbling at all. A great trip was made better by having the peace of mind provided by a sturdy rack to safely transport our bicycles. Thank you etrailer!

I've never been so frustrated with a bike rack until now. I have 5 kids bikes, none of them can fit on this thing. Either the bars on the bikes are to fat and you can't close the clamp or the frame is to small to fit over the bottom bracket. I bought the deal that clamps on the handle bars and bike seat for kids bikes, that thing doesn't work either. It's not just kids bike, my beach cruiser won't fit on the thing, the frame bars are apparently to big to get the clamp closed. So much wasted time spent on this thing.. 744807

If youre looking for a different style bike rack to transport a wide variety of bikes, one great option at a similar price point is the Lets Go Aero BikeWing T4 # B01458
Lets Go Aero BikeWing T4, 2+2 4-Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Folding - Horizontal Wheel Mount
$228.95
because it is adjustable enough to fit kids, womens, and alternative frame bikes without the use of an adapter bar. Another great option, though at a higher price point, is a rack like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE4 # HR1400Z
Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount
$499.99
as it holds your bikes at 3 points and offers adjustability to support kids, womens, and alternative frame bikes.

Overall (structurally) it is very well made and appears very sound. However, have 2 comments regarding potential improvements; i.e.: 1) Recommend having the anti-rattle nut feature for the 2" hitch attachment being included at both holes (as shown in the assembly directions included with our bike rack). The one that we got, only has the threaded attachment (anti-rattle feature) at the outer most hole on the 2" square tube. To use this feature, you don't get much hitch engagement, but if you use the inner hole (with more hitch engagement), you have a standard 5/8" pin with lots of play (excessive vibration). 2) Do not recommend the Locking Knob as currently provided. During assembly, we tested it by tightening it down, but could not remove it (even with the key). We needed needle nose pliers to remove, and when disassembled found that the internal locking spindle can lose contact with locking portion when tightened. Since we cannot trust this locking feature, we have ordered two new non-locking knobs; i.e. one for replacement and one as a spare. We also ordered a better locking design to avoid this problem in the future. 681008

Comments
I spoke with my contact at Swagman and they confirmed that this rack is designed to only have the hitch pin hole closest to the upright mast threaded for the anti-rattle pin. If you are not interested in having two hitch pin holes or locking feature built into the rack, the Swagman Original # S64400
Swagman Original - 4 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches
$143.95
or Yakima RoadTrip # Y02477
Yakima RoadTrip RV Bike Rack - 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Black
$219.00
are both comparable bike racks you may be interested in. A locking cable like the Deadbolt 10 Foot Long Cable Lock # CAB-10
Deadbolt 10' Long Cable Lock
$19.17
is great for securing your bikes to your vehicle.

Wow this rack is very heavy duty fits the hitch perfectly and fit all 4 of my bikes. It even comes with a stabilizing strap. I bought the Curt E 100 bumper receiver also a perfect inexpensive way to attach the bike rack to my 5th wheel bumper 484157

I purchased the Swagman because I needed a bike rack that was rated for a travel trailer and would take my bike plus three girls' bikes. It took me hours to figure out how to make it work, but I finally got it. It's hard to use and you have to take all the bikes on and off in order. I've since seen better and more easily use-able bike racks and ones that adjusts to fill your tow receiver better (reducing sway). The knob with the key doesn't tighten down or work very well. So I had to place it on an inside bike, allowing me to tighten down the outside bike with the non-keyed knob. 410811

I was very pleased with my Swagman bike rack. My first trip with it was a 3 1/2 hour drive. I watched the bike rack closely the entire trip and I found that our bikes stayed on the rack perfectly with no movement. I would definitely recommend this bike rack to anyone. 50008

Well we just tried out the swagman 4 bike hitch this weekend and overall it worked well. We used it on our 2009 flagstaff tent trailer which had a factory installed receiver hitch on the back. We had no problems at all however that being said the hitch does not work really well with bike wheels over 26 it just does not leave enough clearance from the road to the tire. Other than that I would recommend this hitch for use with a tent trailer. 47166

Review from a similar Swagman XP in Hitch Bike Racks

I love this bike rack! went on a 2400 mile trip and the bikes stayed on and did not wobble at all. We easily fit 4 bikes on comfortably. have not tried to put 5 bikes on rack. Just alternate the bikes, (one left-right the next right-left and slightly angle them depending the type of bikes you own. gets easier to use each time. 369724

We bought this bike rack for our 24 ft travel trailer. We needed one that was not going to shake and cause the bikes to come off like the previous one did. This one works perfectly for this purpose. No need for extra tie-downs. I love the lock feature, and the quick mount and dismount of the bikes. Thank you so much for your proffesional advice and a great product. 336351

The service from etrailer was awesome. I ordered on a weekend and yet by Sunday night I had an email saying the product was shipped. On top of that the shipping was upgraded at the same cost.... FREE! The Bike Rack is great. Went together easily and is very heavy duty. The only problem I have and it was anticipated is that my bike frame is not round, it is oval shaped and it barely fits into the gripper. But as I said I expected it to be close from the product description. This rack should give me many years of service and I highly recommend it and etrailer!! 91987

Product is fantastic, fast delivery. Outstanding support prior to sale by Julie M. prior to the sale. Had a unique situation as I was hanging my folding bikes so the frame configuration was a bit different. I was able to put them on and they are very secure, and everything is good on the back of my Casita travel trailer. 92727

Review from a similar Swagman XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Purchased this after reading some of the other reviews and Q&A on etrailer - i hadn't thought about the fact that how the crossbars on the bike are configured makes a difference - 3 of our 5 bikes wouldn't have fit on a two bar bike rack because the openings are two small (I ended up measuring them before selecting a rack). I still ended up having to use the adapter for one of them which works great. Installation was easy (I had uhaul put a receiver hitch on my 2012 odyssey the week before) - you do have to pull a pin on the bottom of the rack when you tilt it, which some might consider an inconvenience compared to some of the other brands that just have release levers, but i view it as less stuff to break compared to those racks. If you're going to have it on a lot and park in a garage, consider the fact that it doesn't collapse because it does add significant length to the vehicle. 5 bikes are definitely doable if you set it up correctly. I think its the most versatile rack you can get based on the way it holds the bikes and would definitely recommend. 145641

Comments
i actually just put it on again this morning - we love it, i think the only thing i would say is that i wish there was some way to keep it a little tighter in the receiver hitch. the bolt tends to loosen after a bit of driving - nothing unsafe, just makes it sway and bounce a bit more and needs to be retightened.

Review from a similar Swagman XP in Hitch Bike Racks

Good value. With creative positioning, I put 1 large adult bike with a straight crossbar, two adult bikes with angled crossbars, and two kids bikes with angled crossbars - with no crossbar adapters on any of them (by tilting the bike holders). One complaint: the locking bike clamp handle stinks. I plan to buy a non locking replacement handle. The original required constant key pressure to unscrew the handle - you can't just not lock it because it essentially locks when the handle gets tight. Unscrewing via a flimsy key - when the handle is tight - may lead to a broken key and lock. 673829

  • Is there a 4-Bike RV-Approved Bike Rack that Can Tilt Down with Bikes Loaded
Tilting bike racks are not available for RVs because where a rack pivots to tilt creates a point of weakness and because there is significantly more movement at the back of an RV it can cause a tilting rack to fail. The latest and greatest 4-bike RV-approved rack is the Yakima LongHaul 4 Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Silver Item # Y02476. I have linked a video review of this rack for you. The cradles and straps used on the hanging bike racks like part # S64940 are rated for 35 lbs each and using a bike weighing more than 35 lbs in the carrier or exceeding the weight limit of the entire rack would void the warranty. If you have a bike that weighs just a bit over 35 lbs I recommend using the Swagman Dispatch, part # S64684. There are only certain racks that can be used at the back of an RV or trailer. I have included a link to the 4-bike hitch mount racks that you can use. My top choice would be the Swagman XP, # S64640, that you have referenced and it will also fit your truck. The single arm and rotating cradles make it compatible with many different bike frame styles. Step-through frames or frames with a top tube less than 7-3/16 inches long would require an adapter, # 64005, so those types of bikes...

  • RV-Approved Bike Rack for Use on Small Tear Camper Trailer
Good question indeed. Bike racks made for use on standard passenger cars should NOT be used on rear of any size of trailer. The reason is leverage. On passenger vehicles the rear axle and the hitch where the rack installs are not very far apart. But on a trailer it is often the case that the trailer's axle(s) will be much further away from the hitch. This extra distance, during driving, means additional leverage/stress will be applied to the rack. In the same way that adding length...

  • Replacement Cradle For Swagman Hitch-Mounted XP Bike Carrier
We do not offer the cradle U-bolt for the Swagman XP bike carriers but we do sell the cradle assembly, part # 64860. This includes the cradle body, hand knob, top plate and 2 gray vinyl inserts and would work great on your XP bike rack.

  • Can a Bike Adapter Bar # 64005 Be Used on a Bike Rack at the Back of a 5th Wheel Trailer
You may not even need to use an adapter bar when using Swagman XP bike rack # S64940, depending on the frame design of the bikes in question. The cradles can rotate so you can carry the bikes level. As long as the bike frames are 2 inches in diameter or less and are not step-through frames, adapters will not be needed. Should you need to use an adapter bar like # 64005 it can be used with the bike rack on the back of a 5th wheel trailer. I have included a link to a video that shows how...

  • Bumper Mount Trailer Hitch fora 4 Inch Steel Trailer Bumper and Swagman XP Bike Rack
The Curt bumper mount trailer hitch # E-100 is one of the most popular options for a 4 inch square, continuously welded steel bumper. This hitch has a 350 pound tongue weight capacity so it will have no problem with a loaded Swagman XP, # S64940. You will need to consult the trailer manual or manufacturer to make sure the bumper is rated for use for weight carrying.

  • Can the Swagman XP Bike Rack be Used on a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder
The Swagman XP # S64940 that you referenced can definitely be used on vehicles. The RV rating that you see on this rack is related to the fact that is built strong enough to handle the rougher ride that RVs have when compared to passenger vehicles. If you check out the picture I attached you will see this rack being used on a similar Pathfinder as your 2006 model.

  • Can the Swagman Adapter Bar Be Used with the Swagman XP Bike Rack
Yes, the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar part # 64005 will work with the Swagman XP part # S64940. If you have any bikes with an alternative frame then this adapter bar will be needed to ensure proper ground clearance. I have attached a review video of the adapter bar for you as well. If you would like to lock the bike rack to the trailer hitch then you can do so using the Locking Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin part # S64027.

  • Trailer Hitch Mount 4-Bike Rack Recommendation for 1 Mens Bike and 3 Girls Bikes
The best solution for carrying 4 bikes, 3 of them with slanted top tubes, is to go with a single arm bike rack that has rotation cradles so that you can carrying the girls bikes level. Take a look at the Swagman XP, # S64940. As far as bike racks go it is about in the middle as far as price. The main benefit is that you can use this rack with girls bikes and not have to use adapters. You could use a 2 arm bike rack like # S63380, but you would also need 3 of the bike adapter bars, #...

  • How Much Does the Swagman XP 4-Bike Rack Weigh

  • Recommended Hitch-Mounted 4-Bike Rack for RV
For a 4-bike hitch mounted rack that is compatible with your RV, I recommend the Swagman XP # S64940. This will fit into the 2 inch trailer hitch on your RV and can hold up to 4 bikes at 35 pounds each. The cradles will secure the bikes by their frames and rotate to keep them level during trips. I have included a video review of this rack for you. The reason there are additional restrictions with carrying more bikes on an RV trailer hitch is because motorhomes and RVs bounce more than...

  • 4-Bike Carrier Recommendation For A 28-Foot Tandem Axle Travel Trailer
We do have a 4-bike carrier that is rated for an RV, but it is not the Highland SportWing you referenced as it is not meant to be used with an RV or camper. I recommend the Swagman Hitch-Mounted RV and Motor Home Bike Rack # S64940. It can carry up to 4 bikes with cradles that rotate left to right to accommodate many womens, childrens, and alternatively-framed bicycles by keeping wheels level to improve ground clearance. You will need to ensure your trailer hitch has a tongue weight...

  • Replacement Top Plate and Knob for Reese Outfitter Bike Rack
Swagman once manufactured bike racks for Reese and Hidden Hitch. The Outfitter model was one of those bike racks. If you have the 3 bike version, then you will use the Replacement Top Plate for Hidden Hitch Bike Rack # SP-102 if you have 5 inch measurements on center for the padding. For just the knob if you want to keep a spare on hand, you will need part # P1004. If you have the 4 bike, you will use the Replacement Top Plate for Swagman Original Series 4 Bike Carriers # P113. • Trailer Hitch and Bike Carrier Recommendations for a Keystone Raptor Toy Hauler
We have several possible options for a frame mounted trailer hitch for your Keystone Raptor. First, the most versatile option is going to be Curt hitch # 13703. It fits frame widths from 22 to 72 inches wide (frame width is measured from the outside of one frame rail to the outside of the other frame rail). It will also fit box frames, C-channel frames, and I-beam frames. It can be bolted or welded on (welding should be done by a qualified professional welder). The other options, see...

  • Can a Bike Rack be Used on the Front of a 2007 Nissan Xterra While Towing a Trailer
We do have a picture showing Curt front receiver # 31514 installed on a Nissan Xterra just not the measurement. As you can see in the picture the receiver is recessed pretty far beneath the front of the vehicle. Any bike rack you use will need to have a long shank such as the Swagman XP # S64940. Another option is to use the Curt Multipurpose ball mount # D210 at the back to tow a trailer while carrying bikes so you would not have to buy and install a front mount hitch. The D210 has...

  • Hitch Mount Bike Rack for 4-Bikes on the Back of a Travel Trailer Using Curt Bumper Hitch E-100
There are only certain bike racks that are rated for use on the back of an RV or trailer but the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR is not one of them so I cannot recommend it. But there are several 4-bike racks that are rated for this application. You can use the Swagman Trailhead # S63381. This rack is most like the Thule. It features a 2-arm design and anti-sway cradles. It is a sturdy build to handle the riggers of being at the back of a trailer. Other racks that are rated for this...

  • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for an RV Similar to Thule Hitching Post
We have several RV approved bike racks that would work for you, but the Thule Hitching Post part # TH934XTR that you referenced has not been confirmed to work with the much rougher ride present at the rear of an RV so I cannot recommend it for you. The most similar bike rack we offer that would work for you would be the Swagman part # S64940. This rack has been approved for RV use so it would work well for you. Since you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes without...
